Chapter 1

At her son’s first birthday party, his wife ordered a separate dish for the assistant.

Without a moment's hesitation, I sent a message to my lawyer friend and asked him to draft a divorce agreement.

Seeing the agreement, Sophia Carter laughed out of anger.

"There were hundreds of dishes at the first birthday party, and you only stared at Ryan's dish?"

"Can you please curb your possessiveness?"

"Whatever you say," I said calmly, "I'm going to get a divorce anyway."

When I hurried back to the banquet hall, my wife's assistant took the seat that originally belonged to me.

He was wearing a suit of the same color as Sophia Carter, and his every move and gesture acted like a host.

"Assistant Ren and President Jiang look like a perfect match."

"Boss Jiang goes to work with Assistant Ren every day. Maybe they already live together."

When I heard the company employee's words, my heart felt like it was being gripped by an invisible hand.

Seeing me coming back, Ryan Young apologized profusely.

"Brother-in-law, it's all my fault that I spilled red wine on your clothes."

"You won't blame me?"

Before I could respond, Sophia Carter spoke first.

"Don't I know what you are like?"

"Go sit at table number three. I ordered you a bowl of porridge."

Everyone praised Sophia Carter for being considerate to her colleagues.

"Just now, the boy said he had a stomachache, so Mr. Jiang ordered porridge for him."

"His feet were rubbed and bleeding, and Mr. Jiang put a band-aid on them for him."

"Ryan is lucky to have such a considerate woman."

I smiled on the surface, but my nails dug deep into my palms.

Sophia Carter used to hate stupidity more than anyone.

Sometimes he would get angry and fire his assistant just because he had an extra name tag.

I haven't seen such patience for a long time.

"Today's protagonist is my son, please don't talk about me."

Sophia Carter spoke calmly without any explanation.

The birthday party was about to begin, and she stopped me from getting up.

"I forgot to tell you, I've already decided on Leo's godfather."

Without waiting for my reaction, Ryan Young put a safety lock on Leo.

He placed a kiss on the side of his son's face, "I will be Leo's father from now on."

Looking up, the provocation in his eyes was clearly visible.

Keep everything simple.

Sophia Carter suddenly interrupted the process when it was almost over.

"According to the rules, Leo should kowtow to Ryan to be his godfather today."

"Kowtow?" I frowned. "Leo is only one year old. Kowtow can easily lead to suffocation and brain damage."

"Can you please think before you speak?"

Sophia Carter said in a bad tone, "Is it that Leo can't do it, or do you have a grudge against Leo's choice of godfather?!"

"Okay, Mr. Jiang, I've already given you the safety lock, so the ceremony is complete."

Ryan Young interrupted our argument, and the woman who had been arguing with me the previous second immediately calmed down.

"I want to send a few words of blessing to Leo, is that okay?"

Under Sophia Carter's tacit gaze, the microphone was placed in Ryan Young's hands.

I glanced across the table, and the wine glass with some red wine remaining on it was particularly eye-catching.

Ryan Young smiled.

"I heard that Leo was a test-tube baby."

"Now that I look closely, it really lacks some human touch."

"Test tube babies must be very delicate. It's hard for my brother-in-law to take care of them."

"Oh, by the way, Leo knows that he is from the laboratory..."

There was a crisp sound.

I walked off the stage and slapped Ryan Young in the face.

I hit him and his head tilted, and tears welled up in his eyes.

Another crisp sound.

Sophia Carter said coldly, "This is for you on Ryan's behalf."

Chapter 2

After that, she took Ryan Young and left the venue.

The scene was silent.

Try to put on a decent smile,

"Everyone can eat now."

When I got home, the left side of my face was still slightly hot.

After coaxing the child to sleep, I lay on the sofa, feeling as if a piece of my chest had been hollowed out.

I felt like there were dozens of lemons beating in my heart.

Sour. Swelling.

Even breathing became difficult.

It was not until late at night that the sound of the door being pushed open was heard.

Sophia Carter reached out to touch my face, but I dodged her.

"I was wrong, Ethan." She knelt on the ground and gently rubbed her face against my knees.

"But after all, you were the one who hit someone first."

"Ryan was drunk and talking nonsense. How can you argue with a drunk person?"

She smiled at me, straightened up and rubbed my nose, "Will you forgive me?"

In the moonlight, I smelled the scent of Sophia Carter's men's perfume on her collar.

I picked up the agreement on the table and handed it to him, my tone was filled with fatigue.

"Sophia Carter, let's get a divorce."

"divorce?"

Sophia Carter's expression was frozen as she took the agreement and read it over and over again.

After confirming that I was serious about filing for divorce, the agreement was thrown in my face.

"Are you crazy Ethan Foster?"

"Leo just turned one year old, and you want to divorce me?"

"Do you think divorce can be accomplished with just a few words?"

"I know I was wrong today. I hit you, but everything has a cause and an effect."

"I've already apologized. When will your stubborn temper subside?"

"Get it straight. You're a father now."

"Family harmony comes first!"

She said a lot and didn't notice the tears falling from my eyes.

There was a stinging pain on my face, and the wounds left by the staples on my face were burned by my tears.

Sophia Carter subconsciously took out her wallet, her movements frozen as if paused.

"Your Band-Aid went to Ryan Young, right?"

"I even ordered a bowl of porridge for him."

Facing my questioning, she was calm.

"So what? It doesn't mean anything."

"Divorce over a bowl of porridge and a band-aid."

"Ethan Foster, you're making a fuss out of nothing!"

Sophia Carter spoke so loudly that she woke the sleeping child.

The crying echoed throughout the living room.

Seeing her frowning brows due to irritation, I asked,

"Do you know where Leo's bottles and formula are?"

The sudden question made Sophia Carter freeze in place.

There was a hint of sarcasm on the corner of his mouth. How could she know where the milk powder was?

After giving birth, Sophia Carter has been cold towards Leo.

During the breastfeeding period, she refused to feed Leo and even refused to look at him.

"Giving birth to him has made me out of shape. I hate myself now!"

The scene of Sophia Carter going crazy comes to my mind.

Holding the bottle, I signed my name on the agreement before entering the bedroom.

"You should sign it too, or I will file for divorce on the grounds that you cheated on me."

"You won't get any benefit then."

Sophia Carter was still trying to defend herself, but I reached out and touched her face, which I had loved so much.

"Your mouth tastes like the red wine Ryan Young drank today."

"What did you do with him? It's hard to guess."

I coaxed Leo to sleep again, and when I came out, Sophia Carter was no longer in the living room.

She tore the agreement into pieces and threw it into the trash can.

A luxury brand bag was quietly placed on the table.

That's what Sophia Carter hid behind her as soon as she walked in.

Chapter 3

When I opened it, a limited edition brand-name baby blanket appeared in front of me.

My eyes darkened.

After becoming a father, all the gifts Sophia Carter gave me were related to children.

She wanted to trap me step by step under the title of Leo's father.

Two almost overlapping notification tones came from the phone.

There is news from the firm I communicated with before.

"I heard that Xu Lu had temporarily retired to take care of his children. I didn't expect him to contact us on his own initiative."

"I believe that with your joining, we will be even more powerful."

“I wish us a pleasant cooperation.”

I replied to the message politely, exited the dialog box, and it showed that someone had added me as a friend.

The verification message is only five words long.

My name is Ryan Young.

The moment I passed through, his message came.

There were spots of blood on one towel and traces of moisture on the bed sheet.

[Your wife said I could satisfy her better, so she wanted to give me her first time and had a hymen repair surgery.]

I understand his subtext.

A little boy who just graduated and has nothing.

Faced with Sophia Carter's advances, he thought he had won her whole heart and rushed over to show his status.

Young people always have the courage of a moth flying into a flame.

Suddenly, I seemed to see myself when I was younger.

When I was sixteen, Sophia Carter and I became the only two students in our small town to be admitted to a key high school.

Sophia Carter's parents, who are middle school teachers, were so happy that they held banquets for three consecutive days.

But I didn't dare tell my parents the news.

When I was eight years old, my biological parents died early and I was adopted by Uncle Hank.

The days of living under someone else's roof taught me early on how to read people's faces and do things accordingly.

Uncle Hank had three or five wine bottles at his feet. He looked at me while clinking glasses with the factory manager.

"Damn it, my sister died a long time ago, leaving me with only a debt collector like you."

"Fortunately, it's a boy and he's strong. He should be able to get a good price, right?"

"Of course," the factory manager agreed, "He will give you 80% of his monthly salary and the remaining 10% will be used as a referral fee."

The two of us clinked glasses and chatted, and a few words described the trajectory of my life.

So Sophia Carter came to me excitedly and asked me when I would report.

I stammered and couldn't utter a complete sentence.

The door suddenly opened, and Uncle Hank's flattering voice came,

"My boy is good in every way. As long as you are ready, I will send him over immediately."

They looked at me as if I were a commodity.

"I'm not going to school. I'm going to work."

"Do you want to learn?" Sophia Carter's voice came timidly.

The response was buried in silence.

That night, Sophia Carter secretly opened the door. Under the night sky, her eyes were brighter than the stars.

"I brought the money, let's go to school."

When my parents were dying, they endured the pain and taught me to listen to Uncle Hank.

But at that moment, all I wanted was to hold Sophia Carter's hand.

In high school, I was ostracized and laughed at because of my accent and the way I dressed.

Sophia Carter was cheerful and sunny, and she quickly became friends with her city classmates.

Sensing my resistance to her, Sophia Carter pulled me to a corner with a sullen face.

"Ethan, if you don't like me playing with them, I'll only play with you."

"Don't hate me."

Suddenly I seemed to have the confidence.

All the anxiety exploded at that moment.

I cried silently, and she waited quietly for me to vent all my emotions.

From then on, Sophia Carter would find me eating alone in a corner of the cafeteria.

Every day she would accompany me to drink white porridge which cost 50 cents a bowl.

Facing the strange looks from her classmates, Sophia Carter remained calm and resolute.
