Chapter 1
Mackenzie's Point of View
"Why did they come to us instead of any of the other packs that they could have visited?" However, why is this the case? During the time that we were standing in front of the home waiting for the alpha and the luna, I asked the question.
As I looked around and saw my folks seated in a sombre manner, the atmosphere inside my pack took on an oddly unsettling quality.
"That is a reasonable question, but because we don't know what treaty this was about, we should at least hear what they had to say about it," my father said. My father had a worried look in his eyes as he clenched his grip on my hand.
When I gazed at my father, I wondered whether I would be like him if I had finally found my mate and taken my place as the leader of this pack if I had finally found my partner. Unafraid, honorable, powerful, and trustworthy character traits.
Physically? He was enormous; not only was he tall, but he was composed entirely of muscle. The mere sight of him might send other werewolves running for cover.
"I'm not sure, Harrison. The more I think about it, the more uneasy I am." My mother mumbled something to us. I could see the strain on my mother's face, and it concerned me. Her stunning appearance betrayed the anxiety and concern that she was experiencing.
She was always a reassuring presence for my dad, and she was his equal in terms of strength and knowledge. When I first started looking for a partner, a part of me wished that we would be similar to how my parents were.
As the automobile carrying our guests came up in front of our house, my mother and father immediately straightened their posture. On the other hand, I did what we always did when other packs came into our territory and stayed close behind them.
It was designed to convey the idea that I was not yet at their level, but that we worked together as a unit.
My father addressed Alpha Nathan and Luna Martha with respect before shaking their hands like regular humans do. He added, "Welcome to our domain, Alpha Nathan and Luna Martha."
They were said to have originated in London and had a position of authority over the vast majority of the werewolf population in the United Kingdom, elevating them to a higher status than my own parents.
Both Joanna and Rebecca, who served as the group's beta and gamma, were present. This was something I had never heard of before, and it puzzled me because the pack in question featured two females in positions of second and third in command. In most packs, the roles of beta and gamma are often held by males.
For whatever reason, their traditions were completely foreign to me, and as a result, I paid them very little attention. After they had finished shaking hands and introducing themselves to one another, my mother extended an invitation for them to come inside.
Because I wasn't permitted to stay and listen to business things just yet, I made a polite excuse for myself and intended to head up to my room. I apologize for the inconvenience.
However, before I went, I noticed that both Alpha Nathan and Luna Martha were staring at me. They were both wearing moon faces.
The way they looked at me made my spine tingle all the way down. It appeared as though they were interested in me, but not in a positive way. They appeared to know something about me, and it was something that gave me uneasy feelings.
They appeared to be mentally connecting with one another, and it was clear that they were discussing me. Even though they weren't gazing at me, the intensity of their gaze was so strong that I was unable to move my feet. I had the sensation that the ground below me was about to consume me entirely.
Luna Martha made my dad smile when she called me his "very lovely daughter."
"There is no question that she is beautiful." My dad's eyes were on me at that moment. He said that while giving me the greatest smile he could muster.
Alpha Nathan enquired, "May I question as to her age?"
My father reaffirmed, in a terse manner, that "she is just eighteen years old."
"Wonderful," Luna Martha exclaimed. Her appearance suddenly brightened up.
I briefly looked down at myself while experiencing a momentary bout of mild anxiety on the inside.
While she was speaking, she had a smile on her face, but it didn't reach her eyes. At that moment, she gave off the impression of being exquisitely beautiful, but there was something ominous about the way she handled herself.
"Mackenzie, you can go now," my mother remarked. Her face was clearly displaying signs of concern at that moment. My mother was not very skilled at concealing the feelings she was experiencing.
Observing my parents act in such a strange manner was really confusing to me. They never displayed any signs of nervousness in my presence, and I never saw them seem nervous.
They were unable to be relied on in any way.
When Kingston, my inner wolf, scoffed, I had no choice but to believe what she had to say. Both of us were acutely aware of the intense tension that pervaded the environment.
I knew that my parents wouldn't agree with me if I asked them to let me stay with them, so instead of pleading with them, I just dropped my head and walked out the door. I wanted to stay with them even though I wouldn't be of any help.
My mother smiled one final time as I passed over the doorway of the house. After that, she told me that she loved me and then slowly closed the door.
When the door finally shut, I became aware that Alpha Nathan and Luna Martha were staring at me with a smothering look, and I immediately turned my attention in their way.
As I open the door to go outdoors, the breeze strikes my face, and I take a few deep breaths in preparation to be swallowed by the overpowering, menacing smell they give off.
When I turned to look at what was going on, I saw that Alpha Nathan, along with his beta and gamma, Joanna and Rebecca, were fighting to the death with my parents through a large hole in the wall. When I turned to look at what was going on, I saw that the alpha Nathan was helping his beta and gamma.
My mother immediately tackled Luna Martha after my father had fallen to the ground and stopped breathing after he had been injured.
My mother was attempting to escape when she was caught by the ankle by the beta's hand. I tried to swing my arm and hit the gamma, but he wrapped his arm around my neck and prevented me from doing so. My mother was the last person I saw alive; she was laying motionless on the ground, and I knew in that instant that she had passed away.
They cut my parents' hearts out of their chests and beheaded them while laughing and making fun of those who pleaded for their lives to spare them.
They were not allowed to do the same thing for me since they wanted me for their sons, but they were allowed to test my capabilities, whatever that may have meant.
My mom had the right idea. They ought not to have let those people enter, but by that point it was too late, and no one could have anticipated this happening.
They had more power than all of us put together. We weren't going to have much of a shot at winning.
When I was the sole survivor left, they offered me the opportunity to escape, but then they went for me nonetheless.
"Mackenzie, pull yourself together," the doctor told her. We have no choice but to fucking run!'
I heard Kingston yelling from deep within of me, and I obeyed her commands. I allowed her to take charge of the situation.
We didn't get very far because they caught up to us before I could even step outside the boundaries of our territory. I served as both their prey and their sport for them.
A needle was suddenly inserted into the back of my neck as I struggled, causing a great deal of discomfort. In spite of my best efforts to keep them open, my eyelids started to droop, and I could feel the muscles in my limbs becoming weak and unresponsive.
I am aware that I am still conscious, despite the fact that everything around me seems hazy and dreamlike. If I could do anything, it would be to pray that this effect goes away quickly.
My soul died.
Chapter 2
Nathaniel's Point of View
I kept a tight eye on Mackenzie as she slept while I sat in the chair that faced her bed. She remained unconscious and had several bruises. Her eyes and lips were swollen and a deep purplish color as she looked in the mirror. I was at a loss for words regarding how I felt about her.
She was already one of our prisoners, but she was going to be the one and only slave we kept. My brothers, fortunately for her, did not permit any of the male pack members to have their way with her and stopped them from doing so when they attempted to do so. All of the female members of this pack were subjected to sexual harassment and assault at the hands of the male members of our pack, who also engaged in abusive behavior toward them. When it came to Mackenzie, though, things were handled very differently.
The eldest of our brothers, Declan, issued a threatening statement to anyone who dared to touch her, saying that they would be put to death.
He did not provide any additional justification and instead simply stated that she was not available for him to pursue. After that, I had the dawning realization that she was about to cause a commotion very soon. I couldn't shake the feeling that this lady would stir up trouble for our group if she were here.
In the past, if we went on an expedition and brought back a slave, we would take turns trading places with that slave whenever we grew bored.
It was a cruel and inhumane manner for us to give the others "a bone" before they passed away. After some time had passed, it was time to start looking for a new slave.
I couldn't care less. It doesn't bother me in the least if other guys, especially these specific ones, get a taste of our slave. In fact, I welcome it. My feelings toward her were nothing but contemptuous from the minute I first lay eyes on her. When I initially came into contact with her, I had a sudden onslaught of wrath.
I started cursing her as soon as I realized that my inner wolf, Hudson, had a different reaction to her than I was expecting. What Hudson had shared with me about her was so amazing that I had a hard time believing it myself.
-Flashback-
As soon as I heard the mayhem, I said under my breath, "Here we fucking go again." When we were on the quest for a new "pseudo-mate," we never went inside the territory of any pack; instead, we waited outside its limits.
After the Moon Goddess had cursed us, my parents continued what they believed to be an important ritual, despite the fact that it was messed up.
They would swiftly send my brothers and me away whenever we asked them why we were supposed to be cursed, so we were never informed of the reason why we were supposed to be cursed. As a direct consequence of this, we stopped asking questions and eventually began cooperating with whatever it was that they required of us.
What did it all signify in terms of this curse, and how did it come about? It was foretold that neither of us would ever experience real love nor be able to have children of our own.
The rest of my family placed a lot of importance on it, but it didn't really matter to me at all.
My parents had an obsessive obsession with having children of pure blood and then rearing those children in the right way. They had the intention of carrying on the alpha and luna bloodlines so that our pack would continue to be a formidable force.
My failure to meet the requirements of society has prevented me from ever having a romantic relationship or being able to have children.
It seemed to me like a flaw that had been introduced into the werewolf race by the Moon Goddess, and that was the same reason that my parents developed this macabre ritual in the first place: to break the curse. To me, it seemed as though the Moon Goddess had introduced the flaw into the werewolf race.
We would go on a new journey each year with the goal of finding new packs that had daughters as their firstborn offspring and living in a variety of different areas. On the other hand, she should be the product of an authentic alpha and a luna.
It will need a lot of packs in order to fulfill the standards of my parents. Greedy people are the only ones who would act in such a way. As a result, whenever my parents weren't successful in getting their way, they resorted to using force to obtain what they wanted, just as they do now. This continued even after they had children of their own.
"Do you imagine she'll be more lovely than the woman who came before her?" Finley, who is the youngest of us, questioned it.
"Is there a difference that it makes?" I muttered under my breath, "We're all just going to screw her till she dies," which caused him to feel let down.
"Sure, sure. However, if they weren't at least attractive to look at, I'd rather fuck someone who was attractive than someone who wasn't."
He did make a good point, but I didn't give a damn about it. After the fifty-fifth girl, I had reached the point where I was so fed up with these techniques that I didn't want to put even the tip of my dick into any woman any longer.
I only did it because I was forced to in order to satisfy a ridiculous requirement.
This was the one hundredth girl, and I've decided that rather than take part in this insanity, I'd rather go home or hunt a bear.
Declan stated, "She's going to show up."
Our attention was pulled to a young female wolf that was desperately trying to escape from our troops.
She was quick, there was no doubt about that, but not quick enough to outpace even the most sluggish of our fighters. She had no more good fortune.
Almost immediately after that, one of our warriors tackled her to the ground and bit the back of her neck to subdue her before anyone else could stop him from doing so.
She groaned and whined as she attempted to extricate herself from his clutches, but it was clear that she had reached her physical and mental breaking point. The fact that there was blood all over her light gray fur provided strong evidence that she had also been the victim of serious physical abuse.
Because we were there, we saw her fight, pass out, and eventually turn into a human being despite everything she went through.
"Enough!" Declan let out a roar as the warrior continued to make an attempt to bite down on her while she lay almost unconscious on the ground.
The cretinous moron was not hired for the position. Finley laughed and said, "We're not supposed to murder her on the first day; we're supposed to keep her alive."
"Go grab her, Nathaniel," Declan replied.
I rolled my eyes, crossed my arms over my chest, and approached the young she-wolf with an air of hesitation that I was unable to place my finger on.
I crouched down next to her before lifting her over my shoulders, but as soon as her skin made contact with mine, her scent bombarded my senses. I tried to ignore it at first, but eventually I gave in. After that, I hoisted her up onto my shoulders and held her there. After I had finally given her permission to drop to the earth, I became utterly still.
I came to a complete halt in my motions. Her blood had a peculiar look that was much more recognizable than its distinctive odor. My heart started racing as soon as I felt the sensation of her skin against mine. It was something I just couldn't get enough of. It was so unique in comparison to everything else that I had encountered that I instantly felt the agitation of my wild nature.
Mate! Both yours and mine.
Hudson hissed, but I quickly reassured him that it was not possible owing to the curse.
Before I could even begin to comprehend what had taken place, Finley had already arrived.
"Wait, what the hell is going on? I said, "Don't break her yet," He laughed, obviously amused by the way that I responded to her.
He was always able to see the humorous side of every situation, even when he wasn't supposed to.
Declan's repeated command to "Pick her up" caused me to become infuriated.
I had no desire to touch her or inhale her scent once more. The use of the word mate in Hudson culture irritated me. As a direct consequence of this, I glared icily at Declan.
"You effing take her," he said.
Declan took a step toward me and met the intensity of my gaze as we drew even closer together.
Both he and I were aware that the other one of us was not going to back down, so we faced each other while waiting to see who would throw the opening blow in the fight.
Before I could give Declan a blow to the head, Finley uttered the word "Woah."
"What?" Declan pushed me aside so he could pass, and his question was the single thing that made me want to snap his neck more than anything else.
Finley's statement caused me to stare down at the she-wolf once again after it caused me to look at her fragrance. "Aspen enjoyed her scent," Finley added. It was hard for me to imagine that his inner wolf had the same emotions as mine.
When Finley took her wrist and brought it up to his nose, he got the same look that I did when I smelled her, and I knew that meant he felt it too. I knew he felt it because we had the same expression.
What in the name of everything that is holy was going on? What makes this female stand out from the rest?
Chapter 3
Mackenzie's Point of View
When I came to my senses after what seemed like an eternity, everything around me appeared to have a foggy quality.
I was in such severe discomfort that every time I moved, even if it was only for a brief period of time, I hissed and moaned in agony.
"Wake the hell up, you sleepyhead!"
As Kingston raged all around me, I had a hard time opening my eyes.
After I had finally been successful in opening my eyes, it took me some time before I was able to focus on the things that were going on around me.
And when I could finally make out what was going on, I was startled to find that I had moved to a different room.
I looked down at my body and observed that the only thing I was wearing was a pair of matching black underwear that was quite thin. I also became aware that several of the cuts and bruises I had sustained looked to be healing at a glacial pace.
What the living hell is going on?
I was in such a state of terror and disorientation that I rapidly attempted to sit up, but I was yanked down down again.
When I looked down at my outstretched arms, I saw that I was chained to the bed I was lying on. I immediately became aware of my predicament.
Shit! Just what is this, exactly?
I pulled as hard as I could, but the chain's bite on my skin only made me whimper. I tried to get free by tugging as hard as I could. I made an effort to disengage myself from the chain.
When I pulled, it seemed like someone was applying fire to my wrists, and the pain was so intense that I couldn't continue. It seemed as if some kind of acid had been added to the chains.
In a normal circumstance, if I pushed hard enough, I would be able to break these shackles. However, I did not feel strong at all, so all I could do was scream for help. In a normal circumstance, if I worked hard enough, I would be able to break these chains.
Nobody is going to come to our rescue. They were successful in killing everyone, right?' Kingston provided a gloomy explanation of the situation.
And it was at that time that the recollection of how my parents had passed away came back to torment me.
Simply thinking about them caused the discomfort I often feel in my chest. I really couldn't believe that they had passed away, especially considering how much they meant to me. They are no longer there.
I did not want to be brought back to any of that, but it was the truth that I needed to confront at this juncture.
I was suddenly struck with anguish and wrath, and as a response, I exerted every ounce of my power to pull on the shackles once more. I felt like I had no control over my emotions.
'Kingston, assist me. We have to take a different approach.
As I kept pulling, I stoked the fire of the wolf that resides within me.
I am putting forth an effort, yet there is something that is holding me back from being successful.
When I felt the scorching sensation for the second time, I managed to keep a muffled scream from escaping my mouth, but I did not stop pulling with all of my effort.
"If I were in your position, I would change my behavior immediately."
I was taken aback when I heard a harsh baritone voice, and because the only part of me that could move was my head, I looked around to identify who it was that had said that. I could only move my head at the time.
My attention was pulled to a man—no, another werewolf—and, and not just any old ordinary werewolf—lounging against the doorframe with his hands crossed and folded across his chest. The werewolf appeared to be in a very relaxed state.
And despite the fact that he gave the impression of being an angel and had a pleasant grin.
He was definitely lovely. His features were sculpted, and he had broad shoulders and biceps that rippled. If I ever touched his face, the angle of his jawline might easily cut my fingers.
Kingston and I were both under the assumption that he posed a threat in every conceivable way.
Even though he gave off the vibe of an alpha, I knew he hadn't quite made it to that level of leadership just yet.
"Look at me." His tone of voice was resonant and icy. I felt a shiver travel down my spine. I had to jerk my head to gaze at him in his full height.
When I finally brought my gaze to meet him, I found that the moment I did so, his eyes completely absorbed my attention and captivated me. Golden brown eyes with a penetrating ability that could penetrate everything.
Even while they weren't as weighty as that, they still managed to pack a significant amount of authority and depth.
The neatness of his mid-fade hairstyle contributed to the overall appeal of his manliness.
He had a physique that was so impressive that even Zeus would be embarrassed by it. He was extremely tall and possessed gigantic muscles.
In my opinion, the fact that he exuded air that was both frightening and comfortable at the same time is an especially risky mix. He gave off an aura.
"Who are you, and what exactly are you going to do with me?" I questioned while quaking and pulling on the chains once again, only to hear a hissing sound that indicated pain.
"Declan. You are aware that I cautioned you against acting in that manner." His only action was to react, after which he went on to proceed farther inside the room.
"Stay as far away from me as you possibly can!"
I offered a warning while striving to sound threatening in the process.
His eyes were devoid of any sign of emotion, but he wore a sneering grin on his face the entire time.
I jerked away out of reaction, but the pain surged back through my wrists and ankles the second I stopped moving. After that, all of a sudden, I became conscious of the fact that shackles even restrained my legs.
As he pulled me back into place, he gingerly stretched both hands and reached out to grab my calves, taking care not to touch the chains in the process.
He continued to keep his hands on my legs as he repeatedly scratched and grazed each bruise and cut with his fingers. I wanted to kick him or jerk away, but the feel of his hands rendered me helpless to take any action. I had the inclination to do either of those things.
As I focused my attention on him, I couldn't help but feel apprehensive because I had no idea what he would do next. I didn't want him to touch me anymore, but I didn't know how to tell him that without making things awkward between us.
"What is the nature of that odor?" Kingston abruptly asked.
But we made the conscious decision not to acknowledge her, listen to what she had to say, or pay attention to what we were smelling and instead opted to ignore her. Both his acts and my reaction to them left me absolutely perplexed and enthralled at the same time.
"Wolfsbane. Wolfsbane was used to covering the chains and soaking them in the substance as well "he remarked before turning his icy eyes to meet mine and my audience's fearful expressions.
Fuck! No surprise, we feel weak and not healing.
After that, he murmured in a hushed tone while making his pledge, "I won't harm you."
The manner in which he communicated with me was calming, somewhat resembling a lullaby or a narcotic that caused one to feel dizzy and lightheaded.
I had the option of saying, "I—I don't believe you," before finally mustering up the strength to jerk my legs in the hopes that he would get the idea.
On the other hand, it was obvious that he wouldn't go through with it. Because before he removed them, he lightly ran them up to my thighs as if he couldn't stop himself and then removed them. This indicates that he is unable to control himself.
"You are using sound discretion by deciding not to believe what I have to say. If you weren't quite so willing to believe any one of us, it would be helpful "I was taken aback when he talked to me in a whispered tone before flashing his friendly smile in my direction, which completely caught me off guard.
