Chapter 3
For a whole week, Richard had been inquiring for news about me everywhere, only to get nothing. He wanted to torture my family members to force me to show up.
Decisively, he found someone to smash my father's ward. He looked around. It was like the information he got. There was no trace of me.
"Kate is heartless to the extreme, not caring about her biological father, who is about to die! It seems that she will only beg for mercy after I cut off her father's other leg!"
My mother stared at the madman in front of her with red eyes, struggling to get up and coughing incessantly.
"You heartless person! Kate treated you so well back then! She begged us to pay your tuition fees and sent you abroad. She... she won't see you!"
My mother held back her words and trembled with tears.
"I know she doesn't want to mention my death for fear of causing secondary harm to me."
But Richard didn't care about my mother's change at all. He became angrier upon learning about his miserable past. He instantly pulled my mother up.
"Don't think that being emotional with me will work! Even though you gave me alms, so what?"
He pulled off my mother's oxygen tube. Suffocating, my mother tried to regain her life-saving straw, but she couldn't reach it no matter how hard she tried. As she bent her body, her eyes almost popped out.
"Don't you look down on me in your heart? She relied on the fact that I had no money back then. She has been oppressing me with a little benefit. Now that I have everything. You still have a high and mighty look!"
Richard gritted his teeth.
The past seemed to be a shackle that had been bothering him. He kicked the oxygen machine aside without hesitation.
"I know that he still cares about the fact that I begged my parents to help him with his tuition fees back then."
He was at the top of his class in college, but his parents died. He couldn't pay the tuition fees all at once.
When I took the money from my father, he overheard my father's suspicion of him unexpectedly.
"Kate, what's good about the poor boy? Consider the money as a donation, but you must never marry him!"
I handed the money to Richard perfunctorily, only to see his trembling and humble look.
He cried and said, "Kate, give me another two or three years. I will make you live a life that everyone envies."
"I believed him. Later I learned that he had an opportunity to study abroad through an exchange program. That's why I didn't hinder him from heading towards a broader world and put my selfish desires aside."
"When he firmly gave up the opportunity to go abroad, I called him a poor guy and said that I just pitied him."
As clever as he was, he cried and begged me not to say such words out of anger. He couldn't be without me.
Feeling sad in my heart, I laughed with great disdain.
I made him kneel and beg me. Then I went to scold Emery, who he treated as his younger sister.
I spread rumors about how intimate they were in private. I used various means to force him to hate me.
"I wonder if he will relate to the pain in my heart when he achieves his ideals."
He stubbornly refused to leave. Then I showed him the kiss marks on my neck that were made by others. Only after that was he in despair.
"I will never tell him that I forged the kiss marks."
"No one can understand my pain of driving away the man I love the most."
"I never dare to believe that in the five years since my death, Richard does fall in love with Emery."
"I underestimate Richard's hatred for me. He grew up in hatred and gained the ability to decide other's fate without bearing the consequences."
Watching my mother suffer and unable to speak, he grinned.
"If Kate doesn't apologize to Emery on her initiative, I can't guarantee what I will do."
I cried and threw myself into my mother's arms. I begged her to tell Richard about my death and not to hide it anymore.
I dared not recall the day when I had died so desperately and horribly.
My mom pursed her lips tightly.
She couldn't hear my cries, but she used her meager strength to preserve my last dignity.
Chapter 4
I didn't expect Emery to act to this extent.
I could see that her legs had healed. But she clung to Richard, letting him take care of her and feeding her himself.
Looking at the gentle and considerate man, I was heartbroken.
I remembered that I once gave him a lucky charm I had made by myself clumsily. He fed me food with sadness, telling me not to do so anymore. After all, he would feel sorry for me.
"It seems like it happened just yesterday. Now, I can only watch him give his love to someone else."
"Richard, I dreamed of the dance studio again last night. Kate pushed me down. I cried for help, but no one came! I thought... I would never see you again. I can't forget what happened that night!"
"Richard! I'm afraid Kate will come out and retaliate against me again. I'm so scared!"
Emery hugged herself hypocritically, looking extremely flustered. She was trembling.
I roared in the air, saying, "She's a fraud! Richard, don't believe her!"
It was she who had jumped down voluntarily that night.
I remembered that she had asked me to meet her. She arrogantly said that she would accompany Richard abroad. In the future, she would be the only one by his side.
Although I was sad, I wished her well. I didn't expect her to grab my hand and pull me to the window.
"But as long as you're alive, Richard won't fall in love with me! So, you can only die!"
She wanted to push me down with bloodthirsty eyes, but I held onto the window frame, refusing to let go. In the struggle, half of her body fell out.
I wanted to save her. She pried open my hand and fell straight down.
Richard held her in his arms sadly.
With his eyes turning red, he said fiercely, "I almost forgot it! Kate is still hiding and not coming out. Don't worry, she can't escape!"
I followed him closely as he left. Even though I begged behind him, he stepped on the gas pedal and hit my mom, who was buying groceries.
A burst of screams mixed with the screeching of brakes, rang out. My kind and amiable mother fell into a pool of blood, groaning in pain.
She had been discharged from the hospital. She was determined to take on the burden of her life, but Richard ruined everything!
Richard got out of the car and clapped his hands. Someone immediately carried my mother onto a stretcher.
I shouted in alarm and followed them to a hospital.
This hospital was a private one.
I realized that this was an asset invested by Richard. I was shocked.
I dared not imagine what Richard would do to my mother. He sneered and called for a doctor.
"Save her life. Amputate her right leg. This is what they owe Emery!"
The doctor hesitated and said, "Mr. Hawk, this patient's right leg can recover. Do you want to amputate it?"
"Am I your boss or her? Do you want to work here?"
I was on the verge of collapse. I went to Richard's side to beg for mercy. My father was still in a coma. Our family could only rely on my mother to support our lives. He wanted to amputate my mother's right leg!
Upon hearing this, the doctor nodded respectfully. He instructed a nurse to push my mother into the operating room.
Only then did I realize that the Richard in front of me wasn't what he used to be?
He would no longer be nervous and shy when he saw my parents. He had become insane! He was a devil disguised as a human!
I cried non-stop until dawn. My mother was pushed out of the operating room.
My father rushed over when he heard the news. At the sight of my mother, who had gone through so much suffering, he almost forgot that he was still in a wheelchair. He was struggling to get up.
He couldn't believe that his healthy wife from this morning was now lying on a bed on the verge of death in just half a day.
He crawled to the side of my mother's bed. The sunken blanket made him know what had happened. He frantically lifted the blanket and saw that my mother had lost her right leg!
My father took a deep breath. With tears streaming down his face, he, who supported my family, collapsed and wailed like a child.
I looked at my father, who was crying and couldn't help but hug him. We cried together. It was all my fault!
Richard looked at my parents expressionlessly as if he were a cold-blooded beast.
"You have always been talking about lending me the tuition fees, right? Now I will repay the money to you along with the compensation for the car accident."
He opened a suitcase and lifted it to smash it on my father's head. With fresh banknotes flying around, my father stared at him attentively, intending to get up and fight him.
"You beast! Are human lives that important in your eyes?"
Richard took a step back and laughed recklessly as if he were an unfeeling executioner.
His eyes widened with rage as he cursed loudly. He said, "Is Emery's life so cheap in her eyes? Didn't you treat my life as a joke back then? In your eyes, I am just a pauper. A pauper's life is even less valuable!"
It was a scorching summer. His words disappointed me so much.
My father gritted his teeth and pounced on him. His legs went weak. He went down straightly, like a humble defeated soldier.
Richard was taken aback. Then he became even more excited. He then took out a stack of banknotes and slapped my father's face with them.
"It seems that you are more sensible! In that case, I will reward you a little more and spare your two good legs. Otherwise, you won't have a chance to see your daughter begging me for mercy on her knees."
My father wanted to get up and argue back. The pain from his wound made him unable to straighten up. He fell to the ground with his head straight pounding against the ground.
It ruined my father's self-esteem. He would never apologize to a devil by kowtowing to him!
Hearing a loud bang, my mother woke up from the bed. She stared in astonishment at her husband kowtowing to the killer. She was so angry that she rolled her eyes and fainted again.
My father struggled to lift his head and roared with tears.
"Kate is dead! She died five years ago! You can never take revenge on her! You are the one who killed her!"
Upon hearing this, I closed my eyes in fear and tightly covered my ears. The nightmare that I couldn't shake off came to me again.
