Chapter 1

I was picking out gifts in the mall. When I was checking out, I saw two sales clerks whispering around a phone.

"This mother is so cruel that she even tries to jump off a building with her two children."

"Alas, those children are still so young. But where is their father? It's been almost an hour."

Out of curiosity, I glanced at the phone.

After a quick look at it, I went weak in the knees on the spot and darted at them to grab the cell phone.

In the video, a woman in a red dress was standing on the top of a tall building with a child in each hand, on the brink of falling.

With just a glance, I recognized that the child in the video was Eva.

That was right. The person in the video was my crazy sister-in-law with two children beside her.

"Hope nothing happens to them!"

Today was Eva's 3rd birthday.

Mia, Eddy's niece, who shared a birthday with Eva, would be here today as usual.

Eddy's brother died early and his sister-in-law was a bit of a lunatic.

So Mia had spent her birthday with Eva at my house every year since she was born.

When I went out of my house in the morning, my husband Eddy said he would pick up the kids.

But now, why were the kids with Gina?

Gina was as mad as a hatter and was usually locked up at home. Why did she run out today?

Where was Eddy?

I dialed Eddy's number with trembling hands.

But the number disconnected.

I rushed out of the mall and opened the car door. My hands trembled uncontrollably, and I tried several times but failed to start the engine.

I had to hail a cab to the address in the video.

When I arrived, there were a lot of people gathered downstairs.

Eva and Mia's cries came intermittently from the roof.

The firemen were all dispatched. No matter how much they shouted, there was no response from above.

Because Gina was mute.

I explained the situation to them and went up to the roof.

When Gina saw me, she opened her mouth and smiled silently at me.

Eva struggled violently, crying and shouting that he wanted to see me.

But Gina grabbed Eva tightly, refusing to let go.

Because of the physical contact, they swayed on the edge of the roof.

I was so frightened that my legs went weak. I fell to my knees and tried my best to comfort Eva.

Gina and I never had a close relationship, and I didn't know why she kidnapped Eva.

Until my husband, Eddy, arrived.

"Rubi, don't be afraid. I'll definitely save our daughter!"

He comforted me and got rid of everyone, including me.

I didn't know what they were saying on the roof.

In the end, Eddy managed to convince his crazy sister-in-law to give Eva back to me.

I hugged my daughter, who I had almost lost, and burst into tears.

"Let's talk about it when we get home."

Eddy calmly picked Eva up and led everyone back to Mabel's house.

Along the way, I hugged Eva tightly and tried to stay as far away from Gina as possible.

When I regained my composure, I wanted to tear her ass to pieces.

Mia sat between us and held onto my clothes pitifully.

"Auntie, don't be angry. I apologize to you on behalf of Mom! You can hit me, but don't ever stop Eva from playing with me."

As I looked into her tender and clean eyes, a surge of anger built up inside me instantly.

As soon as we entered the door, Mabel, who had been waiting for a long time, grabbed Gina's hair and slapped her several times.

"You ran away and harmed the children! You fool, you can go fuck yourself, but you can't plague my grandchildren!"

Chapter 2

Mabel cursed and hit Gina so hard.

Gina just held her head and dodged awkwardly.

Mia rushed forward, grabbed Mabel's trouser leg, and cried loudly.

"Grandma, don't hit my mom. Please, don't hit her!"

She tried her best to protect Gina.

In the chaos, Mabel slapped Mia a few times.

Mia was knocked to the ground, and her little face was instantly swollen.

I was civilized and never threw a fit. I was delighted to see Mabel beating Gina.

But as a mother, I couldn't bear to see Mia, who was the same age as Eva, get hurt.

I hurried forward to protect Mia and persuaded Mabel to stop.

When I applied the medicine to Mia, the little child gasped but still forced a smile.

"Auntie, it doesn't hurt! Does that make you guys not mad at Mom?"

"Sometimes, my mom doesn't know what she's doing. She's actually a very good person. Look, she even braided my hair today."

I gently stroked her messy and frizzy hair. I couldn't describe how I felt.

After all this, Eva had fallen asleep from exhaustion.

But Mia managed to keep her eyes open and said in a baby voice, "Auntie, if I had a dad, like Uncle Eddy, wouldn't Mom and I be like you and Eva?"

Tears welled up in my eyes and I turned around.

Mia was a posthumous child.

Eddy and I met at the gym. We fell in love at first sight.

We had been dating for three months and felt that we were very compatible in everything, so we got married.

I got pregnant a month after we got married.

At that time, Eddy told me that his brother had passed away, and his sister-in-law was pregnant.

So, he took Gina and Mabel to the city where we lived.

The first time I met Gina, she was not that insane. She just looked at me gloomily from time to time, which made me very uncomfortable.

Even if I took the initiative to share my pregnancy experience with her, she always ignored me with a cold face.

Over time, I distanced her as much as I could.

As our due date approached, Gina had the first inkling that she was going to give birth.

Eddy and I took her to the hospital.

She missed a step going downstairs. I didn't know if she did it on purpose or not.

I stood in front of her and inevitably fell down the stairs.

We were hospitalized together.

On the same day, I gave birth to my daughter, Eva, and she gave birth to Mia.

After being discharged from the hospital, she was depressed and often looked out of the window in a daze, turning a deaf ear to Mia's crying.

Mia was like a pitiful kitten and often cried her eyes out. She slept when she was tired. When she woke up, she cried again and sucked her little hand when she was hungry.

Whenever Eva whined, I heartily hugged her and cheered her up.

As a mother, I couldn't bear to see Gina treat Mia like that.

So I offered to take Mia in and raise her myself.

But as long as I got close to Mia, she would throw things around like an angry lion.

One day, when I came back, I saw her holding Eva in her arms with a loving smile on her face.

On the other side, Mia was crying at the top of her voice.

All of a sudden, my scalp tingled and the hairs on my body stood bolt upright.

I rushed forward to take Eva back and glared at her.

She opened her mouth wide and grinned at me.

That day, regardless of Mabel's dissuasion, I left this house and moved into my other house.

Chapter 3

From now on, I would try my best not to meet Gina.

Eva and Mia grew up day by day.

Eva was chubby and adorable, and she could get whatever she wanted.

Mia was thin and small. Every time I saw her, she cowered timidly in the corner.

I felt sorry for Mia and brought Mia some beautiful clothes and toys every time.

When Gina saw this, she cut the clothes and toys I gave Mia into pieces like a madman.

Mia looked pitiful and her eyes were full of tears. "Auntie, thank you for buying those things for me!"

For example, now, there was a sound of smashing things in Gina's room.

Mia opened her bleary eyes abruptly, quickly got out of bed, and ran into the room.

"Mom, don't be angry. What do you want? I'll get it for you."

Half of Gina's face was swollen, and she pushed Mia to the ground. The porcelain fragments on the ground punctured Mia's hand.

Mia endured the pain, stood up, and looked timidly at Gina.

I rushed in, carried Mia out, and cleaned her wound.

"Auntie, don't worry about me. Mom is just depressed. She'll be fine in a while!"

When I left, I saw Mia gently covering the asleep Gina with a blanket with her bandaged hand.

Her small body curled up beside Gina, and she closed her eyes.

And Gina had several pink hickeys on her exposed chest.

There was no way she could have made those marks on her own.

When I got home, the red marks on Gina's chest kept circling in my mind.

I couldn't help but recall all kinds of news of crazy and stupid women being molested.

Did someone molest her after she left the house?

Even if she was as mad as a hatter, she was considered a marked beauty, with fair skin, a delicate figure, and beautiful features.

Before going to bed at night, I told Eddy about my doubts.

"Could Gina have been molested by some guy while she was out? I see hickeys on her."

In the dark, I couldn't see Eddy's expression clearly.

He rolled over, turned his back to me, and said in annoyance.

"How is that possible? You must be mistaken. Don't be so suspicious. And stop overthinking."

Not long after he finished speaking, I heard his even breathing and slight snoring.

I stood up and looked at Eva, who was lying on the cot next to me.

However, I couldn't fall asleep no matter how hard I tried.

I couldn't be wrong, because there were many hickeys. I was definitely not mistaken.

Perhaps that guy was too careless to notice it.

The next day, I called Mabel and vaguely asked her a few questions.

Mabel firmly said, "It's impossible. Don't talk nonsense and ruin the reputation of the Scott Family! What you saw may be rashes on her body."

Was I really making a fuss about nothing?

But since Mabel and Eddy said that it was impossible, there was no need for me to care too much. After all, she and I barely had a relationship.

When I went home to tidy up the wardrobe in the afternoon, I saw a pink dress thrown aside.

I remembered that this was a birthday present for Mia, but I hadn't given it to her because Gina tried to jump off a building that day.

I happened to be free today. I drove to Mabel's house and wanted to give Mia the dress.

No matter how much I hated Gina, Mia was so sensible that I felt bad for her. I liked her from the bottom of my heart.

I knocked on the door for a long time, but no one answered. I suddenly remembered that Mabel had a habit of playing square dancing.

Perhaps she had already gone to dance at this time, leaving only the mad woman and Mia at home.

I didn't want to face Gina alone and was about to turn around and leave.

Suddenly, the door opened.
