Chapter 3

I knew that after I went missing, my birth mother had spent years searching for me. Her endless guilt and despair eventually led her to take her own life.

After I'd become famous and appeared regularly on screen, Grandma had immediately recognized me as her long-lost granddaughter. She had come to me multiple times, desperately begging me to take a DNA test, longing for me to return to her side.

The ones waiting for my return had never been the high-and-mighty Mr. Holmes Senior, and certainly not the arrogant Jason.

Nancy's eyes widened in shock as she shouted, "So what if Grandma recognized you? This is the Holmes family! How does her opinion matter?"

She pointed at me, her tone bitter and harsh. "Jason is the only future heir Dad has chosen for the Holmes family! If he says you can't enter, you won't set foot in this house!"

I inwardly scoffed at how absurd Nancy was. Even after staying with the Holmes family for so long, she didn't even know who truly held power in the family.

I gave her a cold look as I pulled up a chair and sat down with deliberate casualness. "Fine, then we'll wait for Mr. Holmes Senior to return."

As I watched the livestream's viewer count skyrocket, I smiled. If these two didn't want to learn their place, this situation needed to escalate.

While I was casually scrolling through the comments, a thunderous voice suddenly boomed. "What's going on here? Since when is the Holmes residence a place for someone to spurt nonsense?"

I looked up to see Peter Holmes, whose eyes were blazing with anger. I slowly stood up, giving him a mocking look.

"No one's spouting nonsense. After all, it's true that some people have made themselves at home where they don't belong."

Peter surveyed the cameras surrounding us, his face turning ashen as he turned to Niles Eldridge, the senior butler, and barked, "Niles, get these reporters out of here!"

The reporters immediately protested. "Why should we leave? We're just here for Rissa!"

"Mr. Holmes Senior, you're ridiculous for not letting your own daughter in. Where's your sense of decency?"

Peter's temples throbbed, and he shouted, "My own daughter? Who knows if she's just after the Holmes family's fortune! Don't think starring in a few X-rated movies means you can suddenly become somebody!

"We were willing to acknowledge her as our daughter, but not only is she ungrateful, she's trying to ruin the Holmes family's century-old reputation!"

I stared at Peter, finding the situation incredibly ironic. This man, who had even changed his last name to climb the social ladder, had the audacity to lecture me.

Mistaking my silence for fear, Jason arrogantly ordered his security team. "Get them all out! And for the next few days, if you see any news that hurts the Holmes family's reputation, shut it down!"

The reporters exchanged glances and reluctantly lowered their cameras, seemingly forgetting this was still being livestreamed.

Nancy pointed at me with a sneer. "Looks like this reunion isn't happening today. When the big star decides to follow our traditions, then we can talk."

Peter looked at me with disgust and spat, "Just because we're blood-related doesn't give you the right to throw your weight around here! The Holmes family doesn't welcome women who sell their bodies! Get out before you dirty our grounds!"

Just then, a powerful voice thundered from outside. "Don't you even think about laying a finger on my precious granddaughter!"

An elderly woman with white hair stormed in, leaning on her cane. She was the true power behind the Holmes family—my grandmother, Madam Holmes.
