Chapter 3

[Hmph, you better wear two layers next time. Otherwise, I’ll think you’re disgusting.]

[My sweet wife, I’ll be home to cuddle you once I’m done putting her to bed.]

The rage burning in my chest flowed straight to my fingertips as I furiously typed a message full of accusations.

But a cold wave of reason washed over me like ice water dumped on my head. My finger hovered over the send button.

I gritted my teeth, read it over again and again, then erased the whole thing without leaving a trace.

More messages kept flooding in, each one more vulgar than the last.

I suddenly laughed bitterly. God, how could I be so stupid? I wasted ten years being fooled by trash like him.

That single thought pierced my heart more deeply than any knife.

Just after I backed up all the evidence, Theron rushed out of the kid’s room.

"Babe, you’re still awake?" His voice had a nervous edge that was impossible to miss.

From the mirror, I caught his reflection, his eyes scanning the room frantically, clearly looking for his phone.

"What are you looking for?" I asked casually, setting down my brow pencil mid-stroke.

His gaze flickered. "Nothing. I was just putting Theo to sleep, lost track of time. I’ll make the bed, so let’s turn in early, yeah?"

Thud! A phone fell from the quilt he was fluffing, thudding loudly against the floor.

Even though he tried to act fast, I clearly saw him kick a second phone under the bed.

He quickly pulled another phone from his pocket, the matching couple’s model he always claimed was ours.

"Phew, lucky it didn’t break. This is the pair we bought together, remember? For me and my lovely wife."

I did not say a word.

Noticing my silence, he tried to act lighthearted. "Oh right, I’ve got a late video call with a client tonight. Did my phone ring just now? Babe, did you maybe answer it?"

"Should I have? It wasn’t a female client, was it?" I raised my eyebrows and looked at him.

His nervousness spiked instantly. He fumbled to unlock his phone, the way his fingers tapped the screen all over the place, completely out of rhythm, like a skipped heartbeat.

"Of course not! You can look through anything, I’ve got nothing to hide."

He shoved the phone toward me so fast that the screen nearly hit my face.

"Relax, sweetheart. Of course I trust you."

I turned around and continued filling in my eyebrows.

Trying to act casual, he watched my every subtle reaction like a hawk.

Once he was sure I had not noticed anything off, his gaze shifted uneasily. "Honey, it’s late. Are you heading out? Want me to drive you?"

I caught him glancing toward the bottom of the bed more than once and instantly understood.

"My best friend’s throwing me a birthday celebration at Ember Night. Wanna come with me?"

"Client’s been bugging me for a video call. It’s for the company, so I really can’t come with you tonight."

He shook his head, lifting his phone for me to see. On the screen, I clearly caught the name saved as [Dear Celina].

As usual, Theron acted reluctant but still walked me to the door.

"Babe, have fun tonight. I’ll come pick you up after the call."

He leaned in and kissed me lightly on the forehead, his expression soft and affectionate.

However, the vile words from that WhatsApp group echoed in my head on a loop. I recoiled, taking two steps back in disgust.

"Honey, why are you acting so strange tonight…"

Before he could finish his sentence, his phone rang again over and over, the noise making him visibly flustered.

"Babe, the car I ordered for you should be here any minute. The client’s really pushing for this meeting, so I can’t wait with you."

Watching him rush off, a heavy ache settled in my chest.

So, this was all I was worth to him. He could not even pretend to care for a few more minutes, not with Celina blowing up his phone.

While waiting for the ride, I opened the bedroom CCTV footage.

In the video, Theron was already changing clothes while video chatting with Celina.

"Baby, where should I come find you later?"

Chapter 4

"She’s gone out? That old hag didn’t notice anything off?"

"Relax, I’ve been lying to her for ages. You should’ve seen the pathetic look on her face, treating Theo like he’s really her own kid."

"Babe, let’s not waste time talking about her. I miss you like crazy. Tell me where we’re meeting. I can’t wait another second."

Stripped down to nothing but his boxers, Theron was practically panting after Celina like a dog in heat.

"You're clean tonight? Then I’ve got something wild planned for you…"

Hearing that second part from Celina shattered whatever defenses I had left.

My nails dug into my palms as I completely lost it. I was seconds away from storming back home and confronting Theron head-on.

Just then, a phone call snapped me out of my rage.

"Elena, your room’s ready. Ambervile Mansion, unit 803. You’re still not here? Are you messing with me?"

A crisp, light male voice came through the line. I glanced back at the screen showing that disgusting excuse of a man and that shameless woman.

Clenching my jaw, I forced myself to exit the surveillance feed and stepped into the car Theron had ordered.

As soon as I shut the door, the driver glanced at me through the rearview mirror.

"Ma’am, I think you got into the wrong car. This ride was booked by Mr. Theron for Miss Celina Lark."

I swallowed my anger and pulled up a screenshot of the trip confirmation. "I’m a friend of Mr. Ashvale. Here’s the booking info. If you don’t believe me, feel free to call him."

When I opened Theron’s contact on my phone, the driver visibly relaxed.

"So, when did Mr. Ashvale start booking rides for Miss Lark?"

"About five years ago. Mr. Ashvale hired me to be Miss Lark’s personal driver. He’s a great guy. He got me a job driving for the Thornevale Group too. I get double pay."

His words stunned me. So, to take care of Celina, Theron secretly hired a full-time driver right under my nose while I was still running the company as president.

"Does his wife know about this arrangement?"

The driver avoided my gaze and looked me up and down for a few seconds. "Aren’t you a friend of Mr. Ashvale’s? Then you must know all about his relationship with Miss Lark, right?"

I stared at him coldly, a smirk tugging at my lips, silently daring him to continue.

Suddenly, he slammed on the brakes. "You’re not Mr. Ashvale’s friend. Who are you? Please get out of the car."

With a faint laugh, I lifted my eyes and handed him a photo. "Since you’re a driver for the Thornevale Group, you should recognize this."

He took the photo of me at a press conference and studied it carefully.

Beads of sweat formed on his forehead. His voice trembled. "Mrs. Ashvale, I… I didn’t know about their relationship. I’m just the driver. Please, forgive me. I’ll resign right away if you want."

"Just tell me everything you know. If you’re honest, I’ll make sure you keep your job at the Thornevale Group until retirement."

And so, he told me everything.

Each word felt like a dull blade slicing slowly through my chest. My fingertips trembled from the ache building in my heart.

So, Celina had been living in the villa next door all along.

So, Theron’s business trips three days a week were really just excuses to be with her.

So, that vile man and his mistress had been carrying on their affair right under my nose for a full ten years.

How absurd. I had been with him for ten years and I was the fool left completely in the dark.

"Mrs. Ashvale, I swear I never meant to help them betray you. From the moment I accepted this job, I knew something was off. But Mr. Ashvale paid too well. I… I do have something that might help you."

He handed me a mobile hard drive. I wiped away my tears and said quietly, "Turn around."

The car stopped outside the villa. I looked up at the shadowy figures tangled together in the bedroom window, their bodies pressed close.

My fingers curled tightly into my palm, but I felt nothing. Not even the pain.

Chapter 5

The sofa and dining table were in complete disarray.

The room was thick with that unmistakable tension that lingers after an intimate encounter.

Startled, I accidentally knocked over a vase, which shattered with a sharp crack.

Theron hurried out of the bedroom. When he saw me, his face immediately tightened with nervousness.

"Honey, why are you back so soon?"

"I forgot the gifts I prepared in the bedroom. I’ll grab them now. Will this delay your work?"

I headed straight for the bedroom. With every step I took closer, Theron’s expression grew darker.

"Where did you put them? I’ll help you find them."

Just as my hand reached for the door handle, Theron stopped me with a forced smile.

"There’s too much stuff in there. I can’t remember where. You go ahead. I’ll find them later."

I insisted, pressing harder on the handle, but his grip on my hand tightened painfully.

"Honey, did I hurt you? Why are you so nervous? I’m only going into the bedroom to get something, not to catch someone cheating. Do you have another woman hiding in there?"

"No, no, it’s not that…"

Click!

The door unlocked from the inside.

Celina appeared in front of me, smiling. "You must be Mrs. Ashvale. I’m Celina Lark, Mr. Ashvale’s coworker. It’s nice to meet you."

Though Celina quickly dressed during the brief time Theron bought her, fresh kiss marks still stained her neck.

I swallowed my anger and extended my hand. "Miss Lark is very dedicated. It’s early morning, yet she’s working late for a meeting with Theron."

I paused, then said, "Theron, look at these sweet love marks on Miss Lark’s neck."

Theron’s face went pale. He opened his mouth but stammered out with no explanation.

"Why are you so nervous? Those aren’t really yours, are they?"

I fixed him with a steady gaze, noting his shifting eyes and laughed softly, "Dear, I’m just teasing. We’ve been married ten years. I trust you."

Celina sighed in relief and quickly covered the marks. "I’m sorry. I rushed this morning to meet Mr. Ashvale for work and didn’t have time to cover them with foundation. I hope I didn’t cause any misunderstanding."

I took Theron’s hand and pressed my body deliberately closer to him, watching Celina’s sudden stiffening.

"I’m sorry to interrupt your work, Theron and Miss Lark. I have a date to get to. Once I grab my things, you two can continue."

Celina moved aside quickly and kindly closed the bedroom door behind me.

I pulled out the disposable gloves I had prepared earlier and began searching through the trash.

"Baby, did you find it? Need some help?"

Before I could answer, there was a knock on the door and Theron pushed it open.

"Found it."

I stepped out, holding the gift I had prepared.

"But Theron, you really should dress more formally when it comes to work."

I plucked a stray chestnut hair off his pajama shirt.

I laughed softly. "This hair color is awfully close to Miss Lark’s."

His pupils suddenly shrank and his breath caught, almost stopping.

I gathered my long hair and tossed it into the trash.

"Good thing I met you in person, Miss Lark. Otherwise, Theron would have some explaining to do about where this hair came from."

Seeing I’d smoothly changed the subject, Theron forced a bitter smile.

"I’ll listen to my wife. Next time, I’ll dress properly."

To make sure I would not change my mind, he personally saw me to the car and instructed the driver to take me straight to Jinye.

Along the way, the driver glanced at me with a look full of sympathy.

I ignored it and handed the condom and two strands of hair I found in the trash to the driver.

Once everything was settled, I dialed a number. “Ambervile Mansion unit 803, right? I’ll be there in ten minutes.”
