Chapter 5
On the day of the wedding dress fitting, Sally came too.
She even said she wanted to be my bridesmaid.
I didn't say a word and looked at William.
He didn't say anything and happily asked Sally to choose the bridesmaid dress.
I came there just to watch the show. The styles of wedding dresses meant nothing to me.
But Sally was in high spirits.
When I came out of the fitting room, Sally was wearing a grand diamond-studded wedding dress, holding hands with William for a photo.
She saw me and provoked me invisibly.
"Annie, I just want to know what I will look like in a wedding dress, so I try it on in advance. You don't mind, do you?"
"Of course not. Please go ahead."
I thought William would be happy because of my generosity, but he suddenly glared at me.
He asked, "You don't mind?"
I laughed and said, "Why would I? You two have known each other for so many years. If you were gonna be together, wouldn't you do that already?"
That was what William and Sally had said countless times before, and now I used it to confront him.
An employee in the store came forward holding a bouquet and handed it to Sally.
"The bride is so beautiful. Today is the 25th-anniversary celebration of our store. Anyone who tries on wedding dresses in the store will receive a bouquet. I wish you and the groom a sweet and happy life together."
Sally smiled sweetly and silently accepted the bouquet.
But William said, "She is not the bride."
He looked at me and added, "This is the one who is going to marry me."
The employee suddenly became awkward.
"No, don't talk nonsense," I denied with a smile, "I just came to accompany them to try on wedding dresses and try some on myself by the way."
I took out my phone and took pictures of them while praising them.
"What a perfect match!"
William's face suddenly turned gloomy.
Men are really strange. When they get what they want, they become unhappy.
Chapter 6
On the way back to my apartment, William stopped the car at a flower shop.
After buying a large bouquet of roses, he opened the back door and said to me, "Come and sit in the passenger seat."
I felt a little carsick, so I didn't refuse.
But when he handed me the bouquet, I pushed it away.
"Keep your distance. I'm allergic to pollen."
We'd known each other for 15 years, and yet he didn't know that about me.
It seemed that being persistently and humbly in love with someone was really stupid.
He hesitated for a moment, then threw the bouquet into a trash can.
He opened his mouth, hesitated for a good while, and finally said, "I'm sorry, I didn't know."
William was a clean freak and didn't like people getting too close to him.
It was the first time I sat in the passenger seat of his car.
But I saw cookie crumbs in the gap of the seat.
I even saw a photo of him and Sally in the compartment of the makeup mirror.
I was so excited on the day we got our marriage certificate that I subconsciously sat in the passenger seat and got scolded by him.
Once, I was eating in the bedroom.
He cursed at me and said I had no manners.
Those standards turned out to be specially tailored for me.
I took out the photo in the compartment of the makeup mirror and mercilessly threw it at William's face.
His face changed. "No, let me explain..."
After murmuring for a long time, he still couldn't explain anything.
Just as the traffic light turned red, there was a loud crash as the car behind collided with his.
William got out of the car to check the situation.
Beep!
His phone received a message notification.
I picked up his phone and entered Sally's birthday to unlock it.
[William, you didn't go home last night. Is Annie angry?]
[William, I have an allergy. Can you bring me some ointment and help me apply it?]
Following that text was a photo with a hickey and a half-exposed chest...
