Chapter 2
Wendy was still confusing right and wrong, "It's just a fake degree certificate, why are you so nervous, who are you acting for?"
I couldn't stand it anymore and decided to expose her on the spot.
"You are acting! You can't speak French and you are afraid of being exposed by me, so you frame me as a liar, so that no one will believe what I say!"
"Do you dare to ask the program team to find a Frenchman on the spot? Speak French with him one-on-one and see who he says is real and who is fake!"
My hoarse voice shocked the audience and many people said that I didn't look like an actor and suggested to find a Frenchman to test me again.
I was full of confidence waiting for the program team to invite people, but Olivia suddenly shouted.
"Stop it! The program is not a stage for liars to perform endlessly. Just now, the twelve presidents collectively turned off the lights and you have been eliminated and have no chance!"
"Now, I formally invite you... Get off the stage!"
I couldn’t figure it out, why? Should job seekers be hired and dismissed? They didn’t even give people basic respect! Or did they think people are not human beings at all?!
Seeing that I refused to leave and wanted to ask for an explanation, Olivia frowned more and more impatiently and pushed me off the stage.
I fell off the stage unexpectedly and trembled with pain.
Olivia mocked me, "Are you acting again?! You might as well admit that you lied about your academic qualifications, so you don't have to pretend to be pitiful and stay on the stage. Aren't you tired?"
But when I raised my bruised hands and asked her, was this also acting?
Olivia's face changed and she said with a specious reason. "You knocked it on purpose!"
But no matter how Olivia denied it, this was a live broadcast and she was filmed being violent and causing harm to job seekers.
Worried about the bad influence, the program team hurriedly cut off the live broadcast.
After some discussion, the program resumed the broadcast and asked Olivia to declare that the program treated job seekers absolutely fairly and justly.
For this reason, she announced mercifully, "Celine, you are very lucky. The program team decided to invite French guests to communicate with you. You will have the opportunity to prove yourself again! Please believe that our "You Are the One" column will never miss any talent!"
The twelve lights were lit again.
Facing the camera, Olivia took the lead in applauding and cheering for me.
Turning around, she lowered his voice and said to me viciously, "Rubbish, you wasted my time! The program team has discussed and agreed to find a few more French people to expose you. Let's see how you can quibble then!"
But the next person who has to think about how to quibble was Wendy Jones! She looked ugly on the judges' bench.
Shortly after the intermission of the program, she came to the lounge to find me and said bluntly, "Celine, you should quit the program. Even if you expose me later, I will be embarrassed at most. Then I will pay the media to delete the post and shut up the netizens and I can still be the boss of my company!"
Wendy said she can afford to play.
But I couldn’t afford to lose.
If I dared to embarrass her in public, she would be unhappy. I would never be able to survive in New York in the future.
I just felt ridiculous and asked her. Could I leave in disgrace and admit that I am a liar? Would I be able to live well?
No, the whole industry would not want me!
Then what could I do? Pick up waste and collect garbage? Then how could I support my family and survive?
But Wendy didn't care, "Don't be picky, just be content with a job! Even if the salary is lower, it's harder and more tiring, so what? Young people nowadays just can't bear hardships."
In response, I only gave her one sentence. "Get lost!"
Wendy was so angry that she cursed at me crazily. "Stupid! The power of capital is not what you can imagine! You dead worker, I'll fuck you! Dare to jump with me?"
Chapter 3
"Believe it or not, we can kill you in a minute with just a flick of our fingers!"
I raised my hand and pointed at the door, asking her to get lost again.
Wendy slammed the door and walked out. And I just waited to go on stage again and expose Wendy on the spot. Now this was more direct and effective than showing any certificate.
But then the live broadcast was restarted and the promised French guest was gone.
Olivia smiled at me maliciously, "Celine, the program team has arranged a more exciting segment for you!"
She and Wendy smiled at each other and my head was buzzing.
I realized that the promised opportunity could also be denied.
Anyway, the boss had the final say.
Olivia announced their decision loudly, "In order to end this farce as soon as possible, the program team listened to Mrs. Jones's suggestion and invited two special guests."
As soon as the voice fell, I saw my parents walk onto the stage. They were stared at by countless pairs of eyes and trembled nervously.
I lost control in an instant and asked why the program involved two innocent old people? Come to me if there was anything!
But the next second, my mother raised her hand and slapped me.
She scolded me, "How dare you be so mean! It's all because you didn't learn well and became a liar. Now apologize to Mrs. Jones!"
I was beaten so hard that I saw stars and listened to my parents scolding me for bringing shame to them.
I just found out that the program team came to my parents and said that I was studying abroad and was exposed by Wendy. I was unwilling to make a scene on the program. My parents believed it.
In the eyes of the older generation, how could the boss be wrong? They would only suspect that there was something wrong with their children.
"Your father and I were mumbling. What foreign school name you said is so tongue-twisting and hard to remember, it sounds so unserious! You really are using the family's hard-earned money to fool around abroad!"
My mother's words, which were taken for granted, instantly sent me to hell.
Even my biological parents didn't speak for me and threw dirty water on me. Now no one in the audience believed me.
They scolded me for being a scum and cheating my parents' money.
I explained, but my mother would only say that I was stubborn and asked me to bow to Wendy and apologize.
I stood and refused to bend down.
My dad was so anxious that he slapped me to the ground.
"You little bastard, admit your mistakes! Your parents are doing this for your own good. Otherwise, they will say that you framed Mrs. Jones and will sue you and put you in jail!"
I pulled up the cracked corners of my mouth and sneered. "Let her sue!"
Why should the one who did nothing wrong bow their heads and beg for mercy? Did I have to kneel down to survive?
Wendy threatened me, "It seems that someone is a bastard and he will definitely go to jail!"
My parents were so anxious that they turned around and begged with tears, "Don't! It will ruin my daughter’s future if she go to jail! We... will let her apologize to you!"
My dad pressed my head to the ground and knocked it! Bang, bang, bang, I prostrated to Wendy several times and my head was splitting.
She smiled and said, okay, she would not bear grudges and would not sue me.
But she was obviously afraid that if she went to the police, she would not be able to conceal her fake academic credentials and other CEOs would feel sorry for her.
"Mrs. Jones is just too kind. This liar is still unrepentant. We must severely crack down on her arrogance and never let her go!"
Wendy said lightly, "Then let's unite and let the whole industry ban her, right?"
The bosses nodded with satisfaction. One sentence decided my fate.
My parents burst into tears and begged tremblingly. "Don't! Bosses, please be kind. Our daughter was just confused for a moment. Please let her go. We old couple will apologize for her!"
Instantly, I heard two heavy knees kneeling on the ground.
Chapter 4
The sound ‘bang’ sounded more frequent and faster than before. It was like a heavy hammer hitting my heart, making me feel extremely suffocated and desperate.
The program team was even more shameless to capture and enlarge the embarrassed begging of the two old people and put it on the big screen as a wonderful segment for people to enjoy!
I couldn't stand the humiliation anymore and passed out.
When I woke up again, I was lying on a cold hospital bed, with my parents crying beside me.
They blamed me.
"How could you go against your boss? You're happy now that you're out of work!"
But I couldn't blame them.
At first, my parents sold their country house to support me after hearing from the school that I had the opportunity to study abroad. They ate pickled vegetables and porridge, saying that it was important for children to study.
Thinking of this, I struggled to leave the hospital.
I want justice for my parents and myself!
Walking weakly on the road, I passed an office building and ran into Wendy being respectfully greeted by the security guard.
Seeing that I was holding a bag, she thought it was a resume and laughed at me mercilessly, "Oh, are you looking for a job? You're a liar begging for food!"
I didn't want to pay attention, but Wendy misunderstood that I was going to enter the building and grabbed me.
"Give up! Even if you go and hit your head against the boss inside, you won't even get the job of cleaning the toilet!"
The security guard rushed over and grabbed my bag and threw it far away.
"Get out! Our boss said that garbage should be thrown far away!"
The documents in my bag fell to pieces.
Wendy stepped on it and crushed it again and again, "See? I will ban you if I say so. Your career and life are over!"
"So what if you have real skills and diplomas? The media speaks for me! You have no background and no backers, no one will stand up for you and seek justice!"
Wendy sneered and walked away, but her cruel words were like a mountain, pressing me so hard that I couldn't breathe.
I didn’t understand why a diploma earned through hard work couldn’t be exchanged for fairness?
Did it mean that if I had no background and no backers, I would be bullied to death?!
The tears of humiliation rolled in my eyes.
I bit my lip tightly and picked up the documents on the ground.
Among them was my only remaining master's degree certificate, which was stained with coffee stains and the prints of stiletto heels were extremely glaring.
But once, the principal who issued me the certificate said that the diploma of the world's top university was enough to make major leading industries fight for me.
Now I looked at the French Embassy not far away, holding the trampled and broken certificate and walk up.
I asked the embassy. "Help me see. Is this the certificate of your international prestigious school? But now the Internet says that you run a fake university. Do you still want the reputation of your country?!"
