1: A Gift

ADRIANA

“Happy birthday,” I whisper to myself as the clock ticks midnight.

I am eighteen!

I waited for the excitement to settle in, a new feeling of joy or anything. Nothing came, I felt the same way I did, slightly worse from when my brother, Damien kicked me in the ribs earlier, but the same nevertheless.

I sighed heavily, not that I expected anything different. No candles or surprise parties for me finally turning eighteen. The age every she-wolf looked forward too.

Not that the whole pack sees me as one, I don’t blame them since it’s not like I have a wolf.

My not having a wolf isn’t the only reason they hate me, being the bastard child of the alpha definitely didn’t make you likable. I was looked at as a disease in the pack, and I wished it was the type that made them avoid me. They like to torture me instead.

“Adriana, where the fuck are you?” my half-brother and also the future alpha bellows from the stairs.

Ignoring the pain in my upper half, I force myself up and as fast as I can and rush out to meet him before he repeats himself. We’ve done this a million times for me to know it wouldn’t end well for me.

“Yes, alpha.” I bowed when I reached where he was standing. He was my brother but I dared not call him by his name, that offense was punishable.

“Get me a glass of water from the kitchen.” He snarled at me in disgust. I barely nod before I start running down the stairs, he didn’t like incompetence and I liked my health.

If this were different I would have told him he was closer to the kitchen than I was, and coming up to call me was unnecessary and even more work than it would have taken for him to get his own water, but I wasn’t that brave so I kept shut and did as he said.

There was no one in the kitchen when I got there. Being the alpha’s daughter, although from unfortunate circumstances, you would think at least the pack members thought of that before bullying me and calling me names. Without a wolf I was as weak as an omega, and the fact that my mother was human didn’t help me at all.

I crouched and gripped the side of the counter, holding myself up. My breath was labored, my body deciding walking down the stairs was a serious work.

Unlike most packs, the alpha’s house is different and we don’t all live in the pack house. Others may decide to stay there because of the free amenities but most pack members prefer to have their own place, because of privacy.

In my eighteen years of life, and fifteen years in this pack, I could count the number of times I’ve been inside the pack house.

My father, also the alpha, said I have no business going there since I wasn’t a wolf. Technically I was, or in simpler terms, I wasn’t human.

I had abilities like your usual wolf, I’m faster than humans and have a more advanced hearing but not as good as a wolf’s, and my healing abilities were second to none in terms of being a wolf. In short, I was a disappointment to my family.

“Why are you wasting my time?!” Damien’s angry growl forced me into an upright position.

“I’m sorr—“he glared at me, cutting off my baseless apology.

“Bring three coffees up to the office,” I nodded immediately and forced my feet to move.

Damien turned and started walking out of the kitchen, I held my breath when he stopped abruptly.

“You better be fast if you know what’s good for you.” Is the last thing he said before storming out.

Taking his word for it, because I know he isn’t the type to bluff, I quickly started sorting out the coffee beans and brought out their mugs to make the coffee.

While I waited for it to brew, I let my mind wander, thinking of how my life would have been if my mother had just kept me instead of bringing me back to my father. I didn’t have memories of her, only what I was told. She brought me to the pack when I was three because she didn’t want to raise an abomination.

That was what everyone said, but in my mind, she did what she had to do. It was only to console myself from the actual truth that she didn’t want me, just like my father doesn’t want me now.

“Adriana!” the angry growl pulled me from my trance.

“I’m coming.” I replied loudly and quickly started serving their coffee. The last thing I wanted was for him to come back, or worse, his younger brother and my other brother, his name is Carlson and he is a year older than me. He is to be the beta and he is even worse than Damien.

I placed all three mugs on a tray and headed for the alpha’s home office. It was on the ground floor and not very far from the kitchen.

I was almost by the door when my ears picked up on something that made me stop in my steps.

“The Lycan king is a threat to the pack,” I overheard Carlson saying. I stopped dead in my tracks. “Knowing it would be stupid of me to walk in on their conversation. I’ve done that before and I had to wash everyone’s training clothes for a month.

They have a pack Laundromat so I didn’t have to go to the pack house. I took that as a blessing knowing I would have gotten beat up and still have to do the chores.

“It would be best to keep him off our radar,” Damien said thoughtfully.

“We can’t deal with him and the rogues at once.” This was Carlson.

“We just have to give him something to back off.” Damien replied.

Standing here wasn’t any better than going in, though I knew they couldn’t smell me. Very few people could smell me when I’m close, especially if I’m trying to hide. I didn’t know the reason but I liked it. In situations like this, I know I am safe until they open the door.

“What do you suggest? Because he is rich so I don’t think he will want money.” Carlson muttered sarcastically at his brother.

They hated each other and were always fighting, the only thing they have in common is their parents and their hate for me.

“No, even if he wants money we don’t have much to give him.” my eyes narrowed as the alpha replied. Whatever that meant, I knew the pack was doing good or at least it seemed that way. It sounded like they were obviously keeping something from everyone.

“The girl.” Damien said, I could picture the evil smirk on his face.

My heart thundered in my chest, making the tray rattle in my hands. I forced myself to stay still and moved back to stand in a more hidden part of the hallway in case they opened the door.

There was only one person he referred to as the girl, and that was me.

“She is worthless.” Our father growls. My heart breaks at his comment.

After all these years, I still wasn’t used to his hate for me. many times I imagined him realizing I was his daughter and him coming to his senses and loving me, it hasn’t happened up till now and I doubt it would when he was still acting like this.

He has said it multiple times, I’m just the one refusing to accept me. He believes I’m a curse and that I killed his mate.

She had died of a heart attack when my mum brought me to the pack. She couldn’t believe his infidelity and that made her heart stop. It wasn’t abnormal for wolves to die of heartbreak when their mates cheat on them.

I got blamed for that and that added to his hate for me.

“But he doesn’t know that.” Damien chuckled darkly. They didn’t say anything for a few seconds.

Tears were brimming my eyes at this point but I refused to let them fall.

“You can present her to him as a gift, no one outside of this pack knows of her disability.” There were murmurs of agreement. My heart breaks with each word that he utters.

“He is said to not have a mate, so it should be easy to convince him. She has a pretty face, at least she isn’t completely useless.” I heard a scoff from Damien as she said that.

The so-called pretty face is why I stay away from the people on the pack, especially the women. They feel intimidated by me and call me a witch because of my face. I looked nothing like my father, so I guess I got my looks from my mum. My straight blonde hair that is almost to my waist and crystal blue eyes that look almost transparent.

“He can keep her as his slave or whatever. He has a reputation with women.” There was a brief moment of silence before he continued.

“As Long as he is out of our hair.” Damien finished and the alpha laughed. A sound that has never been directed at me unless it held scorn.

“And she will be out of our hair too. It will be like killing two birds with one stone.” Carlson laughed too.

“He would help with the rogues situation, he has powerful warriors.” They all hummed in agreement at our father’s suggestion. I didn’t want to listen more.

I turn on my heels and start running out of the house, letting the tears finally fall. I knew they heard the tray fall and I would pay for it when I came back, but I didn’t care. I just wanted to get away.

They wanted to give me out to the Lycan. The man that is known to be a cold blooded killer, and a playboy. He didn’t have a mate and he has probably slept with half the she-wolves. That is not adding human women to the equation.

I would rather die than be forced to live the rest of my life miserable as his slave.

They’ve wanted me dead for a long time, I’ll make their dreams come true faster than they expected.

2: The Harem

ALPHA XANDER'S POV

“Yeah, don’t stop.” I growled, my body tensing in a puddle of intense pleasure.

I looked down, admiring the way the two women sucked my cock and balls. I reached down for one of them and grabbed her jet-black hair before thrusting into her warm mouth, faster, going deeper every time I pushed into her warm mouth. Her name was Sarah or Sandra, I can’t remember but she is cute. The other is a petite blonde, I didn't know her name either but she knew how to love a dick.

The room was filled with lust-filled moans and sighs of many women, some pleasuring themselves in every way possible while the rest waited for their turn to have a taste of my cock. She continued to let me stretch deeper until I could feel the walls of her neck. There was nothing more pleasurable than this, and the drool that was dribbling from the corner of her lips.

My orgasm was on the way but I was planning on finishing deep inside her tight little ass as a reward before fucking her pussy.

“Am I doing it right?” She asked, looking up at me with hooded eyes before going back to sucking me slowly and passionately as if her life depended on it.

“Of course you are.” I complimented, a smile gracing her beautiful features before she continued to suck. There was nothing more pleasurable than being surrounded by a ton of horny women, each wanting to satisfy you in their way.

“Where the fuck are you Xander?” Donovan, my Beta and best friend, yells at me through the mind link.

Ignoring Donovan’s angry yell, I shut my eyes and thrust faster into the girl’s mouth. My orgasm was very close. Anytime Donovan sounded like this, it was always because of some meeting with those old degenerates. In other words, werewolves and their council of elders.

“I’m with my Harem, wanna join?” I replied, turning the bitch around before parting her thighs to reveal her dampened pussy folds and her tight asshole. The sweet smell of her arousal made me hornier than ever.

She was already dripping so I didn't have to worry about lubrication. I sank my member inside her, a moan ripping from my throat. Fuck, she was so tight. She cried out, her legs trembling, but her cries slowly eased into a pleasure-filled moan. The pleasure was indescribable, simply mind-blowing. A groan escaped me as I started to pound into her, the walls of her incredibly tight hole clenching around my cock.

“Fuck yeah!” she moaned, enjoying it.

“You need to come down now, the council is already waiting. Alpha Jameson Pierce is here already. You can’t keep them waiting for too long.” He snarled at me angrily. He is barely through when I begin to fill the brunette with my load. She began to arch her hips to the rhythm of my thrust until her walls had sucked me dry and her pussy was dripping with my cum.

“Alpha Jameson Pierce?” I asked before shooing the women away. They picked up their clothes and began to leave the room in a single file, their asses producing the kind of soft jiggle that I loved. “What is Pierce doing here?” I asked him.

There was a rumor about him having one of the most beautiful women the earth has seen as a daughter, so his name piqued my interest instantly the moment it came up.

“Just come down, you can go back to your whores later.”

“Donovan!” I snapped, my jaws clenching in anger. Someone deliberately calling my harem whores was something that drove me to the edge most of the time. I had the right to call them that, not him or anyone else.

They say that being a very powerful and ruthless Alpha has its perks but sometimes, the bad side of it seems to overshadow its benefits. The fact that I owned the largest Pack around and had the finest warriors around made every Alpha want to make allies with me. It is why they refer to me as the Lycan king.

My family was one of the oldest and most powerful lycan purebloods in the world, and since we were the only surviving lycans with a full pack, I was named king.

None of them knew what it took me to get where I was. Having lived for more than three centuries, Donovan and I were able to actualise our dream of owning a vast and powerful Pack.

I usually got a lot of invites like that from werewolf Packs but I rarely accepted. Lycans were and werewolves had their differences, mostly because the latter didn't know their place. But we were at the top of the food chain and they are just an impure breed. A waste of space on earth if you ask me.

Lycans being stronger, as expected, makes some Packs ask me for help when they couldn’t handle situations by themselves.

My thoughts drifted off to why Alpha Jameson would come to my Pack as I jumped into the shower. I imagined what his daughter would look like, especially with her lips wrapped around my cock. My cock twitched at the thought.

I had a reputation of owning the most beautiful women around. I couldn't deny it and if she was as pretty as the rumors said, then i’ve already claimed her mine. It’s just about time before I actualize that.

Having never met him before, I was guessing the surprise visit was because he needed help with something that troubled him so much, rogues probably. Alphas who came to ask for my help rarely begged for anything except warriors, it was nothing to me. My warriors craved the violence and the little challenge, but as respect demands, they had to give something in return. I mostly didn't need it but I wouldn't just help the mutts for nothing. The reward is all the more appreciated when they give me a woman to add to my harem.

I slip on a black Armani suit, a black dress shirt inside and a couple of accessories. Once I am out of the shower, I brush my hair as best as I can, pushing the raven strands back so they weren't falling on my face. I needed a cut.

As soon as I was done, I got out of my chambers, making my way towards the Packhouse, where my main office was.

“Where are you?” I asked Donovan through the mind link.

“Third conference room, fourteenth floor. No guards are present just as the Alpha requested, that’s why I’m guessing it’s very important.”

“Right. On my way” I nodded, checking the time on my wrist watch before entering the elevator.

As soon as I reached the door to the arched hallway that led to the conference room. I swiped my card, acknowledging the guards who were stationed at their posts.

Walking down to the end of the hallway. I could see my Beta pacing the room like a caged beast. He was very pissed. Showing my iris to the biometric lock, the glass door opened, granting me access. The door beeps as soon as it closes again. Donovan stopped his pacing and turned to look at me, a frustrated look on his face as he glared at me.

I don’t stay to examine his pissy mood as I head toward the main office. Alpha Jameson and a younger man who I assumed was his son are in the middle of a heated conversation but they stop and stand up the moment they see me. Their backs straightened as they both turn to face me.

“Welcome to the Midnight Pack, Alpha Jameson.” I shook his hand firmly and that of the other boy beside him. “Thank you, Alpha Xander.” He replied. The boy was younger and had a striking resemblance with Jameson. That confirmed my earlier thought.

Donovan took out the premium scotch whisky from the cabinet and poured every man a glass.

Taking a sip, I sat back on my chair before asking him. “What can I do for you, Alpha Jameson?” I go straight to the point.

“I’m sorry for not booking an appointment early but it is a matter of urgency,” I nod for him to continue. “My Pack has been besieged by rogues, they won’t let us be. We have done our best to fight them off but they keep coming in their numbers. Many of my warriors are wounded and the whole pack-”

“I am guessing you want us to be allies.” I cut him off rudely, bored of his pity-provoking story. Having lived for over three centuries, I could predict what anyone would say, especially in this scenario. I’ve dealt with enough of these mutts to reach a conclusion from their first sentence.

“Yes, Alpha Xander. That is what I want. If I could make use of some of your warriors, perhaps we will exterminate them once and for all.”

“Perhaps?” I chuckled, a low growl erupting from my throat as I clenched my jaws at his words. “Do you doubt the ability of my warriors?” he shook his head immediately, something like fear flashing in his lids. No one liked getting me angry.

“Of course not, Alpha Xander, I thought you’d rather see it as a compliment.” He placed his glass of whisky back on the desk like it was what made him utter those words

“How is that a compliment?” I turn my gaze sharply towards him but he cowers immediately.

“I don’t know what you are planning but just don’t send the man away before listening. Jameson is easy and we can’t afford to let this one slip through. Give him what he wants, and he’ll worship you.” Donovan said through the mind link.

“Shut up!” I replied, still gazing steadily at Alpha and his son. The silence that followed was awkward and loud. In the end, I broke the silence.

“Your request is granted, you will discuss it with Donovanand tell him the number of men you want. Be mindful of your words next time, Old man. I might not be as calm as I am now.” I said.

“Thank you so much, Alpha Xander. I appreciat-”

“Don’t thank me yet, Jameson.” I used his first name, showing faux familiarity but I didn't add anything. He should know what I expect of him. He is smart enough to catch up in time.

“We already came up with a proposition, Alpha Xander.” He replied, a slight smirk lifting his lip. “To create a long-lasting bond between my Pack and yours, I have decided to offer my daughter an appreciation for your kindness. Please consider my request.”

“Which of your daughters?” I asked him, stroking my jaw thoughtfully.

“I only have one daughter, Alpha Xander. And I believe you must have heard of her, the fairest maiden you will ever see. I can order my men to bring her here right away to confirm what I just said.” he boasted, pride dripping from his words.

I caught a glimpse of Donovan eyeing me, the look on his face suggesting that he was right about telling me Jameson would do anything if I granted his request. A man willing to give his daughter to me, would do anything.

“That won’t be necessary.” I said and he nodded eagerly.

“So, we have a deal? She would make a fine bride for you, a man as powerful as you should have nothing but the absolute best.” he said, stretching his hand towards me.

“Yes, we do,” I said, taking his hands and that of his son before they stood up and left. Donovan was gone with them so they could discuss the number of men they would be needing.

It was a lot easier than I thought. Most alphas offered someone else not their daughters. Those are given away in marriage to other alphas, not lycans. And it was mostly business.

I guess marrying the girl wouldn't be that bad. The packs have been worried about our standing and my lack of having a mate and a successor. For three centuries I have not minded, it was time to bring an end to it.

With the best of them that there is, that was the best way to go out.

3: Escape Plan

ADRIANA’S POV

I stand at the edge of the grand ballroom, my eyes scanning the crowd of lycans and werewolves milling about. I had always been uncomfortable at these kinds of parties, especially ones thrown by my father, but tonight was different. I knew that the main event was not the celebration of my upcoming marriage, but rather the presentation of myself to the Lycan King as his bride.

It was usually a thing of joy for the alpha’s daughter to be given away, no less to a renowned king. I was nothing like those smiley brides. Dread pooled in the pit of my stomach at the prospect of being given away to the lycan king. They called it a wedding but I knew better than. My father gave me away like property, to a terrible man no less.

I wasn't about to get married to an amazing man. I have heard rumors about the king's appetite for women, about the harem of concubines he kept in his palace. Happiness was nowhere in sight for me, and I made the decision to run away as soon as the opportunity presented itself.

I glanced around surreptitiously, trying to gauge when would be the best time to make my escape. I had already packed a small bag with the little bit of money I had managed to save over the years, enough to get me to the next town where I could hopefully find my way to a human community. I have never fit in with the wolves, maybe I would have better luck there.

No one minded me as I kept to myself. They may be trying to put on a show for the lycan king and his people, making it seem like I was the alpha’s most prized possession. His only daughter, when in reality, they all hated me and are probably celebrating my doom. That is what this marriage would be like.

They still kept to themselves too, no one trying to be overly nice to me, because they simply couldn't hide their disdain for me.

The music had reached a crescendo and the crowd was focused on the dance floor. I took a deep breath and started to edge my way towards the door, trying to blend in with the crowd as much as possible.

I had almost made it to the exit when a hand closed around my arm, pulling me back roughly. I turned to see my father standing there, a look of disappointment on his face.

"Where do you think you're going?" he spat, his voice stern.

"I-I just needed some air," I stammered, trying to pull away from his grip.

"You're not going anywhere," my father said, his tone final. His grip tightened like I would be dumb enough to try and free myself. “You had better get rid of any notions of you walking out of this, do you understand?” he whispered. It was a room full of beings with supernatural hearing, he knew better than to raise his voice. I nodded sharply, not wanting to annoy him.

My heart sank. I had known it would be difficult to escape, but I had hoped that I might be able to slip away unnoticed. Now it seems that my father has his eyes on me since he thinks I would plan to run.

“Don’t try anything stupid, Adriana or so help me–”his grip was punishing.

Tears welled up in my eyes as my father dragged me back towards the more crowded part of the ballroom, where everyone's eyes were on me. I wouldn't even make it to three steps before getting caught.

The music came to a sudden stop and all eyes turned towards us when we reached the edge of the dance floor and toward the makeshift stage. That was where I caught sight of the lycan king. Oh no.

My worst fears became a reality when my father led me directly to where the Lycan King stood with a group of his advisors. My blood turned cold with every step we took closer to them.

The king was a tall, muscular man with piercing eyes and a cruel smile that sent shivers down my spine. Lycans were ruthless and cruel, and Alpha Xander was no different. He had no love or compassion for anyone, and he ruled with an iron fist. People didn’t like talking about him, as they made bringing him up be almost like blasphemy.

"Ah, there you are," the deep, booming voice belonged to the king, it made something in me tremble. His aura was commanding, intimidating, frightening, all of the above and some more than I haven't thought of yet.

My father pushed me forward slightly, I managed not to trip and when I looked up, the Lycan King stood before me, a smug smile on his face. "I've been looking forward to meeting you, my dear." he said, his tone slightly condescending as he said the words. "I have heard much about your beauty. I am pleased to finally see it for myself."

My father beamed with pride at the compliment, but I felt nothing but disgust. I knew what the Lycan King wanted from me, and it wasn't just my beauty. It was rumored that he had a harem of women at his disposal, whom he used for his own twisted pleasure. It was something he wasn't afraid to show.

My stomach twisted at the thought of being part of those unfortunate women. Having to live as nothing more than a toy for him to play with. He was smiling but there was an underlying darkness around him.

"I-I can't do this," I whispered through the mindlink, turning to my father with pleading eyes.

"You can and you will, Adriana. Stop being a brat." The words were a cold warning. Tears stung my eyes but I managed to blink them away. I didn't know what he would do to me if I dared to let them fall.

"Father please, he is known to be a ruthless man. He is evil." I persisted, trying to use all the cards I had. My father may not love me or even see me as his daughter, but he might change his mind if he sees how terrible Alpha Xander is.

"This is your one chance to prove yourself to me as my daughter,” my heart sank further as he said that. He caught my eyes from where he stood. “This is a political alliance, and it will benefit our pack greatly. You should be honored that the king has chosen you as his bride." his voice softened. I didn't let my mind register. This is the first time he is speaking to me with a tone other than irritation or annoyance. A part of me didn't want to make him angry but I couldn't stand the thought of being with the lycan king.

He was a lycan and we’re werewolves, those two species are natural enemies. They hated each other even more than werewolves and vampires.

"I understand the importance of political alliances, but I cannot marry someone who isnt my mate, father.”

"You do not even have a wolf, finding your mate is not going to be possible,” he didn't let me speak before shaking his head outwardly and replying, still through the link. “And it is your duty to put the needs of the pack before your own. The pack needs this alliance, and you will marry the king." His tone was final, but I still refused to give up. This is the first time he is even talking to me and listening to what I have to say.

"I understand my duties as an Alpha's daughter, but please do not force me to marry someone who is not my mate." I begged, nearly crying. There was no bit of remorse on his face as he gave me a burning look.

"This matter is not up for debate. You will marry the king, and that is final." he turned away, the same time alpha Xander placed his hand on my shoulder. I had to look up at him because he was so much taller than me.

There was something in his eyes that didn't sit well with me and it only made me want to get out of there faster.

“You did well, Jameson. Or I should call you father in law, now.” The small group burst into laughter and my father joined in. He shot a final look, telling me to behave before shooing me off and saying they needed to talk business. I was more than grateful to leave.

I sat nervously at the party, trying my best to blend into the background and avoid the notice of my father. I had always known that my fate was not my own, and that I would one day be married off to a wealthy or powerful man as a way for my family to advance their own standing. But I never could have imagined that my father would go so far as to sell me to the Lycan King, a notorious and feared figure rumored to be as cruel as he was wealthy.

Much later into the party, I finally saw my opportunity. The party has been going on for hours. The ones that weren’t on the dance floor or filling their stomachs were wasted, reclining anywhere they could rest their backs. I made my way out of the hall as quietly as possible, my heart pounding in my chest.

I quickly changed out of my elaborate party dress and into a simple, plain outfit that would help me run through the woods easily, after I got back to my father’s. Thank God they had moved to his office with Alpha Xadner and the other notable figures. I gathered up my supplies – a few changes of clothes, some food, and a small amount of money – and stuffed them into a backpack.

Then, with a deep breath, I opened the door to my room and stepped out into the bustling hallways of the castle. I kept my head down and my pace steady as I made my way through the maze of corridors, trying to stay as inconspicuous as possible. It was empty, but it didn't hurt to be extra careful.

I finally walked out, grateful the pack house wasn't very close to the mansion. If no one was out, it wouldn't be very easy to spot me. I hesitated for a moment, looking out at the dark forest beyond. I have never been outside of the pack before, I rarely even left the house.

I’ve come too far to back out now. I told myself and without a second thought, trudged into the forest. It thankfully extended from the trees surrounding the house. I’ve overheard Carlson tell his friends how to sneak from there multiple times.

When I was far enough and far from the house and the rest of the pack, I began to run. I had no idea where I was going with nothing to guide me through the dark but the moon. My sight wasn't that good but it didn't make me stop. I tripped over branches and fell but I picked myself up each time, pushing myself beyond my limits.

Since I’d been old enough to understand pack politics, with the little exposure I got, I’d known it would be hard for my father to let me find my mate and when I didn’t get my wolf at sixteen, the dream dulled until it wasn’t there anymore. It became clearer every day that went by that my father would find a man for me, to be a slave to or a partner, he wouldn't have minded. My father wouldn’t bother to find me a worthy man.

My escape plan wasn’t the best and the small bag held the barest minimum. I couldn’t sleep in the woods so I hoped to find someplace safe to hide till I could go into the human town.

I ran for what felt like hours, my feet pounding against the ground as I pushed myself to the limit. I was exhausted and out of breath, but I didn't stop. I couldn't stop.

I reminded myself they would have realized I wasn’t there any minute and the pack warriors would be sent out to look for me.

I pushed myself further, but my body couldn't handle all of this at once. I wasn't in the best of forms, and I didn’t have the resilience of a wolf.

Despite my best efforts, I began to feel dizzy and weak. I stumbled, my legs giving out beneath me, and collapsed to the ground. Darkness worked in my vision and as much as I tried to blink it away, it felt like I wasn’t doing anything. My head felt heavy and the ground seemed to sway beneath me.

I lay there, struggling to stay conscious. I blinked a few times and forced my eyes to stay open. The moon seemed hazy but I could see it, shining brightly in the sky. I wish it could help me.

I heard something from behind me and I tried to force myself to turn, my limbs refused to heed to my command, everything went black after that.

4: Aiden

ADRIANA’S POV

A small sound escaped from my lips, and I blinked a few times, trying to wake myself up. I felt sore everywhere, my feet were burning, my thighs were on fire too. What happened?

I got up with a start, my heart beating wildly in my chest. I looked around, trying to make sense of where I was. I couldn't remember coming here. My memories slowly started coming back as I looked around the unfamiliar place. It was a room, small from the looks of it, there were strange decorations on the wall, and it had a musty smell. Like it wasnt frequented.

My head hurts as multiple thoughts come to me, all at once.

Ball, my father, dark aura and a large man with a black stare…The lycan king!

I’d been running and I remember falling. What the hell happened? How did I end up here? Could it be that my father or alpha Xander found me? Please let it be a no. I think I would take anyone but them right now.

I was terrified, wondering if Alpha Xander's guards had caught me and brought me to his pack. I looked around the room, taking in the oddities of the space. The walls were a sickly green color, and there were strange symbols etched into the stone. A single window high up on the wall let in a small amount of light, but it was dim and barely illuminated the room. There was a door on the far side of the room, but it was closed and that renewed my fear.

I moved back on what I assumed was a makeshift mattress, it seemed to be made of a few leaves or something I didn't know. I placed my hand on my chest, trying to steady my breathing.

I swung my legs off the bed and stood up, everything in me telling me to get the hell out of there. I swayed on my feet, my vision going blank for a few moments. I was still dizzy, good to note.

I made my way over to the door, my heart pounding in my chest. I ignored the pain shooting through every crevice of my body, especially my legs. When I reached the locked door, I lifted my hands up, ready to rap my knuckles on it. I hesitated for a moment, wondering if I should just stay put and wait for someone to come to me. But I couldn't stand the thought of being there for a moment longer.

The fact that I was detained or anything told me it couldn't be my father’s people or Xander’s that found me. So I had to find a way out and get as far away from here as possible. They would so easily catch up with me and I can't have that.

I took a deep breath and reached for the doorknob, deciding to try that first before alerting whoever it was that brought me here of my consciousness. It turned easily in my hand, and I slowly pushed the door open, peering out into the hallway beyond. It was empty and quiet, with doors lining either side. I stepped out, my bare feet making no noise on the cold stone floor.

I started down the hallway, my senses on high alert as I searched for a way out. As I walked, I couldn't shake the feeling that I was being watched. It was as if the very walls were watching my every move

Just as I was about to make my way over to the door, I began to hear footsteps coming from a hallway down the corridor. It was followed by a heated discussion between two people. I ran back into the room and lay on the bed, my heart pounding and my eyes wide awake with fear.

The loud footsteps continued to approach until they stopped in front of the door. The person hesitated before the door creaked open and a man walked in. His eyes lit upon seeing I was awake.

“Hey,” he greeted, keeping his voice soft. I curled into myself, trying to appear as small as possible. “Are you ok?” He asked, trying to come close but I quickly sat up and backed away, glaring at him. He smelled like a lycan and that wasn’t good. It couldn’t be!

“Who are you? Where am I?” I asked, moving back until my back could touch the wall. My heart continued to race in its frantic rhythm.

“My name is Aiden. I'm a pack warrior. I found you in the woods, where you had fainted. I brought you here to my house and had you treated. How are you feeling, are you-”I cut off his long speech.

“How...how did you find me? And why did you bring me here?” My words are ridden with stutters.

“I was patrolling the woods when I came across you. You were hurt and I thought you needed help,” he replied easily. I nodded, but I didn't fully believe him.

“Where exactly am I? Did he send you to catch me? Please let me go!” I begged, fidgeting as I looked around the room. I spotted my bag lying on one side of the room, beside a stove. I looked back at him before making a move to run but he quickly grabbed me and took me back on the bed.

“Let me go!” I struggled but he keeps on holding me tight until I stop struggling.

He was very huge, standing at 6’7 or so, with a strong and muscular build that exuded confidence. He had the body of a warrior, almost like the men Xander had come with. That didn't make me feel any better. There was a very high chance he either worked for him or was somehow related to the pack. Lycans were not found littering near wolf territories. Or have I gotten far from my father’s pack? That didn't make me as happy as I thought I would be. Only made my nerves skyrocket, because now I had no idea where to go.

The large man bent towards me and I moved further back, there was no more space for me to move too but I kept pushing into the way, like it would open to accommodate my body. He didn't come any closer when he saw what I was doing, but his eyes swept down my body in violating scrutiny.

“I want you to calm down and talk to me. You’re safe here and nobody is after you, I promise.” Despite the dangerous aura he exuded, mostly familiar with warriors, his aura was different from Xander’s, more peaceful I guess.

“Who are you? Which pack do you belong to?” I asked him as my breath came out harshly. Lycans didn't have small packs because of their small numbers. They mostly just follow one leader, which means there is a very high chance he is one of Xander’s warriors.

“I told you, I'm Aiden and I don't belong to a pack as of now. I used to be a warrior but my pack was destroyed. I’ve been renting this property for a while.” He said, his soft gaze all over my face. There was something gentle in his face that urged me to believe him, but I was still cautious.

I nodded and tried to calm my breathing. I slowly let myself move from the wall, stretching my legs out. I peeked at the lone window and saw a bit of light, the sun was slowly dipping into the horizon. The sky was ablaze with fiery orange and pink hues as if the sun was trying to put on one last spectacular show before it said goodbye for the day.

I got up, keeping my eyes on Aiden, as he said his name was. I stood to my full height and headed to the position of the window. I couldn't see much from here, just a dense wall of trees, their branches twisted, stretching out in every direction. We were surrounded by a sea of brown and green. We were somewhere in the middle of the woods but I knew my Pack wasn’t far away from here. And I needed to run.

I couldn’t let my father catch me, never.

Aiden didn’t know who I was. I haven't heard of any lycan packs being destroyed so he couldn't be from here. That renewed my fear as I realized I probably wasn't that far out from my pack, which meant I needed to get away from here.

I rushed to where my backpack lay and grabbed it then I turned to the man who had been silently watching me and told him in clear terms. “Thank you for your help and I'm sorry I have nothing to repay you with but I have to leave right now.” I tried to keep the information I was giving him to a minimum. You know, in case he wasn't telling the truth.

“Why are you in a rush? Is someone after you?” he gave me a look that said to tell him the truth, it wouldn't be hard to find me out.

I breathed and shook my head. I couldn't tell him, so I decided. He may have helped me but that didn't mean I should readily trust him. “If I know, maybe I can help you.”

That made me look at him with my brows raised and he nodded. A voice in my head told me I couldn't be serious when I exhaled, and reached a conclusion almost immediately.

“The Alpha of my Pack wants to marry me to a man who isn’t my mate. A very evil man, and they must be looking for me by now. I have to get away.” I made sure he heard the urgency in my voice. It wasn't hard to get since I was actually very desperate. And it wasn't a complete lie, I only hid my real identity. What if he knew a way to contact Xander and he turns me in to save himself. I couldn't risk that.

“I understand what you're saying, but just sit down and relax. There are rogues out there that will kill you once they set their eyes on you and you’re still exhausted.” he said, taking my bag off my shoulders gently.

“No, I…I,” I swallowed, unable to form any word. I felt like I was giving in too easily.

“At least, eat something. You can leave after that.” I nodded when he said that. I guess it wouldn't hurt to stay and eat something. He was right, I should at least rest before setting out again.

I moved back and sat on the bed again, doing as he said. Seeing I was willing to comply, he nodded and walked out of the room, leaving me to myself and my thoughts.

I reflected on the last few hours, or maybe a day ago, since it’s evening again now. I had been running from a life that I knew was going to be nothing but pain, running from my family that has never treated me like their own, and now I was being offered protection by a stranger.

Beggars couldn't really be choosers and my only option right now was to trust Aiden and hope that he was telling the truth.

Aiden returned a few minutes later with a pitcher of water and a cup. He poured it in and handed it to me, I looked a little unsure and he stretched his arm further.

“You must be thirsty after all the running you obviously did, and you haven't had anything to drink.'' What he was saying made sense but I was still unsure. He sighed and set the pitcher down by my feet and the cup beside it. “I have no intention of hurting you, I promise.” His eyes were soft. I only nodded but still made no move to touch the water.

“I understand why you must be skeptical, but see,” he picked the water and drank half of it. “There is nothing wrong with it.” he spoke after. I nodded, a bit more convinced this time. He handed the cup back to me and I took it eagerly, drowning the rest of the water in it in one gulp.

“Thank you,” I muttered, my cheeks heating when I saw how he was watching me.

“You must be hungry, would you like something to eat?” My stomach growled, answering his question and he chuckled. “Okay, I'll get you something right now.” I nodded eagerly. I wasn’t hungry, I was starving. “You can rest before I have it ready,” he pointed to the bed before walking toward the door again.

I did as he instructed and laid back on the bed, but I couldn't sleep even after he left. I scanned the room, now that I was more awake, I saw that in addition to the weird writings on the wall, they were adorned with various weapons and battle gear, the smell of metal and aged blood permeated the room.

I gave up on sleep and got up, making my way over to a bench in the corner, I sat down and took a deep breath. My head was still spinning from the fainting spiel I had suffered earlier. I haven't fully regained my strength after the distance I ran, not to mention the multiple injuries I suffered. I didn't have fast healing abilities like normal wolves, so the wounds would take a while to heal which was a downside for me right now.

There was a knock on the door and Aiden walked back in, he had a tray in his hand and the scent of food made my stomach grumble in complaint.

He kept the tray in front of me but I made no move to touch it, he sighed seeing my hesitation and cut a piece of the roasted meat. He shoved it in his mouth and chewed, then he swallowed. He showed me his tongue, I didn't know when a smile made its way to my face.

“It is safe, I promise.” I took his word for it and eagerly dug in.

He provided a bottle seemingly out of nowhere and kept it beside me. I looked up at him confused, stopping my chewing. “It’s a potion,” he motioned to my legs that were matted with dried blood. I had multiple cuts there. “To help you heal. I noticed you weren't healing.”

I nodded and swallowed. “You can take it now or after you’re done eating, either is okay.”

I picked it but stopped before drowning the contents, Aiden nodded in encouragement and I closed my eyes before throwing the whole thing in my mouth. It honestly tasted like shit and I gagged which made Aiden snicker.

“It has a foul taste but you’ll feel better.” I grimaced, the after taste still in my mouth. I tore another piece of the meat and put it in my mouth, hoping it would overpower the first one.

I ate some more, loving the well cooked texture of the meat. I would honestly find anything delicious with the way I was starving.

I felt more relaxed the more I ate.

“See, it’s already working.” Aiden said with a smile and I nodded, giving him one of mine.

The effect of the potion was really good, I could feel my head clear, and my energy began to return.

"Thank you," I said looking up at Aiden who had kept himself busy with watching the engravings on the wall. "I feel much better now."

"You're welcome, Princess," he replied with a smile. I didn't say anything at the nickname, since I didn't tell him my name, I guess I couldn't complain. "Now, if you'll excuse me. I’ll allow you to rest. When you feel stronger we can talk about getting you out of here.”

I nodded, feeling too tired to open my mouth and talk. Almost immediately, the tension in my muscles melted away, and I found myself drifting off into a peaceful sleep.

I felt someone picking me up but I was already too sleepy to even understand what was happening, panic started settling in my bones but I felt too weak to do anything but let the sleep take over. My eyes closed before I could really make out what was happening.

5: Find Her By All Means

ALPHA XANDER’S POV

I left the banquet hall, the noise and laughter fading behind me as I stepped out into the cool night air. The few pack members suggested we go back after the meeting with Alpha Jameson, I regretted it instantly. I exhaled a breath of relief as I escaped the crowded room, the constant chatter and fawning of the other wolves grating on my nerves.

As I walked down the path, my thoughts turned to Adriana. I had to admit, I was taken aback by her beauty. I've heard of it but I never thought it was that accurate. People tend to overhype things, there was nothing overhyped about her. Her long golden hair that reached her waist, and crystal blue eyes captivated me from the moment I laid eyes on her. My body reacted in a way it has never done to another woman, and I’ve seen a lot of them.

She was my fated, I knew from the moment but I brushed it off. It wouldn't be wise to let anyone know just yet. That would just put a target on her back and that would be stressful for me. The wolves might get ideas into their head.

The reluctance in her eyes were clear, the way she seemed to shrink back when her father presented her to me. It was clear that she didn't like me, that she was unhappy about being forced into this marriage. I’ve heard the things that were said about me, she was right to be worried. I couldn't deny the horrendous things I've been accused of doing as most of them were true. I just didn't feel like explaining my reasoning. If they feared me for that, then all the better.

That is why I didn't blame her or push her, I suppose. I kept our physical contact to a minimum. Her wolf might have recognized me as her mate, though she is young. It might take her a while longer. I understood she had a right to be scared, to downright fight this. I was a powerful Lycan king, and she was just a young wolf with no say in her own future.

My duty to my pack and my kingdom was the main reason I agreed to this, and maybe make her join my harem. Her beauty was unmatched and that is good. I hadn’t planned for a mate and I wasn’t ready to settle for one, but I've been alive for centuries and I guess it is time I find someone to rule beside me. I just had not thought it would be a wolf. It didn’t mean I would let go of her though. She was MINE.

She may not agree with the alliance now, but she’ll be willing soon enough. My cock twitched at the thought of having her in my mine, making her mine in every way possible.

I had just reached the end of the path when I heard a commotion behind me, the sound of footsteps pounding on the grass. I turned just in time to see Alpha Jameson running towards me, his face contorted with fear, desperation reeked off him like cheap cologne.

"Alpha Xavier," he panted, his chest heaving as he came to a stop in front of me. "My daughter, she's gone missing." my head reeled as the words left his mouth, ringing multiple times in my head.

My bride, the woman that has been paraded as mine has gone missing! It was like a punch to the gut, the shock and utter disbelief coursing through my veins. My mind raced as I tried to think of what the hell must have happened.

How could this have happened, how could she have gone missing with all the security littering this place?

I turned to Alpha Jameson, walked towards him, and towered over him with a menacing look on my face. He was shaking with fear as I approached. “This was all your plan right?” My jaws tightened. “You planned all this, you planned her escape.” That seemed like the only plausible explanation for this.

“I swear I know nothing about this. She was a bit hesitant at first but that is to be expected, she recently turned eighteen and still thinks like a child, but I know she wouldn’t do that, she has never left this pack.” he kept on rambling. It took everything in me to not punch him in the face. “Maybe she has been kidnapped.” he continued his monologue, his chest heaving as he panted while I tried to rein in my anger.

I took another step closer to him, my voice was low and threatening as I spoke. "You're lying," I said. "I know you had something to do with this. You helped her escape, didn't you?" I snarled while the man shook under the weight of my gaze. If he was claiming she has never left the pack, then how the hell did she go missing.

Someone would have sighted her if she was taken, no one would go in and out of here dragging a woman without anyone being alerted. The only way my warriors would not notify me she is seen with another person is if they recognize them as members of her pack.

Jameson's eyes widened in fear as he shook his head. "No, I swear," he said, his voice shaking. "I had nothing to do with this. I don't know where she is."

I knew deep down that the terror in his eyes was not an act and I thought, maybe he was telling the truth, but I couldn't just believe his word easily, not when my mate is nowhere to be seen and he is the only suspect.

I leaned in closer, my voice low and dangerous as I spoke. "There are two ways this can go, either you tell me where the hell she is and who took her or your entire pack will pay for it, until the day she returns."

Jameson swallowed hard, his eyes darting around nervously. He knew I wasn't bluffing. "I don't know where she might be, alpha." he said, his voice barely above a whisper. Him submitting annoyed me but it also made a sliver of pleasure skate down my spine. It is good to see wolves being put in their place.

“You have to know something!” I snapped, roughing him uf a bit. Fear makes people do all kinds of stupid things. He might say something he shouldn't and that is what I'm looking for right now.

"I can’t think of anything,” he shook his head. “She has never done anything like this, she has always been a good girl. There is a possibility she might have been kidnapped."

"Kidnapped?" I repeated, my voice dripping with fury.

“A few other packs have been notified of your betrothal, alpha. That would definitely have enemies swirling around.”

It was the first sensible thing he has said since he got here. I had a lot of enemies, I've made many of them through the course of my life, but I didn’t think they were stupid enough to take something that was mine.

My eyes narrowed and my fists clenched at my sides. Alpha Jameson swallowed nervously. "If she was not taken, I think it is best if we get a search party. The crowd might have overwhelmed her, she keeps to herself most of the time."

That sounded like a good plan, but something told me it wasn't just that. If she had gone out for air, then he wouldn't be here telling me she is lost. He was just being a father, not wanting to believe the worst has happened to his offspring.

I was more realistic and that was both a blessing and a curse. I had to accept there was a higher chance she was taken to be used as bait, for the person not to be noticed meant they were good. The possibilities of what might be happening to her were endless. None of which ended with her being fine.

I let out a snarl, my frustration bleeding into anger threatening to boil over. We needed to agree that everything was possible, she might have left on her own, or maybe she was taken. We should be prepared for whatever it may be. Aware that every second we spent talking about this meant her getting farther from us, I stood straighter and fixed my burning gaze on Jameson.

"We will find her." I stated, my tone leaving no room for doubt. “Get your warriors ready and send out a search party. Whomever she is found with should be kept alive, I’m going to be the one to kill them.” he nodded, hanging on my every word like a bitch. God, I hated wolves.

He turned and started to turn back to get started on what I instructed. I called his name, his back stiffened before he stopped and turned. "If I find out you are involved in her escape, you will die," it was a promise. I heard his heart skip a beat before he nodded eagerly and disappeared behind the thick cloth of trees.

I mindlinked Donovan and asked him to assemble the warriors we came with. They couldn’t be more than twelve and that was because of the other notable members of the pack that came with their aides.

He gave me their location which was a bit out of Jameson’s territory. I walked there, hoping my anger would lessen but it only seemed to increase with more time i spent not knowing how she was.

“What happened?” Donovan asked, rushing to me. His eyes wide and looking around frantically. He was hoping Jameson tried some shit so he could wage a war and kill the man. He hated the mutts as much as I did. It was among the few things we had in common.

“My fucking bride has gone missing,” his eyes widened as I speak. "Find out who did this," I commanded, addressing the soldiers standing. "Leave no stone unturned, no leads unexplored. I want every member of the pack searched, every suspect interrogated. We will find out who took her and we will bring her back."

The guards nodded, their faces grim as they turned and left to carry out my orders. I stood there for a moment, my mind racing as I tried to come to terms with what had happened.

I took a deep breath, steeling myself for the work that this was going to bring. If she had been truly kidnapped, only the Goddess would know what I would do to whoever kidnapped her.

I would make sure they paid in the most horrifying way. Nobody dared touch what belonged to me. Anybody who did so was inviting intense torture and death.

“How the fuck did it happen?” Donovan seemed to only regain his speech then. I didn't have an answer for him so I changed the topic to one that was more concerning.

“Inform Jameson he and his search party have before dawn to present her, or I’ll have his head. I'll start with his two sons.” Donovan nodded, his eyes glinting with slight mischief. He liked violence and anything that would bring wrath to people he disliked.

Since I knew he would deliver my message fairly well, I got into the car and the chauffeur drove off immediately. Donovan was smart to have my car driven out here, he knows I wouldn't want to spend another breathing moment on this Godforsaken place.

A few minutes into the drive, I started to feel uneasy, we were a bit farther from Jameson’s territory. I tried to ignore it but the more we went, the more I grew restless. I gave up soon after and told the driver to follow the untarred road. He knew it would be messy but didn't argue and in the next intersection between trees, turned the car and started up a dirt path.

I rolled down the windows, the smell of damp earth replacing that of the cool leather interior.

A mouth-watering combination of citrus and vanilla that had my cock hardening told me she must have come this way. Her intoxicating scent had planted itself in my head since I laid my eyes on her.

“Stop.” I commanded, making the driver hit the brakes immediately, the car jerked but I held myself back, which stopped me from colliding with the headrest of the front seat.

“I’m sorry alpha,” I didn't listen to the rest of the things he had to say, my mind occupied by the scent I’d perceived.

I sniffed the air, the smell of trees and other things were strong but as the wind hit, I caught a whiff of that citrus and vanilla. I followed it like a dog hound, following a bounty hunter.

I was going to find her.

6: Open Up

ADRIANA’S POV

I jerked up, feeling someone's presence near me, my heart raced in my chest and I backed away instinctively until I hit the headboard. I didn't even care to let my eyes focus enough to see who was with me, I just felt a presence and immediately my body reacted the best way it knew how. The last time someone entered my room when I was sleeping, they tried to force themselves on me.

"Don't be afraid, princess," a soft voice whispered, like if he spoke any louder I would sprint. I might. "It’s me, Aiden. I was just checking on you to make sure you were okay." my eyes snapped up and sure enough, the large man was hunched over the bed, looking down at me with worried eyes.

I still moved back a little, searching my brain for the memories that seemed vague.

I studied him for a moment, trying to steady my breathing as my memories slowly pieced themselves.

The party, the lycan king, me running away and feeling dizzy, falling and everything going black, the warrior that gave me food and a potion to drink. He was in a sleeveless shirt, his bulging biceps and broad shoulders tapering down his waist. His chest was on display from the low V of his tank top, his muscles defined and well-trained. The body of a man that trained a lot.

I let out a sigh of relief and stretched, feeling more relaxed now that everything has come back to my mind. "Oh, right. Sorry, I was just a little confused."

Aiden smiled. "That's understandable. You were pretty out of it. How are you feeling now?" He asked, his soft gaze watching me.

I thought about it for a moment. "I feel a lot better. I must have passed out after taking that potion. My leg still hurts, but it's not as bad as it was before." I explained. Since I didn’t have a wolf, my healing process was a lot slower than normal wolves.

"That's good to hear," Aiden said, standing up. "It’s good to know you're awake and doing better. Get some rest, we need to talk. I'll check on you later. I have a few questions." something in my stomach churned but I managed to nod and try to smile.

I watched as he left the room, closing the door behind him. It was nice to know that someone was looking out for me. It’s something I’ve never had even from the people I called family. Though I was still a bit skeptical, he hasn't done anything up till now that shows he has bad intentions, so I guess it means I could trust him.

I was deep in thought when a soft knock came on the door. My first reaction was panic before I told myself it was probably just Aiden, and if he wanted to hurt me. He had plenty o f time to do that when I was unconscious and defenseless. I was still defenseless but he didn't know that.

The door opened moments later and he walked in, his steps unhurried. His large form moving with grace you wouldn't think he was capable of achieving.

“Hope you are well rested now,” he started. He moved to the bench I'd sat in earlier and lowered himself to it. His large form folded as he sat, the chair squeaked under his weight, he didn't look worried that it would break or anything.

“What is your name?” he asks. I stared at him in panic, aware that he could hear the crazy way my heart was beating. I didn't have a way to stop it so I just watched him. He sighed and ran his hand through his hair. “I know you’re doing it for your safety, but I need to know who you are.”

When I didn't say anything, I expected him to blow up but he just sat, looking deep in thought.

"I get that you’re running,” he started, he waited for me to confirm that. I just stayed quiet, staring at him with what I hope is an empty expression. “And if I'm going to try and help you, I need to know who or what you're running from?"

I hesitated, not wanting to reveal the truth. If I told him that I was Alpha Jameson Peirce’s daughter, the daughter of an alpha from a neighboring pack, even if he didn't belong to any of the packs close by, he would still be duty-bound to report me to my father. And if my father found out that I had been running, he would be even more determined to marry me off as soon as possible so I could be trapped forever. I don’t even want to think of what the lycan king would do to me if he heard of what I did. If he doesn't already know, that is.

I didn’t know his stance on the marriage but it was a slap to his face, the highest form of insult for him. I had disrespected him by running and the consequences would be dire for me. After hearing all the things I have about him, death would be the only escape for me. That is if he doesn’t get to me and kills me first. Except, he wouldn't, he is known for his crazy torture techniques.

"I am running from my alpha," I admitted silently, trying to keep my voice steady. "He wants to sell me off to a man who isn’t my mate." The emotions won as I stuttered through the words.

Aiden frowned, his brow furrowed. "I see," he muttered, his voice laced with skepticism. "And who is this alpha?"

I hesitated again, trying to think of what to say that wouldn't immediately make him connect the dots. "I am sorry but I can’t tell you that," I went for the safest option which was telling him nothing, hoping that he wouldn't ask any more questions. Thankfully, he didn’t.

Aiden seemed to consider this for a moment, his expression softened slightly. "I'll help you," he said finally. "But you have to promise me that you'll not attempt to run until you're well enough to leave. I can't risk the Alpha finding out where you are."

I nodded, relief washing over me. "Thank you," I said, tears welling up in my eyes. "I promise I won’t run."

Aiden gave me a curt nod and got up to leave the room. "I'll bring you more food and water," he said over his shoulder. "Rest and get your strength back. We'll figure out a plan to get you out of here."

“But I am okay now. I should leave immediately, the alpha must be looking for me.” My heart was racing in my chest. Just thinking of my father’s wrath made me want to get the hell out of here much faster.

I trusted Aiden to a certain degree but every second I spent in this room was a second wasted when I could have used it to put so much more distance between my father, Xander and I. I approached him, my hands shaking with fear, the desperation leaking out of me like the breath I was exhaling.

"I need to get out of here, now.” I pleaded, my eyes narrowing in panic.

Aiden's brow furrowed with concern. "I get that you think it is urgent but you are more than safe here, try and get some more rest. You said your leg was still hurting, didnt you? How do you expect to run in that state?"

I took a deep breath and tried to steady my voice. "I know I said that, but I feel better after taking that potion. See, I can even stand on my own and I barely feel any pain."

Aiden paused, looking torn. His hand hovered over the knob of the door. "Listen, I can't just let you leave without knowing where you're going or how you'll survive. If that's the case, I will go with you."

I shook my head frantically. "No, you won't. If you come with me, you will end up getting yourself killed. You have done enough already and I don't want to hurt you. Just let me go."

Aiden's expression softened and he placed a hand on my shoulder. "I can’t let you go alone. Look, I will get some supplies and let you rest for a bit before we go. You can't just run off into the wilderness without any provisions. When you get to your destination safely, I'll come back. I'll feel better knowing you are safe and i didnt let you go by yourself." His tone suggested I couldn't change his mind, and I decided it was better to let him and prepare for us to leave than me stopping to argue, and wasting more time.

Tears of gratitude welled in my eyes. "Thank you, Aiden. Thank you so much."

He nodded and exited the room, leaving me inside. I sat on the bed, my hands wrapped around myself as I tried to calm my frayed nerves.

I wasn't even close to being out of danger yet, I doubted I would be safe even after leaving the werewolf community, but at least I would be somewhere that they weren't the vast majority. I just had to keep my mouth shut and hope Aiden doesn't figure out my true identity. At least until I was far away from here, from my father and King Xander.

I sat nervously on the edge of the bed, my hands twisted together in my lap as I waited for Aiden to return with the supplies he said he was getting.

Just when I wanted to start pulling my hair out of worry, Aiden walked back into the room with a backpack, similar to the one I had but bigger. He’d just slipped in when we heard a loud banging sound. My heart dropped and my eyes widened in panic. I turned to Aiden, trying to make sure he heard the same thing.

He was frowning, which told me he did.

"What is it?" I asked, my heart racing.

"I'm not sure," Aiden replied, his voice low and guarded. "But I'm going to go check it out."

I watched anxiously as Aiden slipped out of the room, closing the door behind him. I didn't need him to tell me to stay back, or that things aren't alright.

I had always known that my father's guards would come after me, but I had hoped that they were not the ones here and that they wouldn't catch up to us until we were far away from here.

As the minutes ticked by, my fear grew. I strained to hear what was happening outside, but all I could make out was the muffled sound of voices. Finally, after what felt like an eternity, Aiden returned.

"I assume it’s your father's guards, they said they are looking for a young lady that got lost." he said, his face grim. The first thing that came to my mind was he knew, but he didn’t seem bothered by the bit of information I hid from him. The guards would have told him anyway. "I’m guessing they're here for you."

My heart sank. I looked up at Aiden, my eyes pleading. "I don't want to go with them, please what are we going to do?" I asked.

“The potion I gave you hides your scent, only high ranking members can smell you so they can’t tell you are here, but they won’t believe me.” He looked around with a sullen look on his face.

“There is no way for you to run out but the front door.” My heart has dropped to the pit of my stomach at this point. My father wouldn’t show me any mercy and I doubted the lycan king would too. I was between a rock and a hard place with no sight of escape.

“What else can we do?”

He took a deep breath and squared his shoulders. "We're going to fight," he said. "We'll never make it out of here if we don't."
