Chapter 2

Megan lay in my dad’s arms, putting on a show, acting all pitiful and helpless.

I watched them walk away, a cold smile on my face. Clearly, this wasn’t enough. I needed to push things further.

I tossed the wedding dress into the fire, watching it burn down to nothing but ashes.

I had avoided the punishment from last time, but I wasn’t satisfied yet.

For days, Megan sported an ugly bump on her forehead that refused to go away no matter how many creams she used. She looked ridiculous and pathetic, and I couldn’t help but turn away in disgust.

As the wedding day approached, her temper flared. Even though she was pushing forty, she had always been obsessed with looking young, and now she couldn’t stand the thought of being seen as unattractive.

Naturally, she decided to take it out on me.

Halfway through breakfast, the staff took away my plate. Megan sat across from me, pretending to be concerned. “Lexie, you really shouldn’t eat so much. You’re starting to get chubby.”

Brandon jumped in, “Yeah, you’re as fat as a pig. Ugly and worthless!”

I glanced down at my flat stomach, then looked at Brandon’s bulky frame.

Taking a sip of my coffee, I stared right at him. “Are you describing yourself? You’re the one who looks like a fat pig.”

Megan’s eyes widened, clearly not expecting me, the usual pushover, to bite back.

She grabbed her glass of milk, ready to throw it in my face. Brandon lunged at me too, trying to grab my hair.

I managed to dodge, but a few drops of milk still splashed onto my face.

Megan looked triumphant, shouting, “Lexie, I haven’t even started with you for last time! You’re doing this on purpose, aren’t you? Let me teach you a lesson on behalf of your cheap, dead mother!”

I glanced towards the doorway, then started crying out, “Dad, I’m your own daughter! Megan isn’t even officially part of the family yet, and she’s already treating me like this. What will people think?”

My dad walked in right then, putting on an act as if he was scolding Megan.

“Megan, stop picking on Lexie. I’ll take you to see a doctor later. Just calm down.”

He spoke to her softly, but his expression showed his irritation.

However, the fact that he was even trying to soothe her was more than he had ever done for my mom.

When my mom was bedridden, desperately calling my dad and begging him to come see her one last time, what was he doing?

He ignored her calls without a second thought and spent his nights with Megan instead.

My mom never heard his voice before she passed away.

My mom who stood by him through everything, died alone on a stormy night.

Her funeral was thrown together in a hurry, and he didn’t even bother to place a single flower on her grave.

Megan leaned against my dad, her eyes taunting me with a smug smile. “Thanks, sweetheart.”

They left soon after, and Brandon spat at me as he walked by.

“Who do you think you are to go up against us? No matter what tricks you try, you’ll never beat us.”

He strutted off and made sure to tell the staff not to give me any food.

……

I watched as the staff deliberately cleared away all the food, and I let out a cold laugh.

These people had been with our family for over a decade. But in my past life, when I was being tormented, they didn’t just stand by and do nothing. They even took out their frustrations on me.

Seeing them tiptoeing around now, I realized nothing had changed.

I kicked the table over. “If you can’t figure out who you’re really working for, you don’t belong in this house.”

Chapter 3

The staff stared at me in shock, frantically trying to clean up the mess.

While they were distracted, I found Megan’s phone.

In my previous life, even after marrying into our family, Megan kept up her affair with her ex-husband. She was constantly sending him money and sneaking him into our house whenever my dad was away.

I accidentally walked in on them once, and that was when I realized Megan and her ex-husband weren’t done with each other.

Their plan was to get rid of me first, then drain my dad’s bank accounts, and take over our home. They were like sneaky rats, always scheming to steal from the very people who took them in.

It was downright pathetic.

I scrolled through Megan’s phone, staring at the incriminating texts, explicit photos of her and her lover, and screenshots of the money transfers she had made to him.

I didn’t just take pictures of everything. I transferred all the data to my own phone.

After I finished, I turned off her phone and walked out of the room.

The staff had finished cleaning up by then and were standing around awkwardly, watching me with nervous eyes.

I walked past them, and they shrank back, no longer as arrogant and smug as before.

I nodded to myself.

Good. It seemed like the first lesson had sunk in.

A little while later, Megan and the others returned.

She was hanging onto my dad’s arm. “Honey, that cosmetic treatment worked wonders. I feel great! I’m thinking of shopping for some new clothes tomorrow. You know how much you love those little—”

My dad gave her a knowing smile and squeezed her hand. “Sure, I’ll send a few bodyguards with you to keep you safe.”

Megan hesitated. “Oh, that’s not necessary. Having bodyguards would just draw too much attention. Plus, I’m going shopping with my girlfriends. You really want a bunch of guys following me around while I’m buying… you know… intimate things?”

She leaned in closer, pouting playfully.

My dad finally relented, though he still made a big show of reminding her to be careful.

But I knew better. She wasn’t going shopping. She was going to meet her lover.

The next day, Megan left in a hurry, and I grabbed a cab to follow her.

Her first stop was a lingerie store, where she picked out a few revealing outfits, and then she headed to an old apartment complex.

I glanced at the name on the building and recognized it immediately. It was Megan’s old place.

I put on a mask and followed her up the stairs.

There was no elevator, and by the time I reached the fourth floor, I was out of breath.

Megan ran into a man’s arms, exclaiming, “Hubby, I’ve missed you so much!”

I knew exactly who he was. Paul Spencer, Megan’s ex-husband and secret lover. In my previous life, he and Brandon, along with some thugs, had tormented me.

I remembered lying in a dark alley, beaten and humiliated, while Paul recorded the whole thing and posted it online, ruining my life.

The memory of that moment flooded me with rage. I gripped my phone so tightly that my knuckles turned white as I struggled to keep my composure. I forced myself to stay calm and hit the record button.

A moment later, they were standing outside the apartment door, making out shamelessly, their hands all over each other.

Paul’s voice was low and teasing as he tugged on one of the outfits Megan had just bought. “Babe, how about you wear this one tonight? It’ll be fun.”

Megan giggled, melting into his arms. “You naughty boy, I bought it just for you.”

With that, they rushed inside the apartment, and it was obvious what was about to happen.

I stopped recording, feeling quite pleased with today’s little adventure.

Megan, the show you put on today would make the perfect opening scene for your wedding video.

Chapter 4

It must have been a real thrill for them.

The moment I stepped into the house, a bucket of ice-cold water came crashing down on me, soaking me from head to toe.

……

I looked up and saw the bucket hanging above the doorframe.

“Hahaha, Lexie, you look ridiculous!” Brandon pointed at me, laughing so hard his belly jiggled.

The staff nearby snickered, casting sneaky glances my way.

It was obvious they had tipped him off, because in my previous life, Brandon had never pulled this kind of prank on me.

He was sixteen, but still acting like a little kid.

I calmly wiped the water from my face, then charged forward. I grabbed Brandon by the hair and slammed him to the ground.

“You think you can mess with me in my own house? Today, I’ll show you who’s really in charge here!”

All the anger I had bottled up over two lifetimes erupted as I punched his chubby face. He tried to fight back, but I kicked him in the stomach, folding him up like a shrimp. He was completely helpless.

I didn’t stop until he passed out.

The staff rushed to take him to the hospital.

I glanced at the mess of food Brandon had left on the table, then swept all the dishes to the floor, shattering them into pieces.

Perfect. A little extra work for these backstabbing staff.

“You have ten minutes to clean this up, or you’re all fired!” I said coldly before walking away.

When Megan came back and found her precious son in the hospital, she looked like she wanted to tear me apart.

But, desperate to keep up her sweet, caring image in front of my dad, she held back and just glared at me with pure hatred.

I noticed her damp hair and flushed cheeks and smiled knowingly.

Megan, this was just the beginning of your punishment.

The wedding day came quickly, and the house was decked out for the occasion. Megan wore the dress my dad had just bought for her.

……

It was the same designer wedding gown. With her makeup done, she looked younger and more beautiful than ever, and my dad couldn’t take his eyes off her.

“You look stunning today, Megan,” he said.

Suddenly, I remembered how, when my mom was bedridden, he refused to eat with her, claiming the sight of her made him sick. Yet, when she was healthy, he never acted like that.

My dad was always great at pretending to be loving, but in reality, he was heartless.

Megan had seated me at the worst table, surrounded by overweight, middle-aged men. It was clearly a move to humiliate me.

Meanwhile, her son, Brandon, had an entire table to himself and was shoveling food into his mouth like he didn’t have a care in the world.

The house was packed with guests, mostly my dad’s friends and family. Megan only had a few people from her side. But among them, I spotted Paul.

I couldn’t help but sneer. Megan, you had some nerve.

As I watched her laughing and chatting with everyone, I tightened my grip on my phone and smiled to myself.

This show was about to get really interesting.

……

Soon, it was time for the bride and groom to exchange rings. A slideshow of their happy photos played on the big screen.

People around kept praising their ‘faithful love,’ and I just wanted to throw up.

Just as they were about to kiss, I knew it was my moment.

“Wait!”

The room fell silent, and Megan shot me a venomous look, her eyes daring me to say another word.
