Chapter 4
Gavin's POV
Next thing I knew, it was the day I was meeting Maya.
Mom kept pushing me out the door, so I left early.
I pulled up to the hotel—and bam, a giant wedding poster.
Jenny in a white dress, smiling like she won. Nolan right next to her.
Right. Their wedding was today.
Yeah. Of course it was.
I headed into the lobby, going straight for the top floor.
Before I could move, someone called out.
"Gavin, what are you doing here?"
Nolan spotted me, frowned, and walked over.
Jenny's face dropped.
"Gavin, I told you to stop bothering me. How are you this shameless?"
"This place isn't yours. I need your permission to show up?"
Nolan let out a dry laugh. "Still not over her, huh? Came to mess up our wedding? You even know what it costs to book this place? Your monthly pay even cover the venue, or are you still that broke?"
Jenny hooked his arm, staring at me like I was nothing. "I'm never marrying you, so get over it. Look at Nolan, then look at yourself. You really think you're on my level?"
People nearby started whispering.
"So that's the ex? All dressed up—trying to crash the wedding?"
"They broke up and he still won't move on. Yikes."
"He was never her level anyway. Of course she dumped him."
Jenny soaked it in, practically glowing. "See? This is my world. Leave before you embarrass yourself more. We haven't been on the same level for a long time."
I looked at their smug faces, about to speak—
A middle-aged guy in a suit rushed in, out of breath.
"Mr. Cruz, the South Borevia redevelopment just got suspended by the new CEO!"
Nolan's smile froze. "Say that again?"
The guy was sweating, voice shaking. "It... it's real. HQ just sent notice. That whole district's under review—"
Then he noticed me.
He straightened fast, all stiff and respectful.
"Good afternoon, Mr. Granville. It's an honor to see you. How can I assist you today?"
