Chapter 1

For the ninety-ninth time, I woke up in my boyfriend's bed and instinctively ran my fingers through his hair.

This time, he reacted with apparent contempt, shoving me away and throwing a bank card at me.

"There's thirty thousand in this card. I've calculated it at a thousand per time. The rest is your breakup fee."

I was about to stand up and question him, but he mocked me again.

"Charlotte, you're nothing more than a pretty doll I kept around. Who do you think you are, asking me for a commitment?"

The hand I stretched out stopped mid-air and I suddenly grinned the next second.

"Miles, you can dump me, but not your company. Not a chance."

——

I'd only been living in his villa for a month, but Miles couldn't keep his hands off me in that short time. At least three times a day, without fail.

I thought physical desire was more dependable than emotional affection. I really believed we were lovers, unspoken but understood.

Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine I was just a toy for Miles to pass his boredom.

As he got dressed, he threw another jab at me.

"Listen here, Miss Guzmán, I'm warning you, don't ever bother me again."

"We live in different worlds. We were never meant to be together."

I stared at him, trying my best to remain calm.

"Are you saying I'm not good enough for you?"

The next second, Miles turned around and yelled at me.

"That's right! You're just a plaything to satisfy my needs. I'm sick of you now that I've had my fill."

I was stunned for a few seconds before I spoke again.

"Can I at least know why?"

Miles scoffed, his gaze icy.

"Why? You're just a toy for my amusement. Do I really need to explain myself?"

After hearing this, I grabbed his hand tightly.

"You're not leaving until you make things clear."

Miles yanked his hand away, then unlocked his phone screen and shoved it in my face.

"Take a good look. Only an exceptional woman like her deserves to be my wife."

"And you … you're simply not worthy."

I recognized the woman in the photo instantly. His secretary, Camila Jacobs.

She'd been sent on a business trip out of town a month ago. If the dates lined up, today would be the day she returned.

I didn't say anything and Miles mistook my silence for surrender. His eyes grew even more contemptuous.

"I promised Camila that if she could land the Brynton deal, I'd marry her the moment she got back."

I slowly raised my head and gave him a long, meaningful look.

"Miles, you can't possibly think that your secretary landed that deal, can you?"

The moment the words left my lips, Miles' expression shifted dramatically.

"Of course! Camila worked herself to the bone for that deal. She's been gone for a whole month!"

"If not her, then who? You? A pretty little thing who only knows how to whine?"

When I heard Miles' words, I almost burst out laughing.

He'd actually hit the nail on the head. Camila had been using company funds to eat, drink and be merry in Brynton, never meeting the client.

In the end, I couldn't stand it anymore. So, I called Brynton directly.

If it weren't for my connections, Sawyer Enterprise probably wouldn't be qualified to bid based on its current strength.

Strangely, in Miles' version, Camila had become the company's hero while I was useless.

The thought sent my anger soaring.

"Miles, I'm asking you one last time."

"Are you sure you want to break up with me?"

Without a moment's hesitation, Miles nodded emphatically.

"Yes! That's right!"

"From this moment on, there's absolutely nothing between us anymore."

Chapter 2

"Those three hundred thousand were just my breakup fee to you. Take the money and get the hell out of my house."

I glanced at the cold bank card lying on the bed and shook my head helplessly.

"Mr. Sawyer, I don't want the money. I just want to ask you one thing."

As I said that, I suddenly changed the subject and stared at him thoughtfully.

"I want to know, have you had no feelings for me in the past month?"

Miles raised his eyebrows frivolously, with a disdainful expression on his face.

"Feelings? Are you insane? I'm the chairman of the Sawyer Enterprise. Why would I fall for a pretty doll like you?"

"You're nothing more than being slightly better in bed with a few more tricks up your sleeve. Besides that, what else is there for me to appreciate?"

Halfway through his words, Miles' gaze suddenly sharpened as he looked at me.

"Charlotte, let me be frank with you. Someone from a family like mine can never be with someone like you."

I suppressed a smile, mimicking his tone as I retorted on the spot.

"Mr. Sawyer, since you've been so candid, let me tell you the truth as well."

"The level you can currently reach is nothing more than a glimpse of the celestial palace."

"Without me, your Sawyer Enterprise is nothing."

Miles kicked me out with only a few changes of clothes.

Looking at the place where I have lived for almost a month, I couldn't help but feel a little emotional.

Today, I had initially planned to lay my cards on the table, tell Miles my real identity and take him back to Brynton to meet my parents.

But who would've thought? After sleeping with me nearly a hundred times in this house, all he saw me as was a tool to relieve his desires.

The more I thought about it, the more I couldn't swallow the frustration in my chest.

Without hesitation, I hailed a cab and headed straight to his company.

From the entrance all the way to the chairman's office, employees kept whispering and pointing at me.

"Hey, isn't that Miss Guzmán? What's she doing here?"

"You didn't hear? Shen fired her already. She's probably here begging for that breakup money."

"I knew it. Depending on a man never ends well. Now she's not only dumped but jobless too."

I understood clearly that, in the eyes of these employees, I was now just a clown.

"Charlotte, didn't I already give you the money? What the hell are you doing here?"

Miles stormed out of his office, eyes full of disgust.

I suppressed my anger, my gaze fixed firmly on him.

"I just heard your employees say that the company plans to fire me?"

As soon as I finished speaking, all the company employees focused on me, seemingly curious whether I would be fired.

Initially, I just wanted a clean break. Still, I never expected this man to act without any consideration for the consequences.

Being fired and resigning are two completely different things. If this news spreads to Brynton, how will I ever face anyone again?

Miles waved his hand impatiently.

"Charlotte, why are you still being so clingy?"

"Didn't I already tell you this morning? I don't need you anymore."

I looked at him coldly, my voice devoid of any emotion.

"Miles, I'm asking you, will you fire me?"

As soon as I finished speaking, Miles immediately started yelling at me.

"Yes! I'm going to fire you, so what?"

"I was originally thinking of saving you some face, but you went and chased me all the way to the company."

"Charlotte, let me make it crystal clear. My company doesn't keep pretty faces around for decoration."

Chapter 3

After hearing what he said, I froze briefly and let out a soft sigh.

"Miles, you're going to regret this."

Miles sneered after hearing what I said.

"Regret? Why would I regret it?"

"I gave you the general manager position because you served me daily."

"Now that Camila is returning soon, you should naturally give up your position."

As he finished speaking, Miles suddenly became emotional.

"Charlotte, listen to me clearly! You're nothing but a dog I keep. You have no right to bargain with me."

Surprisingly, I didn't get angry when I heard that. Instead, I tried to reason with Miles calmly.

After all, I still had some lingering feelings for him. Otherwise, I wouldn't have gone out of my way to help him all the time.

"Miles, now you listen to me."

"I don't care what promises you made to Camila before, but you're still my man for now."

"I just want to tell you that the deal she secured in Brynton was because I made a phone call … "

Before I could finish, Miles cut me off with a wave of his hand.

"Enough! Don't tell me you're trying to take credit for the Brynton deal?"

As he spoke, Miles glanced at me contemptuously.

"Charlotte, I used to think you were quite honest, but I didn't expect you to have learned to lie now."

"Camila is returning with the contract now, but what about you?"

"Apart from sleeping with me, have you done anything useful for the company?"

His words made my blood boil, but I forced myself to take several deep breaths to calm down.

"Who says I haven't done anything? I just told you I was the one who secured the Brynton order."

"But you don't believe me even when I say it, so what can I do?"

I patiently explained to Miles several times, but he simply wouldn't listen.

"Charlotte, if you still have a shred of dignity, take the money and quickly get out of my sight."

"I don't care what lies you come up with. There's no way I'd ever be with a woman like you."

He even raised an eyebrow at me arrogantly, his eyes full of contempt.

The scene before me was so ridiculous that it almost made me laugh.

I was usually accustomed to keeping a low profile, unwilling to reveal my true identity. How did I become this kind of woman in his eyes?

Before I could say another word, Miles had already called security to throw me out.

"Charlotte, take the money and leave while I haven't changed my mind.

"Lest I regret it later and you won't get a single penny."

Seeing how firm he was, I didn't bother arguing anymore.

"I'll leave. But before I go, there's something you should know."

As I spoke, my gaze suddenly sharpened.

"If I leave the company, none of you can sign that Brynton order!"

Just as I turned to leave, Miles' voice came from behind me.

"Charlotte, stop right there!"

I paused and slowly turned back, looking at him coldly.

"What? Could it be that Mr. Sawyer has regretted his decision?"

Miles raised an eyebrow slightly, looking at me with disdain.

"Regret? Why don't you take a piss and look in the mirror? What do you have that's worth regretting?"

As he spoke, he ripped the employee ID card from around my neck in front of everyone.

"You can leave but must leave your employee ID behind."

I smiled and narrowed my eyes at him.

"Miles, I'm very curious. Why do you trust your secretary so much?"

"As far as I know, Camila hasn't even met the client. So how exactly did she secure this order?"
