Chapter 1

I was the live-in son-in-law of the famous Robertson family in Savannah. For the sake of my daughter, I had endured being called a loser for eight years.

As an orphan, my daughter meant everything to me, but the Robertson family, to please their precious grandson, demanded that my daughter crawl under his legs. Unable to bear it any longer, I decided to divorce the Robertson family.

They mocked me, saying I was nothing without them and finally discarded me, the laughingstock of the city.

I took my daughter and returned to my biological family – the Pritchard family, the wealthiest in Savannah.

--

“As long as you crawl under my legs, I’ll let you go today!”

Henry, the five-year-old grandson of the Robertson family, stood with his legs apart, taunting my eight-year-old daughter, Luna.

My daughter, who had been pushed down by Henry, fell onto some broken vase pieces, her hands covered in blood.

I held her close, my heart aching.

“Henry, it was you who tried to snatch Luna’s toy and broke the vase accidentally. Why are you making things difficult for her?”

Before I could finish, Stella, the eldest daughter of the Robertson family, slapped me across the face.

“Shut up! Do you think you have a say in our family? My son is the only heir. What right do you, a worthless man, have to criticize him?”

I closed my eyes, waiting for the pain to pass, and forced myself to suppress the anger burning inside. I looked at the elder behind Henry.

“George, Margaret, Henry is already so big, yet he behaves so recklessly. As elders, you should teach him how to conduct himself properly.”

George Robertson, the head of the family, sat leisurely on the leather sofa, sipping his tea.

“How we educate Henry is our business. Ethan, you’re just a live-in son-in-law in our family. Because Sofia insisted on marrying a loser like you, our family has become the laughingstock of Savannah. You should know your place and stop meddling in our affairs.”

His wife, Margaret, picked up her tea and splashed the hot liquid onto my face.

“Ethan, who do you think you are to tell us what to do? The children of our family get whatever they want. If you know what’s good for you, make Luna crawl under his legs, or both of you can get out of this house!”

My daughter, who had never been accepted by the Robertson family, was terrified.

“Daddy, I’m sorry for dragging you into this. It’s just crawling under his legs; it’s not a big deal. You don’t have to worry.”

Saying that, she crouched down, placing her blood-stained hands on the cold marble floor, leaving bloody handprints as she moved.

Henry made faces at us, showing no respect for his sister, even spitting on Luna as she crawled on the floor.

This is my daughter, the one I’ve cherished and protected for eight years despite all the humiliation!

I picked up my trembling daughter again, wiped the spit off her head, and held her tightly, glaring at my so-called wife, Sofia.

“Sofia, do you also think Luna is in the wrong? Luna is your daughter!”

Chapter 2

Sitting on the sofa, Sofia turned her head away, not even sparing a glance at her injured daughter.

“It was a mistake to have her in the first place. Because of you two, the entire Savannah laughs at me. Keeping you in our family is already more than enough. I’ll listen to whatever my parents and sister say on this matter.”

My daughter clung to my clothes tightly upon hearing her mother’s heartless words.

I closed my eyes hard and sighed deeply.

Any last bit of gratitude I had for Sofia and any patience I had for the Robertson family had been completely worn out.

They were right; marrying Sofia Robertson was me reaching above my station.

I was an orphan who managed to get into a top university in the country to study finance.

I had no family background, but my outstanding appearance brought me a lot of unwanted attention, with Sofia being the most persistent.

I was well aware of my situation and rejected her advances repeatedly, focusing solely on my future.

However, just as I secured a job offer from a globally renowned investment firm, with a bright future ahead, Sofia drugged me at the graduation party and ended up pregnant with my child.

To an orphan like me, this child was incredibly precious.

So, for my daughter’s sake, I accepted Sofia’s proposal and became a live-in son-in-law to the Robertson family.

The Robertsons never trusted me. They even forced me to give up my job opportunity, threatening me with a miscarriage, reducing me to a servant, washing clothes and cooking, becoming the most ridiculed man in Savannah.

Over the years, I endured their countless humiliations, but they refused to acknowledge my daughter’s existence, telling the world that Henry was their only grandchild.

Luna’s mother, Sofia, never looked at her after she was born, as if Luna didn’t exist.

What they saw as nothing was my treasure, the daughter I raised painstakingly. How could I let them humiliate her like this?

I stared coldly at Stella, the eldest daughter of the Robertson elders.

“You want Luna to apologize to Henry? That’s impossible,” I spoke.

Stella laughed in disbelief.

“Ethan, who do you think you are to defy me? Are you serious? Do you think you have the right to refuse?”

Sofia, slightly surprised, still sided with Henry.

“It’s just crawling under his legs. They’re just kids, what’s the big deal? Stop being so melodramatic. If you don’t want to be kicked out of our family, just let her do it.”

Hearing her mother speak, Luna loosened her grip on me and tried to get down again. I held her back immediately and finally voiced the thought that had crossed my mind countless times over the past eight years.

“Sofia, I want a divorce.”

Chapter 3

My words struck like a thunderbolt, leaving the Robertsons stunned.

After a moment of shock, they quickly burst to scornful laughter.

George laughed so hard that he spilled his tea, saying, “That’s the funniest thing I’ve heard today, Ethan. Without us, you’re nothing but a worthless nobody, and you dare to talk about divorce?”

Margaret sneered, her eyes narrowing as she looked me up and down. “You must be joking. Who do you think you are? If there’s going to be a divorce, it will be our family divorcing you!”

I was done tolerating the Robertsons’ insults. “I’ll give you one last chance – have Henry apologize to Luna, or the humiliation you’ve inflicted on us today will be repaid a hundredfold in the future!”

Stella responded by raising her hand to slap me again. “How dare you! You’re nothing but a piece of shit, and you dare to disrespect us?”

This time, I didn’t hold back. I blocked her hand with a swift motion.

Sofia stood up, supporting her sister, and glared at me in fury. “Ethan! I was going to be generous and give you some money, but you’ve gone too far! You won’t get a cent from our family! If we divorce, you’ll leave with nothing!”

A servant promptly brought out a divorce agreement, clearly indicating that the Robertsons had planned this all along.

Without hesitation, I took the pen and prepared to sign the divorce papers.

However, Sofia snatched the agreement back. “Ethan, I’ll give you one more chance. If you apologize to us, I’ll plead for you to stay.”

I couldn’t comprehend the struggle in Sofia’s expression. If she truly cared about me and our daughter, how could she have allowed us to endure years of mistreatment from this family?

Or was this just another ploy, a way to give me false hope so she could humiliate me once more?

I pushed these thoughts aside and took the divorce papers from her hand, signing my name decisively.

Sofia, fuming, swung her hand to slap me, but I stepped back just in time. “Ethan, after everything, you’re still so heartless! Anyone else would have softened by now, but not you! Get out of this house, and don’t you dare take a single thing with you!”

I couldn’t understand Sofia’s words. She spoke as if she had given me so much, but aside from giving birth to my daughter, all she had brought me was pain.

The debt I owed Sofia for giving me Luna had been repaid in full over the past eight years, as I worked like a servant and became the laughingstock of Savannah.

I owed them nothing.

I picked up my daughter and walked out of the Robertson mansion under the scornful gazes of their servants.

Despite her fear, Luna clung to me and walked away firmly from the Robertson family.

“Daddy, where will we go now?” Luna asked, her voice trembling.

I patted her head gently to reassure her. “Don’t worry, sweetheart. Daddy is taking you to meet our real family.”

I pulled out my phone and dialed the number I had saved three days ago. “Is this Lucy Thompson? Please inform Grandpa that I’ve cut ties with the Robertsons. It’s time to come and bring us back to the Pritchard family.”
