Chapter 1
I fail my mission and jump off a building to restart the game. Then, I become a billionaire and am rewarded with a handsome young man as soon as the game starts!
The weightlessness I felt while falling from a great height nearly made me spasm.
I finally started regaining my senses. Slowly, I opened my eyes and looked at my surroundings.
Wait, what was I doing in such a luxurious office suite? I was sitting in a real leather executive chair too!
"Am I… back?"
Before I could start making heads or tails or things, someone knocked at the door.
"Come in!"
My instincts worked a lot faster than my brain.
Just then, a very handsome-looking young man entered my office. Apparently, he was my secretary.
"Ms. Martinez, you will need to attend a charity event at Sunshine Orphanage later today."
My mind was a blur. What did he just call me? And what orphanage charity event was he talking about?
The system suddenly spoke up in my ear to explain things.
"Congratulations, Jessica Martinez! You got really lucky this time!"
It had been a long time since I heard this name. I was stunned. Hadn't I failed in my last mission?
"What do you mean by that?"
The system's icy voice continued, "To avoid affecting your original world, we got a stand-in to replace you while you were transmigrated into the system.
"As it turned out, your stand-in was a genius businesswoman who turned you from a regular white-collar worker into the CEO of your own company in the past seven years. You now own assets and properties worth ten billion dollars."
Ten billion dollars?
My eyes nearly popped out from the shock. This was 100 times more than the original 100 million dollars the system promised me if I'd succeeded in my mission!
"Is this… Is this even possible?"
"Of course," the system replied. "Now enjoy living your life as a rich socialite!"
The system was speaking in its usual icy tone, but for some reason, I thought I detected a hint of sarcasm in its tone.
After the excitement from finding out about my sudden riches died down, I suddenly thought of someone.
Perry Grayson.
I hurriedly asked, "System, what happened to Perry after I left?"
"He died," the system answered coldly.
"What?"
The system then showed me the scene of when I jumped from the top of the building.
"Perry's storyline had a bad ending. He had a love-hate relationship with the main female lead, Jessie Martin, and jumped to his death shortly after she did. He's now as dead as a doornail."
The system's voice disappeared right after that.
I watched as I jumped off the building. Perry had jumped right after I did, without a single moment of hesitation.
He'd never once held my hand, even until the end. He could only watch as he was crushed alive with the lifeless "Jessie Martin" next to him.
Meanwhile, the red number "99" floating above my head suddenly and finally hit "100"!
…
I was rendered completely speechless when I saw this scene.
Did my being alive turn out to be the biggest obstacle in succeeding in the mission after all? Did I have to die before I could succeed?
At the same time, I also heard what he yelled at me.
"Jessica Martinez! You'll never get rid of me even if you die!"
It felt as though Perry's face was right in front of me as he yelled. I felt a chill down my spine and couldn't help shuddering.
My secretary stared at me in wonder, witnessing my expression going from delight to dumbfounded to greatly shocked.
He must have thought that I was feeling immensely pressured, which caused my distressed mental state.
He asked cautiously, "Ms. Martinez, would you like me to ask Dr. Charter to have a look at you?"
I immediately snapped back to reality. Then, I leaned back against my soft, plush leather seat and said, "I'm fine. What event did you say I was going to have to attend again?"
He sighed in relief. "Oh, it's a charity event by Sunshine Orphanage. You donated a building to them, and the orphanage director, Ms. Ophelia Yates, would like to invite you to the ribbon-cutting ceremony."
I inhaled deeply when I heard this. It finally seemed real that I had assets and properties worth 100 billion dollars.
"Push the event to later in the evening. I'm feeling tired."
I'd just experienced a life-and-death situation a while ago. I wasn't in the mood to be cutting ribbons at the moment.
The secretary wasn't just a handsome young man—he was very thoughtful as well. I knew then that he must have been very carefully selected.
"Are you not in a good mood, Ms. Martinez?"
I sighed and answered with a soft hum.
A look of understanding immediately came over the secretary's face. He then said in a secretive manner, "I'll bring you to your 'usual place' then, Ms. Martinez. You'll feel a lot more relaxed."
I cocked my eyebrow as I stared at him. What other surprises were awaiting me?
Chapter 2
My secretary drove me to the entrance of a building. I looked up at the sign and felt my eyes light up at once.
The sign said, "The Bachelorette". Wasn't this a luxury nightclub famous for its male escorts?
In my previous, previous life, this was a place where only the richest female clients were allowed entry. Was it finally my turn now?
I recalled my time with Perry, where I'd be locked up in a dark room if my gaze ever accidentally lingered on a handsome guy by a fraction of a second. He would then torture me all day and night.
But now, there was nobody here to stop me anymore!
I took off the sunglasses on my face after getting down from the car, staring at the doors to the building that were tightly shut. I couldn't help feeling overwhelmed with excitement.
So, what if the nightclub wasn't open during the day? I was a rich multi-billionaire with a successful business now!
I tilted my chin at my secretary, who understood my signal and immediately called someone on his phone.
Less than five minutes later, the nightclub doors opened, and the owner, Madame Scarlett, immediately greeted me with all smiles.
"My apologies, Ms. Martinez! We had no idea that you'd be visiting today. Please forgive our gross oversight!"
I smirked.
"It's fine. Just get all your hottest escorts to serve me."
I handed my black card to her with a flourish and spoke to her in the haughtiest voice I could conjure.
"Make sure none of them are left behind!"
Madame Scarlett was overjoyed when she took the black card from me. She immediately showed me to a private room to wait.
Less than ten minutes later, a long row of handsome young male models appeared before my eyes. There were so many of them, ranging from handsome hunks to pretty boys, all in a row, ready for me to take my pick.
I let them surround me with their jaw-droppingly gorgeous bodies as I toyed around with them. I didn't have a care in the world!
However, after a long while, my phone suddenly rang just as I was enjoying being treated like a queen.
"Ms. Martinez, it's time for the ribbon-cutting ceremony."
I stole a glance at the time and realized that time had passed too quickly for me.
I begrudgingly walked out of the nightclub. My secretary realized that one of the male escorts had left a love bite on my neck.
"Ms. Martinez, you'll need to cover that up with a scarf. There'll be reporters at the event later."
I nodded and took the scarf from him.
We arrived at the orphanage a short while later. After the ceremony, I started strolling around casually in the orphanage premises.
I felt a bittersweet feeling as I walked along the corridors. I was an orphan too, and I'd grown up in an orphanage since I could remember.
That was why I knew that it wasn't easy living in an orphanage. They had few resources, and whatever resources they had had to be split up between the numerous children there, often causing the orphanage kids to develop paranoia from a young age.
Paranoia?
I found myself thinking about Perry again. If I hadn't transmigrated into his world, would he not have jumped off after me to his death after all?
Would he have felt any regret meeting me?
I bet that he did.
He probably wouldn't just regret meeting me. Knowing him, he would hate me more than ever.
Still, perhaps it would be good that he hated me. After all, hate often outlasted love.
I sighed, feeling a dull ache in my heart, as if a blunt knife was stabbing mercilessly at it.
"Whatever… I'm back now, so why am I still thinking of him?" I thought.
While lost in my thoughts, I suddenly heard someone talking next to me.
"Who are you?"
I looked up and suddenly saw that a young man was standing right in front of me.
I felt my blood freeze as soon as our gazes met.
Perry Grayson?
Chapter 3
Seven years ago, I had transmigrated into a book as the female lead, Jessie Martin, and my mission was to save the antagonist, Perry Grayson, from himself.
I had to change him from being the dark, jealous, ruthless, and merciless antagonist into a bright and cheerful young man with a positive outlook on life.
I would then be rewarded with 100 million dollars as a reward if I could get him to like me 100%.
However, after being with him for seven years, I had only managed to turn into a victim of his perverted paranoia as he tortured me the whole time.
All of a sudden, I could hear Perry's last words ringing in my ear once again.
"Jessica Martinez! You'll never get rid of me even if you die!"
Since I stood rooted in place without moving, the young man asked me again, a little more guardedly, "Hey, I'm talking to you. Who are you?"
It was only then that I snapped out of my memories and stared at him with fear.
"I…"
My first instinct was to flee. Just as I'd taken a few steps backward, someone suddenly patted me on the shoulder.
I turned around to see who it was and saw Ophelia there.
"Peregrine Garrison, don't be rude. This is Ms. Martinez."
"Peregrine Garrison?"
"Yes. This kid has been with us from a young age. He's already 18 years old, so he's past the age for any legal adoption. He's now on summer break from the local college here, so he's helping me out in the orphanage."
I secretly sighed when I heard Ophelia introducing him to me. Luckily, he wasn't Perry Grayson…
"Peregrine Garrison? That's a pretty unique name."
I pushed my emotions aside and gave Peregrine another once-over.
After some scrutinizing, I realized that Peregrine was quite good-looking too, but he differed from Perry.
Although Peregrine's eyes were dark, his gaze was still clear and innocent. However, when Perry looked at me, his eyes would be filled with dark lust.
This was what set them apart.
Also, Perry would never allow me to stand such a distance away from him. He also wouldn't be looking at me with such a guarded expression.
He would only tug me closer by my wrists and force me to promise him that I would forever stay with him.
Ophelia saw that I was developing some sort of interest in Peregrine, so she nudged him to come closer to me.
"Go on; greet her. Call her Ms. Martinez."
"No, it's fine. He can call me Jess."
Peregrine was very tall. He looked down at me with a look of curiosity in his eyes.
"Hi, Jess."
"Why are you staring at me like that?" I asked, immediately shifting my gaze.
"You look familiar, like someone I know."
I felt my heart starting to thump loudly against my ribcage. Maybe it was because Peregrine's eyes looked too much like Perry's.
"I've got something else going on after this, so I'll be leaving now."
I turned around, planning to leave, but someone grabbed the hem of my shirt from the back.
Peregrine was smiling shyly at me, his lips curved upward. He was so much taller than me that his shadow even managed to completely envelop me in darkness.
"Jess, I keep thinking that we were fated to meet. Can you please bring me back with you?"
Peregrine blinked innocently at me, looking at me longingly with his quiet charm.
I was so stunned I was rooted to the ground. My heart continued to pump wildly.
