Chapter 2
I called my mom.
I told her I wanted to go back home and live with her until my baby was born.
She was a bit surprised when she received the call.
"What's wrong? Did you bicker with Martin? Or did Margie pick on you? I wanted to pick you up before, but you refused."
"No, I just think Martin often goes on business trips, and Zoe's due date is similar to mine. If Margie can't take care of both of us, then I should go home."
"Mom, please ask Warren to come and pick me up."
"Okay, we'll come over right away. We'll be there in a little while. Pack your hospital bag."
"I packed it already."
My mom hung up the phone, and I checked my documents again.
When I just found myself pregnant, my mom and my brother Warren Brown wanted to pick me up and take care of me. With Margie and Zoe living with me, it was not convenient for them to come over.
At that time, Martin, a male chauvinist, said that I should not go home and stay with my parents until the baby was born because people would laugh at him if they found out.
For the sake of his reputation, I didn't go back.
I defended him all the time.
Even though I found out that my son Lucas had been switched, I would only be sad for two days. And then we made up and they kept me in the dark about everything.
Such a man was not worthy of being a father.
In my previous life, my amniotic fluid suddenly broke. I was afraid that the baby would lack oxygen, so I had a cesarean section.
Before entering the operating room, I asked Margie to call my parents, and she readily agreed.
But she didn't call my parents at all and instead switched the two children after they were born.
This time, I went to another hospital and let my parents accompany me during childbirth.
I had to make sure everything went well.
Chapter 3
My parents and Warren arrived quickly.
When I heard the doorbell in the bedroom, Margie got up from the sofa.
"Who is this at this hour? Renee, did you order takeout again? I've told you that eating junk food is not good for your health."
She grumbled as she went to answer the door.
Seeing my mom and Warren at the door, I wanted to cry. I turned around, grabbed my suitcase, and walked towards the door.
Zoe was lying on the couch. When she saw me carrying a suitcase, she called out my name.
"Renee, where are you going?"
I ignored her. Warren squeezed in through the door, took my suitcase from me, and handed it to Dad. Warren held my arm and said, "Be careful. Watch your step."
Margie looked at the suitcase and then at me, feeling embarrassed.
"Renee, what are you doing? Where are you going?"
I looked at her and felt disgusted.
"Martin often goes on business trips. Zoe is about to give birth, and so am I. You're unable to take care of us together, so my parents are here to pick me up. In this way, you can take good care of Zoe."
Margie forced a smile and came over to hold my hand, but I dodged calmly.
"No, I can take care of both of you. Besides, how could Martin not come back when you give birth? Zoe and you will give birth together. What could go wrong?"
Zoe chimed in, "That's right, Renee. It's not good for Martin's fortune if you live with your parents before giving birth."
I sneered and looked at Zoe's belly.
"If that's the case, I'll stay and you have to leave," I said.
Zoe's face darkened, and Margie was also unhappy. She looked at me with a fake smile and said, "Renee, that's not how it works."
I couldn't be bothered to argue with her. My mom came over and held my hand, ready to leave.
Seeing this situation, Margie quickly stood in front of us and said, "No, that won't do. Renee's married to Martin and has become part of our family. She's my daughter-in-law, and she is carrying Martin's child and about to give birth. So, she can't go back home."
My mom had a good temper, but my dad was not patient.
I caught a glimpse of Zoe's belly and mocked, "According to your logic, Zoe's carrying a child out of wedlock. Who is the baby's father?"
This remark was scathing and ironic.
Warren laughed out loud, and I almost couldn't hold back my laughter.
Margie's face and Zoe's turned red and then pale.
Taking advantage of their awkwardness, my mother pulled me out the door.
Margie blocked the door with her body and threw a tantrum. "If you want to leave, step over me!"
Chapter 4
Warren was impatient and got tough. "You're old, so I won't lay a hand on you. But don't forget, this is a society ruled by law. It's illegal to restrict Renee's personal freedom!"
Margie raised her hand to slap him, but he grabbed her hand with a little force, causing her to fall to the ground.
Margie got up and rushed towards me, and Zoe rushed towards Warren when she saw her mother fall.
But unexpectedly, she ran too fast and her slippers fell off, and she was about to fall on us. I dodged immediately, but I stumbled and slumped down on the ground.
I felt tightness in my belly and broke out in a cold sweat.
A rush of water came out, and my pants quickly got wet. My water broke after I fell.
Zoe's condition was bad too. She looked even more miserable than me, clutching her stomach and rolling on the ground in pain.
My mom shouted, "Stop fighting! They're both going into labor!"
I grabbed her hand and told her, "Take care of me, and let Margie take care of Zoe."
"Also, don't let Dr. Henry Perry deliver my baby. Dr. Hannah White gave me prenatal checkups. Go to her."
My mom nodded repeatedly.
Warren looked at me and said, "Stop talking and conserve your energy. I'll call Martin. How can he be on a business trip when you're about to give birth?"
I held him back and shook my head.
"Warren, don't call him. I'll divorce him as soon as the baby is born."
"Why?"
"I had a dream that you were not there when I gave birth. Margie switched my son with Zoe's daughter."
I said this, but they all thought I was too nervous and comforted me with a smile. "That's not possible. We are all here. You have peace of mind! Don't think too much. It's just a dream."
That was not a dream but my miserable life.
I held Warren's hand tightly and said, "Warren, it's true. Blake wants Zoe to give him a son before they get married, so they are planning to switch my child."
