Chapter 1

After I lost my memory in a car accident, Benedict Mortimer took a photo of my father's illegitimate daughter. He then tricked her into thinking it was me. He also asked her to donate a kidney to someone.

Later, the two of them talked about the old story when they were warming up to each other. Unfortunately, they were caught by my son. Just because my son recognized at a glance that the illegitimate daughter who looked like me was not his mother, she fainted in fear.

In order to put his mind at ease, Benedict ignored his son's claustrophobia and insisted on throwing him into a closed clinic for deep hypnosis. Fortunately, I received a message from my son. I rushed over to kneel and begged bitterly to Benedict.

“Eugene is most afraid of the dark, Benedict. Excessive fright is going to kill people. If you want to punish me, you can punish me right now. But, please, don’t punish my son.”

He interrupted me with a cold smile. “My son, Eugene, you should not be weak and afraid of the dark! His bad habits should also be cured, okay? How could it kill a person?”

When I tried my best to close my son's frightened eyes with all my might, suddenly a scene crossed my mind. In that piece of memory, I saw Benedict holding a grand and luxurious wedding with Adelaide on a private island. He did that to atone for his regrets. The lost memories revived at that moment, but it was clear that I was Adelaide Reverie.

They had cheated me of my kidney. They also were going to replace me with everything I have. I forced myself to endure the pain that tore my heart and lungs. I then called my mother-in-law's number.

I said, “Mom, I've got it all figured out. I think it's time for me to leave.”

——

My mother-in-law, Liliana Stewart, quickly rushed to the hospital. She was so shocked by Eugene's horrified look. Then she fell to the ground.

Liliana asked, “Adelaide, is this Eugene seeing a ghost? How could it be?”

“Mom, I'm Rebecca, not Adelaide.”

I corrected her with a bitter smile. It was only when she met my face, which was sad to the point of despair. She remembered that I said I had recovered my memory.

Under my direct gaze, she dropped her head. I then realized that she didn't dare to look at me at this time.

“Rebecca, how much do you remember?”

All of this happened when I couldn't close Eugene's eyes over and over again. Then those memories that were distorted by Benedict's hypnosis gradually recovered their original appearance.

I did not answer my mother-in-law at this moment. I just wanted to whisper in Eugene's ear and tell him that his mother would take him away forever. The moment he closed his eyes, we heard something.

There was a person walking in the ward. She was holding his cell phone, then she shouted in a loud voice, “Oh my God, they are already an old married couple. But the gaze of the Prince of the Mortimer Family looking at his wife is still as if he is in falling love! Whose husband celebrates his wife's birthday by promising to give her a dream wedding every year? He's really in love with her. It makes me want to get married!”

I was shocked to hear those words. I then looked at Liliana, who also looked confused at that time.

That young girl continued her words by saying, “If the light in his eyes can fall on me, I'm willing to die for him! It’s hard to imagine how happy I can be as his wife and have a child with him.”

I said in my heart, ‘If they knew that Benedict's wife and children had not even exchanged their lives for a single glance like this, would they still be envious?’

Five years ago, my mother-in-law looked down on Hendrick Reverie's illegitimate daughter status. She then forced her son, Benedict to marry me. When my father, Hendrick, became seriously ill and urgently needed a kidney transplant, he compromised to marry me in order to save my father.

I accidentally learned that he married me for my kidney to save his sweetheart, not to save my father. His secret girlfriend had a car accident on the way to the airport to escape the marriage.

In order to prevent me from revealing the truth, Benedict bribed a doctor to remove my anterior temporal lobe. He also hypnotized me and gave me the identity of Hendrick’s illegitimate daughter, Adelaide.

My mother, who died tragically in the car accident, also became the mistress who deserved it in his mouth. After being persuaded by him several times, I agreed to donate a kidney to make up for my mistake. From then on, I became an illegitimate daughter that even I was ashamed of.

I didn’t know that Benedict also united with my father to let Adelaide replace me as the Reverie Family's daughter. I also was shocked after knowing that Adelaide went abroad too far away from home for further study and recuperation.

In order to help Adelaide smoothly seize the family fortune, Benedict and I acted as a loving couple for five years. In these five years, I was not unaware of Benedict's weirdness towards me.

I then went silent for a while. I then thought and asked in my heart, ‘If we were in love, how could he not have hugged our son, Eugene, once? When Eugene was ridiculed for not having a father because he refused to attend the parent-child meeting at school, he could also be indifferent.’

Chapter 2

On the contrary, when Eugene got into a fight with his classmate for this, Benedict was so embarrassed. He even had the heart to lock Eugene up in the basement to reflect. That time, our son almost died because of claustrophobia.

When Eugene was locked in the clinic and hypnotized by the robot at that time, even though he was so afraid that his teeth were chattering, he still didn't forget to send me a voice message. I still remember his voice message at that time.

Eugene said to me, “Mom, is it true that if I overcome my fear, Dad will love me?”

By that time I forced the door of the clinic to break open. I then saw my son had been scared alive. I shudder to think what kind of hypnotic content could have filled Eugene's face full of fear.

I hugged his cooled body so tight. Then I told him relentlessly, “Even if you fail, Dad still loves you, My Boy.”

But the lie couldn't make Eugene close his eyes and calm down. Instead, when I said I would take him away, he immediately closed his eyes. My mother-in-law instantly burst into tears. She knew that she could no longer keep me.

After Benedict played a trick and turned me into Adelaide, Liliana also angrily rebuked him for his assholery. My mother-in-law even wanted me to leave her son.

However, Benedict was afraid that I would recover my memory and reveal the truth. It made him prefer to marry me. He wanted to ensure that I would always be under his control. I thought Benedict would be the salvation of my life with the identity of Hendrick’s illegitimate daughter.

Unfortunately, I didn't know that my husband was the real culprit who made my life fall into darkness. The day Benedict married me, he only held a family banquet.

My mother-in-law put the heirloom jade bracelet on my hand at that moment. She then said to me, “I know my son who has wronged you. I will let him spend the rest of his life making it up to you! If you regret marrying him in the future, don’t worry, Rebecca, I will help you leave, okay?”

I thought the sorry in her mouth was about Benedict coaxing me to donate my kidney. She also laughed and said that when she knew her son married me, it was the happiest thing in her life.

I really knew that the truth was too cruel. For the whole five years, I had not remembered the slightest. Now that my son was dead, the truth was nakedly presented.

My mother-in-law hugged Eugene tightly. She then spoke with shivering lips, “Rebecca, it was my fault. I was wrong, Rebecca. I thought that Adelaide had stolen your identity and wouldn't show up again after helping her mom take revenge.”

After hearing Liliana’s words, my heart already had been numbed by the pain. At this moment, once again the shock wave turned the situation upside down. Without waiting for me to open my mouth to ask, my mother-in-law took out her cell phone to call her lovely son, Benedict.

It was a shame that what we heard was not something pleasant to hear. From the other end came Adelaide’s coquettish voice and said, “Benedict, please be gentle. I can't bear it.”

The sound of love between a man and a woman made my mother-in-law so angry. It made her curse them.

Benedict’s activity was ruined at this time. He then said impatiently with a hoarse voice, “Mom, can you please stop spoiling our fun? Today is the wedding day of Adelaide and me. If you still want to hold grandchildren, stop it. Please, don’t make a fuss.”

The mother-in-law replied angrily, “Your son, Eugene is dead! You get your ass to the hospital immediately!”

Benedict immediately snorted with laughter, “Mom, you even made up this kind of lie in order to trick me into going back, right? Aren't you afraid that the spell will really come true?”

At that moment I couldn't say anything. I never thought that Benedict couldn’t believe her mom’s words.

Benedict said firmly, “Eugene Mortimer is my son, Mom. I have my own way of tempering and training him. You have to know that Adelaide has returned. I'm going to make up for what should have belonged to her one by one!”

The phone was mercilessly hung up. My mother-in-law covered her face and cried until she couldn't help herself.

Lilian looked at me. She then said, “Rebecca, I really feel sorry for you. All of this is my fault.”

I took a breath for a while. I was really confused at this time.

Liliana continued her words, “I shouldn't have indulged her in stealing your identity. I also shouldn't have allowed my son to treat you as a prisoner in the name of making up.

My mother-in-law was trembling. She then grabbed my hand and told me everything that happened back then. It turned out that Adelaide hated my mother for knowing that my father was cheating on her mother, but he still refused to give up her mother's identity as Mrs. Reverie.

I then knew that after Adelaide learned that the Mortimer Family was interested in marrying me, she deliberately approached Benedict. She even deliberately let me discover the truth and forced my mom and me to leave our house.

My mother and I thought that leaving the scumbag would be a new life. Unfortunately, my mother died in that car accident.

Chapter 3

My mother-in-law thought that what my father and his illegitimate daughter were asking for was for a mistress to rise to the top. But, we didn't expect that after five years, she would come back to steal my husband from me.

“Rebecca, I really don't know that she is so greedy. I just think that Benedict will love and appreciate you more one day and you two will live happily ever after without any third party like this.”

I looked at Liliana quietly and smiled ruefully. For the past five years, I felt that she treated me like her own daughter. But the cruel truth made her good to me, all tasteless.

My mother-in-law trembled as she took out a yellowed divorce agreement from her bag. She stuffed it into my hand.

“Rebecca, I know that paper can't wrap fire after all. Once you know the truth it's impossible for you to stay!”

I looked down at everything she had prepared five years ago. I suddenly laughed. In my mind, I said, ‘Oh God, how ironic my life’.

Five years ago, Lilian knew her son was so wrong, but she let me fall into the abyss. Five years later, she also knew that she couldn't stop Benedict and hoped that I would fulfil his love.

I signed the divorce agreement. Then I hugged Eugene's cold body so tight. We then got into the car to go to the funeral home.

My mother-in-law held the car door and choked. She said that she wanted to give Eugene a grand funeral.

I briefly said, “He doesn't need it, Mom.”

I actually didn't want the Mortimer Family to dirty Eugene's reincarnation path. My mother-in-law took back her hand and whispered to me that I could take the ashes away. She would send Eugene off with relics. She let me go free and I didn't interfere with her choice.

I went home with Eugene's urn. The movement of opening the door disturbed the entangled man and woman on the sofa.

Benedict gathered Adelaide's scattered clothes for her. He said carelessly, “I thought you weren't coming back today, Rebecca.”

I didn't want Eugene to be dirty by the mess on the floor. So, I held the urn tightly back to the bedroom. Benedict was ignored, wrinkled his eyebrows and looked at the door. He was not waiting for the expected figure.

Benedict suddenly asked, “Did you leave Eugene with my mother again? You hurry to pick him up and apologize now. I won't care about his mistake of frightening his aunt, Rebecca.”

His patronizing tone made me feel nothing but amusement. I asked in my heart, ‘An illegitimate daughter who killed my mother and son and stole my identity is also worthy of being my son's aunt?’

I slowly raised my eyes and stared at him. I then took a breath for a while.

I then said clearly to him, “Eugene is dead, Benedict.”

Benedict was stunned for a moment after hearing my words. His eyes burned with anger.

He asked firmly, “Are you sick? In order to help the child to avoid responsibility, even dare to tell this kind of lie?”

Benedict immediately called the old mansion. He wanted to ask the servant to send Eugene back.

The maid at his old mansion said with a grief tone, “Mr. Benedict, the young master has been taken away by the young lady.”

Without waiting for the maid to say more, Benedict hung up the phone. He then yelled at me, “Rebecca, do you think you can threaten me by hiding Eugene? If you have the ability, you can hide him for the rest of your life, making him as invisible as a rat in the gutter, Rebecca. Just like your father’s illegitimate daughter!”

I tugged the corner of my mouth lightly. I was too lazy to expose his ugly face.

He said again to me, “Come on, Rebecca. Why are you silent? Quickly explain it to me right now!”

Benedict pulled out his cell phone and clicked on a video. He then directly disliked it in front of me.

“Now that Adelaide is back, it's time for me to show you that you're nothing to me, Rebecca!”

In the video, it was the scene of him coaxing me to sign the organ donation agreement five years ago. He was full of affection and promised me that even if I had an illegitimate sister who couldn't see the light of day, he would still love me for the rest of my life.

When the picture turned, it was him swearing to Adelaide, who was pale on the hospital bed at that moment. Benedict was willing to sacrifice his own happiness as long as he could save her.

Benedict looked at me fiercely. On the other hand, I didn't know what else to say.

He explained, “Did you see it clearly, Rebecca? You have to know that I married you only because I had no choice! In these five years, I kept telling myself that you had donated your kidney to make up for it so that I could hold back my nausea and continue to act like a loving couple with you.”

I actually didn’t care about what he said right now. Unfortunately, he still continued his words, “I hope you can remember that it was you and your mother who were at fault first. You have to know that donating a kidney is the best way of paying off your debt! ”
