Chapter 1
On Valentine's Day, my husband's female assistant, Kate Smith, updated a post on Instagram.
[On a business trip during the holiday, the hotel is fully booked. I am forced to share a room with the handsome CEO!]
In the photo, she took a selfie in a luxurious hotel room.
The man behind her showed a blurry silhouette wrapped in a towel only. With broad shoulders and a narrow back, he had tight muscles.
Someone commented, [He is so sexually attractive.]
Kate replied with a dog head emoji, saying, [Well, sleeping with him is worth a lot.]
I liked her reply.
A few minutes later, Kate called me, crying and saying that she was joking and that she didn't mean anything else.
Easton took the cell phone and mercilessly mocked me.
"You were angry because of a hotel suite?"
"Find something to do. Don't get busy suspecting people around me all day."
Then he turned to comfort Kate, saying, "Ignore her. She is going through menopause."
Listening to Kate's laughter, I silently hung up the call.
I had a crush on Easton for four years. We had been dating for four years. Two years had passed since we were married.
In the tenth year of Easton's loyal follower, I didn't want to be who I was anymore.
——
When Easton came home, I was happily eating chocolate cake.
Last time, he publicly mocked my chunky body and said that I would never be on par with Kate. Since then, I hadn't eaten sweets for half a year.
Easton walked over, took the cake unceremoniously, and threw it into a trash can.
"You're so fat, and you are eating."
He placed a box of gift-wrapped coffee in front of me.
"This is from Kate."
"The little girl was so scared that she almost deleted her account. She insisted on coming to apologize to you in person."
I looked at the words on the green packaging box, which indicated that coffee could help one lose weight and cool down, and said calmly, "Good coffee."
Easton glanced at me and handed me his cell phone.
"Make a phone call to thank her and apologize. This matter will be over."
"At your age, you don't understand etiquette as well as a girl in her twenties."
I sat still.
He pushed me and said, "She apologized to you. Why are you still acting like this?"
In a fit of anger, he pushed me with great force and touched the aged wound on my shoulder.
It was the injury left when I saved Easton in a car accident a few years ago.
I covered my shoulders, trembling with pain. My lips turned pale.
He was a little flustered, saying, "I'll go get some painkillers."
I looked at him meaningfully and wanted to stop him, but I held myself back.
A pregnancy test report had been in my bag for two days.
The doctor specifically reminded me to be cautious when taking medication during early pregnancy.
Originally, I planned to give him a surprise when he returned from his business trip. Now, it seemed unnecessary.
Easton hurriedly brought a medicine box and flipped through it a few times before stopping.
"Why isn't there any painkiller?"
His words came to an abrupt halt. I didn't miss the flash of guilt that crossed his face.
Suddenly, I remembered that Kate had mentioned in the comment section when replying to someone today.
[The President is so caring! Knowing my period was coming, he brought me painkillers!]
If it were usual, I would dig deep and ask if he had given the last box of medicine to Kate.
But this time, I didn't expose him.
I said, "I'll go buy one."
Easton held me back and said, "What are you messing with? I..."
Before he finished speaking, his cell phone rang.
He glanced at the caller ID and immediately answered it.
"What's wrong, Kate?"
Kate's voice came from the other end of the cell phone. It was with a crying tone.
"Easton! Come and save me quickly!"
"I came to the beer music festival alone. A few people surrounded me and started to touch me. It took me a lot of effort to break free..."
"Damn it. A bunch of beasts! Give me your location. I'll come over right now." Easton stood up abruptly.
"Sorry to bother you so late. Daisy will be mad at me again..."
"She dares?" Easton warned me with a glare.
Hanging up the call, he hurriedly walked to the front door to change his shoes.
"Easton," I called him.
He turned around and impatiently said, "Daisy Shawn, do you have any common sense? You heard it, didn't you? Kate is in danger..."
"You forgot your keys." I interrupted him.
"What?" He was stunned for a moment.
"You forgot to take your car keys." I pointed to the coffee table.
Easton took the car keys, hesitated to speak, and said in the end, "I'll go and see the situation. I'll buy medicine for you when I come back." Then he hurriedly left.
Chapter 2
Easton had been gone for a long time. He hadn't come back.
Time passed by every minute and second. I couldn't bear the pain. I ordered painkillers on a food delivery platform.
Just as I was about to put down my cell phone, I received a private message on Instagram.
It was a private account with a default avatar and a username.
The post about Kate living with the CEO was forwarded to me by this account.
I sighed.
"The little girl's thoughts are clear at a glance."
I clicked the link in the private message. The page redirected to a post that Kate had updated an hour ago.
She posted a video with a title. [My beloved is a world-renowned hero. He will come to protect me gloriously.]
According to Kate, those drunk hooligans had come to harass her again and threatened her with a knife.
Easton happened to arrive and blocked the knife for her in the chaos. Fortunately, the injury was not serious. He didn't need to go to the hospital.
At the end of the video, Kate filmed herself applying medicine to Easton. His good-looking profile face flashed by.
There was a comment below the video. [Such a handsome man... Why did you apply medicine to him only? Go into bed with him!]
Kate replied, {Well, folk, why are you more anxious than me? Give me some time. I promise to complete the task!]
Another netizen posted a photo and said, [Internet algorithm is so powerful. I was there today and captured the whole process. Is this you and the CEO, blogger?]
In the photo, Kate's face turned pale. Her clothes were disheveled, and she was tightly protected by Easton.
Easton endured the pain and looked at Kate in his arms determinedly and gently.
Suddenly, my heart ached.
A month ago, Easton called a group of people to go singing.
When I arrived at a karaoke bar, no one else had arrived yet. Easton said he and his colleagues would arrive late.
Not long after, a man pushed the door open. He was Easton's business friend, Matthew Moss.
Easton had mentioned him to me before, but I had no interaction with him.
During the conversation, Matthew unabashedly stared at me, sitting closer and closer to me.
When I had no way to retreat, he suddenly reached out and held me.
"You're so beautiful."
"You are much prettier than what Easton described."
I was stunned. I wanted to shout, but he covered my mouth.
"Easton said you don't look that great, but you're obedient. Whatever I do to you, it will be fine."
Matthew pinched the back of my neck, forcing me to get closer to him. Then he whispered in my ear with a frivolous tone, "I want to give it a try too."
Under the panic, I resisted violently.
The enraged man looked fierce and pressed the burning cigarette on the skin beside my collarbone.
I was in pain. I couldn't breathe, desperately rushing out of the door.
There was a commotion at the corner of the corridor.
A group of people surrounded Easton and Kate. They were walking towards me.
"Easton!" I called out to him.
He seemed to not hear me, holding Kate and entering the private box.
When passing by me, Kate glanced at me with a fake smile.
She wore a crystal-clear diamond necklace on her fair neck.
This necklace looked familiar.
When Easton went to France on a business trip, he took a photo of it, saying he would buy it for me.
Later, he said that he couldn't pass the customs with the necklace. Then there was no further story.
Late at night, Easton came back home with a strong smell of alcohol.
"Daisy, what's wrong with you tonight? Why did you leave first?"
Facing his dissatisfaction, I unbuttoned one button of my collar, revealing the blisters caused by burns.
He was surprised, asking with concern, "What happened?"
After I finished recounting what happened in the private box, he frowned and looked serious.
"Enough. Daisy!"
"I didn't expect that you would learn to use the tactic of pretending to be hurt to get my attention."
He pulled my hair and dragged me to the mirror, where I saw my messy hair and swollen eyes.
"Do you have delusions? Do you think you're a fairy?"
"Look at yourself. You are messy and dirty, like a sow. Matthew has seen many beautiful women. Why would he be interested in you?"
After saying that, he went to bed drunk, leaving me sitting in the living room and crying all night.
Afterward, Easton used a candlelight dinner as an apology for his drunken words.
I thought this matter had passed. When I saw the photo in Kate's comment section today, I vividly remembered the disdain in Easton's eyes when he looked at me back then.
I clenched my hands, my nails digging deep in my palms. Then I sent a message to my best friend.
[Do you know any familiar lawyers? I want to consult about getting divorced.]
Chapter 3
I was awakened by a phone call in the morning.
Easton's voice was crisp and cold on the cell phone.
"Come down. I'll take you to eat."
He had hung up the cell phone before I could even speak.
He had always been so self-centered.
I didn't want to complicate things before the divorce, so I went downstairs.
When Easton saw me, he suddenly remembered that he had forgotten to buy me the medicine.
"We'll stop by the pharmacy on the way."
"No need. It doesn't hurt anymore."
He breathed a sigh of relief and said, "That's good. Anyway, those injuries were from several years ago, so they shouldn't hurt much anymore."
My breath paused for a moment. I smiled faintly and said, "Yes."
When I had pushed Easton away back then, I had been knocked away.
I suffered multiple fractures throughout the body and soft tissue damage. I was experiencing frequent and unbearable pain until now.
Fearing that Easton would be guilty, I never told him how much it hurt.
But if he cared a little more about me, he could have noticed it.
Easton drove and talked about what had happened last night.
"I was about to come back, but Kate's emotions were unstable, so I stayed there a little longer. You don't mind, do you?"
I looked ahead and said, "Of course not. She's timid, so you should accompany her more. It's what you should do."
Easton suddenly slammed on the brakes, catching me off guard and causing my cell phone to fall to the ground.
I knew he was looking at me. I ignored him and bent down to pick up my cell phone. Then I picked up some lace underwear made up of a few ribbons.
If it had been before, I would have been on high alert with red eyes. I would have asked Easton why there was such a thing in the car.
But now, I didn't say anything. I calmly opened the storage compartment and put it in.
Easton was rarely embarrassed, saying, "... Sometimes, Kate would take my car to a yoga studio after work. She might have dropped it when changing clothes."
I nodded, looking calm.
While having breakfast, a college couple at the next table, who were almost finished eating, kept looking at us.
The girl couldn't help but lean over and ask Easton, "Excuse me... Are you the CEO in the blog post of Magic Girl Kate?"
Easton said, "What's up?"
The girl was a little excited, saying, "Oh my god, you're even more handsome than in the video!"
The girl asked, "Are you dating Kate?"
Easton looked at me, remained silent for a few seconds, and said, "Yes."
I smiled slightly with my head down, feeling a slight pain in my lower abdomen.
The girl followed his gaze and looked at me, feeling somewhat puzzled. She asked, "Then who is this...?"
"She is my sister," Easton quickly said.
The girl said before leaving, "You and Kate are so sweet. You must be together forever!"
After they left, Easton held my hand and comforted me, saying, "Daisy, don't be angry."
"Kate's CEO series videos are getting a lot of traffic right now. I'm just cooperating with her to make some funny skits."
"The little girl finally has so many fans. She's so happy. If I deny it, how will she face those fans in the future?"
I wasn't interested in his explanation, saying perfunctorily, "Hmm, I understand."
The discomfort in my abdomen became more and more intense. I covered my stomach with my hand. My face was pale.
After I endured the meal, Easton drove me home.
On the way, Kate called him.
"Easton! I'm in urgent need of your help!"
"I bought tickets for Disneyland today, but I can't get a taxi during the morning rush hour. I've been waiting for half an hour. My makeup is about to be in a mess. Can you take me there?"
She sounded like a flustered little animal.
Unconsciously, Easton's eyes revealed a hint of indulgence.
"Okay, I'll go to your building right now."
After hanging up the call, he looked at me and said, "Let's go there together."
"No, Easton!" I broke out in a cold sweat on my forehead, adding, "I feel very uncomfortable in my stomach. Please take me to the nearest hospital first."
"What did you just say?"
He looked gloomy with anger in his eyes.
"I'm afraid you will misunderstand us. I kindly invited you to come with me, but you took advantage of the situation."
"I should have known that you are inherently despicable. I treated you a little better, and you turned against me."
He parked the car by the side of the road.
"If you don't come with me to pick up Kate, then get off here."
"Easton, take me to the hospital. I'm bleeding!"
I felt severe pain in my lower abdomen. A burst of warm flow was gushing out.
"Where are you bleeding? Did you feel heartbroken when Kate called me?"
I looked at him, took a deep breath, and endured the pain to explain the situation at the moment.
"Easton, listen to me carefully. I'm pregnant. The bleeding may be caused by an ectopic pregnancy, so I need to go to the hospital for an examination."
Easton was stunned. The next second, he suddenly became furious.
"Daisy, do you have no shame? You're making up this kind of thing too?"
"We've been together for so long. You didn't get pregnant. Then you got pregnant when Kate called me?"
"Last time, you said my friend molested you. Now, you're saying you're pregnant. Do you love spreading rumors about yourself like this?"
He pointed at the car door and ordered, saying, "Get out."
"Aren't you bleeding? Get out of here quickly. Don't dirty my car. Kate will be here soon. She is used to sitting in the passenger seat and not elsewhere."
"... Fine." I closed my eyes and reached out to open the car door.
Easton grabbed my arm again, gritting his teeth and saying, "Daisy, we will get a divorce if you dare to get out of the car today!"
"A divorce?" I turned to look at him, adding, "Since you have this idea too, then it's simple. I've had a divorce agreement drafted by a lawyer. Remember to sign it when the time comes."
He loosened his grip, looking at me in disbelief.
"Are you serious?"
"Daisy, don't regret it!"
After saying that, he suddenly started the car.
Caught off guard, I was dragged for more than ten meters by the car door.
Amidst the exclamation of the people around me, I fell to the ground. The fading taillights of Easton's car gradually blurred in my sight.
Blood spread from under me.
