Chapter 3
Just as Jasper was about to refuse, I helped him reply, "Don't worry, I'll send him over right away."
After hanging up the phone, Jasper wiped the water on my body while pretending to be in a dilemma, asking me, "Why do you let me go? You've never liked her. Her crazy always causes trouble late at night. I'm afraid I will wake you up when I come back."
I helped him put down his rolled-up sleeves and said understandingly, "She looks so sad. I don't want anything to happen to her. I knew what was more important. Since she called you, just go and take a look."
"But you used to—" Jasper was about to say something, but I interrupted him.
I explained that I had to learn to accept his friends because I loved him. "She's been your friend for years. The road is slippery on a snowy night. I'm worried about your safety. If she wants to make trouble, you just accompany her."
He was very satisfied with my answer, even a little smug.
In the end, I personally took Jasper to the entrance of Shirley's house. He stood by the road and waved goodbye to me reluctantly.
I gave him a heart sign and drove to the Sunset Bar.
When I got home, it was already 10 o'clock the next morning and Jasper hadn't come back yet.
When I finished taking a shower and was ready to take a nap, Jasper was back with takeout.
Jasper said, "I knew you were not awake yet. I packed some food in your favorite restaurant. I waited in line for over an hour. Come and get them."
I was indeed a little hungry, so I got up and sat at the dining table.
Jasper organized the packaging boxes, crumpled a paper, and threw it into the trash can.
But he didn't know that I had already known what the paper was when he went to get the cutlery. That was a delivery order showing the same food was delivered to Shirley's house.
I lowered my head and ate my food, casually asking him, "How is she?"
Jasper complained with a disgusted look on his face. "You can't imagine how she tortured me. One moment she wanted to see the snow on the rooftop, the next she had a headache and wanted to vomit. Anyway, she exhausted me all night."
I looked at the uncovered hickey on his collar and nodded.
Jasper was right. I had no idea how much trouble Shirley caused, but he must have been so tired all night.
I touched my neck and was glad that I was wearing a turtleneck sweater.
In fact, in the past year, I have been using the excuse of taking care of my health to avoid having sex with him, so I'm not afraid that he discovered the hickeys on my neck.
Jasper not only complained about Shirley but also complained about me, "Why don't you call or message me all night? You were not worried about me being with another woman all night."
I said with some grievances, "Come on, I was so worried that I didn't sleep well all night. But you have claimed that you would never fall in love with her. I believe you and allow you to do what you want."
The more generous and obedient I became, the more often Shirley called him.
Even on our anniversary, she held Jasper's arm, sat next to him, and said, "Wendy, take a look at the gift. Do you like it? I helped Jasper choose it."
I looked at the gift box and knew what he sent was a bottle of perfume without opening it because every gift I received was perfume. I used to think he was an unromantic man who was not good at choosing gifts, but I finally realized that he didn't care at all.
I thanked him, took out the gift I prepared, and handed it to Jasper.
Chapter 4
When he found a pair of limited edition sneakers inside, which had been speculated to be 20,000 dollars per pair. He took my face in his hands and kissed me. "Wendy, you are so good to me. I will love you forever without leaving you."
I suppressed my thoughts and said expressionlessly, "What if I stop loving you before you leave?"
My words stunned Jasper and the atmosphere around us became tense. I suddenly burst into laughter and said, "Just kidding, let's enjoy our dinner first."
At this moment, I received a message and glanced at it before deleting it.
Recently, Jasper has been staying out late more and more often, and most of the time he just sent me a message to inform me that he would be working overtime.
Then the next day, he would buy me a small gift, and I would accept it without any doubt and remind him to take care of himself.
One day, he had a rare opportunity to stay at home but received a phone call and quickly ran downstairs.
When he came back, he brought a woman whom I had seen in photos. I knew she was Jasper's first love.
He kept more than 3,000 photos of this girl in his cloud storage. I had cried and asked him to delete them, but he scolded me for being petty.
"Wendy, let me introduce you to her. She's Yvonne Miller. She just came back from abroad and has nowhere to live, so she wants to live in our house for a few days." Although Jasper was discussing with me, I still sensed he was testing my bottom line and how much I would endure.
I smiled and took Yvonne's suitcase. "Don't be restrained. Have a seat."
Jasper was very satisfied with my reaction. After all, if he could have many lovers, it would be something he could show off to others.
"I told you that Wendy is generous. She'll be a good wife. Yvonne injured her waist while dancing, so let her sleep in bed. I can sleep in the study, and you may have to sleep on the sofa, but—"
"Hotel," I suddenly interrupted, and Jasper didn't react.
"Don't you agree?" Jasper asked. Yvonne beside me behaved so poorly as to bite her lip aggrievedly as if I bullied her.
I smiled and explained, "You're mistaken. It was me who went to live in the hotel. I can't sleep on the sofa because I'm a light sleeper. And I can't let her sleep there. So, Jasper, you can stay. Yvonne is a guest, and we can't both be absent."
Jasper couldn't suppress the smile at the corner of his mouth but still tried to frown and test me. "Wendy, are you angry? If you're not happy, I'll make her leave immediately. Don't think too much. I just help her as an ordinary friend."
I grasped his chin and comforted him. "I love you. I can do anything for you, I'm not angry."
Afterward, under their watchful eyes, I checked into the hotel. As soon as I entered the door, my lips were blocked by a man.
The man asked, "How long do you want me to wait? Your game should be over, hmm?"
"Wait a little longer, um..." I replied.
I didn't go back for a month, but Jasper came to the hotel to see me a few times.
I knew that he wanted me to move back because the rent was due soon.
I asked Jasper when Yvonne would leave, but he hesitated to say that Yvonne didn't mention it.
I didn't continue to ask him. "It's okay, just let her settle down."
One day, I received a call from Jasper's brother, saying that he had drunk too much and asked me to pick him up.
As soon as I walked into Jasper's private room, I saw him holding a large bouquet of roses.
He said, "Wendy, I have good news to tell you."
I looked at the expressions of the people around me, and his friends were cheering.
Shirley looked at us with reluctance on her face, and Yvonne had red eyes and was heartbroken.
I realized what was going on, so I thought for a moment and spoke up. "Oh? I also have something to tell you."
He excitedly told me that I would be very happy to hear it and made me allow him to say it first.
But I insisted on saying together to see who would be more surprised. He didn't even think about it and agreed.
"Let's get married!" Jasper said.
"I'm getting married," I spoke.
