Chapter 1

On the day I bled heavily at home, my husband dumped me at the hospital entrance.

He had a devious plan. Not only to take my inheritance after I died but also to sue the hospital for a hefty sum.

What they didn't expect was that the night guard discovered me and saved my life.

The next day, my husband brought a bunch of relatives to the hospital to cause a scene.

Seeing that I hadn't died, he sheepishly took my unconscious body and our child back home.

My in-laws were displeased that I had given birth to a girl and that I had lost the ability to have more children due to the hemorrhage. They decided to end it all by turning on the gas while I was sleeping.

When I opened my eyes, I had returned to the day I first visited my husband's home.

My mother-in-law had lost a gold bracelet, and the whole family was glaring at me, suspecting I had stolen it.

Unlike my previous life, where I tried to prove my innocence, this time, I calmly dialed the police.

——

Before I died, it was my child's crying that woke me up.

The air was filled with the pungent smell of gas, and the doors and windows were tightly sealed, leaving no gaps.

The child was lying beside me, her cries growing weaker.

She was only a few days old, still so fragile.

A tiny bundle in the swaddling clothes.

My heart ached like a knife was twisting in it. I struggled to lift my hand to touch her.

But I had no strength left.

Before slipping into a deathly coma, tears of resentment flowed from my eyes.

This vile family actually wanted to kill me!

As my consciousness faded, I felt the pain in my body slowly disappear. Just then, I heard a voice by my ear.

"Ronnie, speak up! Did you see my mom's gold bracelet or not?"

I suddenly opened my eyes, gasping for breath like someone who had just been rescued from drowning.

The people around me were startled and leaned in to check on me.

"What's wrong with you? Why are you so jumpy?"

I looked over at the sound, and there he was—my detestable husband, Jimmy.

At that moment, he was sitting with my in-laws, looking at me with suspicion.

Outside, the sun was shining brightly, the weather was perfect.

So different from the gloomy day of the gas leak.

I slowly looked down, seeing my flat abdomen and feeling my legs move easily.

Even though it seemed impossible, I had to accept that I had somehow been reborn!

Based on what Jimmy had just said, I realized I had returned to the moment of my first visit to his home.

Suppressing the urge to strangle him, I calmly replied, "No, I haven't seen it."

"From the moment I entered, I haven't left your sight. If you think I stole it, go ahead and accuse me."

My mother-in-law, Sandy, froze at my words.

She was not expecting me to be so blunt.

Jimmy was also taken aback, but then he spoke angrily, "What are you talking about? We're just asking if you've seen it. Who said you stole it?"

I sneered.

In my previous life, I was also startled and believed them when they said it. I even helped them search for it.

In the end, when we couldn't find it, my in-laws scolded me, implying that I had taken it.

"There are only a few people in this house, and we've never lost anything in all these years. But the moment an outsider comes in, something goes missing?"

My father-in-law, Peter, chimed in, snorting disdainfully, "Exactly. This is the first time meeting the family, and this happens. Our family can't accept a daughter-in-law like that."

I was furious and was about to argue when Jimmy stopped me.

He looked helpless. "Ronnie, they're just old and worried. They're not targeting you; don't take it personally."

Unconvinced, I emptied the contents of my bag to show them.

Sandy rolled her eyes, "Who knows if you've hidden it somewhere on your body? Who are you trying to fool?"

At that time, I was wearing a beige long dress, without even a pocket.

In my previous life, I was too young and hot-headed. I ran out of the house in tears after being wronged.

Later, my in-laws called to apologize, and with Jimmy's sweet talk, I eventually softened.

Now, looking back, it was just a power play, a slap followed by a sweet treat to put me in my place.

Seeing my expression change, Jimmy softened his tone, "Ronnie, don't take it to heart. They're just old and impatient…"

I raised my hand to stop him and looked at Sandy, "Auntie, are you sure your gold bracelet went missing after I arrived?"

Sandy hesitated for a moment, but after seeing Peter's look, she stiffened her resolve.

"Of course, I'm sure. Don't be stubborn. We've known each other for years. We won't blame you."

Peter added, "Yes, after all, we'll be family soon. It's just a small matter."

He then put on a pained expression, "But that bracelet was worth hundreds of dollars, not cheap."

I nodded and took out my phone to dial the police.

"Hello, officer, I'd like to report a theft. A gold bracelet worth hundreds of dollars has gone missing at Building 15, Unit 1, Apartment 1012 in the City Garden neighborhood. Could you please come over?"

Chapter 2

The White family was completely stunned.

Sandy was the first to lose her temper, pointing at my nose and yelling, "Are you crazy? Why did you call the police?"

I took out a mirror from my bag and fixed my makeup, replying disdainfully, "Isn't your point that I stole your gold bracelet? So I called the police to have them arrest me."

"After all, it's a bracelet worth hundreds of dollars. Although it's just my one month's salary, it's very valuable to you, so of course, it should be taken seriously."

Jimmy came to his senses and grabbed my wrist, pleading, "Ronnie, what are you doing? Aren't we almost family? Calling the police hurts our relationship."

"Besides, I believe in you. How could you possibly steal anything?"

I closed the mirror and angrily shook off his hand, "You believe in me? Stop pretending, it's disgusting!"

"Your parents are clearly treating me like a thief. It's my first time at your house, and you're already making things difficult for me. And you still shamelessly want to be a family with me?"

"Keep dreaming!"

Jimmy had never seen me so angry before and was at a loss for words.

I calmly sat by the door, waiting for the police to arrive.

In contrast, the White family was already restless.

I was right; it was indeed a setup by Jimmy and his parents.

In my previous life, after the wedding, Sandy shamelessly asked for my gold jewelry, claiming she would keep it safe for me.

When I hesitated, she brought up this incident, crying and lamenting.

Jimmy, as usual, sided with his mother, trying to smooth things over.

Helpless, I had to give it to her.

A few days later, I saw Sandy happily playing poker game.

My gold bracelet was prominently displayed on her wrist.

The police arrived quickly. As the doorbell rang, I rushed to open it.

"Officer, look, the one who lost the bracelet is this old lady!"

Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Sandy trying to slip into the bedroom. I quickly stepped forward and grabbed her clothes.

Sandy was caught in an awkward position, neither advancing nor retreating, and had to stammer through the police's questions.

As for Peter and Jimmy, they didn't even dare to breathe.

"So you're saying that this lady's bracelet went missing after she arrived?"

The officer turned a puzzled look at me.

Clearly, they could tell that Sandy was hiding something, but they didn't immediately expose her.

I pretended to be surprised, covering my mouth as I started to act.

"How could that be? It's my first time meeting the parents today; how could I steal anything from you?"

Before the White family could respond, I picked up my bag and said with a wronged tone, "Other than the gifts I bought for the elders, I only brought this bag."

"If there's any doubt, officers, feel free to search it!"

A female officer took my bag and carefully searched it. After finding nothing, she shook her head at the other officer.

A bead of sweat dripped down Sandy's forehead. She nervously wiped it away and mumbled, "Oh, maybe I remembered wrong..."

I waved my hand, "Auntie, how could you remember wrong? You were so certain that I stole it just now."

"Uncle also said it's something worth tens of thousands. If you lose it just like that, what would you do?"

The police didn't want to go in circles anymore and asked directly, "Tell the truth, what really happened?"

Sandy kept her head down, trembling all over.

The officer then turned to the two silent men sitting on the side, "What about you two? What really happened?"

Peter swallowed hard and avoided the officer's eyes, "She...she didn't have any gold bracelet at all."

"We just made up a story to scare my son's girlfriend. We didn't expect her to take it seriously."

The officer became serious, "This is not a matter to joke about. Tens of thousands of dollars could lead to a criminal case. You are framing and incriminating her!"

The White family was scared stiff and started begging for mercy.

I couldn't stand to watch any longer. I stood up, thanked the police, and then went to pick up the gift box I had bought for the White family.

"Jimmy, from today, we are done. We have no relationship anymore. Your family disgusts me. Don't ever contact me again."

With that, I left his house without looking back.

Stepping out of the elevator, I got into my car and let out a long sigh of relief.

Jimmy and I were college classmates. He pursued me first, and I couldn't resist his sweet advances, so I agreed to be with him.

During our years of dating, he was always obedient and played the role of a perfect boyfriend.

But little did I know, it was all just an act.

I come from a well-off family; my parents run a successful business and had already prepared an apartment for me.

Jimmy's family is ordinary, but he was considerate and tall and handsome, so my parents approved.

We didn't have a wedding house, and my apartment wasn't ready yet, so we had to live with his parents.

In the second year of our marriage, I got pregnant, and that's when Jimmy revealed his true colors.
