Chapter 2
Emery was my high school goddess. Later, we met by chance. It was when she got drunk after a breakup.
"Asher, there is no light in my world." She cried loudly in front of me.
"From now on, I will be your light." I hugged Emery with heartache.
"Asher, can you marry me?"
I was so overwhelmingly happy, and we got married.
After the marriage, I treated her as a treasure and an angel. A year later, she gave birth to a lovely girl.
I obeyed her every word and did everything as she said.
But she took my love for her as capital to do whatever she pleased.
Whenever she was slightly unhappy, she would get angry at me, shouting and cursing at me.
Instead of arguing with her, I had to apologize and ask for her forgiveness.
I even dared not stand up to pee at home.
Per Emery, I would splash the toilet everywhere, breeding bacteria and viruses.
She might get gynecological diseases.
"For the sake of my health, you must squat to urinate!"
When I squatted to pee, I was like a eunuch and a woman. I was not a man.
I dared not stand up.
Once she found out, I had to bear with her raging anger.
"Asher, how many times have I told you? Why are you standing up to pee?"
"Do you have any sense of responsibility? Can you consider me a little bit?"
"You are too much! You treat my health as a joke! You don't love me at all!"
As she scolded me, she started smashing things. Sometimes, she even hit me.
I let her beat and scold me. I could only hold back my grievances in my heart and endure them myself.
She was always dominant, and I always gave in.
For her, I had changed inside and out. My old friends said that I had become a different person.
Only I knew the bitterness in it.
Next, this gathering naturally ended unhappily.
"As you wish, I will go get a room with Spencer!"
Finally, Emery left after saying so.
Whether it was out of anger or not, she and Spencer left in front of everyone and got into his car.
Others looked at me as if I had been cuckolded.
I left and sneered.
"What a fucking class reunion. It's just a bunch of crows having a meeting. No one is good."
I drove home and went to bed.
But as soon as I lay down, I received a distress call from Emery.
She was in a panic.
"Something's wrong, Asher. Spencer and I had a car accident..."
Chapter 3
Hearing such news, I laughed with schadenfreude.
"What else could I say? God does dispose."
"Asher, come to me quickly. Come to me quickly... I'm scared..."
Emery's voice was filled with a sob.
I didn't want to go to her at first. But she was my wife and also the mother of my daughter.
Now that she had a car accident, she might be injured.
When I arrived there, she was holding Spencer's arm, crying in distress.
I saw that she only had some scratches. When I turned Spencer over, I was shocked.
His face was covered in blood. Both eyelids were split open.
He was seriously injured. His eyes should have hit the steering wheel. They were bloodied. His skull might also be damaged.
"Did you call 911?"
"No, Asher, I... I called you. Then my cell phone ran out of battery. His cell phone was broken... I'm so unlucky..."
Emery cried while speaking.
"What a stupid woman. Instead of calling 911 immediately after the accident, she called me. I'm not a doctor."
If I hadn't come, Spencer might have died.
I quickly made an emergency call.
Although I disliked Spencer, his life mattered.
After the ambulance arrived, I was ready to leave.
"Asher, where are you going?" Emery saw me start the car and hurried over.
"Go home and go to bed."
Emery looked angry, saying, "Spencer had such a serious car accident, and you will go to bed?"
"Huh?"
I was stunned. I had called for an ambulance and saved Spencer's life. I had done my best.
"Why isn't Emery satisfied?"
She requested me, saying, "Go to the hospital with me to take care of Spencer. You are stronger than me. I can't handle him alone."
I stepped on the accelerator and left directly. The car exhaust sprayed Emery's face.
When I got home, I fell asleep right away.
Without Emery by my side, the two-meter bed was too spacious. I was so comfortable. I didn't have to worry about snoring and being kicked under the bed by her.
That night, I slept particularly soundly.
While Emery stayed in the hospital overnight.
Chapter 4
The next day, I learned about the situation at the hospital.
Emery was fine, but Spencer's situation was a bit special.
Fortunately, there was no brain injury, and this life was saved.
Unfortunately, his eyes were injured. Both corneas were damaged. It was likely that he would become blind in the future.
Emery called me and cried sadly.
I comforted her while secretly laughing.
"Take your time to cry. I'll send our daughter to school."
I hung up her call and sent Laura to school.
Emery had been staying at the hospital for three days.
I wondered why her first love boyfriend was so important to her. She, a married woman, was away from home for three days for his sake.
Fortunately, my daughter was not clingy to her. It had been three days, and she hadn't asked where her mother went.
On the fourth day, Emery was finally home.
Her eyes were red. She seemed to have cried.
As soon as she got home, she seemed like a different person. She cooked and cleaned the room.
I was surprised.
We had been married for five years, and I did all the housework. Emery didn't ever lift a finger.
Emery only needed to lie in bed and browse her cell phone. She didn't even go to work.
She said she had a weak body. She would get tired easily, and she couldn't go to work.
It was not a big deal. Emery was indeed really something.
She came from a good family. Her father left her a large inheritance before he passed away. With it, she could live her whole life with pretty ease.
And I ran two steak houses.
But her performance today surprised me.
"Emery, what's wrong with you?"
With confusion and curiosity, I sat across from her.
Emery looked at me, clasping her hands together. Her eyes were filled with unease and nervousness.
"Asher, can you grant me a request?"
"Tell me."
I was ready, thinking, "If Emery wants a divorce, I'll go with her to the Civil Affairs Bureau."
"Asher, Spencer's eyes are ruined, and he can't see the light anymore."
"Hmm, I know."
"Um..."
Emery rubbed her hands, stood up, and sat down again. Then she sighed for a while before speaking.
"Asher, can you donate your corneas to Spencer?"
"What?"
I was stunned when I heard Emery's words.
