Chapter 3

The next day, I went to work with Julian.

The design department is always busy, and overtime is expected at any moment.

This only makes it easier for Julian to cheat, doesn’t it? No wonder he agreed so readily.

Eliot is highly competent and keeps his personal and professional life separate.

During my month in Eliot’s team, we traveled together on business trips quite often.

At department gatherings, I would often sit next to him in the photos.

In reality, we didn’t have much interaction outside of work, and one day, by chance, I discovered that he had a fiancée, and they were getting married soon.

Not many people in the company knew about this.

When I posted the group photo from the department dinner on my social media, I made sure it was visible only to Tina.

After returning to the office from a business trip, I would often catch Tina giving me malicious looks.

But don’t worry, the real drama is just beginning.

After Julian had worked at the company for a full month, I privately approached Eliot.

“Mr. Haines, I’ll get straight to the point. I want to steal you away,” I said slowly.

Eliot looked a bit taken aback.

“Aren’t you planning to go back to Cypress City next year to get married and settle down?” I continued.

He nodded.

“This is my friend’s company in Cypress City. I’ve recommended you to her. You’re too talented to be stuck at Julian’s company.”

I said with a hint of regret.

I handed him my friend’s business card.

“This company speaks for itself, no need for further introduction.”

It’s a highly reputable design firm, almost a no-brainer decision.

“You can just reach out to her.”

Eliot seemed like he wanted to say something else, but I nodded and left first.

Now, it was just a matter of waiting for the right moment to act.

The next day, Eliot handed in his resignation to Julian.

Tina immediately smelled the change and came running.

I was pretending to make coffee in the break room.

I saw Tina grab Eliot’s hand, her voice dripping with sweetness as she said, “Eliot, why are you resigning?”

Eliot quickly shook off her hand and said, “I’m moving to Cypress City to settle down. I just found a job opportunity there.”

“Where are you planning to work?” Tina pressed on, not willing to give up.

“I haven’t finalized anything yet, but I’ve got a lead from someone I know at Apex Design.”

“Apex Design? That’s a top-tier design company! Who referred you?” Tina’s eyes lit up.

“What’s it to you?” I stepped in and said.

Tina shot me a look of hatred as soon as she saw me.

“As the boss’s wife, isn’t it a bit inappropriate to steal employees for another company? Does Mr. Shaw know about this?” Tina said in a feigned innocent tone.

“Boss’s wife? Isn’t that what you’ve been wanting to be? I’ll gladly let you take over,” I said lightly.

“You! What do you mean by that!” Tina instantly reacted like a cockroach that had just been stepped on.

“Nothing.” I slowly walked out of the break room, ignoring Tina’s shouts from behind.

Soon enough, Julian found out about the little drama. When I walked into his office, I saw Tina crying with tears streaming down her face.

“Clara, are you still misunderstanding what happened last time?” Julian said, suppressing his anger.

“No, what are you talking about? I’ve already forgotten about it,” I said, feigning innocence.

“Then what did you mean by what you said in the break room?” Tina snapped.

“What did I say? Who heard it?” I shook my head.

“You!” Tina glared at me with venom in her eyes.

“Then what’s this about you stealing company employees for other firms?” Tina thought she had caught me red-handed.

“Sorry, but I’m about to get married and settle in Cypress City. Mrs. Shaw was just doing me a favor,” Eliot said as he entered the room.

“You’re getting married, Eliot? But I’ve never heard you mention a girlfriend!”

Tina’s eyes went wide in shock, as if struck by lightning.

Her big, dark eyes were brimming with tears, clearly heartbroken.
