Chapter 4
Despite feeling that I no longer cared about this relationship, I couldn't fall asleep when I was in bed.
In a daze, I began to recall the bits and pieces I had with Natalya.
After one a.m., I heard the sound of the door opening.
I closed my eyes and pretended to be asleep.
Natalya came to my side and saw me sleeping. She kissed me on the forehead and said, "My good boy."
I found it ridiculous in my heart. A woman who had been with her ex until after one a.m. had the nerve to say so to me.
She stood in front of me and observed me for a moment. Then she walked away, seemingly to take a shower.
"Ring, ring, ring."
Natalya's cell phone was placed on the bedside table. It kept ringing, annoying me and making my mind restless.
I couldn't resist. Then I picked up her cell phone. A message from Spencer popped up.
[Natalya, I can't sleep.]
[Why don't you stay here and keep me company instead of going back?]
[Shall we keep drinking and chatting until dawn? How about that?]
[Natalya?]
[Are you there?]
[Don't ignore me!]
[After careful consideration for many days, I finally realized the reason why I had divorced her. It is because I don't love her.]
[To be frank, I have never let go of you in my heart.]
I couldn't stand his disgusting way of teasing Natalya, so I threw Natalya's cell phone aside.
Feeling annoyed, I got up, walked to the balcony, and lit a cigarette.
Looking at the lights outside, I had an urge to cry.
Soon, Natalya finished taking a shower. Seeing me standing on the balcony and smoking, she asked, "Why are you still up so late? Didn't I tell you not to smoke at home? Here you are again!"
I turned around and asked Natalya, "My smoking is better than your affair, right?"
"What did you say? Affair? You are talking nonsense!"
Natalya glanced at me and walked back to the bedroom in her pajamas.
I didn't know if she understood my meaning.
But I believed that she, who had often been with her ex late at night, must have done something inappropriate.
If she didn't, it must be Spencer wasn't sexually potent.
Especially given the seductive methods Spencer had used by texting her on her cell phone, I knew what kind of person he was.
Natalya was constantly being seduced by such a man, which she immersed herself in. She alleged that she had never done anything inappropriate. Only a fool would believe her.
Before I could finish smoking the cigarette in my hands, there was a cry from Natalya's bedroom.
Then, Natalya came out angrily with her cell phone in her hands and asked me, "Did you touch my cell phone?"
I asked, "So what if I do?"
Natalya yelled at me hysterically, "You're so despicable. You pretended to be asleep and secretly spied on my cell phone while I was taking a shower. You invaded my privacy! How shameless you are!"
She was having an affair outside.
But she came back and scolded me loudly for being despicable and shameless!
I finally knew how self-righteous she was.
Our relationship should end.
I extinguished the cigarette and looked at Natalya, who was questioning me, and said, "Let's break up!"
Chapter 5
Natalya looked at me in a daze. Looking gloomy, she said, "Are you... are you crazy?"
I asked back, "Do you think I'm joking?"
She became nervous and said again, "We are about to get married. Are you sure you are breaking up with me at this time? Kendall! Are you fooling around with me?"
I walked up to her and said, "Pack up your things and leave my house as soon as possible!"
After saying these words, I went back to the bedroom and covered myself with a blanket before falling asleep.
I didn't know how long it had been. Natalya followed me back to the bedroom.
She lay behind me and hugged me. With a crying tone, she said, "Kendall, don't be angry. I know today is our fifth anniversary."
"Are you angry because I didn't come back to celebrate the anniversary with you?"
"You can't be so selfish."
"It's just an anniversary. We can celebrate it this year and next year. But Spencer was so upset because of the divorce. If I didn't go to comfort him, I'm afraid that he would do something stupid."
Listening to Natalya's ridiculous and self-righteous explanation, I was more determined to break up.
I shook her hands away and stood up.
Natalya stood up and asked, "Where are you going?"
I said directly, "I'm going to sleep in the guest room."
"Kendall! Are you serious?" Natalya shouted at me, adding, "We are getting married. How can I face relatives, friends, and family in the future? How can you suddenly regret it?"
"This is your business. It has nothing to do with me!"
I went straight to the guest room.
I didn't feel like I owed her anything.
Maybe she would feel embarrassed in front of her relatives and friends because of my sudden change of mind, but she often comforted her ex until late at night, which shamed me more.
"Since we can't tolerate each other, why bother getting married?"
Faced with my indifference, Natalya suddenly burst into tears.
She cried and asked me, "Are you so heartless?"
"You'd better move out tomorrow!"
I finished speaking and went straight to the second bedroom.
Chapter 6
The next day, I returned home from work, thinking that Natalya had moved out without hesitation.
But she was still here, and she even became diligent and proactive. The house was spotless. The table was filled with delicious dishes.
Her cooking skills were indeed good.
Perhaps this was another reason why I liked her.
But now, at the sight of these mouth-watering dishes, I have lost my appetite.
"Are you back?"
"Hurry up and wash your hands. It's time to eat."
Natalya brought a dish to the table and smiled at me, saying, "I'll cook another dish. It'll be ready soon."
Seeing that she was about to go to the kitchen, I grabbed her and said, "Why haven't you moved out yet?"
"Don't you like comforting your ex?"
"Now you can move in with him and comfort him day and night. Isn't that more convenient?"
My shouting scared Natalya and made her cry.
She cried and shook off my hand, saying, "It's not like that..."
"Then what is it like?"
I, who had lost patience, yelled at her.
She turned pale with fright.
Seeing how fierce I was, she cried, opened the door, and ran away.
It was around seven or eight p.m.
My mom called me, saying, "Kendall, why are you bullying Natalya again? You are about to get married. What are you doing?”
I wanted to explain, but my mom didn't give me the chance. She shouted on the phone, "You come to my place now to apologize to Natalya. Take her back then! You are so unreasonable!"
"Beep, beep, beep..."
The call was hung up.
I didn't know what Natalya had told my mom or complained about again.
I could tell that my mom was angry.
But this time, even if my mom stepped in, it wouldn't work.
