Chapter 1

On the day of SAT, my husband was going to personally take our son to the examination room, but he received a call halfway and said he had to leave for an urgent matter.

He left our son on the road and asked me to take our son there.

I was waiting for surgery in the hospital. After receiving the call, I had to postpone the surgery, endure the pain, and rush over to pick up my son.

My son finally arrived at the examination room, but was 15 minutes late and could not enter.

He couldn't accept it and suffered an acute heart attack and was taken away by ambulance.

The only quick-acting heart pill that could save my son was kept by my husband's assistant and could only be obtained with his consent.

When I called him, I heard the voice of his ex-girlfriend, Lisha Bates.

"Charlie is cooking for me. What's wrong?"

Ignoring her brag, I was anxious to save my son and spoke urgently.

"Ask Charlie to answer the phone. Our son is in danger in the intensive care unit. He needs the quick-acting heart-saving pills."

Soon, my husband's sarcastic voice came from the phone.

"Don't pretend to be pitiful and make up lies because of jealousy.

"My son is taking SAT. If you curse him again, I will be rude!"

After saying that, he hung up the phone.

I called him many times, but he never answered. And then his phone was turned off.

Lisha sent me a photo to show off. My husband, Charlie Hale, was helping her peel shrimps with a focused and gentle look.

On that same day, my son died due to failed rescue efforts.

He left me forever.

"The patient is in a very critical condition. Didn't you say you have a quick-acting heart-saving pill? Can you give it to the patient now?"

The attending physician walked out of the intensive care unit with a serious look.

"A sudden heart attack is extremely serious. If the patient is not treated within two hours, his life will be in danger!"

Two hours?

I was frozen.

My lips couldn't stop trembling. "Doctor, please help stabilize my son's condition. I'll contact someone to send medicine now!"

I was anxious when my son was in danger.

I hurriedly reached for my phone. My legs became weak, and I almost fell.

The doctor took a look at my pale face and kindly reminded me.

"You look weak. Get a checkup some time."

I nodded, but didn't have time to think about myself.

I called Charlie over and over again.

His cell phone was off.

I was so anxious that I broke out in cold sweats. My son's life was in danger. Charlie did not answer the phone. I could only contact his assistant, Tom.

"Mrs. Hale, I'm sorry. I want to help you, but this medicine is expensive. I have to get Dr. Hale's consent before I can do so."

Tom said that he didn't dare to act on his own.

It was because all the drugs in the laboratory were registered. Charlie's consent must be obtained before they could be prescribed.

I understood Tom.

But there was no other way. My son’s condition was critical. I must get the quick-acting heart-saving pills immediately.

I asked Tom to tell me Charlie's location.

Two minutes later, he sent a location, showing that Charlie was in a hotel.

I drove to the hotel and was about to rush in. I ran into Lisha holding Charlie's arm and walking out of the hotel affectionately.

Charlie always frowned when he saw me.

But when facing his ex-girlfriend, Lisha, he was so gentle.

At this moment, I didn’t have time to care about these. I just want to get the quick-acting heart-saving pills as soon as possible to save my son.

"Charlie! Give me the quick-acting heart-saving pills!"

As soon as he saw me, Charlie instantly turned cold and frowned again.

"Fiona, are you done yet?

"I've already told you that Lisha has no one to rely on in this city. I was just helping her, but I didn't expect you to follow us!!"

He looked at me with disgust.

Without even asking, he was certain that I rejected Lisha.

He me here and thought I was following them.

I sneered in my heart.

My husband cheated on me, but I was not cheap.

What was more, I didn't even want to follow them.

Since Lisha treated Charlie as a treasure, then I didn’t want him.

Now, I just wanted my son to be safe.

I didn't argue with him and got straight to the point.

"I didn't follow you. Come with me to get the medicine. Sam has a sudden heart attack and is in a very dangerous condition. There's only one hour left. Come with me to the hospital!"

I reached out to pull Charlie, but he pushed me away.

He frowned.

Lisha stood beside Charlie, with a sardonic smile.

"Fiona, I know you blame me for occupying your husband, but we are just friends now. Even if you want to take him away, just tell me directly. Why do you have to say such cruel words and curse your own son?"

What?

After Lisha finished speaking, she looked at Charlie tenderly.

"Charlie, don't blame Fiona. She must be upset seeing you spend so much time with me. And don't blame her for being jealous of me. If it were me, I would be even more sad."

How vicious!

She convicted me with just a few words and said that I was jealous of her.

If I wasn't so eager to save my son, I would beat her up!

Chapter 2

After hearing what Lisha said, Charlie immediately took a step back, as if I was dirty. He was deliberately keeping a distance from me.

His eyes were full of disgust and disdain.

"Fiona, I didn't expect you to become so crazy now.

"In order to get me to go back, you even cursed my son to get sick!

"The doctor clearly said that Charlieg's heart disease will not recur. He is no different from a healthy child now. Don't lie!"

I frozen.

He was right. The doctor did say that.

If nothing unexpected happened, Sam would no longer have any signs of heart disease and basically not need quick-acting heart-saving pills.

But Charlie suddenly broke his promise and left Sam on the way to SAT.

If Sam hadn't be late, he wouldn't be so upset by this incident and suffer a sudden heart attack.

"Charlie! Everything I said is true."

"Even if outsiders don't know, you should know me. Sam is more important than my life. How could I curse him?

"It was because you left him that Sam was late for SAT. That’s why Sam got upset and that’s what happened."

As soon as I finished speaking, Lisha smiled secretly.

I lost my temper.

I slapped her in the face. "Is it that funny?"

Lisha didn't expect that I would actually hit her. She screamed, covered her face, and hid behind Charlie, pretending to be aggrieved.

"Charlie, Sam is such a good kid. I like him. How could he be angry with you and cause such a scene just because you abandoned him halfway?

"I think this is a lie..."

Lisha deliberately led Charlie in the wrong direction, making Charlie think that I was deliberately making up a lie.

When Charlie saw me slapping Lisha, his face turned cold on the spot and he held her in his arms.

The look he looked at me became increasingly cold, as if he was facing an enemy.

"Fiona! What are you doing here? Aren't you ashamed?

"Go back quickly!

"I'm warning you. If you dare to harm Lisha again, don't blame me for divorcing you!"

After saying this, Charlie hugged Lisha lovingly. The two of them got into the car and drove away.

I ran after the car like crazy.

"Charlie! Stop!

"You can't leave! You have to give me the medicine, otherwise my son will be in danger!"

Lisha turned around and saw me through the rear window of the car.

She smiled slightly, leaned over and whispered in Charlie's ear. The driver drove faster.

They left me far behind in an instant.

Because I ran too fast, I lost my balance and fell.

A bloody taste also filled my throat.

I stared blankly at the disappearing vehicle, and an idea in my mind became more and more firm.

Charlie didn't believe me.

He refused to let his assistant get the medicine.

Then I would get it myself.

I didn't go home or go back to the hospital. Instead, I drove directly to the laboratory where Charlie worked.

I had come along a few times to deliver things before. Last time Sam had a sudden heart attack, I also came to get medicine.

I remember it was in the cabinet above the safe.

Taking advantage of the lunch break, there were not many people in the laboratory, I sneaked in and came to the safe.

There was a combination lock.

I tried several times. I tried our wedding anniversary, my birthday, Charlie’s birthday, and my son’s birthday... None of them was right.

I saw Lisha's Ins and saw the date when she showed her birthday gifts.

I tried again.

I opened.

I was so disappointed at that moment.

After eighteen years of marriage, Charlie said that he only loved me and wanted to have children with me, but he had never forgotten his ex-girlfriend.

When he learned that Lisha was abandoned by her husband and divorced, he resolutely chose to help her unconditionally.

In fact, I had already lost hope in him when he abandoned us countless times in order to help Lisha solve various trivial issues.

But it didn’t matter. I still had a son.

I got the medicine. I would save him.

Then I would file for divorce.

I happily opened the cabinet above the safe and was about to take out the bottle of quick-acting heart-saving pills.

But I was surprised to find that it was gone.

The familiar packaging box of quick-acting heart-saving pills was replaced by a small white bottle.

Tom happened to pass by. I asked him what it was.

Tom looked at me timidly and spoke hesitantly.

"This is a skin repair cream that Dr. Hale developed specifically for Miss Bates. A few days ago, Miss Bates complained about her bad skin. Dr. Hale took it very seriously and worked for several nights to develop it."

I was filled with anger.

I didn't care how much time Charlie spent on this.

I just wanted to know where my son's medicine was.

Chapter 3

There was the sound of high heels hitting the ground behind me.

Lisha, wearing a white hip skirt, came up from behind me with a smile and snatched the thing from my hand.

"Fiona, I'm so sorry. This is mine."

Her smile was full of provocation.

Charlie had always been strict about his work. No outsiders were allowed to come in his research.

Even I, his wife, had only been here a handful of times in the 18 years we had been married.

But Lisha was here.

She could eat here, walk around here freely, and even her cosmetics could be placed in the most important position.

But I didn’t want to care about these anymore.

I gritted my teeth and asked her, "Where are the quick-acting heart pills that were originally placed here?"

Lisha smiled, "I threw it away."

She kept smiling.

"Charlie said that Sam is fine and the quick-acting heart pills are annoying, so I threw them into the trash can."

I was shocked.

I was going crazy.

"What did you say?"

Lisha's smile was so dazzling that it even hurt me.

The quick-acting heart-saving pills were the only hope for curing Sam.

But at this moment, I was desperate.

I lost all hope.

Lisha definitely did it on purpose.

Just when I was about to teach Lisha a lesson, I suddenly got a call from the hospital.

"Mrs. Hale, your son is dying. You should come back soon and see him for the last time."

I pushed Lisha away and rushed to the hospital like a madman.

When I arrived, Sam had already become a corpse.

His body began to go cold.

I hugged him and cried.

Three days later, I was heartbroken. I handled my son's funeral by myself.

Watching Sam being cremated, I still felt like I was dreaming.

I raised my son for 18 years, and he finally grew up.

Just a week ago, he told me confidently that he had worked hard for many years and would definitely be admitted to a good university.

It had only been a few days.

He turned into ashes and was in an urn.

For two weeks, Charlie stayed with Lisha and never went home once.

I held my son's urn and drank every day.

It wasn't until two weeks later that Charlie called me.

His voice was as cold as ever.

"Tomorrow is my sister's birthday party. She was much loved. My mother asked you to bring Sam back to the Hale house so that we can celebrate together."

There was a faint sound of a woman's breathing beside him.

Before I even got a chance to say anything, he hung up the phone.

I stared coldly at my phone.

I couldn't help but hug my son's urn tightly.

I would take my son there.

And I would make you pay!

The next day, when I arrived at the Hale house, I found that everyone was there, even Lisha was there.

Lisha was hugged by Audrey Hale affectionately and was about to be brought to Charlie.

"Lisha, I've always felt that you and my brother are meant to be together. I'm sure that only you can be my sister-in-law!

"I didn't expect that after all these years, you would be with my brother!"

Audrey spoke without thinking. Everyone in her family had gotten used to it.

When she said such inappropriate words, everyone thought it was normal and even laughed.

I was the only one standing by and watching them coldly.

Audrey seemed to notice my gaze. She turned around and glared at me with disgust.

"Fiona, why are you being so rude?

"My mom and my brother both asked you to bring Sam over. Why are you the only one here? Where's Sam?"

Hearing Audrey's words, Charlie immediately changed his face.

"Fiona, what's wrong with you? Where's Sam?"

I spoke coldly, looking around at all of them with a cold gaze.

Then I looked at Charlie's face. "You still remember your son?"

Charlie was exposed and felt a little embarrassed.

"Fiona, today is Audrey's birthday. Why are you making a fuss?

"If Sam doesn't come, you should go home!"

Charlie gave me the cold shoulder without hesitation, and the people around me were chattering and laughing.

Especially Audrey and Lisha, they looked at me with smug and provocative expressions, just wanting to see me make a fool of myself.

But I just smiled coldly. "Sam is here."

Everyone was quiet. They looked around but didn't see Sam.

Then they looked at me like I was crazy. "Is this woman crazy? Where is Sam?"

I took the dark, cold urn out of my bag and placed it in front of them.

"Here."
