Chapter 1
My husband's dream girl posted on Instagram.
"God, please help me find a burly caring man!"
Seeing this, my husband left his mother alone in the mall.
His mother, namely my mother-in-law, had just come downtown from the countryside and didn't know how to take the escalator, so she accidentally put her foot into the gap of the escalator.
I rushed to the hospital after receiving the news that my mother-in-law had injured an artery in the accident and was bleeding heavily. She needed amputation to save her life.
I urged her to have surgery immediately.
However, she was frightened by such treatment and flatly refused to undergo surgery.
"Where's my son? How dare you wicked woman want to chop off my leg? I'll never have the surgery unless my son comes!"
I called my husband more than a dozen times, only to hear a sweet female voice when I finally got through.
"Hello, your husband is showing me his biceps with a barbell in his hands... He might even perform breaking a rock with his pecs later..."
I interrupted her angrily, "Hurry up and get him to the phone! Mom had an accident and rejects surgery unless she sees him!"
Nathan Cooper chimed in coldly, "Your mother had an accident, but does it have anything to do with me?"
He ruthlessly hung up on me. When I called again, his phone was already powered off.
Soon, my mother-in-law died because of the delay in treatment.
Three days later, Nathan returned home. He didn't remember to ask about his mother until he felt the room empty.
"Where's my mom?"
I replied in a cold voice, "In the portrait on the wall!"

To celebrate his mother's 60th birthday, my husband brought her from the countryside and took her shopping in the mall.
Unexpectedly, Nathan saw a post from his dream girl, Antonia Samuels.
"God, please help me find a burly caring man!"
Nathan thought this was a rare opportunity for him, so he left his mother alone in the mall and hurried to see Antonia without hesitation.
It was the first time my mother-in-law had ever come downtown from the countryside, so she didn't know how to take the escalator in the right way and accidentally put her foot into its gap in a daze when going downstairs.
As a result, a serious accident occurred.
I took leave and rushed to the hospital immediately after learning about this. I saw my mother-in-law lying on the hospital bed with a pale face and an extremely frightened look.
"Go away, all of you!
"Where's my son? Tell him to come back!"
The doctor pulled me aside and explained to me in a serious tone how severe my mother-in-law's injuries were.
"The injured requires amputation without delay if we want to save her life.
"But she is adverse to the approach of medical staff, we need her family members to persuade her as soon as possible!
"If we delay any further, I'm afraid it may be too late, and her life may be in danger then!"
My dad was also a doctor, so I knew the scientific rigor of doctors.
Only by listening to the doctor could one minimize the harm.
Without any hesitation, I ran into the ward at once to comfort my mother-in-law and urge her to immediately undergo surgery.
When my mother-in-law saw me, however, she just flared at me.
"You wicked woman want to chop off my legs! You are in cahoots with them against me!
"Where's my son? I want to see him!
"If my son doesn't come, don't ever think you can trick me into having any surgery!"
My mother-in-law was very resistant to the surgery treatment.
She still insisted that she wouldn't undergo it and she should see her son Nathan even though her leg and foot were already bleeding heavily.
She persisted in rejecting the operation unless her son was present.
With no other way, I could only call my husband frantically.
After more than a dozen missed calls, Nathan finally answered.
A leisurely and soft female voice came from the other end of the line before I could utter anxiously.
"Hello, your husband is showing me his biceps with a barbell in his hands... He might even perform breaking a rock with his pecs later..."
There was even a giggle as she spoke.
Amid her voice, I could also hear a man's heavy breathing.
"Toni, who's calling?"
I froze.
It was Nathan's voice.
Chapter 2
Nathan had promised to take his mother to shop at the mall for clothes to wear at her birthday celebration.
But his mother had ended up wandering around the mall alone and accidentally getting into an accident.
I had thought that he was occupied with something urgent and unshirkable.
Out of all my expectations, he had just gone to hang out with Antonia.
At the thought of this, I raged, "Mom got into an accident and doesn't agree to surgery unless she sees you!"
Halfway through my demand that he should come to the hospital right away, I heard a snorting laugh from the other end of the line.
Then, Nathan's cold voice came.
"Your mother had an accident, but does it have anything to do with me?"
Just as I wanted to say something else, Nathan had already become extremely impatient.
"Jane Fenn, I'm busy with something important right now. You'd better stop bothering me! Just wait until I get home if you have anything to say."
He ruthlessly hung up on me. When I called again, his phone was already powered off.
I was in deep anxiety like a cat on hot bricks.
Just when I was trying to figure out how to find Nathan, I suddenly received a call from the hospital.
"Mrs. Cooper, your mother-in-law is at her last gasp. Come and see her for the last time."
I felt my heart skipped a beat.
I rushed to the hospital immediately.
My mother-in-law was ashen and bloodless.
She lay on the hospital bed, lonely, still murmuring her son's name.
"Nat, Nat..."
Although I was not close to my mother-in-law at all, I couldn't help but tear up at the sight of this and step forward to hold her hand.
"Mom, I'm sorry.
"I failed to let Nathan come..."
My mother-in-law glared at me.
"You must have hidden my son... I..."
Before she could finish her words, in a fit of rage, she suddenly spat out a mouthful of blood and soon died.
I had mixed feelings.
Until the last moment of her life, my mother-in-law still thought that her son was a dutiful one and that he didn't come because I deliberately stopped him.
In truth, however, Nathan was keeping his dream girl company, eagerly simping over her.
I made up my mind the moment my mother-in-law breathed her last.
I took out my phone and sent a message to Nathan.
"Let's get a divorce."
Chapter 3
The hospital had limited space, so I was informed that I should take my mother-in-law's body back.
I still couldn't get through to Nathan, so I handled my mother-in-law's funeral alone and chose a good graveyard for her with fatigue.
After three sleepless days, I finally managed to finish everything.
I printed out a divorce agreement and curled up on the sofa, waiting for Nathan to come back. I had just fallen asleep when I heard the sound of the door being unlocked outside.
Nathan was back.
As soon as he walked in, he smelled of strong perfume.
"Jen, cook me some spaghetti. I'm hungry."
Nathan habitually left an order before he took off his coat and went to take a shower.
He always liked to order me around like this.
Considering that he was busy at work, I often helped him with whatever he needed.
But I didn't move this time.
When he finished his shower and came out wrapped in a bath towel, he immediately frowned after a subconscious glance at the empty dining table.
"Jane Fenn, where's the spaghetti?"
I knew he was going to get mad whenever he called me by my full name.
I used to believe that a harmonious relationship required some compromises even if I had to sacrifice myself.
That was why he had become the way he was now.
But now I was tired.
"Go make what you want to eat yourself. I don't have the energy."
I could hear my voice was frigid and emotionless.
Nathan was stunned, looking at me silently in his bathrobe.
I slightly propped myself up and picked up the divorce agreement from the coffee table.
"It's been three days. You should have read my message. Sign it when you have time, and we'll go through the divorce procedures."
Nathan cast a cold glance at the divorce agreement.
Then, he uttered a snorting laugh.
"Jane Fenn, when did you learn to play hard to get?"
He sounded like he was often treated this way by someone else.
I gave him no reply and didn't bother to ask him anything.
After all, we would soon become strangers.
"We are solid. Why do we need a divorce?"
Faced with my silence, Nathan softened his tone slightly.
He sat down next to me on the couch and tried to comfort me.
"I was busy with something important when you called me a few days ago. That's why I sounded a little impatient with you. I'm sorry, honey."
I looked up at him coldly and asked flatly, "So, is showing Antonia Samuels how to break a rock with your pecs what you call an important matter?"
