Chapter 2
I've always played the sweet and innocent image. Most of the shows I've done have been cheesy idol dramas.
So, when the agency suddenly set me up for this softcore porn flick, telling me it was to help me transition my image, I was super suspicious. Didn't Colin know about this?
Wasn't the agency worried about pissing him off?
Now, it all made sense. It was just to boost his new leading lady.
I wiped away my tears and left the set.
When I got home, Colin was already there.
The moment I walked in, he pulled me into a hug.
"Was it a tough day?"
I pushed him away in disgust.
He froze for a second, then seemed to realize something. He softened his voice. "Amelia, are you worried about me being bothered by you filming that movie?"
"It's okay, I don't mind."
"I trust you and you need to trust yourself. It's just work."
If it's just work, why must I do it?
I asked him, "If it's all just work, why is Miley's work different from mine?"
Why did she just get to quietly fall in love in her movies?
Colin didn't seem to expect me to ask that. He frowned and said, "Amelia, don't be silly."
"Miley hasn't been through this kind of stuff. Doing those things would hurt her."
Then he gave a faint smile. "You're different. You're used to it."
I laughed bitterly inside.
My heart ached like someone was squeezing it tight.
I closed my eyes. "I'm tired. I need to rest."
Back in my room, I saw a message from my brother.
[Amelia, come home. Mom and Dad miss you.]
[If anything's wrong, just tell us. Don't worry about money.]
[I've booked a ticket for you, three days from now. We'll be waiting.]
After reading the message, I sank completely onto the bed.
I couldn't hold it in anymore. My voice choked and all my strength crumbled at that moment.
Thank goodness I still had one last safe haven.
The next day, I had just arrived on set when I saw a crowd of people surrounding Miley.
She was crying, her eyes swollen and red. Her tears streamed down like broken pearls and the whole crew comforted her.
She sobbed like she'd been terribly wronged.
When the others saw me, they all gave me looks of disdain.
"Amelia, you're the one who posted Miley's photos online, right?"
I was completely confused. "What? What photos?"
Someone shoved a phone in my face. "See for yourself."
A photo of Miley adjusting her bra strap in the bathroom was on the screen.
The picture did not reveal anything, not even her shoulders. It might have been the black strap if there was anything remotely suggestive.
Miley cried as she spoke to me, "Amelia, do you really have to do this? Just because I'm prettier and more innocent than you?"
"I know you're jealous I got the lead role, but if your photos got leaked, that doesn't mean you have to drag me down too!"
Then she buried her face in Colin's arms. "Colin, why are people's hearts scarier than the devil? It's so terrifying, so terrifying."
Colin comforted Miley, gently patting her back.
Miley continued to sob.
Colin walked up to me and slapped me hard across the face with all his might.
He glared at me. "Amelia Alvarez, I never thought you could be this vicious."
"Do you even know that Miley is going for a pure image? What you're doing will ruin her!"
Everyone around us looked at me with contempt, whispering among themselves.
Chapter 3
"She's so vicious. She's just bullying the younger girl."
"What's she got to be upset about? Didn't she sleep her way to the top? How come she's so wild in private but can't handle it on screen? What a fake."
"Yeah, I saw her during filming. She clearly looked like she was enjoying it, but she still had to pretend she didn't want to."
"Her body is seriously hot, though. I wonder if it's real."
"Next time, sneak a feel and you'll know, haha."
Someone was even filming me with their phone. "Let's show the world what Amelia Alvarez's really like, a diva who bullies newbies and plays innocent while being trash underneath."
Everyone assumed I did it. I couldn't defend myself because no one else had a better motive than me.
I grabbed Colin's hand. "Don't you believe me either? We've been together for so many years. Don't you know what kind of person I am?"
He looked at me coldly and flung my hand off. "Jealousy changes people."
"Miley is such a pure girl. She hasn't experienced any of this. What you are doing is trying to drive her to death. You're so evil!"
I shook my head, crying. "I didn't do it. I swear I didn't. You've known me for years. How can you not believe me?"
Colin yanked me closer. "Come with me. Apologize to Miley."
At that moment, it felt like I'd plunged into ice water.
I finally understood. His heart was completely with Miley now. It didn't matter what I said. He only believed her and her tears.
Miley peeked out from his embrace. "Colin, Amelia is just upset with me. Could you not take it too far? Let her direct it at me, not you."
Colin's eyes were full of sympathy for Miley. "You're just too kind! That's why you're being bullied like this. I have to get justice for you today."
Colin's eyes were bloodshot. He grabbed my hair and forced me to kneel before Miley. "Apologize to her. Hurry!"
"I didn't do it. Please believe me. I really didn't."
Colin wouldn't listen to my explanation. He directly pressed my head down and slammed it against the floor repeatedly. "Don't play dumb with me. Apologize to Miley. Are you mute?"
"You had no problem doing it, so why is admitting it so hard?"
When I got home that night, Colin wasn't there.
I buried myself deep under the covers, wanting to cry but unable to.
I just felt a churning in my stomach, like I was about to throw up.
The internet was flooded with insults and curses directed at me.
"She acts all innocent, but she's worse than a whore behind the scenes."
"Poor Miley Murray, so naive. Imagine having to work with someone like that and get stabbed."
I locked my phone screen, not wanting to see any more of the online rumors.
Just then, my phone rang.
I answered it. It was Colin on the other end. "Where are you?"
"I'm home."
"Put on the clothes I got for you. There's a gathering here related to our movie. Come join us."
Hearing this, I immediately felt a surge of anger and frustration. My throat was dry and I couldn't say a word.
Colin, on the other end, had already lost patience. "Hurry up and get over here. Ten minutes. Don't make me repeat it."
"I'm not going."
After saying those three words, I hung up.
As a result, not long after, Colin rushed back. The moment he walked in, he bombarded me with accusations. "Why are you being so unreasonable? Tonight's gathering is crucial for the movie's release. If you don't go, Miley's hard work will be for nothing!"
Chapter 4
"Seriously, don't you get how huge this movie is for Miley? Why are you still throwing a tantrum? Can't you stand seeing her do well? What did she ever do to you? Can't you just be a little understanding?"
Colin yanked the dress he'd picked out for me from the closet. "Be good. Put it on. You're coming with me."
I rolled over in bed, sticking to my guns. "Nah, I'm not going. You guys have fun. I'm not feeling it."
Colin ripped the covers off me and dragged me up.
"Why are you being so difficult? Miley will be at the get-together tonight, so you can apologize to her properly. She's sweet and won't hold a grudge."
Ultimately, Colin forced me into that leopard-print mini-skirt and dragged me out the door.
The bar was packed and loud. Every pair of eyes turned to me when I entered the private room.
About a dozen people were sitting around and they all gave me these nasty looks, checking me out from head to toe like they wanted to strip me bare with their eyes.
Someone from the crowd called out, "Everyone's seen your perfect little pair. They look too good to be real."
Then came the sleazy comments, one after another. "Dude, Colin's got it good! He brought her along, so we gotta have a turn too, right?"
"Holy crap, she looks even more like a total you-know-what in person than in the pictures! This is gonna be fun!"
"That outfit is so slutty, it's driving me crazy! I just wanna jump her right now!"
Hearing all that made me sick. I immediately turned to leave, but Colin blocked my way.
He frowned at me. "Just be good and keep the clients' company."
"Miley was upset enough about her photos getting leaked. Do you want to ruin the whole movie for her? Are you trying to kill her spirit?"
I felt a wave of humiliation and despair I'd never experienced before. All I could do was stand in the leopard-print mini-skirt Colin had picked out, feeling completely lost.
I was surrounded by a dozen people, clutching at the hem of my skirt, feeling helpless.
Their eyes just kept staring at me with bad intentions.
Miley was sitting off to the side. Someone offered her a drink, but she knocked the glass away. "Mr. Carter, I'm not like Amelia. I don't drink."
The guy's face instantly darkened.
Colin quickly stepped in to smooth things over. "Mr. Carter, Miley is young and hasn't experienced things like this. Don't scare her."
Then he shoved me forward.
"You go."
"You go drink with them for Miley."
At the party, I downed one drink after another.
My mind started to get fuzzy.
Everything around me felt unreal. I heard Miley giggling as she chatted with everyone. "Has everyone seen Amelia's audition tape?"
"How come she pulls off moves like that? She must practice a lot in private, huh?"
Someone at the table said, "She looks so quiet, but I didn't expect her to be so wild in the photos. She's already had so much to drink and still holding it together. Pour her another one!"
I vaguely remember someone pushing me and then I collapsed onto the floor.
I struggled to get up, but a leather shoe kicked me back down.
Something cold and wet was poured over me.
"Who picked out her outfit for today? Not bad, it's kind of see-through."
I crawled towards Colin. "Colin, please help me."
"I've had too much to drink. I don't feel good. Take me home, please."
Unfortunately, all I saw was Colin's cold face.
Miley nestled into Colin's arms. Their faces pressed together and he kissed her.
I saw Colin's hand slide under her shirt.
I felt a wave of nausea, wanting to throw up, but nothing came out.
Someone kicked me again. Several phones were shoved in my face.
Later, somebody was telling me to pose the way they wanted.
The whole night was a blur. When I woke up the next day, the aching all over my body made me feel like I was in hell.
Because I drank so much last night, I just had my stomach pumped.
Colin was by my side, looking all concerned. "Amelia, are you okay? You drank way too much last night and passed out. I brought you back right away."
"Miley is really worried about you, too. She went out to get you something to eat."
I weakly closed my eyes, not wanting to look at him anymore.
"Colin, I want to sleep for a bit. Can you leave me alone for now?"
Colin looked at me with slight worry, but then he left the room.
Once I was alone, I quickly ripped the IV out of my hand, put on my shoes and walked out of the hospital.
Three days had passed. Today was the day I was leaving this place.
I didn't want to stay in this city for another minute.
By the time Colin got back to the hospital, I wouldn't be in that bed anymore.
The sharp ring of the phone shattered the quiet of the hospital room.
The empty hospital made Colin look a little lost. When he answered the phone, the person on the other end sounded really anxious.
"Colin! Something bad happened!"
Colin suddenly looked up, a bad feeling washing over him.
