Chapter 2
KAYLA:
Informing Elder Jacobs that I had accepted his offer felt like an impulsive decision.
Elder Jacobs was one of the prominent elders at the Silver Moon pack, which was the pack I originated from. Accepting the job offer from him was me killing two birds with one stone.
Two weeks ago, Elder Jacobs threw this job opening to me stating he needed my influence in the pack as a Luna. As tempting as it was then, I didn't have the mind to accept the offer. One, because Vance wouldn't like it — He never wanted me to work asides from doing my duties as the Luna of the Green Woods pack. Two, the job happened to be at my former pack which was far away from here.
Now, I had a reason to actually accept the offer and go back to where I came from. It was the perfect plan.
I was soon to believe I made the right decision while I went to the kitchen to get something to drink.
"I can't believe Alpha Vance will do that to the Luna."
I halted in my steps at the sound of that. That was coming from the kitchen and it sounded like one of the maids.
"Me neither," another maid responded. "The Luna has been nothing but faithful to him but he decided to cheat on her with that his secretary."
"Did you see the way the alpha picked up his secretary like she was his mate or something? I can't lie that made me feel bad for the luna..."
My phone dropped from my hand, causing a thud and I gasped. I should have been more careful.
I didn't want the maids to know it was me so I swiftly picked up my phone and walked off back in the direction of my room. It would be really awkward if they knew it was me listening in on them.
There was no need to actually contemplate whether or not I needed to go for the job anymore. My mind was made up now and I was going to follow through with it.
I was packing my things into my bag when Vance came into the room. He looked so tired when he walked in like he had a really long day.
On a good day, I would have gone up to him to collect his briefcase but for the first time, I didn't. Instead I continued with what I was doing while I managed to mutter a "welcome" to him.
"What are you doing?" was the first question he asked as he settled down inside the room.
"I'm rearranging my wears," I responded. Of course, it was a lie. But I was not planning to tell him that I was leaving.
"Why?"
"I'm trying to take out the ones I'm not using anymore. They look like a lot."
I was this close to telling him that I lost our baby but I kept mute at the last second. He doesn't deserve to know what happened to our baby not with what happened today.
I already informed the pack doctor not to disseminate any information to him, stating that I would do so myself. But I wasn't going to. Never.
He left the room shortly after to go freshen up in the bathroom. And it didn't take too long before I finished up with my stuff. This was more than enough to get me on board out of here.
My phone buzzed and I checked it to see that my mother was calling. I picked up the call to hear her ask: "When are you coming home?"
I informed her already that I was planning to head back to the pack which was what prompted that question from her.
"Not yet, mom. I don't know when but soon enough I'll be home. I'll see you soon, I promise," I told her, trying to be as quiet as possible. But I guess that did not work.
"Who are you seeing?" Vance was standing at the entrance of the bathroom with a towel wrapped around his waist while he stared at me with confusion.
"I'll call you back," I told my mother and hung up the call before facing him, "My friend, Lydia. There's this new restaurant in town that she wants us to check out together."
I said that hoping he would believe me. I mean, it was too hard to believe because I really had no business visiting a restaurant alone. However, that was the only thing I could concoct at that point.
"Okay," he said with a shrug and left me to my thing while he went to get dressed.
I sighed in relief, thanking the moon goddess for not letting him see through my lie. I sucked at it a lot which was why I always tried as much as possible to avoid any situation that led to me having to lie my way out of.
Before I went to sleep that night, I sent a text to my mother telling her that I would call her the next day. I didn't fail to notice Vance looking for his usual calming tea that I always left at his bedside every night but didn't do this time around.
Chapter 3
KAYLA:
"I don't want this," I said to myself as I dropped the top back into the rack. I came to the mall for some new clothing items but I haven't seem to have found anyone that interested me.
I turned around to check something when I am met with the most unusual sight. Not too unusual judging from the fact that I know about them already.
My husband was walking toward me with his secretary. And I could see that they were both holding each other's hands tightly. He probably said something funny because she was giggling like she had no shame left in her.
They noticed me and stopped. But it was only for a brief second because they continued walking toward me without even thinking of leaving each other alone.
"Hi, Luna Kayla," Juliet regarded me with a smile and I felt a bit annoyed at the sight. Who does she think she is to be smiling like everything was fine?
"What are you doing here?" Vance asked me. He didn't even look bothered to see that I was there while he held another woman like she was his prize.
"I came to shop for some new items..." I simply said while hoping they go away so I can leave.
"That's why we are here too, Luna Kayla. What a coincidence," Juliet said and I nodded in response.
Decency would expect Vance to let go of her by now but he didn't look like he was going to be doing that anytime soon. He sure doesn't respect me as his wife.
"Oh, oh, I want that skirt!" Juliet said in excitement and pulled Vance toward the part of the mall she was looking at while I stood there for a few seconds wondering if I didn't just witness my husband hold on to another woman without a care that I was standing in front of him.
The urge to get anything left me instantly and I found myself walking out of the mall. I got into my car and drove off to the packhouse. And before I knew it, I was home.
"I'm coming home, mom," I told my mother through the phone as I put a call through to her. "Tell father to send me a ride when I arrive at the pack."
I had my suitcase with me as I walked out of the packhouse. I already ordered a ride which arrived in no time.
The rider was swift with the ride and got me out of the pack in less than fifteen minutes. And when I was sure that I was quite a distance away from the pack, I took out my phone and typed out a text to Vance:
'We are done'.
I wish I could end things permanently with Vance but I couldn't bring myself to do it if he was standing in front of me. I know he wasn't going to see my message in time. And even when he does, he was not going to regard it.
I arrived at the Silver Moon pack — my home pack — two hours later. And when I got down, there was a ride waiting for me as expected.
The chauffeur wasn't one I recognized but I was glad I was going to be getting an easy route home instead of struggling to wait for a ride.
My father's call came through instead of my mother's. It was a bit surprising but I picked the call nevertheless.
"I'm here," I told him once I secured a connection.
"That's good," he said. "Get home safely."
I was at ease hearing my father's voice. It was the first in probably a long time. And I think I needed to hear him speak to know that I was indeed going home for good.
I thought I was about to get into another accident for the second time in two weeks when a car suddenly pulled in front of the one I was in, forcing the driver to put the car to an abrupt stop.
The shock gave me a little bit of shock as I reeled on how I lost my baby the previous week.
I was forced to step down from the car to catch some air because I was feeling nervous from the effect. I could hardly feel myself because of how I had reacted to the sudden near collision.
The owner of the other car suddenly got down and I was ready to give him a piece of my mind.
"Are you okay?" That was the first question he asked me and I looked up to give him a response.
My mouth suddenly couldn't move. I was feeling funny all of a sudden. And I could swear that this was the same way I had felt when I first found out Vance was my mate.
Did I just get myself another mate?
