Chapter 1
Gwen’s Pov
On the day I was supposed to give birth I was kidnapped on my way to the hospital.
At first I thought it was a rival cartel messing with my husband and trying to ruin him through me.
My baby was cut out of my womb and I screamed in pain. I was forced to watch as they smothered him with a pillow while I screamed in agony.
I almost lost my mind when they placed my lifeless baby in my arms.
Then—Jack arrived with his men, guns blazing.
They shot everyone who was present in that room and rushed me to the family’s private hospital.
All through the drive, Jack kept consoling me and telling me I would be alright and we would have another child.
I didn't lose my mind for the sake of my husband but by the time we arrived at the hospital, I was barely conscious and I'd lost a lot of blood.
I don't know how long I was unconscious but when I stirred awake, I overheard a conversation between my husband and his best friend and in that moment, I wished I had died.
“… but what you did was insane, Jack. Kidnapping your wife and killing her newborn baby, that's next level heartless,” Matt said.
My heart stopped and for a moment I forgot how to breathe as my mouth dried up.
I was certain I was having a bad dream from all the painkillers the doctor injected me and not fully awake because this was insane.
But Matt continued and I realized it was no dream. I was wide awake but they had their backs to me so they couldn't see that I was awake.
“When you came in guns blazing I was a bit terrified because even though you assured us it would be fake bullets I thought you'd changed your mind.”
I froze, the blood drained from my face as my hands fell limply by my side.
“I’d never kill you, Matt, I just needed Gwen to see that I rescued her and killed all the masked men. Besides, I promised Cara I won’t let anyone take away our son’s place as my heir so I couldn't let Gwen’s son live,” Jack said casually like it was just another conversation and he hadn't just admitted to killing our baby.
My chest squeezed painfully as I tried to regulate my breathing.
Jack had betrayed me and killed our son for the sake of his first love, Cara, who abandoned him at the altar two years ago.
But they weren't done talking and with each word it felt like my heart was being ripped out of my chest.
“But when you took her baby’s umbilical cord to save Cara’s son, you could have left Gwen’s baby alive and why did you have to ask the doctor to make her sterile too,” Matt said quietly.
My hand instantly went to my flat stomach, that explains the severe pains I was feeling there.
“Cara has a son for me who is dying! If I didn't use the cord to save David he would have died. Besides, I don't need Gwen having more children when I have Cara,” Jack said coldly.
My ears were ringing. My chest rose—but the air didn’t come.
I wanted to scream. Rip the IV from my arm and make him say it again—to my face.
But I couldn’t.
I just lay on the hospital bed, body frozen, lungs burning, eyes shut tight.
The voice that used to call me “love” now sounded like a stranger.
“I don't know, Man, I just think what you did was pretty messed up. You killed Gwen’s son with your bare hands and made her watch. What do you think she'd do if she finds out?!”
My hand moved before I told it to. Just a flick—pointless, pathetic. Like my body still believed there was something left to fight for. But it was too late. My baby was gone. And Jack made sure of it.
“Don’t start this shit with me, Matt, I told you the plan from the start. I did everything so Gwen would believe and see with her eyes. Cara is my one true love and she ran away on our wedding day because she was pregnant, she fucking panicked! If Gwen ever finds out she can't do shit. She's a fucking orphan who doesn't have anyone except me,” Jack barked.
“Stop yelling before you wake her up!” Matt hissed softly
“She’s pumped full of painkillers. The doctor says she's not supposed to wake up until midnight,” Jack said.
My eyes slowly opened as I watched them still talking and walking out of my hospital room.
“I need to check up on Cara and my son,” Jack said.
When they were gone, I sat up on the bed with so much force, my head throbbed and my body ached.
Then I broke down into hot bitter tears as I ran my hands over my stomach and the memories of my son dying before my eyes flashed in my face.
How could Jack do this to me? What have I ever done to deserve this? All I’ve ever done is love him and this is the thanks I get.
He made me carry my child to full-term and then he killed my baby and made me barren.
All for the sake of the woman who abandoned him and made him almost commit suicide if I hadn't saved him on that bridge that night.
Jack was right about one thing — I was an orphan.
But I wasn't powerless.
I took out my phone and dialed the number I've not called in two years. The call connected immediately.
“Darling, to what do I owe this honor?” a smooth voice filled the receiver.
“I will accept your proposal only if you help me,” I said in a calm voice as I clenched the phone, my knuckles turning white.
“Have you finally come to your senses darling? Anything you want, just name it,” a voice said over the phone.
I closed my eyes, breathing calmly as I whispered, “Help me destroy Jack Velcro and his family. Then I’ll marry you.”
“Oh darling, that's my favorite pastime. When should I come pick you up?”
“Seven days. I need to tidy things up here,” I answered and hung up.
In seven days I will be gone and so help me God I’ll make sure Jack and everyone who hurt me pays in a hundredfold.

Gwen’s Pov
Jack didn't return that night and I didn't stop crying. I tossed around on the bed as the pain from the surgery of losing my baby and my womb clashed into me.
I desperately wished I could die right now. But I knew if I did, my son’s death would not be avenged.
No, I would remain strong and pay them all for what they did to me.
By morning, I had stopped crying and my heart had become numb. I lay frozen staring up at the ceiling as the doctor came to take my vitals.
“How do you feel?” the doctor asked me.
“Can I go now?” I queried.
The doctor was surprised as he quickly discharged me. I called a random lawyer I had found online.
“I’d like to file for a divorce,” I stated.
“I’ll send you the form to fill in and you'll get the official paperwork in three days,” the lawyer informed me.
After I hung up, the doctor showed up again with my driver.
“Mrs. Velcro, your husband asked the driver to bring you home. He's preparing your favorites,” the doctor said, smiling.
I wanted to rip out his teeth and ask him why he removed my womb without my consent but I knew the man was most likely threatened.
I forced out a smile, “Thank you.”
Then I left the hospital with the driver. When I arrived back at the mansion I've lived with Jack for two years, I stumbled upon an unexpected scene.
There, lounging on the couch was Cara dressed in a beautiful red dress that looked expensive. Her small baby bump was showing and my mother-in-law was doting on her.
My heart squeezed painfully as I realized she was pregnant for my husband and now she was in my house.
Cara caught my eye and spoke immediately, “Thank you for the kind offer, Mrs. Velcro, but I can't live here. I don't want to make Jack’s wife uncomfortable.”
My mother-in-law snapped immediately, “That orphaned bitch?! She has no say in this family. I don't know why my son is still married to her when he ought to throw her barren ass out.”
Her words were like acid but having heard what I heard yesterday they just felt like ice water.
I stared at them and then went upstairs. But I had barely made it halfway when someone grabbed my hair.
“Ow!” I exclaimed, whirling around, my scalp on fire.
“You stupid girl!” my mother-in-law snarled and slapped me so hard, I tasted blood.
“What do you want?” I glared at her, my eyes shining with hatred.
“Can’t you greet? Are you so shameless and rude that you have no respect? No wonder you were kidnapped and made to watch your child die!” the woman spat.
I glared at her, the tears threatening to spill at her words.
“Well, ask your son, he was there. I'm sure he knows all about it!” I snapped.
“Why, you —” She raised her hand to slap me again when Jack’s voice interrupted her.
“That’s enough, Mom, leave my wife alone!” Jack’s voice came from the kitchen.
He stepped outside, wearing an apron as he glared at his mother.
“How are you feeling, Gwen?” he asked me, trying to kiss me.
I pushed him away, repulsed by his touch. Once upon a time I would have wanted nothing more than to melt in his arms but not anymore.
His mother has never liked me. Mostly because I was an orphan who didn't have any big company or wealth to offer their family.
She had said I was only fit to be a breeder but even that seemed impossible now because of her son and no one would know that but blame me!
“Gwen, apologize to my mother and Cara. Why didn't you greet them when you got back home?” Jack asked.
I scoffed, “I didn't do anything wrong so I’m not apologizing. What are they doing here?”
“Is that how she talks to you?” his mother thundered.
“Oh, I have to leave. I don't want to cause problems between you both,” Cara said in a pitiful voice.
“Daddy, why is that bad woman yelling?” a tiny voice suddenly asked across the kitchen.
I looked across the kitchen and I saw the boy. He was a replica of Jack, a chip off the old block. He was about two years old, the same time when I had gotten married to Jack.
“Who… what is going on here, Jack?” I asked him.
And he looked me dead in the eyes and lied without a second thought.
“My brother is dead, Cara is his widow and David is his child. They have to move in with us because Cara is pregnant and can't stay alone,” Jack answered.
I stared at him, he was very creative with his lies.
“Why is he calling you daddy?” I queried.
Jack shrugged, “He likes it. I'm not going to tell him to stop because it will make him unhappy.”
I nodded just as he presented a steaming bowl of hot seafood.
“I made you your favorite,” he smiled.
I smiled bitterly, two years with him and he didn't know I was allergic to seafood.
As the steam wafted through my nose, my stomach rumbled and I heaved throwing up on the floor.
“Oh my gosh, Gwen, you should have just asked me to leave. Why are you throwing up over me and my son?” Cara said, sobbing.
I wiped my mouth and glared at her, “You’re far from me. How did it touch you?”
But Jack suddenly grabbed my arm roughly as he forced me to my knees.
“Apologize to them this instant or I’ll make you eat your vomit!” he threatened.

Gwen’s Pov
I stared at Jack with broken eyes and his eyes were suddenly filled with remorse as he released me immediately.
“I’m sorry, Gwen, it’s just —” his apology was cut short when Cara whimpered.
“Daddy, mommy is sick,” David’s voice sounded.
Immediately, Jack abandoned me and ran toward Cara. He scooped her up in his arms and caressed her forehead as he whispered in her ears.
“I think it’s the stench of the vomit, Jack, I feel so weak and I can't eat,” Cara cried.
“Clean that shit up!” Jack barked at me as he walked away with David following them.
My mother-in-law stared at me for a second and then she hissed and walked out.
Heaving a sigh, I cleaned up the vomit and the bowl of seafood that had poured when Jacob had grabbed me.
When I was done I went upstairs to the bedroom I've shared with Jack for two years without knowing he was a monster.
Jack Velcro. I had met him on the night Cara abandoned him at the altar. He had almost killed himself by jumping off a bridge.
That night I saved him and we had sex. He was my boss and I let him because I've been working in his company for two years and I've always had a crush on him.
Maybe because he was nice to me when my parents died and he helped me plan their burial but either way he has been a very sweet soul.
When we woke up, Jack blamed himself for taking advantage of me and wanted to take responsibility for me so we had a secret court marriage.
At work everyone thinks I was just his personal assistant. His family, especially his mother, was never in support of the wedding.
And I never knew when Cara returned or when Jack started being unfaithful to me but I knew one thing — she was back and he was no longer mine.
He was her puppet who would do anything to please him including hurt me and kill our baby.
I opened a file I had filed out weeks ago when I was close to delivery. It was my resignation form. I had decided I would quit work when I gave birth.
Now all I needed was to get Jack to sign these forms along with the divorce papers once they arrived.
I packed up the document and started removing all the pictures that was hanging on the wall. I gathered a box and tossed everything inside.
Then I brought out all the lavish gifts he had given me over the years and added them to the box. There was a slight knock and then Jack came inside.
Jack stared at me and the box then he frowned.
“Why is the room empty and why are you packing all the gifts I've given you?” he asked me.
I shook my head, “I don't like them anymore. I'm giving them out.”
Jack frowned, “Is this because I yelled at you? I'm sorry about that. I'll buy you more gifts. But I need you to try and get along with Cara, she's my brother’s wife.”
I scoffed, “You never told me you had a brother.”
Jack hesitated and then chuckled awkwardly, “Yeah, he was the black sheep of the family. Now he's dead, I’m responsible for them. And I promise you, Cara means nothing to me now, I have you.”
I stared at him, I desperately wanted to believe him but I already knew he was lying and that hurt.
I nodded, “Fine, but I don't want her living here.”
“She’s going to live here, Gwen. She's got nowhere else to go. I'll tell her to come see you so you both can patch things up.”
Jack smiled and wanted to kiss me but I turned so he kissed my cheeks instead. He didn't pay attention to it and quickly left.
A few minutes later the door opened and Cara walked inside. She smirked when she saw the bedroom.
“Good, get rid of all your stuff. I'll be moving in soon,” she said.
I nodded, “I know. You can have the whole house to yourself.”
Cara laughed, “Oh sweetheart, you already found out that your husband is cheating on you. Do you know what Jack told me today? He said your son died for a good reason. David’s doing much better now. You should be proud—your child gave mine a future.”
I sat down on the bed and stared blankly at her, “I can see you're proud, Cara, enjoy my sufferings if that's what makes you happy.”
I saw the happy look on Cara’s face dim as she glared at me.
“You’re supposed to be furious, Gwen, what is wrong with you? Your husband killed your child and made you barren because I asked him to!” she snapped.
“Congratulations, you have him wrapped around your little finger, I hope you enjoy him,” I said nonchalantly.
Cara stomped around like she was throwing a tantrum and then she grabbed me roughly.
“You bitch! You're ruining my fun so I’ll teach you a lesson,” she smiled wickedly.
“Let me go!” I snapped, trying to tug my hand free.
Cara wouldn't let me go as she dragged me to the top of the stairs and just as I freed my hand she let out a loud scream.
“Gwen, no!” Then she rolled down the stairs.
I heard running footsteps and a few seconds later, Jack and his mother appeared at the foot of the stairs where Cara lay bleeding and lifeless.
“What have you done?” Jack asked with bloodshot eyes.
