Chapter 4
When the bell rang for class, Jordan finally arrived, looking very proud. When he saw me, it was natural for him to sit next to me.
At the same time, I caught a glimpse of Vivien secretly turning her head and rolling her eyes, then lowering her head and fiddling with her phone, which made me laugh.
Laura followed him closely behind and greeted me, "Simona, can I sit here?" She pointed to the seat next to Jordan.
I smiled and nodded. Of course, they were a couple.
But I wouldn't say that. That would be too deliberate.
"Good morning, friends. Please sit down. You don't need my permission!"
Seeing me greeting her with full energy, Laura was stunned.
She was shocked to find that from yesterday till now, I was not the least bit angry about her.
On the contrary, Jordan was a bit abnormal and actually asked her to sit with the girl in front of her.
Laura stood there awkwardly. "I'm not familiar with those girls... I only play with boys, you know."
Jordan just looked at the blackboard and pretended not to hear.
The teacher had already started the class. All the students were sitting quietly in their seats except Laura who was still standing there.
The classmates cast doubtful looks at her. Laura was a little at a loss but still stood beside Jordan and was unwilling to leave.
When I saw this scene, I secretly felt sorry for her, but Jordan was determined not to pay any attention to her.
Laura became increasingly uneasy but gave me a look of resentment.
It was none of my business.
The teacher at the podium also noticed her and thought that such a student was disrespectful, so he immediately became angry.
"The girl over there, please find a seat and sit down."
Laura looked at the teacher aggrievedly, then pointed at me and said something in a voice that no one could hear.
Seeing that Laura seemed not to understand what she said and refused to sit down quietly after being called, the teacher directly took her to the front door of the classroom and stood her there.
Under the watchful eyes of the crowd, Laura looked so aggrieved and embarrassed, and her expression was gloomy.
In fact, university teachers were not like teachers in junior high and high schools. They would not easily make students stand in the corner as punishment. Laura was also the first person to be punished by standing in the corner in professional courses this semester.
It was miserable and embarrassing.
I poked Jordan's sleeve and pretended to scold him, "You didn't let her sit down just now. How aggrieved Laura was."
Jordan seemed somewhat moved. Seeing Laura's aggrieved expression, he was a little angry at me and said without thinking,
"It's all for you." Jordan realized he had said the wrong thing as soon as he said it and quickly changed his words with a smile.
"Isn't this just to give you the sense of security that all girls want?"
It turned out that boys understood these.
It turned out they knew how to make girls feel safe!
The reason why he didn't distance himself from Laura in his previous life was simply because he didn't want to, not because he didn't understand.
After realizing this, I became more and more disgusted with the person sitting next to me. If he hadn't glanced at me from time to time, I would have rolled my eyes.
After class, Jordan held my hand with a gentle look in his eyes.
"Will you come and watch me play basketball later?"
In my previous life, Jordan loved to let me watch him play basketball. The sun was strong on the basketball court. Seeing him and Laura having close contact from time to time, I had to keep telling myself to be magnanimous.
Every time I watched them play basketball, I got angry.
But in this life, I wouldn’t go.
Why didn't I just do something I liked? Why should I make things difficult for myself?
I pulled Vivien, who had clear eyes beside me and said with a smile, "I won't go. Vivien asked me to go shopping."
Vivien didn't care about anything and immediately agreed, "Yes, we made an appointment. I'm sorry, Jordan, for taking up your girlfriend's space."
A hint of displeasure flashed across Jordan's face, but seeing that we were all smiling, he didn't want to get angry.
I still remembered that in my previous life, every time Jordan took me to meet his group of friends, he always introduced me with some pride.
"This is Simona. Isn't she beautiful?"
In this life, I would no longer support him.
Chapter 5
Jordan and Laura left the classroom side by side. Vivien said helplessly.
"What? Are we really going shopping today?"
I put my arm around Vivien's neck and said, "Hey, we've put on makeup today, so why not go shopping? I'll treat you to lunch! Didn't you say you ran out of facial masks last time? Let's go buy some new!"
Vivien shrugged. "Let's go. Jordan doesn't look like a good person. If he knew we lied to him, he would retaliate!"
I was pleased with Vivien's awareness, and the two of us took a taxi directly to the pedestrian street.
I walked out of the fitting room and angrily put the pair of jeans I had just tried on back on the hanger.
"Damn, I can't wear it. Clothes are getting smaller and smaller nowadays!"
I looked at Vivien. She was watching a short video with a serious expression. When she saw me coming over, she turned the screen to face me.
"Look, it's located in our university. Was it sent by Laura?"
I picked up her phone and saw that the video she was playing had already reached over a million views, with over two hundred thousand likes and over one hundred thousand comments.
The video content was a girl playing basketball from behind, and the video was tagged: [Girls can be handsome, too.]
The text was even funnier: [Today, I took a class with my good friend who plays basketball, and his girlfriend wouldn’t let me sit next to him, so I was punished to stand for the whole class. It was so unfair.]
The comments were all cursing the boy’s girlfriend, and some were comforting her.
[Girl will feel wronged. Why did she be bullied like this? ]
[Can that woman just go to hell? The seats in the classroom belong to everyone. Why can't the girl be allowed to sit?]
Of course there were a few exceptions.
[Am I the only one who thinks the owner of this video is cheap? The girl just wants her boyfriend to keep his distance from other girls...]
However, the comment was quickly drowned out by more abusive comments.
At first, I thought this was not Laura until I clicked on her homepage, scrolled to the bottom, and saw the two retouched selfies. I could vaguely recognize her.
In the comment section of that rarely viewed video, I saw a familiar account, which was Jordan.
He commented with an emoji.
It was so funny. I didn’t find these in my previous life. I really found something new.
"It seems that it is really her. Laura distorted the facts too much." Vivien curled her lips.
I took out my phone, found the video, and commented.
[Hi, everyone. I am the girlfriend of the boy mentioned by the video subject. We had class together this morning and I kindly and clearly stated that she could sit next to my boyfriend, not like what she said in the copy.]
Since others had slandered me, of course I had to clarify myself.
After commenting, I calmly continued shopping with Vivien, completely forgetting about it.
At noon, I took Vivien to a newly opened barbecue restaurant, and after the meal, we bought some skin care products together.
It was almost sunset in the afternoon when we returned to university carrying our bags. Everything seemed normal.
But when I returned to the dormitory, I felt the hostile looks from my roommates.
I was a little confused and thought it was my illusion. I smiled and shared the extra drinks with them, but no one paid any attention to me.
I looked at them in confusion. After several minutes, the dormitory head couldn't help but speak.
"Simona, everyone treats you as a friend, but I didn't expect you to be such a person!"
I was even more at a loss and had no idea what she was talking about.
After being stunned for ten seconds, I suddenly thought of something, and quickly took out my mobile phone and found Laura's video.
It was shocking.
The popularity of the video had reached an unprecedented high.
There were many unfriendly comments from netizens under my comment.
[Are you okay? If you hadn't stopped the girl from sitting down, would she have been punished to stand? ]
[It's obvious that this woman is a habitual offender. She doesn't even think before she lies.]
[Your selfies on your homepage are so pretty. How can you be so mean? ]
I wanted to clarify, but I couldn't refute it.
Just because of the popularity that Laura brought me, my account gained more than ten thousand followers, all of whom were there to curse me in private messages.
Suddenly, I was subjected to so much hostility from netizens, and my head was a little buzzing.
However, since I had evidence, as long as I am reasonable, I believed that netizens would not be aggressive.
Just as I was about to write the clarification copy, the phone rang unexpectedly.
Almost everyone in the dormitory turned their heads towards me as if they were watching a fun event. I looked at them and then immediately looked away.
Chapter 6
The person who called me was Jordan, who just said he wanted to treat me to a midnight snack and asked me to go downstairs quickly.
I guessed he must have seen the video of Laura, and he invited me downstairs for a midnight snack, probably to comfort me for being bullied.
But I actually overestimated his character.
As soon as we went downstairs, Jordan stuffed an exquisitely packaged jewelry box into my hands.
Although the bracelet in the box looked inferior and ugly, I still thanked him gently.
"As long as you like it." Jordan smiled dotingly.
I couldn't help but feel nauseous, wondering why I didn't realize he was so greasy in my previous life.
On the way to the barbecue restaurant, Jordan kept talking about how well he played basketball in the afternoon and how so and so everyone didn't play as well as him.
I pretended to admire him and agreed with him, but actually, I was absent-minded. This man didn't even mention the video posted by Laura?
I was a little confused about why he took me out for a midnight snack.
When we arrived at the barbecue restaurant, we found that his friends were already waiting for us. When they saw me, they all said in unison.
"Hello, Simona!"
I was so embarrassed that I almost sprained my ankle.
Thinking about it carefully, this should be the first time that Jordan had taken me to meet his friends in this life. As expected, this step could never be skipped.
"Let me introduce you guys. This is my girlfriend. Isn't she pretty?"
I heard his familiar tone and familiar words again.
I was sure that Jordan knew that I was cyber-bullied by tens of thousands of netizens because of that video, but he didn't care about it at all.
Instead, he still treated me as a tool for his friends to admire.
The sentiment of the tool was not important.
What really chilled me was that he had no empathy at all.
Although I was a reborn person and should be more emotionally stable, at this moment, I really felt a little bit depressed again.
But I knew that I must play my part well first and try to be a sensible girlfriend so that even if we break up in the future, he wouldn't slander or retaliate against me.
Jordan's friends and I were chatting and laughing, and the pride on Jordan's face became more and more intense.
After finishing the midnight snack, Jordan's friend named Sam Holmes spoke unconsciously.
"I saw the video Laura posted. Simona has been scolded. Jordan, don't you care about it?"
As soon as these words were spoken, everyone fell silent, as if silently accusing Sam said.
But this was an excellent opportunity for me. I took the chance to complain.
"Yeah, many people even sent me private messages scolding me. I was upset."
As I said this, I covered my face.
Jordan took a big gulp of beer and showed a polite smile again.
"Don't worry about it. Let's eat. I don't understand the relationships between girls. They will be fine in these days."
He asked his friends to continue eating and drinking and even brought the menu to order more dishes.
And my complaints were just ignored.
Actually, this was all because of him. It was he who insisted on not letting Laura sit in that position, but I was the one who got blamed.
I looked at Sam. His expression was puzzled. He seemed innocent among this group of cunning men.
Jordan was called out of the dinner party by a message, and before leaving, he asked me to treat his friends well.
In all likelihood, it was Laura who called him away.
In order to avoid an awkward silence, his friends talked about me. He pointed at the jewelry box I had placed on the table and said, "Simona, this is what Jordan carefully picked for you. We have all seen it. Why don't you wear the bracelet?"
Several male classmates shouted in unison, "Yes, Simona, try it!"
But when I opened the jewelry box and revealed the cheap bracelet that had nothing to do with the box, everyone's faces changed.
Everyone fell silent again.
It was Sam who spoke again. He scratched his head and said in confusion.
"Jordan showed it to us before, and that bracelet is not this one at all. It's made of silver, and very beautiful. This one is so ugly..."
I covered my mouth in surprise, then shook my head firmly. "No! I believe Jordan would not lie to me! You must remember it wrong."
They all looked at me with sympathy.
The dinner ended quickly, and when I was leaving, the boss stopped me and said that Jordan had not paid the bill yet.
I looked to his good friends for help, but one of them said.
"Jordan said he would treat us all, so..."
I smiled and nodded. "I understand. It's okay. I'll pay for it."
I almost gritted my teeth when I said this. I could accept Jordan cheating on me, but I couldn't stand him using my money.
This was painful.
But I immediately thought of a more vicious trick. I would call to borrow money.
I choked up on the phone. "Marco, can you lend me five hundred dollars? I'll pay you back as soon as I make some money from my part-time job."
Marco Price, on the other end of the phone, spoke calmly and patiently asked me what was wrong.
I told him everything.
"Is that so..." He said calmly.
At the same time, the notification sound of the five hundred transfer message rang out.
On the phone, Marco seemed to be hesitant to speak.
"Marco, what do you want to say?" I asked.
"I also saw the video posted by Laura. It's a big deal. I sat in front of you in class today, so I know that Laura's punishment has nothing to do with you, but those people on the Internet..."
"I'm innocent. I think there will always be a solution!"
