Chapter 2

Julie deserved every bit of it.

To avoid trouble, I specifically looked for a place several kilometers away in another district. Luckily, I found a suitable one quite quickly.

Just as I was about to go see the apartment, there was a loud banging on the door, followed by Julie's crying.

"Alyssa, open the door, please!"

She was clever. Since I wasn't answering her calls, she came straight over.

I initially planned to stay silent, waiting for her to tire herself out and leave on her own. But then I remembered how she abandoned me in my previous life and smeared my name after I died. I couldn't swallow that bitterness.

Raising an eyebrow, I came up with a brilliant idea.

Julie was most afraid of Daniel. If Daniel knew that Julie had run away, he would undoubtedly try to find her.

If Daniel knew how Julie, who acted so obedient and meek in front of him, badmouthed him behind his back, his hatred for me in the past life would surely transfer to her.

That was the way to go.

With this thought in mind, I took out my phone and dialed Daniel's number from memory, putting the call on speaker and tossing the phone onto the bed.

Julie liked to badmouth me to please Daniel, so I would let him hear exactly how she insulted him in front of me.

Ensuring the call was connected, I got up and opened the door.

Just like in my past life, Julie was beaten so badly by Daniel that her face was covered in blood. The implant in her nose was askew, and she had lost two teeth. It was a shocking sight.

Not just me, but any decent woman would strongly advise breaking up after seeing her friend beaten like this.

But not every woman deserved to be called a friend.

I felt a sense of satisfaction, biting my lip to refrain from laughing. My face twisted into an unnatural expression.

"What happened?" I asked

"That lunatic Daniel beat me!" Julie replied.

She threw herself into my arms, crying bitterly, "Alyssa, Daniel is a beast. Whenever he drinks, he beats me, leaving no part of my body unscathed. I want to break up with him!"

The scene was exactly like my past life. Julie waited eagerly for me to advise her to break up and then take her in. Unfortunately, I wasn't falling for it this time.

"Couples always have conflicts. Even if Daniel got emotional and hit you a few times, it takes two to tango. Can you honestly say you didn't contribute to the problem at all?" I said calmly.

Julie never dreamed I would say such a thing. She was shocked into silence.

She stared at me, wide-eyed, soon becoming hysterical. "Alyssa, are you even my friend? That bastard Daniel beat me like this, and you're advising me to stay with him?"

"Couples always have conflicts. Daniel usually treats you well. You can't handle a few slaps? How heartbroken will he be if he finds out?" I sighed.

I took the opportunity to put some distance between myself and the filthy, smelly Julie. Then I continued my seemingly heartfelt advice.

"Beating is a form of love, and scolding is a form of affection. Why do you think Daniel beats you and not someone else? Because he values you. You should be gentler and more considerate in the future. Don't provoke him, understand?"

Perhaps my twisted logic once again blew Julie's mind. She stood there in stunned silence for quite a while before I patted her shoulder and said, "Alright, hurry back and apologize to Daniel. Running away after every argument is ridiculous!"

Since she liked being beaten by Daniel, she should go back and take it.

"Alyssa, I..." she tried to argue.

"Go back. Don't make Daniel angry in this hot weather!" I said.

Without giving her another chance to complain, I pushed her out the door.

Returning to the bed, I saw that the phone call had already ended.

But I was confident that our conversation had reached Daniel's ears.

I wondered how Daniel would deal with Julie. It promised to be quite a show.

To ensure Julie didn't cling to me again, I grabbed my bag and went out to check on the new apartment.

The house matched the online photos almost perfectly. After checking out the surrounding environment, I was very satisfied. Even though the price was a bit high, I paid the deposit immediately.

Based on my understanding of Daniel, the things he had heard would be enough for him to beat Julie several times. Julie wouldn't be able to take it and would likely come looking for me again.

I should steer away from rotten people like them as much as I could.

As for revenge?

I would not bother taking matters into my own hands.

It was only a matter of time before Daniel would beat Julie to death. Then he wouldn't escape legal punishment.

I'd like to watch them fight each other.

After signing the rental contract, I hired two movers. First, they could move my things quickly. Second, in case the pervert Daniel showed up, there would be someone to protect me from harm.

Soon, the three of us drove back to my rented place. I thought everything would go smoothly, but as soon as we got off the elevator, I saw Julie crouching at my door, covering her face.

Hearing the noise, Julie lifted her head abruptly and rushed toward me. "Alyssa, that bastard Daniel beat me again. I can't take it anymore. I must break up with him!"

That was none of my business, but this jinx was trying to cling to me.

The fury in my chest almost burst.

I took several deep breaths to calm down and said sternly, "How many times have I told you? Girls shouldn't be so unreasonable. Daniel provides for you, so what if he hits you a few times? He didn't kill you!"

Daniel was a typical sociopath. He had long installed a monitoring chip in Julie's phone to track her every move.

He would surely hear these words.

If I dared to suggest Julie leave him, Daniel would come at me with a knife, just like in my past life.

In his mind, Julie was his private property. Anyone who helped her escape was coveting his property.

He would not allow that.

Julie couldn't believe I said that. Her swollen eyes widened, and it took a while before she found her voice, angrily saying, "Alyssa, how can you just sit by? Are you my friend or Daniel's friend?"

"Julie, your words sadden me. We've been friends for so many years. How could I harm you?" I said.

To make Julie leave quickly and not delay my moving, I sighed and said, "Couples won't really hold grudges against each other. I'll call Daniel to pick you up."

In this city, I was Julie's only friend. After being beaten, she always came to me.

I hadn't taken her in earlier and had sent her back. Now she had run out again, and Daniel had likely followed her. It wouldn't be long before he arrived.

Julie shuddered at the mention of Daniel.

She knew very well that if she fell into Daniel's hands again so soon, she would suffer an even more severe beating.

"No! I don't want to see him!" Julie shouted instinctively.

But it was too late. I had already dialed Daniel's number.

Julie instinctively tried to stop me. But I was prepared and dodged, putting the call on speaker.
