Chapter 3
Elaine's Pov...
Isabelle actually has everything! She is always an A student, beautiful, and a muse, while I am a dumb friend following her around.
I had a perfect, beautiful body that caught everyone's eyes, including Jonathan's attention, but my body wasn't enough. He also needed a brain, and that's what Isabelle was capable of.
While he was going to their company, I helped him finish his tasks regularly with the help of Isabelle and even used her to write perfect lines to capture his heart.
Bumping into him before wasn't an accident, it was planned in an accidental way.
I'm really happy that I want to tell Isabelle everything about how he courted me, but she is always busy. I walked towards our faculty to see her before graduation, when I saw her talking to my boyfriend. I feel jealous looking at them, happily talking to each other. Denzel laughed and even touched Isabelle's shoulder. When his friend he even opened the can and gave it to her.
This is not the sight I wanted to see after successfully being his woman.
My jealousy is eating me up because I know she is capable of stealing him away from me. She has everything Denzel wants. She does not provocatively wear clothes, but when she does, everyone will stop and look at her.
I'm an heiress too, but not like hers. For both of us, she is heaven, and I'm just down here forcing myself to reach heaven.
After buying a couple of sandwiches, I walk towards them clenching my fist, but I know how to turn those smiles into none.
"Hi babe!" I exclaimed, standing in between them before giving each one a sandwich. It could be better if what she has had a little poison.
A pinch will not kill her!
"Hi, babe!" Denzel greeted, pulling me into his lap. I saw her swallow hard before looking somewhere else and drinking all her drinks before looking at me.
"Hi Isa!" I said with an innocent smile, pretending I didn't know what she felt.
"Hi Elaine. Glad you came." She smiled but didn't reach her ears.
"I'm not sure if I can see you tomorrow. My brother has just arrived." She uttered. I panicked when she talked about her brother. Denzel must not know who his brother was.
"Oh! Then we should celebrate today. Is it okay with you babe?" I asked Denzel to change the topic.
"Sure!" He responded. My heart immediately calmed!
We were enjoying our food when Denzel decided to help Isabelle peel her shrimp and serve her some baked mussels. I'm jealous enough, biting my lips watching them. His friend saw my controlled reaction and he helped Isabelle instead, but my heart started to get nervous.
"Thank you!" Isabelle gestured before digging her food again.
Suggesting to eat together, I guess, was a huge mistake I made. I thought that if Denzel were my boyfriend, Isabelle would feel what I felt, but it seemed not. Denzel started to become close to her and started enjoying her company.
The next morning came our graduation, and it was supposed to be the happiest day of my life, like it hit the freedom button, yet I felt dread for something I didn't know. This gnawing feeling that is bothering me is kind of something I shouldn't ignore. Every time it passes, it feels terrifying and I'm holding my breath.
I looked around, finding Denzel but my eyes bulged, almost popping in their own, stunned when I saw his family talking to Isabelle sweetly. His father even holds her hands as they exchange words. It seems they are talking about something relevant as they exchange smiles, likewise with his mother. They even help her fix her toga. They look like a happy family thrown in this crowd to make us envious!
Did she get the upper hand already? Why am I always late? Is it because she is a Brook?
I bit my lips and tied my tongue, watching them. I can't show dishonor right now. There is always the right time to intervene, to not look like a villain.
It's yours at the moment, but I'll take mine soon, as her knight!
We are already seated, enjoying ourselves as everyone is getting their diplomas. I glance at her who is just four seats away from me. She exudes excellent posture and beauty, illuminating the crowd even if she hasn't spoken yet or smiled.
She was my best friend but I was jealous of everything she had.
I am not poor, but I am one of the people who can't get what I want without bribing or cheating, while she has everything, even if she hasn't tried anything yet.
It's unfair to those people who are trying their best. I'm scared that Denzel might see something in her. I have to stop him from finding the beauty inside her. It doesn't matter if he will learn that Isabelle is the face and heir of Felicity beside the Brook's businesses.
I managed to get away from her family's sight until the graduation was done. When she received her award as cumlaude, everyone cheered. I managed to sneak out after I got my diploma, didn't wait for her speech 'coz I know it would be outstanding and envious.
I was almost near Denzel's family to congratulate him and give my present after the graduation photo ops when I saw him fuming in anger, throwing his toga and his diploma, likewise with his family. They are furious, restraining him, shoving him inside their car without looking back before their car speeds up, almost flying to leave.
I'm still shocked watching their car leave when I heard people murmuring and talking about him. Curiosity piqued me, walking towards the crowd when I saw what they were talking about.
My mouth was literally opened wide, stunned. It was the three-year-old video that vanished away from the media in seconds.
I'm still shocked, glued to where I am when I locked eyes with Isabelle wide-eyed and mouth agape, shocked.
