Chapter 4

Chapter 4

– Lea’s POV

I was observing the situation. Looking for an opportunity.

I stood behind the living room curtain, peeking into the backyard. Rebecca was doing prenatal yoga.

Beside her, a trainer stood by, giving gentle instructions.

Then I saw Sean—not far from them. Wearing matching workout clothes with Rebecca, he looked ready to join the prenatal yoga session.

Sean was so obedient. Even for something like this, he was willing to do it.

I sighed. I couldn’t let myself be consumed by old feelings.

My eyes shifted toward the kitchen. A maid was sweeping the floor.

“Have you done the shopping for dinner?” I asked in the lowest voice possible.

The maid shook her head. “Not yet, Ma’am. Once we’re done with the chores, we’ll go.”

An opportunity.

“I’ll go instead,” I said quickly.

The maid looked hesitant. “I’m sorry, Ma’am. I can’t decide that on my own. You’ll need to ask Mr. Sean for permission.”

I clenched my teeth. Every path to freedom was tightly guarded.

But I had to try.

I walked to the backyard with steady steps. Pretending to be calm, though my heart was pounding like it might burst at any second.

Rebecca was still engrossed in her stretches. Sean stood nearby, calmly watching.

“Sean,” I called, flatly.

He turned, his eyes questioning.

“What would you like to drink? I’ll make it for you,” I said, folding my arms across my chest.

He narrowed his eyes slightly, scrutinizing my movements.

But before he could say anything, I added sharply, “If you don’t want anything, fine. I’ll just go clean up the backyard.”

A small smile tugged at the corner of his lips. “Make me that health drink you used to make all the time.”

I swallowed hard. His answer pulled me back to the past.

I nodded quickly.

I returned to the kitchen at once. I didn’t want him to see me, not like this—like I still loved him.

“I’ve asked Sean. He gave me permission. Where’s the shopping list?”

The maid nodded and handed me a small piece of paper. “Here you go, Miss.”

My eyes scanned the note.

“Pears?” I asked in surprise.

The maid smiled. “You like them, don’t you? Mr. Sean said we should stock up more for you.”

My hands trembled holding the list. My eyes instinctively glanced outside, where Sean still stood.

Why was he suddenly being considerate?

But I couldn’t be swayed. This wasn’t the time to question the intentions of the man who had humiliated me.

Before leaving, I finished making Sean’s drink.

The last drink I would ever make for him.

I walked to the backyard and handed him the glass.

But before he could touch it, Rebecca called out, “Honey! Come here!”

Sean turned immediately. But before he could step away, I said quietly, “I moved some of your important documents to the study. Don’t leave them lying around again.”

He looked back. His face tensed for a moment, as if trying to read between my words. But Rebecca’s voice rang out again, and he walked away without saying a word.

I took a deep breath. Among those documents, hidden between the pages, was the divorce paper I had already signed.

This was the end of us.

Through the side door, I headed toward the back gate. A security guard stood there.

“I’ve been asked to do the shopping. Here’s the list,” I said, quickly and calmly, showing the note the maid had given me.

He looked at me, then glanced down at the list. No suspicion.

“Go ahead,” he said, opening the small gate.

Just as I stepped outside, a taxi pulled up.

I got in and shut the door with a sigh of relief. “Airport,” I said quickly.

The driver nodded and started the car. I closed my eyes. Finally… freedom.

But a few minutes later, I noticed something. The road we were on… wasn’t going to the airport.

“Sir… you’re going the wrong way.”

The driver said nothing.

“Sir!” I said more firmly, my voice starting to panic.

The car stopped on a deserted road. Before I could jump out, two men opened the door and dragged me out forcefully.

“Lea... Lea... Lea...”

That voice cut like a dagger. Rebecca.

My body was locked between two large men.

“Did you think you could escape me? You’re far too predictable.”

“Let me go!”

She smirked. “Before you die, I want you to know something. I never had anemia. The blood you donated for me? I sold it.”

My eyes widened. “What?!”

“I know you’re pregnant, Lea. I know the baby is Sean’s. But I won’t let your child ruin my child’s future.”

“You’re a demon, Rebecca!”

“Yes—and this demon is going to end your life.”

“I know!” I shouted. “You never loved Sean. All you ever wanted was his wealth!”

“We love each other, Lea!” she screamed, her eyes filled with madness.

“But because of you and your father-in-law’s will, I’ll never be his legal wife!”

Now I understood. That was why she clung to our status.

Not just for the blood. But for the inheritance.

Rebecca signaled. The two men dragged me back into the car.

Rebecca took the driver’s seat.

“What are you doing?” Panic crept in.

She only laughed and slammed her foot on the gas.

The car sped forward. The empty road ahead became a tunnel of death.

“Rebecca! Stop!” I screamed.

But she pulled out eye drops and dripped them into both eyes. Fake tears streamed down her face.

“Stop!” I shouted again. “You’re going to kill us both!”

But she just laughed—maniacal and cruel.

The car moved faster. Far beyond the speed limit.

Lea's POV

“Stop the car, Rebecca!”

I shouted, leaning forward, my hand reaching for the steering wheel.

But Rebecca only laughed, her eyes fixed on the road with a wild glint.

"Don't act brave, Lea. You think you can stop me now?"

The car sped violently, devouring the road ahead. Wind whipped my face through the slightly open window, carrying the scent of metal—and something darker, like a bad omen.

“Rebecca, this is insane! Stop! You’ll kill us both!” I cried, panicking, trying to wrest control of the wheel.

But Rebecca suddenly raised her phone and tapped the screen. A video call.

Her expression changed instantly—full of fake panic and crocodile tears.

“Sean... help me! Lea trapped me! She forced me to drive a car with failed brakes!”

I froze. Too shocked by her performance to respond in time.

On the screen, Sean’s face appeared. Tense. His eyes widened. “Where are you now?!”

“She wants revenge… she’s not in her right mind… she said me and our baby must die! Please, Sean…”

I tried to cut in.

“She’s lying, Sean! This is all her plan!” But it was too late—Rebecca had ended the call. She turned to me with a smug smile.

“Game on,” she whispered.

Rebecca sent our location with a single tap. One signal to the man who once loved me.

“You’re absolutely…” I was lost for words to describe her madness.

“I won’t let anyone take anything from me, Lea!” she screamed. “Today… is your death day.”

“Destiny never chose you, Rebecca. You’ve always been my shadow—a cheap woman Sean picked up out of pity!”

“Shut your mouth!”

Suddenly, Rebecca’s hand clamped around my neck, while her other hand still gripped the wheel.

The car jerked violently. The tires screeched on the asphalt.

I gasped, struggling to breathe as I clawed at her hand—panic rising like bile.

The vehicle swerved uncontrollably, snaking across the road. Horns blared around us.

I lunged at the steering wheel, yanking it left with all my strength.

Rebecca screamed, releasing her grip on my neck, then tried to shove me away.

We wrestled in the tight space, our bodies colliding in a frenzy.

“Rebecca, stop! This isn’t just about us anymore!”

But it was too late.

CRASH!

The car slammed into a utility pole at full speed. The world spun. Glass shattered.

My body was thrown against the dashboard. Pain exploded in my head. My vision blurred. Smoke poured from the hood.

My ears rang.

Faintly, I heard a voice…

“Lea?! Rebecca!”

Sean.

He had arrived.

He opened the driver’s side door, quickly pulling Rebecca out. “Baby, are you okay?! What about our child?!”

Rebecca winced. “I’m hurt, Sean... my stomach...”

My eyes met his. Sean looked at me—briefly. Only briefly.

Blood dripped down my temple. “Sean... help me…”

But he turned away. Without hesitation, he lifted Rebecca and rushed off.

Two bodyguards followed—but not one of them came near me. They glanced at me for a moment, then disappeared with him.

Leaving me behind... in a smoking, blackened car.

It felt cold. Not from the weather... but from the truth.

They really left me.

With the last bit of strength, I kicked the barely-hinged door open. I dragged myself out, gasping for air. My knees buckled. But I had to get away.

A few steps away, I collapsed onto the grass—and the car exploded behind me.

If I had been seconds slower... I’d be dead.

Rebecca truly meant to kill me.

I held back my tears. The wound on my forehead throbbed, but the pain in my heart... was something no doctor could ever stitch up.

I staggered along the quiet road, limping.

I couldn’t go back. I couldn’t get caught again. Not like this.

I was no one now. No name, no power. Just a woman named Lea… fighting to stay alive.

I didn’t know how far I walked until I reached the highway. I raised my hand—begging for help. But car after car passed me. No one stopped.

Maybe they were scared of my bloodied face.

Until finally, a black car slowed and stopped. A man in a suit stepped out, eyes sharp and cautious.

“Please... take me to the airport...”

He hesitated. But another man inside—probably his superior—gave a silent nod. Without a word, the driver opened the door for me.

I gave a weak nod. “Thank you…”

The car sped toward the airport. When we arrived, I ran—though my legs barely moved. I sprinted through the terminal hallway, barely making it onto the plane before the doors closed.

I sat down. Took a deep breath.

Safe.

For now.

My phone lit up. One message.

From Sean:

[Where are you? Don’t think you can run after committing that kind of crime!]

My hand trembled.

I opened the phone case, pulled out the ID card, and tossed it into the nearest trash bin. Then slid in a new one. A new number. A new identity.

I stared out the window as the city lights faded below.

And I whispered to myself:

Goodbye, Sean.
