Chapter 2

Arianna Pierce POV

The grandfather clock in the hallway chimed 2:00 AM when the heavy oak front door finally swung open.

Chase stepped into the dimly lit living room. He didn't look like an Alpha returning from urgent Pack business. His tie was loosened, his hair was slightly disheveled, and the oppressive scent of pine and storm that usually surrounded him was suffocated by the sickeningly sweet, artificial stench of lily perfume.

My eyes immediately caught the faint smear of red lipstick on his crisp white collar.

He paused, his deep, narrow eyes landing on me sitting on the sofa, and then shifted to the 26-inch suitcase resting by my feet. A cruel, mocking smirk tugged at the corner of his lips.

"Packing your bags at two in the morning?" Chase sneered, his voice slurred with expensive bourbon. He unbuttoned his cuffs, radiating absolute arrogance. "Brandin told me you saw the video. Is this your new tactic, Arianna? Throwing a tantrum and threatening to leave because I welcomed our Healer back? You're a wolfless. You wouldn't survive a day outside the Pack's borders."

He didn't ask about the hospital. He didn't ask about the blood I had shed or the Alpha pup we had lost just hours ago.

I looked at the man I had loved so desperately for three years, feeling absolutely nothing but a hollow, freezing calm.

"I'm not threatening you, Chase," I said, my voice eerily steady as I stood up. "I'm leaving."

His jaw tightened, his dark eyes flashing with irritation. He hated when things slipped out of his control. In his mind, I was supposed to cry, to beg, to fall to my knees and ask for his affection. To punish my disobedience and reassert his absolute dominance, he took a step forward, his Alpha aura flaring aggressively.

"You want to play this game?" he growled, towering over me. "Fine. Let's end this pathetic charade."

He looked down at me, his eyes cold and merciless, and spoke the words that were meant to break me.

"I, Chase Wilder, reject you, Arianna Pierce, as my mate."

He crossed his arms, waiting for me to shatter.

Instead, I met his gaze without a single flinch. I didn't hesitate for a fraction of a second.

"I, Arianna Pierce, accept your rejection."

The moment the words left my lips, the mate bond snapped.

It wasn't just pain; it was a catastrophic, soul-shredding agony. It felt as if an invisible, jagged blade had been driven straight through my chest, violently ripping a piece of my soul away. The metallic taste of blood instantly flooded my mouth. I dug my fingernails into my palms so hard the skin broke, forcing myself to swallow the blood back down. I refused to show him a single ounce of weakness.

Chase's arrogant smirk vanished. He staggered back half a step, his hand instinctively flying to his chest. His Black Dire Wolf was thrashing beneath his skin, howling in sudden, inexplicable panic at the permanent loss of the bond.

I grabbed the handle of my suitcase. Out of three years of pathetic muscle memory, I paused and looked at him one last time.

"There is a pot of Herbal Detox Tea on the kitchen counter," I said coldly. "Drink it. It'll help with your hangover."

I turned my back on him and walked toward the door.

"Stay."

The word wasn't a request; it was an Alpha's Command. The sheer force of his authority slammed into the room, a suffocating pressure designed to force any lower-ranking wolf—especially a wolfless—to their knees.

But as the pressure hit me, something miraculous happened. The agony of the broken bond seemed to crack open a seal deep within my blood. A strange, icy clarity surged through my veins, wrapping around my mind like a protective shield. The command washed over me, completely ineffective.

I didn't stop. I pushed the heavy oak door open and stepped out into the freezing night air, letting the door click shut behind me.

As I walked down the porch steps toward the iron gates, my senses felt unnaturally sharp. The dormant White Wolf bloodline, stirred by the trauma, amplified my hearing for a fleeting moment.

Through the cracked living room window, I heard Chase's voice. Wolves often spoke aloud when a mind-link caught them off guard.

"No, Brandin, she's not throwing a tantrum," Chase growled, his voice trembling with a volatile mix of fury and a deeply buried, frantic denial. "She accepted my Rejection."

Chapter 3

Arianna Pierce POV

The freezing night air whipped against my face, but I barely felt it. Standing by the iron gates of the Alpha's Estate, I waited for the Uber I had hailed using a human app.

Through the cracked living room window, the voices of my former mate and his Gamma drifted into the night. The dormant White Wolf bloodline, momentarily awakened by the trauma of the severed bond, made their conversation crystal clear.

"How could you do this, Chase?" Brandin's voice was laced with disbelief. Even from out here, I could sense his Grey Dire Wolf pacing in distress. "She just lost your pup to a Rogue's silver blade. And you Rej—"

"Keep your voice down," Chase snapped. Beneath his arrogant tone, I could hear the frantic, erratic thumping of his heart. His Black Dire Wolf was thrashing in unprecedented panic over the permanent loss of our bond, but Chase's colossal ego refused to acknowledge it. "I already had the separation papers and the fifty-million-dollar compensation card drawn up. A wolfless who can't even carry an Alpha pup isn't fit to be my Luna."

There was a heavy pause. "I bet she's actually done this time," Brandin muttered. "Three years of devotion, Chase. You broke her."

Chase let out a dark, mocking laugh. "She's just throwing a fit over the pup. A wolfless bitch with no inner wolf can't survive a day outside the Pack's borders. I bet you by sunrise, she'll be on her knees at these very gates, begging me to take her back."

Standing in the shadows, a cold, liberated smile touched my lips. I slipped my hand into my coat pocket, my fingers brushing against the cold plastic of the fifty-million-dollar compensation card. I had taken it without a second thought. It was the absolute least he owed me for three years of emotional abuse.

Headlights pierced the darkness as a standard black sedan pulled up to the curb. I opened the door, slid my suitcase into the back, and got in.

"Free No.1 Luxury Penthouse Complex, please," I told the human driver.

As the car sped away, leaving the suffocating pine and storm scent of the Wilder Pack behind, the massive gap between Chase's delusion and my reality almost made me laugh out loud. He thought I was playing a game. He had no idea the board had already been flipped.

An hour later, the taxi pulled up to the heavily guarded gates of the Free No.1 complex in the heart of the human city. The security here was impenetrable, completely isolated from the noise and prying eyes of the werewolf world.

I took the private elevator straight to Building 7, Penthouse 1.

When I pushed the heavy mahogany door open, I stepped into nearly three thousand square feet of pristine, minimalist perfection. Floor-to-ceiling windows overlooked the glittering city skyline.

The air smelled of fresh linen and faint citrus. Not a single trace of an Alpha's oppressive pheromones.

I dropped my suitcase in the hallway. The place was spotless, completely ready for me to move in. And that wasn't a coincidence. I had used the early dividends from my Lugi-X defense system to secretly purchase this property months ago.

More importantly, I had used my AI system to schedule a human cleaning crew to prep the penthouse *before* I went for my walk near the territory borders this afternoon.

Even before the Rogue attack. Even before the silver blade destroyed my pup. Even before I saw the video of Chase holding Carly.

I had already planned to leave him. The tragedy of today hadn't sparked a sudden tantrum; it had merely killed the last pathetic, lingering ounce of pity I had for my own broken heart.

I walked into the massive marble bathroom, stripped off my blood-stained clothes, and stepped under the scalding spray of the shower. I scrubbed my skin until it was raw, washing away the stench of hospital bleach, wolfsbane, and the ghost of Chase's touch.

When I finally crawled into the center of the massive king-sized bed, the silence in the room was deafening. But for the first time in three years, the emptiness in my chest where the mate bond used to be didn't feel like a wound. It felt like a sanctuary.

I pulled the silk duvet over my shoulders, letting the profound, absolute peace of my new reality pull me into a deep, dreamless sleep.
