Chapter 2

I was pinned to the ground as someone slowly lifted my long dress from behind. My exposed legs instantly prickled with cold.

Shrill screams and whistling sounds rang out beside my ears.

Amid the crowd's raucous laughter, a warm body suddenly pressed against me.

In that instant, it felt as though an electric current shot straight to the top of my head, leaving my scalp numb as humiliation peaked.

I struggled desperately, but it was all for nothing. In the end, I could only scream hysterically at Jason, "Jason, please! Get them to stop! I will die! I will really die!"

Perhaps hearing that I was going to die, Jason furrowed his brows and waved his hand, asking them to stop.

However, he did not plan on letting me go.

In front of everyone, he tore my clothes apart. Then, he picked up the camera and took many photos of me.

Before leaving, he grabbed me by the chin and, with a snicker, said, "Christine, you said you wanted a memorable birthday this year. I hope you got what you wished for."

At that moment, I completely lost it. All strength drained from my body as I covered my eyes and collapsed onto the floor.

That night, I scrubbed myself desperately in the shower, where I had been touched. My skin was scrubbed raw, but I still felt dirty.

Finally, I broke down and sobbed.

Our parents passed away early. Charlie and I had always looked out for one another.

Back then, he was on his way home from work and decided to help Lisa, but she accused him of wrongdoing.

She twisted the facts, producing some forged evidence to get Charlie into prison.

When I visited Charlie, he said that he was not afraid of being in prison. He was only worried that there was no one looking after me.

After Charlie was sent to prison, people often dumped trash at our doorstep, splashed paint on our walls, and scrawled vicious curses at us. Some even looked at me with lewd eyes.

I was always terrified to return home after work at night.

Later, Jason suddenly appeared in my life. At night, he would often follow behind me from a distance.

I thought he was someone with ill intentions. However, one night, a drunkard jumped out from the dark alley to have his way with me. It was Jason who chased him away.

To thank him, I asked him for his number.

Soon, we started getting to know each other better. He was handsome, kind, and gentle. I could not help but fall for him.

Later, we ended up together.

He would take me to work and pick me up from work, cook a feast for me, and accompany me to the rooftop to watch the moon.

He did not even mind that I had a brother serving time in prison, often accompanying me to visit Charlie.

I always wondered to myself how lucky I was to have met Jason.

That year, he asked me what I wanted for a birthday present. I told him that I wanted to spend an unforgettable birthday with him.

I thought that he would surprise me. It turned out it was more terrifying than delightful. He had planned his revenge for a long time, exacting it with precision.

Just when my love for him had reached its peak, he gave me a huge blow, sending me into the abyss of despair.

He must have loved Lisa a lot to endure everything and stay by my side for all these years, all for her sake.

Chapter 3

After that incident that night at the bar, Jason completely vanished from my life.

The malice that surrounded me flared up once more, getting worse by the day. The neighbors who used to bully us continued dumping trash and spitting in front of our door.

Someone even splashed our door with paint while hurling slurs at me.

One night, on my way back home, a group of people dragged me into a dark alley and started beating me up.

Their punches and kicks rained down on me. After having their way, they spat on my face and yelled, "Like brother, like sister. Neither of you is good."

Under the dim streetlight, I crouched on the ground, clutching my head and sobbing uncontrollably.

One of them suddenly reached out and jerked at my clothes.

I was terrified.

While struggling, I accidentally slammed into a protruding stone in the wall. Blood streamed down my face.

At my most panicked and helpless moment, I never expected Jason to appear.

He walked over and towered over me condescendingly. I could not see his expression, but his tone was icy.

"Christine, you must be having a hard time recently, right? If you need someone to blame, blame it on your brother. You're suffering in his place."

I did not look up. My heart was crushed so badly that I could not breathe.

Raucous laughter rang around me once more, but Jason interrupted them, saying to me, "Christine, I will make you live in fear, just like this. I will make your brother, who's rotting in prison, understand that he owes Lisa. Forever."

Then, he left without looking back. The men who had tried to violate me left with him as well.

That night, I returned home in a daze. When I saw a pair of clay dolls on the table, tears instantly streamed down my face.

Jason and I had made those dolls in an arts and crafts store when we were still in love. He made me one, and I made him one.

I initially thought of placing our dolls in each other's homes as proof of our beautiful love, but Jason said he did not want to be away from me, so naturally, the dolls had to be together.

He placed both dolls in the most visible spot in my home.

He even said he hoped we could get married sooner, spending every morning and evening together.

Those vows still echoed in my ears.

Too bad the man that I loved had completely changed. Just when I was engrossed in my memories, my phone suddenly rang.

It was a call from my best friend, Jenny Swinton.

She sounded a little hesitant, but in the end, she asked, "Christine, did you see what's going viral on the Internet?"

I searched on social media and immediately saw the photos of me in various states of undress.

The photos that Jason took of me at the bar the other night.

It came with a caption.

[The brother's a criminal, and the sister's not any better.]

More than 10,000 people had liked the post and reposted it with countless comments.

[Girls these days no longer have any self-respect, messing around everywhere.]

[Well, we all know that she's selling her body for fast cash.]

[Look at her figure. She's not bad. I would like to have a go at her, too.]

The overwhelming tide of abuse left my mind completely blank. The world spun before my eyes, and I could no longer stand. I slumped to the floor.

'Jason Chase, how cruel you are.'

Chapter 4

The scandal was far from over.

The next morning, a group of people had gathered outside my door.

When I left my house, a bald middle-aged man went up to me and smiled at me lewdly. He asked, "How much for a night, love? We're neighbors. I'm supporting your business. Can you give me a discount?"

I held back my tears, yelling at them, "If you're not going to leave, I'm going to call the police!"

My threats did nothing to them. They would not leave. They merely looked at me with mockery in their gazes.

A middle-aged woman walked past them. I looked to her for help, yet she gave me a glare of disdain, saying with a scoff, "Tsk, how shameless!"

My heart clenched. I balled my fists and forced my way out of the crowd.

Arriving at the office, before I could sit down at my desk, HR called me to their office. "Christine, the company can't keep employees who damage its public image."

They fired me without even letting me explain. I was escorted out of the company.

Walking on the streets dejectedly, the clouds suddenly turned dark, and it started to rain.

Completely drenched, my heart was completely crushed.

My phone kept ringing. I received many lewd messages.

[You want to have fun? You look quite nice.]

[How much for one night? How about one month?]

[You're just a whore selling your body. Reply to messages! Don't think you're all that!]

I knew it. My personal information had been dug up online. They must have thought that I was someone who sold my body for a living.

My phone kept receiving messages from strangers, getting ruder by the moment.

I finally could not take it anymore. I called Jason and begged him, sobbing and saying, "Jason, can you explain online? Tell them I'm not that type of woman. Please. I'm begging you."

There was only silence from the other end of the line.

As the rain grew heavier, I heard my voice getting softer. "What do you want me to do for you to forgive my brother and let me go?"

Jason finally replied to me. Every word of his felt icy to the bone.

"Christine, why don't you just die? Once you die, I'll forgive you!"

After hanging up, I wandered around the streets in a daze. The noise all around me seemed to have vanished.

All I could hear was Jason's voice saying, "Why don't you just die?" over and over again in my head.

I quickened my footsteps. After walking for a long time in the rain, I finally arrived at a bridge.

Jason and I had once been on this bridge watching the sunset. Back then, even if we did not say anything, everything felt great because we were together.

Since it was raining, the current under the bridge was violent.

I sat by the side of the bridge, covering my face, remembering the past few years. All the beautiful memories that I had with Jason were gone just like the current.

I called Jason once more.

He picked up and barked, saying, "Christine, enough! Stop harassing me. I don't want to hear your voice anymore!"

He was just about to hang up when I called out to him, "Jason…"

My tone was as gentle as when we were still in love.

He was stunned.

I wanted to smile at him, but then I remembered that he could not see me. I chuckled self-deprecatingly at myself and said, "Jason, I'm going now. I won't bother you anymore. Please let my brother go. Let me go. Let yourself go, too."

After a few moments of silence, Jason asked frantically, "Where are you?"

Smiling, I said, "Do you still remember the bridge that we often go to? You're right. The water can wipe everything away, even our pain and suffering."

I added, saying, "Jason, please let go of the hatred inside you."

Perhaps he had not had enough of torturing me. When he heard that I was by the bridge, he suddenly got nervous. He yelled, "Christine, you stay right there! Don't you dare jump without my permission!"
