Chapter 7
The doorbell woke Frederick up and he hissed out loudly.
"Who the hell is disturbing my peace this morning?"
He grumpily said with his eyes still closed. He got home and went to bed due to tiredness.
The bell came again and he got down from the bed, picked his robe and threw it over his body, and took a long stroll out of his bedroom.
He rushed down the stairs and pulled the main door open after looking through the pinhole.
"You don't have to wake me up so early like this. What happened to your house?"
Larry pushed him away and got inside.
"Dude, you disappeared without a trace last night. I called you severally but no way so I had to come here to see if you are home or you have been killed by the black Devilish Angel"
Frederick frowned deeply, causing wrinkles on his forehead. He can't believe that Larry would be in his home as early as six to ask if he has been killed or is still alive. Understandably, Larry is looking out for him but he should have called again.
"I am alive though, next time, call the phone. I don't appreciate people waking me up early in the morning."
Frederick stated and walked to one of his couches to sit down.
Larry glared at him and walked to the bar to pour himself a drink.
Among all the four friends, Larry and Frederick have to be the closest, they are more like brothers and they look out for each other.
"Don't forget a glass for me"
Frederick yelled. Larry shook his head,
"I am sure you are not handicapped"
He said and walked to a couch to sit down with a glass of wine.
Frederick ignored his statement and closed his eyes then rested his head backward.
"Now that you have seen that I am okay, you can as well leave if you are done with your drink"
"Sorry bro I am not going anywhere until you tell me what happened last night, you owe me that for being worried about you"
"Larry, there is nothing to tell you."
"I hear you! Then be ready to house me all day because I am not leaving here without hearing it. You can't tell me you disappeared for nothing. What did the black witch do to you? I mean how did it go with her? Don't pretend as if you don't know what I am talking about"
Frederick chuckled and opened his eyes.
"We had sex, are you good now?"
Larry stilled and stared at Frederick,
"Are you for real? Where did you get a condom because I know you never carry one with you or did she come with one?"
Frederick narrowed his eyes at Larry and wondered who the hell he was at that moment. Larry is not bothered he had sex with a stranger but if he used a condom. Obviously, Larry expected him to have sex.
"Larry, I think we are done with this discussion. I need to freshen up. See yourself out if you are done"
Frederick said and stood up then walked upstairs.
Larry watched him leave and afterwards, smirked.
"You got whipped after all. She really got to you for you to have sex with someone you don't know, unlike you"
He said and drained the last drop of his wine, set the glass on the side stool then left the house.
Frederick Bushman lives alone in this big apartment of his. It was moderate enough for a bachelor like him. Although his girlfriends stay here with him but he is single now and for a long time he has been searching for Mrs. Right. No lady has even shared his view of life and he is afraid to settle down with someone who has nothing in common with him.
For five years he has lived in Big Raven, but his identity has been unknown. His friends knew little about him and he is not ready to disclose who he is to the world.
Every single person sees him as an average guy but he knows he is more than that.
Right under the shower, his mind would not stop wondering about the lady he met last night, how right last night felt.
He is not crazy but meeting someone who is crazy made him crazy and he doesn't know if it's a good thing.
"Kristen, I just hope that it wouldn't be sex only for us. I would want to know what else you can offer"
He said under the shower. His mind went to Larry and he wondered if he is gone. He chuckled, it's unbelievable that Larry had to come as early as this to know how his night went yesterday.
"Thanks, Larry. You have proven to me countless times that you are more than a brother to me. This friendship of ours will linger for a long time"
He said and turned off the shower then stepped out of the bathroom.
It's a Saturday morning and he had no plans on how to spend it. Maybe he would do something different, like looking for the Angel he spent the night with.
He walked out of the bathroom and walked straight to his huge crystal clear closet.
His room looked luxurious enough. There is a huge king-size bed in the middle of the room and a rug made of gold under the bed. It's in a way that the bed is on top of the rug
By the right end of the room, has a mini fridge and the left side has a huge portrait of him hanging on the wall.
The wall was painted blue and white horizontally and a painting of his parents was on the wall at the back of his closet. He wants no one to see it so he uses the closet to block it.
In fact, none of his exes has ever visited this room.
He has another room he uses as his bedroom whenever his exes visit and it has always gone like that.
Hopefully, one day he would trust someone enough to allow her into this bedroom of his.
Chapter 8
Kristen sat legs crossed on the floor with her eyes glued to the big television. She was having breakfast of hot brewed Choco and plantain pizza.
She was dressed in bum shorts and a creamy crop top.
Good sex increases appetite. She is not a foodie but she has been eating more than required lately.
There was nothing to see on the TV except some documentaries which she is not a fan but to get her mind off the image that refused to leave her mind, she decided to watch the dumb documentaries. She could change the channel but she just doesn't want to.
A knock came out the door and she ignored it, it came again yet she pretended not to hear it.
After several knocks, the person stopped knocking and the next second, Kristen heard the door cracking open and frowned deeply.
She stood up to find who is at the door.
Her living room wasn't adjacent to the main door so before she can get to the living room, she would have to go through the little dining room and go past the storehouse before getting to the main door.
Kristen has no one visiting her so she had not bothered about the weirdness of the house's architectural design.
But funny enough, a door that could lead directly to the living room could have been crafted but the builders did injustice to the house and the occupant didn't care.
Seeing who is at the door, her frown deepened,
"Some people don't know their boundaries at all"
Kristen thought to herself. The lady at the door is no other but her neighbor, Noami.
"Hi Noami, what can I do for you?"
Noami smiled broadly. It was obvious she was trying to understand the way the house is.
She just thought it was a long corridor without rooms but seeing Kristen coming out from the far end, she realized there is more to the house. It's odd to her.
After her puzzle got solved, she brought her eyes and fixed them on Kristen. To her, Kristen was naked.
"What would prompt a young lady like Kristen to dress up this way?"
She wondered in her mind, forgetting that it's normal in the world she lives in and Kristen could choose to dress anyhow she wants to and again, Kristen is at home so what she is putting on is not inappropriate.
Noami has lived here for a year now but she has never for once visited Kristen because of how she views Kristen and Kristen on the other hand, never bothered about her.
Noami has tried several times to understand the person her neighbor is.
She has no friends, not a family member has visited and she doesn't even have boys who visit her. All she does is go out in the evening almost every two days and return home at the odd hour of the night. And Friday night is sure for her to go out.
Noami can't even tell if Kristen works or not because she is always at home.
"Nothing really, I came to have breakfast with you. I brought breakfast if you don't mind"
She said and that's when Kristen saw the basket with her. Kristen scanned her and smirked, this neighbor of hers looks holier than thou because of the long dress she was putting in. You Could mistake her for a nun.
"Come in," Kristen muttered then turned her back on Noami and started walking inside.
Noami followed her. As Kristen walked into the room she came out from, Noami expected to see her room or sorts but was surprised to see a dining room Instead.
"You have a weird taste."
Noami said and Kristen smirked, "that's right. I am a weird lady so everything about me should be weird."
"I see, I just…" her throat contracted as she could not find the right word to express how she was feeling about Kristen. Kristen, who listened blindly, was waiting to hear what her neighbor wanted to say and when it looked like she had nothing to say, Kristen shook her head.
"I don't know but I am no different from every lady out there. I just chose to be this way."
Kristen said as she stepped into the living room,
"By the way, you are welcome to my home."
"Thank you, Kristen, your place is weird and nice. I must say I like it and I might like you too. No offense, I just have to be honest with you. Living a year without doing more than hey and hi with you leaves me with no choice but to judge you wrongly. I had tried several times to get closer to you but I never succeeded. I am surprised you were allowed to come inside contrary to what I had thought."
Kristen flicked her tongue against her mouth and smiled,
"Take a seat. Before you judge someone, attempt to know the person."
Noami sat down and scanned the place,
"I am sorry about that."
She said and placed the basket on the floor.
"I see you are already having breakfast. What should we do about mine?"
"I don't know, I didn't know someone was going to bring me breakfast."
Kristen said casually as she finished her Choco.
She was back in her position on the floor. Noami was not offended by Kristen's unbothered attitude. She has met different people of different characters and has learned to live by what she sees but one thing she never stops doing is judging people wrongly. If there is a way she can, she could have stopped a long time again.
"Now that I have brought it, you don't expect me to take it back with me. Gifts can't be rejected"
Kristen found what Noami said amusingly. She never heard that food is given to people as gifts or maybe, she doesn't know because she lives in a different world.
"I tell you, my dear, this one is going back with you or I could help you get a plate from my kitchen so you can serve yourself"
Kristen said and stood up, packed up her breakfast tray, and waggled her buttocks as she left the living room, leaving Noami shocked.
Chapter 9
"Ladies of these days have no shame, I know I swear not to judge her wrongly but then this attitude of hers is not good at all. She should at least cover up and behave decently at all times whether at home or not,"
Naomi soliloquized in Kristen's absence.
The couch felt so hot for her because to her, being there was kind of associating with the lady Kristen is.
Nothing is holding her from leaving the house, she chooses to be rooted there and in her mind, condemning the poor girl.
Kristen, if gets to know what is running through her neighbor's mind, would not bother because people's opinions don't matter to her anymore.
She is living her life for herself, not for anyone and it entirely gives her peace of mind to know that people talk about her behind her back and when she gets to hear, she pretends as if she doesn't hear.
Not everyone can do this but she does it effortlessly and that makes her a queen of her own world.
Kristen returned with a flat breakable plate and cutleries, she is damn funny. When she was picking the cutleries, she had told herself she has no time to start going on an errand for a neighbor who obviously doesn't like her because of how she feels about her.
"Here is a plate and cutleries, suit yourself"
Noami stared at Kristen and after a while stood up,
"You know what, I changed my mind. Since you are not eating with me. I better go home and eat, thanks for having me here."
Kristen rolled her eyes and hissed silently,
What's the essence of her coming here if she wasn't going to stay longer?
"You know your way out, please make use of the door"
Kristen said nonchalantly and lay on the couch after dropping the plate and the cutleries on her center table.
Noami was astonished by Kristen's change of attitude.
She felt like beating Kristen's senses back to her head.
Noami loosed her stiff shoulders, picked up her basket, and with a last glance at Kristen, she found her way out of the weird apartment.
Kristen flicked her eyes open and turned on her belly, not minding that the main door is not locked, she went to sleep with nothing on her mind.
*******
Frederick picked up his phone and keys then headed out of his apartment with a bored look on his face, he locked up his apartment.
He has been bored since morning, a boring Saturday morning has never been his idea Saturday morning.
He could hang out with the boys but then something changed about him since last night, he would rather be with someone else than anyone else. She has occupied his mind for the rest of the morning and he has been restless since.
The only meaningful thing he ever did was to prepare breakfast for himself.
With a deep sigh and grimace on his face, he pulled his Black Royce to life and left his driveway.
He had saved Kristen's digits and through Google Maps and GPS, he had gotten his location and was surprised to find her living at such a location but then she is a strange girl who could only be associated with strangeness.
Standing at the front of the small apartment, he scanned around and found a lady in a black dress disdainfully staring at him. She had this look of disgust and he wondered what would make her stare at him like that.
"What's her problem, did she wake up on the wrong side of the bed this morning?"
Frederick wondered and shook off the thought of his head. He should not be bothered by a mere look from a total stranger. He is here to see someone not to be bothered by whoever the lady is.
He brought his hand up and knocked at the door, expecting the door to open any moment. The GPS connection has stated that Kristen is at home so she should open the door ASAP.
"Hello"
Frederick turned and saw the lady who nearly murdered him with her eyes, dotting from him to the door.
"Hi"
He greeted her politely with a smile on his face, the least he could do for her is to be polite.
"Are you a friend to the lady who owns this apartment?"
She asked in an accusing manner. The way she said the lady sounded like it was a plague for her to mention her.
"I asked because if you are then you are in for doom. Since I have known her, she has no one visiting her and she behaves so shamelessly"
She paused and watched the young handsome man standing in her front to know if what she is saying is sinking into him then continued,
"If you see what she wears, my dear, you will flee from her because she is the real definition of temptation."
"Is she nuts in her head or what, why will she be spitting nonsense about someone? Who gives her the right to judge a fellow girl"
Frederick fumes in his mind. He is trying everything possible to restrain himself from slapping the lady who seems to have no regard for humanity.
"I am telling you all this because I can't watch a fine man like you go astray. We have decent girls in town whom you can be friends with, not a loose girl like Kristen. I am…"
"Hold on, ma'am. I am not interested in who you are"
Frederick had her cut short of introducing who she is, his control was snapping and if care is not taken, he might end up doing what he would regret later.
"Have you taken a good look at yourself, why say ill of someone? Do you realize that people like you should not live among us? This girl in question is your neighbor, if you feel she is doing the wrong way, why don't you call her and tell her to her face instead of tarnishing her image like this"
