Chapter 1
The maid's daughter used my family's villa and luxury car to flaunt her wealth and build a glamorous persona, becoming an online sensation as a supposed heiress.
When she smashed a precious keepsake my grandfather left me, I slapped her in anger. She turned this into evidence that I was bullying her, making me the target of online scorn.
She sold my family's antique collection to gain fame and fortune, donating the proceeds to earn praise as a saintly figure.
After her schemes were exposed, she cried and begged for forgiveness, and my soft-hearted parents let her go. But she manipulated her followers to accuse my family of corruption and embezzlement, causing my father's company's stock to plummet. The stress gave my father a fatal heart attack, and my mother was driven to madness.
As I tried to gather evidence to clear our name, I was relentlessly harassed by her fans. One day, an extremist fan pushed me onto the train tracks, killing me.
Even after her fake heiress status was revealed, her fans still adored her as a beautiful, kind-hearted influencer, praising her as an inspirational figure.
When I opened my eyes again, I found myself back in the year I had just returned from studying abroad.
I saw her on her livestream, showing off my family's villa, claiming it as her long-time home.
Does she want to use my family to flaunt her wealth and climb to fame? I'm going to make sure she ends up in prison!
——
"Thank you for the compliments, everyone. I've lived in this house for so long that I've grown attached to it. That's why I don't want to move. As for the brand of the furniture... I'm not sure because my parents bought it. I just get to use it. I'm such a scatterbrain, I know..." I was in the car on my way home, watching Polly Beck lounging on my custom-made sofa, playing with my teddy bear, and thanking her top donors for their gifts.
Seeing this familiar scene, I realized I had been reborn.
Her livestream was filled with compliments and praise from fans. Remembering how she ruined my life in my previous life, I wasn't about to let her off easily this time.
I remembered that tonight she was going to smash the vase my grandfather had made himself—the only thing he left me. I had to get home before she could destroy it.
But I was still too late.
When I arrived home, I saw the shattered pieces in my study, and there the culprit was, laughing in front of the camera.
"Oh no, I accidentally broke the vase. How scary!" Polly giggled into the camera.
I remembered how. In my previous life, I had rushed at her and slapped her, which led to countless netizens attacking me online, accusing me of bullying her—the "maid's daughter" who was supposedly staying at "her house".
Holding back my anger, I shouted, "Polly Beck, why are you always live streaming in my house? And you broke the vase my grandfather left me!"
My words startled Polly, and she quickly ended her livestream. I saw a flash of malice in her eyes.
Polly turned to me, annoyed. "Didn't you agree to let me livestream here? You said you'd help me start my career. My business is just getting started."
Her words reminded me of when her mother, Nancy, brought her to our house, saying her gambling father often abused her. Polly had dropped out of high school, and with her insufficient education, she couldn't find a job, so they begged us to let her stay until she found work.
I remembered how Polly had looked so humble, standing behind her mother. When my parents hesitated, she dropped to her knees, saying her father would marry her off to pay his debts if she returned, or she would starve on the streets. Seeing her so pitiful, my parents allowed her to stay.
Polly often told me about the abuse she suffered at home and how everyone looked down on her family. I felt sorry for her and tried to help. I bought her clothes and makeup and even let her livestream and make videos at our house.
I thought she just wanted a nice background for her content, so I didn't think much of it. It wasn't until later that I realized she was using our villa and luxury cars to flaunt her wealth, even claiming my parents were hers, saying their different last names were due to her taking a second cousin's surname. She built a fan base by pretending to be a rich heiress, promoting all kinds of dubious products for quick cash.
Now that she had gained many followers, her attitude toward my family had completely changed. She didn't apologize for breaking my grandfather's vase and instead laughed about it. I should never have helped her; she was now walking all over my family to enjoy her newfound fame.
"This vase was the only thing my grandfather left me, and now you've broken it. What are you going to do about it?" I said coldly. "And while I agreed to let you livestream here, I never said you could pretend this house was yours to show off and compete with others."
As I spoke, I carefully collected the vase's shards and put them in a box.
Polly was at a loss for words, her face turning ugly. With no valid excuse, she quickly played the victim. "Yes, yes... You rich people are amazing. We lower-class people shouldn't live in your house or be in your lives. We can't climb up to your level. You rich people just want to trample on us..."
I knew she was trying to play the same "poor me" card she always did whenever I was displeased with her, making me feel guilty and helpless, forcing me to reassure her I didn't look down on her family.
I sighed. "Since you feel that way, it seems you're uncomfortable living here. If you're so unhappy, then you should move out tomorrow. I don't want you to feel mistreated."
Ignoring her stunned expression, I turned and went back to my room.
Chapter 2
The next morning, as I lay in bed scrolling through my phone, I noticed Polly had posted a new update. She uploaded a new video claiming that her maid's daughter, who had been severely bullied at school, had suffered a mental breakdown. Out of pity, she let the girl stay at her house, which explained why the girl was in her livestream last night, scolding her.
I was shocked. Even in this life, without me slapping her, Polly still fabricated the story that I was a maid's daughter staying at her house. Reading the comments praising her beauty and kindness, I couldn't help but laugh.
I got up immediately. I had to see if Polly had packed her bags.
There was a knock on the door. When I opened it, I found Nancy, the real maid and her mother waiting anxiously. She rushed up to me as soon as she saw me.
"Miss, I'm sorry! Polly shouldn't have done that last night! I apologize on her behalf. Please don't kick her out. I beg you," Nancy whispered. As I broke free from her embrace, I noticed she was in tears while Polly filmed us with her phone.
"What are you recording?" I asked, stepping toward Polly. She quickly hid her phone.
"It's nothing. I was just curious. I wasn't recording," Polly said, tucking her phone away.
"Stay right there!" I was about to confront her when my mom's voice interrupted us.
"Vivian, did you say something harsh to Polly? Are you planning to kick her out?" Mom looked stern as she approached me.
Seeing my mom looking so vibrant reminded me of her distressed state in my previous life. I hesitated.
When I regained my composure, I saw my mom apologizing to Polly. "Vivian is immature. Don't take her seriously."
I knew I couldn't get Polly out of the house now. Even if I told Mom about her pretending to be a rich heiress and flaunting our wealth, Polly wouldn't face much punishment. So, I had to temporarily compromise.
I posted a video exposing Polly for using my family's mansion and luxury cars to fake being a rich heiress. I wouldn't let her keep accumulating fans and endorsements under this false pretense. The video caused a brief stir, but Polly didn't respond directly. Instead, her biggest fan, Freddy Scott, quickly came to her defense, posting a video of Nancy hugging me with the caption, "A mother working hard to earn money to treat her daughter's mental illness," set to a sentimental music background.
Public opinion shifted. The attacks turned toward me. Polly's fans accused me of being ungrateful, heartless, and a delusional wannabe. They praised Polly for her kindness, turning her into a beloved internet angel. Polly's fan base grew even larger.
Freddy Scott, her devoted fan, often contributed significantly to her streams. He used his influence to run a voice chat group, where he praised Polly's kindness in taking me in and providing for my treatment while I repaid her with ingratitude and slander. I joined the group with a dummy account, listening as Freddy passionately denounced me. Polly was there too, silent but not denying anything, enjoying the benefits of the situation. I had underestimated her cunning nature.
To my surprise, even Nancy created an account, posting photos of us together, with videos her daughter had taken, captioned, "No matter what, I'll always be her mother." I suspected Polly's idea behind this move. Nancy was willing to go to any lengths to make her daughter famous. Their bond was indeed touching.
Since Nancy was employed by my mom, I couldn't fire her directly. So, I showed my mom Nancy's videos.
"Nancy, what's going on?" My mom confronted her with the videos.
"I… I just meant that I treat Vivian like my own daughter. Madam, you've misunderstood me," Nancy stammered.
"But my real mom is still here. Why are you trying to take her place? Or do you want to replace her?" I provoked Mom's displeasure, aiming to get Nancy out sooner.
Mom's face turned grim.
"No, no! Absolutely not!" Nancy frantically shook her head. "Madam, you've misunderstood. I just meant that I care for Vivian like a daughter. I had no other intentions. I'll delete the videos right away. I'm sorry! I'm sorry!" Nancy dropped to her knees, pleading pitifully.
Seeing this, I knew my mom would forgive her.
As expected, Mom sighed and helped Nancy up. "Just delete the videos. They make Vivian uncomfortable, and I don't like them either."
"Okay, okay, I'll delete them now!" Nancy quickly grabbed her phone and deleted the videos.
Late at night, on my way to the bathroom, I heard voices outside my room. Out of curiosity, I followed the sound to Nancy and Polly's room.
"Why did you delete the videos? Why didn't you tell me? You could have smeared her! Now I look guilty!" Polly's voice was angry.
"If I didn't delete it, Madam would have fired me! Then we'd both be homeless! Do you want to go back to your gambler father?" Nancy retorted.
"Now the fans are doubting me!"
"You're meeting Mr. Bennett tomorrow, right? What's there to fear?"
"Shh, keep it down!"
Hearing their hushed voices, I quickly returned to my room.
In my previous life, Polly had posted a photo with my dad, captioned, "The person I respect the most," with a fatherly music background. It was vague enough to be believed but not sued for lying.
I had some business questions to ask my dad, so I decided to take this opportunity to see how Polly approached him.
In my previous life, I wanted to step out of my parents' shadow and build my own business, so I kept my relationship with them under wraps. As a result, many people didn't know who I was, which allowed Polly to steal my identity and become a social media star with millions of followers, making a fortune in the process.
Having been given a second chance, I decided to change my approach.
When I arrived at my father's company, the receptionist gave me a disdainful look. I didn't need to guess whose doing this was. Polly Beck, now a social media influencer with a million followers, had undoubtedly spread the word about how I supposedly bullied her.
When I asked to see my father, Steven Bennett, the receptionist pressed the security alarm button. "Sorry, without an appointment, I can't let you in."
