Chapter 5
Eliana was locked up for a full day and night.
She did not wait for Bryson; instead, Althea came to the door.
Unlike Eliana’s weak state, Althea looked bright and smug as she said, “You saw it, in this kind of choice between two. Bryson will always trust me.”
“Today, you dissected your own child’s body. How did it feel? Does your heart ache to the point of breaking?”
Eliana’s face turned pale, she suddenly grabbed her wrist and asked coldly, “How did you know? Was all of this done by you? Wasn’t it!”
The fake expression on Althea’s face disappeared completely; only endless cruelty stayed.
She spoke lightly, “Yes, I did it.”
“Back then, Bryson gave me the child’s funeral matter. I felt sorry for you having no daughter, so I sank the child’s body into the pond behind the villa, letting your child stay by your side for four years.”
“This time as well, I had people bring the body out, and I personally sent it to you. Speaking of it, you should thank me. Otherwise, you would stay unaware for your whole life.”
“Eliana, I have treated you kindly.”
Every word Althea said felt like a knife stabbing Eliana’s heart.
Her real daughter, after passing, did not even have a grave, yet she foolishly raised the mistress’s child for four years.
If her daughter’s spirit was still around, seeing her own mother treat others so well, yet ignore her, how painful would it be?
And the one who caused all of this was Althea!
In an instant, only strong killing intent stayed in Eliana’s eyes. She took the fruit knife from the bedside table and moved to attack her.
“Althea, you made my daughter die in pain, then you also cannot live!”
Before the knife went into Althea’s body, she shouted loudly first. “Bryson, Eliana wants to kill me, save me!”
The next moment, Bryson showed up behind her, while shielding Althea, with the other hand pushing Eliana down to the floor.
“Have you lost your mind?! Trying to kill someone at home, Eliana, do you want to become a killer and go to prison!”
Eliana was hit until her ears rang, buzzing.
Before, the wives in that group saw that she had no family support, so they picked on her everywhere.
There was even a time she got slapped.
After Bryson found out, he went to the other person’s house that same night, cut off the other person’s hand, and forced the other person’s company to go bankrupt.
So it was not because of love, it was only because the one who bullied her was not Althea.
Eliana raised her gaze and looked straight at him, asking, “Bryson, Althea is not as easy and gentle as you think. Just now, she told me herself. Our child was thrown into the water in the backyard for four years. If you don’t believe, you can look at the surveillance in the room!"
Althea’s heart grew tight; she did not expect there was a camera set up in the bedroom.
Bryson frowned, just about to talk, when he saw Hera standing by the door.
Bryson called her over.
“Hera, were you outside the whole time? You tell Dad what just happened in the room? Who is lying?”
Hera raised her eyes to the three adults ahead of her, then pointed at Eliana and said, “Dad, it was Mommy Eliana who is lying.”
Eliana’s heart dropped hard.
This was the child she had taken care of for four years, truly heartless.
“Hera, mom always reminded you, a person should be truthful, you were not. One day, you will answer for what you did.”
Bryson felt displeased with Eliana’s present state and said coldly, “Stop, even a child you want to frighten, you still won’t accept your bad intent?”
“What you said is true. A person should be truthful; you were not, so you must also take the punishment.”
Eliana had not even responded when the maids had already rushed forward and pushed her down to kneel on the floor.
“If you lie, you should be punished with slaps, which also shows a good example to the child.”
“99 slaps, not a single one can be skipped.”
Without allowing Eliana to say anything, the maids hit her hard, and she only felt her face burning with pain.
By the 33rd slap, blood had come from the corner of Eliana’s mouth.
At the 66th slap, her face had puffed up like a pig’s head, and she could no longer speak properly.
By the last, 99th slap, Eliana had already been left with only half her strength, falling to the ground in deep sadness.
She watched the man’s back as it slowly moved farther away.
The promises he once gave were also close to disappearing.
“Eliana, marry me. I will not let you suffer any pain.”
“Eliana, your younger brother is my younger brother too. I will care for him for life.”
“Eliana, let’s have a child. I will love her like a little princess.”
Bryson, ah, Bryson, not one of those promises from before had you fulfilled.
If she had one more chance, she would rather die together with her younger brother than marry him.
Chapter 6
Eliana lay unconscious on the bed for a full day and night.
When she woke, she was still a little confused.
Bryson was applying medicine to her at the bedside.
When she first entered the house, she had been slapped by Celia for doing something wrong, and at that time, Bryson had also sat by her bed like this to treat her.
Back then, she could see the pain in his eyes, but now?
Was it guilt?
Before Eliana could speak, Bryson spoke first.
“You are an adult. You should be a role model for the child, don’t use such lies and framing tricks again.”
Eliana smiled weakly.
The man did not even verify; he only listened to one side and convicted her.
Did he trust that mother and daughter so much?
“Bryson, you didn’t see it yourself; on what grounds do you say I am lying?”
Bryson’s hand paused while applying the medicine. “Eliana, children do not lie.”
“Even if she really lied to me, what you should think about is why she didn’t stand by you. After all, you raised her for four years, didn’t you?”
Eliana turned her gaze away and stopped looking at him.
Yes, if her own daughter were still alive, she would never treat her like this.
It was just a pity her child had died and would never return.
And the real culprit was still free.
Eliana pushed Bryson aside and said coldly, “I’m a bit tired; you should go out first.”
Her attitude was so distant that Bryson did not bother to stay.
He stood up and turned to leave.
Eliana took out her phone and checked the time.
There were still two and a half days left; she could leave and endure a little longer.
Eliana slept drowsily through another afternoon, and at night she was woken by a call from the funeral home.
“Miss Hamilton, we finally reached you. Your younger brother’s ashes have already been taken by a woman sent by your husband, we are informing you.”
Eliana, who had just been half-asleep, immediately became fully awake.
“A woman? What is her name? Is it Althea?”
The person on the other end checked and replied, “Yes, it is that name.”
Eliana felt uneasy, and she lost control.
“Those are my younger brother’s ashes. On what grounds did you give them to someone else without my permission?”
The staff explained, “Miss Hamilton, your younger brother’s ashes have been kept with us for too long. Our space is limited, and we have been calling you, but you didn’t answer, so we contacted your husband.”
After saying this, the staff gave no further explanation and hung up.
The reason the call could not go through was that she had been unconscious.
Now that she had just regained some awareness, what awaited her was such bad news.
She called Bryson again and again, but he never picked up.
In the end, Eliana had no choice but to change clothes and go to the company to find him.
Since the swelling on her face had still not gone down, it drew a lot of attention when she walked into the company.
“Isn’t that Mrs. Snyder? Why does her face look so puffed up like a pig?”
“I heard she got jealous of Miss Althea, and after President Snyder found out the truth, he slapped her 99 times.”
“Tsk. I knew it, there’s no ugly duckling turning into a swan. Even if she married President Snyder, her life is worse than ours.”
The harsh voices made Eliana pause. She turned around and looked at them coldly.
The employees lowered their heads and became quiet.
So, in the eyes of these outsiders, everyone knew Bryson did not love her.
Eliana did not bother with them. She turned and went upstairs.
Before she entered the office, she heard loud voices from the lounge nearby.
“This time, being chosen as an environmental ambassador is all thanks to Miss Hamilton. If she hadn’t kindly donated her younger brother’s ashes, I wouldn’t have had this chance.”
The host smiled and asked, “It seems Miss Althea and Mrs. Snyder are very close. Otherwise, why would she donate her own younger brother’s ashes to be turned into bread to feed seagulls?”
Outside the door, Eliana’s knees gave way, and she dropped to the floor.
The secretary behind her was also shocked. “Ma’am, why are you here?”
The meeting room door opened. Eliana stared at the fake person inside and demanded, “My younger brother’s ashes… You turned them into bread to feed seagulls, didn’t you?”
Chapter 7
Bryson’s face showed slight unease when he spoke to the media.
“That’s all for today’s interview. I have some personal matters to deal with, so I won’t keep you any longer.”
When the reporters left, they went past Eliana with a look of pity.
Now, even strangers saw her as pitiful.
After everyone had gone, Bryson stepped forward and tried to explain.
“Eliana, Althea needs a public image to depend on. Your younger brother’s remains happen to provide a chance. It can promote environmental ideas and also allow her to appear before the public openly.”
“When someone dies, nothing remains. This way, at least your younger brother can be known by everyone and praised as a hero. Isn’t that a good thing?”
Bryson moved closer, intending to help her up, but she pushed him away hard.
“Bryson, stop saying all these grand words!”
“That’s my younger brother. If you want to support Althea, why don’t you use your own family’s ashes? What right do you have to use my brother’s?”
The child was not hers, and her younger brother was gone.
Now, she couldn’t even keep his ashes.
She no longer wanted to live such a painful life.
She struck him wildly, but Bryson, irritated, pushed her away.
“Have you lost your mind? Even if the country recognizes Althea as an environmental ambassador, what are you making a scene for?”
“It’s already done. The ashes are gone. What else do you want?”
“Eliana, the only person you can depend on now is me. If you keep causing trouble like this, don’t blame me for not wanting you anymore!”
Eliana mockingly laughed.
Yes, she had nothing left. There was nothing more she could lose.
She lifted her gaze and looked straight at the man with deep hatred.
“Bryson, those who betray true feelings will suffer for it.”
“You will pay for what you’ve done. You definitely will.”
For some reason, when Bryson met Eliana’s eyes, his heart suddenly felt uneasy.
It felt as if she had truly given up, as if she no longer wanted him.
But soon, he convinced himself.
No, Eliana cared about love the most. She could never leave him. She was just too emotional right now.
But to secure his position as the head of the family, he still ordered people to take Eliana home and lock her up.
He said Eliana needed to settle down.
That night, Bryson did not return home and instead took Althea to another state to travel.
Meanwhile, Eliana was in the backyard, burning all the things they once had, one by one.
The necklace Bryson had given her melted.
The wedding photos they took together were ripped.
The love letters he once wrote were burned.
Everything in her life related to Bryson, she burned it all away.
The strong firelight shone on Eliana’s face as she slowly rose.
All of this needed to end.
But to her surprise, the moment she got up, Hera ran over from the side and pushed her into the pond.
Eliana could not swim; although the pond was not deep, it could still take her life.
Eliana desperately called out for help, but Hera spoke coldly from the edge.
“The helpers have all left. No one will come to save you.”
“You took away dad, made my mom become the mistress, then you should die.”
Eliana’s heart felt like it was held tight by a big hand, hurting and shaking.
This was the child she raised for four years, truly not even as good as a dog.
After struggling for who knew how long, Eliana finally closed her eyes, and her body slowly sank down.
The water in the pond was very cold; her child, who died, stayed there for four years, must have been very cold, right?
……
After Eliana woke up again, she was already inside the hospital.
The one who had rescued her was Jared.
Jared had gone to another place two days earlier, had just returned, and learned about what happened to Eliana.
When he went to the Snyder family, he happened to witness that moment.
Eliana had just tried to turn her body when a sharp pain came from her lower belly.
Jared walked closer and said, “You just had a miscarriage, don’t move.”
Eliana looked at the man in shock. “Miscarriage?”
“The doctor said you stayed in the water too long, there was not enough oxygen, being able to survive is already lucky, the child could not be saved.”
Eliana shut her eyes in pain.
Four years earlier, her child had died.
Now, her child had been ended by the mistress’s child through her own hands.
‘Bryson, is this what you wanted?’
Eliana felt pain rise again and again in her chest. She held it down and asked, “How is the divorce matter set up?”
Jared placed the court summons into Eliana’s hand.
“Send this out. Once the court hearing starts, this marriage has to end.”
Tears fell from the sides of Eliana’s eyes as she gripped the court summons hard.
“Alright, this matter, I will send it myself.”
“My younger brother’s ending, the cause of that child’s death four years ago, and this child’s life, they must give an answer too.”
“This time, I will definitely not be soft-hearted. I want justice for myself and my family.”
“And Bryson and them must also pay the price!”
