Chapter 3

I was still in a daze when Ethan pulled me out the door.

From childhood to adulthood, everything I did was to pave the way for Ethan.

I started working after graduating from high school.

Maybe Mary was right. If it weren't for her, I wouldn't have had to start working so early or have met the wealthy man, Chris Watson, who wanted me to be his beloved girl's substitute.

Moreover, I wouldn't have had 300 million dollars now.

The night wind blew on my face, and it was freezing.

I randomly found a hotel to check into. Thinking about Ethan's face when he said he would book a hotel for me, I felt it funny.

When it was about to pay, he ran faster than anyone else.

This was my younger brother.

If I were a beggar on the street today, I believed that he would have kicked me out of the family right away.

I didn't sleep all night.

I received an invitation to the opening ceremony of a branch of the Watson Group, and then I looked for lawyers for advice online.

Before entering the door, I heard Ethan say that he had already sold the car I bought for him.

But the car and the two houses were all under my name.

I thought of this day when I bought them, so I gave Mary and Ethan two fake property deeds.

At that time, I thought that as long as they didn't make any trouble, they could live in the two houses and use the car as they wanted.

But I didn't expect this day to come.

They were originally quite polite to me perhaps because they thought I had a respectable job in the city.

Therefore, we could still maintain superficial peace.

But after they knew I couldn't make a living in the city and had to go home, their true colors were exposed.

I stayed in the hotel for one night.

Perhaps because I was spoiled too much by Chris, even the five-star hotel was not comfortable for me.

At dawn, I contacted the sales office to buy a house.

Without telling anyone, I moved into the new villa quietly.

I just moved into a new house and needed to buy a lot of daily necessities.

When I came out of the supermarket with two big bags, I could hardly walk.

"Let me help you."

I heard a female voice behind me and my eyes lit up instantly.

After chatting for a while, I found out that she was a newly hired employee of the branch of the Watson Group here, and her name was Sherry Lawson.

"You don't have a job? How about I recommend you? You can search the Watson Group. The bonus they give out is equivalent to what other companies would give you in a month."

When I heard about Chris' company, I couldn't help but feel a little timid.

When I was with him before, he often reminded me not to interfere in the company's affairs.

As a qualified substitute, I was very clear about his taboo, so even though I had been pampered for a few years, my understanding of the Watson Group was not even as good as that of a passerby.

Hearing Sherry's excited voice, I could only shake my head.

"I don't want to work for the time being..."

She raised her eyebrows helplessly.

"Well, the branch has just opened and is in need of people. I saw you a few times and felt that you might need a job. You seem to meet the boss' requirements, so..."

I knew she had good intentions, so I didn't say anything.

The only relationship between me and the Watson Group was probably that I served as their spokesperson.

Because I looked like Chris' beloved girl, he required me to cooperate with the company's photo activities during the contract period.

So I received an invitation to the opening of this branch.

As soon as I entered the house, Mary called.

Chapter 4

"Scarlett, what do you mean? Why would a lawyer come knocking on my door? Did you sue me? Do you believe I will call the police? I am your mother!"

Hearing the noisy voice on the other end of the phone, I held the phone further away.

"Mom, you know you're my mom? There are three rooms at home, but no one is for me.

"I bought the house with my money. If it weren't for me, you and Ethan would have still been in the countryside. Why do you treat me like this?"

This was the first time I had ever contradicted Mary, and it instantly made her furious.

"Scarlett, have you gone crazy because you were fired? Do you think Ethan and I can't live without you?"

She was furious and gasped heavily on the other end of the phone.

"Olivia is much better than you. You worked for so long but didn't even dare to tell us what you did.

"Olivia has found a good job and will start working soon. By then, I won't care about your house!"

I sneered and said with no emotion in my voice, "Okay, then give me the two houses, so I don't have to sue you."

Mary's voice trembled with anger. "Okay, you've indeed learned a lot in the city. Now I can't control you anymore, and I'm not worthy of being your mother. Don't come back again!"

She hung up the phone immediately after she finished speaking, and I felt bitter in my heart.

I had heard this sentence many times, and it always worked when used to threaten me.

But now, I was no longer afraid of being kicked out by anyone.

I thought I would have no contact with them before the court hearing, but I didn't expect to see my tenant Olivia again at the ceremony of the branch.

She was my future sister-in-law.

I was standing there in a daze with the wine in my hand. Sherry walked past me and waved her hand in front of my eyes.

She was surprised. "Why are you here?"

I smiled and said nothing.

Olivia saw me. I didn't know what Ethan and Mary said to her, and her eyes were full of resentment.

She walked quickly to us in high heels and pulled Sherry to her side.

They were classmates in college.

"Stay away from her. Do you remember the sister-in-law I mentioned who hasn't shown up for a year and whose work is mysterious? That's her."

Olivia glared at me, her tone full of disgust.

"Mrs. Wilson said that she never dared to tell her family about her job, but she bought a house for her family not long after she started working. She didn't even go to high school, but she bought two houses and a car within several years. I don't believe she has a decent job."

As soon as Olivia finished speaking, I heard a voice outside the door.

"Mr. Watson, why do you come to the branch company's ceremony in person? It's our great honor."
