Chapter 2
"In the first year of your entrepreneurship, all the investments failed, and we lived in a rental house. We shared a meal. Was I doing it for the money then?
Now that you are rich, you use money to maintain our relationship, just like how you maintain lovers? Then anyone can be your wife, can I give way to someone else?"
Michael was annoyed and walked into the bedroom.
He didn't want to argue with me. To him, I was like a shrew, and he couldn't stand it.
My friend once asked me why I chose someone like Michael. Although he was rich, he was a scumbag.
I was speechless at that time.
Because the previous Michael was not like this.
When he was poor, he only cared about me.
He could spend the whole night grinding a ring for me with a glass bottle.
During college, he worked hard as a waiter in a hotel and earned 500 dollars, but he used it all to buy me a gold bracelet.
On my birthday, he gave me two gifts.
I was surprised and excited, "Who gives two gifts at once? You can keep one and give it to me next time."
He said seriously, "How can I do that? This ring is my sincerity, this bracelet is my money, my heart and money are all yours, one cannot be missing."
"It's good enough for you to give me the ring. Sincerity is priceless." I looked at the bloodstains on his hand and felt heartbroken.
He carefully put the bracelet on me, "No, Carlotta. I don't want to be perfunctory to you."
I was happy and said in a somewhat affected voice, "Why don't you put the ring on me?"
He put the ring in a box and handed it to me, "Don't wear it, it's made of glass. It looks good but it's easy to cut your hand. Keep it for now, and I'll exchange it for a real ring for you."
These sweet memories once brought me happiness, but now they were like thorns, causing pain in my heart.
My mom was here.
I thought she would scold me as she always did.
To my surprise, she asked me with a complicated expression, "What do you want to do?"
I said without hope, "I want a divorce!"
In fact, I filed for divorce more than once,
but everyone was against me.
Their attitude made me feel that I was ungrateful and unreasonable, and that filing for divorce was a heinous crime.
Over time, I have found it difficult to distinguish right from wrong.
The failure of my marriage seemed to be my failure.
My life seemed to be completely denied by this failed marriage.
When my patience finally ran out, I decided to stick to my decision no matter what.
But strangely, my usually strong-willed mother didn't oppose me this time. Instead, she calmly said to me, "You should figure it out by yourself."
I gratefully hugged my mother's arm and said, "Thank you, Mom."
She got up coldly and was about to leave. I thought she was angry, so I hurriedly followed her and said, "Mom, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to disobey you. I really can't go on with this marriage. I feel like I'm sick."
She paused and said, "Just make sure you won't regret it."
I anxiously defended myself, "Mom, after I get divorced, I may not be able to help our family as I do now, and our living standard will definitely decline, but I will work hard..."
My mother stood up and said indifferently, "As long as you're happy, you don't need to worry about the family affairs."
"What about my brother's job?" I was confused.
Chapter 3
Recently, my mother asked me to get my brother a job as a manager in Michael's company. I didn't want to keep bothering Michael like this, so I've been delaying and hoping that my mother would change her mind over time.
This was also what made me most helpless about my family.
Since Michael got better, my parents always found excuses to borrow money from Michael, but they never paid it back.
Michael was indeed generous to me and my family when it came to money.
So, the matter of borrowing money became something that both of them were willing to do but I was unhappy about. Neither of them listened to my advice but thought I was wrong.
The more I owed Michael, the harder it was for me to ask for a divorce.
It seemed as if all the grievances I had suffered were being compensated in a way that I didn't want.
Once grievances were priced, my emotions became worthless.
I didn't like this feeling.
At that moment, my mom smiled and said, "You don't need to worry anymore. Your younger brother's job problem has been solved."
I felt that something was wrong, but I self-comfort and thought that maybe my mother finally realized that sacrificing me to gain benefits was wrong. Anyway, things were developing as I wished, so I didn't ask anymore.
Until one day, my good friend Nola Patel sent me a WhatsApp message.
"I saw Michael. Do you know where he is now and who he is with?"
I didn't care and calmly replied, "What's so strange about being with a woman? Is there any day when he doesn't spend a lot of money on a woman?"
"No, no, you fool! You were kept in the dark about everything." Nola was anxious.
She then sent me a photo.
In the photo, the man affectionately hugged the woman's waist and lowered his head with a smile
While the woman tilted her head slightly, she looked happy. Her mouth pouted, with delicate pink lips as if she was acting coquettishly.
I was shocked,
but not by their affection.
I had seen various intimate photos of Michael and other women and each one was more intimate than this one.
Once, the mistress of Michael wanted to irritate me, so she sent me pictures of them having sex.
I had seen pictures of him with women in bathrobes, in bed, kissing.
I had experienced a lot.
But none of them hurt me more than this one.
Because I knew the person in the photo, she was my close sister since childhood.
Ashly, who just turned 24!
I was so angry that my fingers trembled as I quickly typed, "Send me the address."
When I arrived, Ashly was intimately leaning in Michael's arms, poking at his chest, smiling happily.
I pulled Ashly out and slapped Michael.
Michael was originally angry when he was slapped, but when he saw me, there was a hint of guilt on his face.
So, he would feel guilty.
But what was the meaning of his worthless guilt?
What was the meaning after all?
I didn't want to cry, since it would make me look weak. But my tears flowed uncontrollably.
"Michael, I have no illusions about you anymore. I have accepted my love and my life is all a mess, I misjudged the person and married the wrong person, it's all my retribution.
But you cheated on me with my sister! Do you think that because you are rich, our family will work like slaves for you, with the women becoming prostitutes and the men becoming servants to serve you?"
