Chapter 2

After I finished speaking, Derrick's face was filled with hidden anger.

Without caring about their reaction, I went to the room to pack my stuff to make room for Katrina.

Seeing me leave, Katrina sat aside and gently patted the back of his hand.

"Aria didn't mean to hurt you. Don't be angry. I will explain it to her when she comes out. Besides, you declined her application for the job was a wise decision. The internship will take up most of her time and energy, and she won't be able to take care of Beth," said she.

I quickly packed her luggage, and when I came out of my room, Derrick was totally appeased by her.

As he saw my suitcase, he sneered with pressed lips.

I walked towards the door, and Katrina picked up the card and forced it into my hand.

I threw the card away. "Take back your hypocritical offering!"

Derrick immediately stood up and rushed over, hugging Katrina in his arms.

He said, "Do you know what you are talking about? Are you losing your mind? We have spent the whole day painstakingly taking the wedding dress photos for you, and this is how you thank us?"

When I heard his blame, tears suddenly welled up in my eyes.

All the negative feelings I had suppressed in my heart burst out at this moment.

I said, "Tell me, does your wedding dress photo shot contradict my application for the job in your company? You know so well how much effort I spend in order to get this job!"

I added, "I was studying the previous project of the company even when I was taking care of my mom in the hospital, and when I finally qualified for the internship, you deprived this chance of me! I have made myself outstanding from so many graduates with my own ability and hard work, I..."

In the end, the tears made me unable to continue.

However, Derrick looked increasingly impatient as I cried out what I had suffered.

"I just wanted to ease your burden so that you could focus on taking care of Beth instead of being distracted by work! Compared to a married woman like you, I'm more suitable to feed our family. Besides, if you are really as competent as you claim to be, you can still find plenty of good jobs after Beth recovers!" he said.

He continued, "However, the Moore family can only rely on Katrina. If she is unemployed, her whole family will have no income! Can't you show a little mercy to your best friend and give this job to her?"

I never thought Derrick would say this to me.

At that moment, I stared at him in disbelief.

The man who once promised to work hard with me in this city now didn't show any trace of the love he once had for me.

Time was really a horrible carver that could reshape a decent man into a bastard.

Seeing that I didn't say anything, he continued in a stern voice, "Now that your mother is sick, can't you stay at the hospital to take care of her instead of going to work? Or do you value your job more than your mother's life?"

"You already knew the wedding dress photos were fake, so stop making such a sully face. All I did was for you!" he said.

His questions one by one hammered my heart and made my chest ache.

After a moment, I said desperately, "Derrick, have you forgotten that my mother can see your Instagram?"

"You have forgotten the reason she came to this city for medical treatment was to make sure that I could find a job before she left, haven't you?" after saying that, I laughed out loud at myself.

"Sorry, I forget you have devoted yourself to taking the wedding dress pictures with my best friend! I shouldn't bother you with these trivial things!" I said.

I thought maybe Derrick could reconsider giving me a chance to get the job in his company out of guilt after I pointed out all his faults.

But when Derrick heard what I said, he was like a cat whose tail was stepped on.

He immediately stamped with rage.

The next second, he held Katrina in his arms and yelled at me angrily, "Don't use your mother to pressure me! How could she know it when she was so fucking sick?! You must have told her!"

"You won't stop nagging unless you can get this job, right? Well, I'll explain to your mother in person why I didn't give you the job! Are you satisfied?!" as he spoke, his saliva splattered on my face.

After venting his anger, he still couldn't calm down.

Seeing this, Katrina was so scared that she started to cry and hurriedly explained, "Can you guys stop arguing? I'm going to the hospital right now with my chatting records with Derrick to explain to Beth that we took the picture only in order to get the subsidy the company prepared for the married couples who are both its employees!"

"Aria, I didn't mean to take your job. Can you stop being mad? I'll take the card and explain to Beth. She will understand me, and if she is still unsatisfied with my explanation, I'll just quit my job!" she said.

I didn't expect that Beth would be framed by her even though she had passed away.

Before my mind could catch up with my body, I slapped Katrina on the face.

Chapter 3

Almost at the same time as I raised my hand, Derrick kicked me hard in the stomach.

In an instant, all I could feel was the sharp pain, and cold sweat broke out on my forehead.

Then, I lost balance and fell on my suitcase.

However, he turned around and looked at Katrina with concern.

"Are you okay? Let me see your face. I'll get you some ice later," he said.

Then, he glared at my twisted face due to the pain and said disdainfully, "Aria Clark, I warn you, if you keep acting like a crazy bitch, I'll kick you out of this building!"

"Don't you even think about getting into the company. There's no position for an insane woman like you!" he said.

I was in so much pain that I couldn't utter a word, and I gasped in pain even when I tried to slightly move any part of my body.

Meanwhile, Katrina covered her face with her hands with tears streaming down her face.

She looked at me in panic but still insisted on explaining to me.

"I'm sorry, I don't know what I said got your nerves. I'm sorry. I didn't expect it to turn out like this. I just wanted to help you. If Beth misunderstood my intentions, I'm really sorry..." she cried.

I forced myself to stand up with a sarcastic smile.

"Really? I thought your purpose was to let her misunderstand what you had done! Never have I heard that any company will grant the subsidy by the photo you post on Instagram. It took you a lot of effort to come up with this scheme under the excuse of helping me!" I said.

As soon as I finished, Derrick scolded me coldly.

"That's enough! Aria, don't think others are as despicable as yourself! Apologize to Katrina right now!" he said.

I stared into his eyes.

Such an accusation had appeared in our quarrel countless times after Katrina began to steal him from me.

When I asked why he helped Katrina with her homework, he blamed me for being unreasonably suspicious.

In order to help her draft a speech, he canceled our date and reprimanded me with the same words when I felt a little unsatisfied with that.

Now, I even had to give up my job and let another woman take wedding dress pictures with my husband! I couldn't stand being blamed when I pointed out their filthy deeds!

Antipathy gradually filled my face, and I found these two bastards in front of me like two strangers.

My fists were clenched so tightly under my sleeves that my knuckles were shivering with anger.

Katrina picked up the card and handed it to me, saying delicately, "Please, just take the card. I'll go to the hospital with you and explain everything to Beth."

As she said this, she reached out for my arm and prepared to walk with me so intimately like we used to.

The next second, I ripped the card out of her hand and smashed it in her face.

The edge of the card scraped her face, leaving a bloody scar.

After a scream, Derrick rushed over and pinched my neck tightly.

"Aria, how dare you hurt her in my house?! Apologize to Katrina now! Otherwise, I will divorce you today! As for your mother, I will tell her that you are morally corrupt and don't deserve any job in my company!" he said.

He shouted at the top of his lungs with scarlet eyes.

Katrina covered the wound on her face and cried out of grievance.

Derrick turned to check her situation, and when he saw the blood on her face, he even wanted to throttle me.

His voice was cold as he threatened me with his clenched teeth, "Aria, do you hear me? I said, apologize to her with your knees on the ground!"

His grip on my neck grew tighter and tighter, causing the oxygen in my chest to rapidly deplete.

Although my face began to turn purple due to the lack of oxygen, I still refused to give in.

Seeing that I was about to lose consciousness, Derrick released me fiercely.

I gasped for breath, with only hatred left in my desperate heart.

Katrina covered her wound and looked at me with tears in her eyes.

"No, I don't need you to apologize to me. I was wrong in the first place. I'm leaving. I'm going to resign now," she said.

"But please don't be angry, okay? I'll give you the position you want and look for another job..." she added.

After she finished speaking, she turned around and handed me the water that Derrick had just poured for her.

"Piss off. I don't need your fake kindness!"

I suddenly raised my hand and split the water on her body.

Her clothes were completely wet.

The anger that Derrick had just suppressed suddenly surged again.

He snatched the glass from my hand and smashed it on my head.

The glass shattered into pieces, and blood flowed down my forehead.

After momentary pain, numbness filled my body.

Seeing the blood gushing out from my head, Derrick finally calmed down.

"Aria, I have never seen such an ungrateful bitch like you! I wish Katrina had never known you so that her kindness wouldn't have been paid by your curse! You should just rot with your mother in the hospital!" he said.

I heard his curse and suddenly burst into uncontrollable laughter.

The blood flowed along my face to the corners of my mouth.

Derrick said coldly, "I originally planned to employ you the next time, but now, the mental hospital is more suitable for you, you crazy woman!"

I just continued laughing until I lost all my strength.

"So, I guess I should appreciate you for letting me be an intern under your mistress' control rather than be a formal employee, right?" I said.

Derrick's sanity almost collapsed during my questioning.

"You begged for that job just now and act like a spoiled child when I have satisfied all your demands! My kindness is in vain! I'd rather give this job to a dog, at least it can wag to me in gratitude!" he said.

Then, he called the HR manager of his company, "Please remove Aria from the next intern list and never even consider hiring her in the future!"

All his movements now were hilarious to me.

"Since you can't stand me anymore, let's get a divorce," I said.

Derrick was enraged by the word divorce. Veins in his temples bulged with anger, and he kept nodding his head.

He said, "Okay, then I'll tell your mom that I'll divorce you and will not shoulder the expense of her medical treatment!"

Then, he took out his cell phone and called Beth.

Before I could stop him, he had got through Beth's phone.

He said, "Beth, I was the one who fired Aria. The wedding dress photos were fake, but our divorce is real! I can't stand this lunatic!"

After a while, a nurse hesitantly replied to him, "But the patient has died, and her phone was left in the hospital. If you are her family member, please come to the hospital and take it back."
