Chapter 4

Martin’s brows furrowed as he snapped at Conrad.

“Impossible. She just gave blood to Tricia. There’s no way she could be here.”

Conrad lowered his voice, trying to reason with him. “Boss, maybe you should check. If it really is the Madam, she could be in serious danger.”

Martin shot him a glare, his tone cutting.

“I said it’s impossible! If it were her, why didn’t she call me? Besides, she was perfectly fine just now. How could she suddenly be covered in blood?”

With no other choice, the doctor arranged for me to be transferred to another hospital.

By the time everything was done, more than half an hour had passed. The doctor said regretfully to me, “I’m sorry. We couldn’t save your baby.”

It felt like someone had ripped my heart apart. My mind went blank, and I shook my head over and over.

“Doctor, please, I’m begging you. Save it…”

The doctor gave me a sympathetic look.

“If you’d arrived half an hour earlier, maybe. But now, there’s no chance.”

“Half an hour?”

I stared at him, dumbfounded, while my tears streamed down uncontrollably. At that moment, I gave up on Martin completely.

“I understand. Thank you. Could I borrow your phone?”

I called my lawyer to ask him to draft a divorce agreement and booked a flight out of the country.

Struggling to get up, I prepared to leave, but the doctor stopped me kindly.

“Madam, you’ve just miscarried. Your body is too weak. You really should stay and recover for a few days.”

I shook my head firmly.

“No need. Thank you for your concern, but I’m leaving.”

I wanted to leave this place forever.

Meanwhile, Martin was still at Tricia’s side. Even though her cheeks had regained color and she had eaten a full bowl of food, he insisted that the doctors run a full checkup.

“Boss, Ms. Gambino has fully recovered. The baby is very healthy, too,” the doctor reported happily.

Finally, Martin’s tense expression eased. Only then did he think of me.

He stood up, ready to go pick me up himself. However, just as he reached the door, Tricia called out softly, “Martin, my chest still feels a little tight. Can you stay with me a little longer?”

Without hesitation, Martin turned back, tending to her carefully. It wasn’t until evening that he summoned Conrad.

“Go to the blood-drawing room and bring my wife home. Tell her I’ll be staying here with Tricia for the next couple of days. She should rest well at home.”

After a pause, he added, “And prepare some iron-rich food for her. She just gave blood and needs to replenish her strength.”

Conrad obeyed, but soon returned in a panic.

“Boss, the blood-drawing room is empty. The staff said Madam was taken away earlier by Ms. Bress.”

Martin frowned and immediately called Clara.

“Where did you take Rosie?”

Clara, who had gone out with her friends, only then remembered. Flustered, she admitted, “Oh no! I locked Rosie in the freezer. You’d better check!”

Martin’s face drained of color, and he rushed toward the freezer.

“How could you put her in there?”

“I was just trying to help! I thought the cold would help her recover faster. I meant well, but you’re scolding me?” Clara complained unhappily.

Martin’s expression softened slightly.

“I know you meant well, but you can’t just forget about her like that.”

When he yanked the freezer door open, the room was empty.

I was gone.

Panic stirred in Martin’s chest. He immediately ordered Conrad to search for any trace of me.

An hour later, Conrad returned, trembling so hard that his teeth chattered.

“Boss, Madam had a miscarriage. She’s already boarded a plane and left.”
