Chapter 1
My husband punished me—his pregnant wife, by forcing me to ride a drop tower fifty times on a typhoon day.
All because his mistress was stuck for five minutes.
"You broke Hailey's leg and now you want to kill her too?"
Only when his mistress needed a blood transfusion did my husband remember me.
"Helena's blood type matches Hailey's. Let's make her a blood bag for Hailey forever!"
Unfortunately, he didn't know that I had no more blood to give her.
I miscarried after the frequent crashes and died on the drop tower three days ago.
I died with my unborn child, bleeding out.
After becoming a spirit, I discovered everything was connected to the roller coaster accident many years ago.
Part 1
Blood was pouring from me as I clutched my stomach, dangling hundreds of feet in the air on a massive machine.
Steve's figure slowly became a tiny black dot. I shouted at him with all my might.
"Honey, please save me! Save our child!"
As if he heard my last plea, Steve stopped. But only to remove his suit jacket and drape it over Hailey's leg.
I completely lost my will to survive and fell into a coma.
As the typhoon approached, the amusement park would be closed for three days.
As the amusement park manager, I checked all the rides and prepared for the typhoon.
When I got to the drop tower, I saw Steve.
I found it odd. Steve owned the park and didn't need to check things himself.
"Helena, I asked Steve to bring me here."
Hailey, my husband's mistress, wheeled herself up to me.
"I haven’t played on the drop tower in ages. Suddenly, I really want to try it today."
"You know how my leg is," she sighed. "The drop tower is the only ride I can go on."
Speaking of her legs, Steve's face instantly darkened, probably recalling the accident six months ago.
Same place, same scene. Hailey unfastened her seatbelt and fell off before the machine could come to a complete stop, causing her legs to become disabled.
But she blamed me, saying that I pulled her down as I tried to save her.
The camera only captured the backs of us entangled together.
I knelt before Steve to explain, but he gave me a cold response.
"Hailey is a dancer. Her legs are her life. Losing them is akin to suicide."
"Helena, even jealousy should have its limits. At your level, you should go to a mental hospital to check your brain."
Steve indeed sent me to a mental hospital.
I was tortured inhumanly there. Half a month later, Steve finally let me out after his father pressured him.
However, I was left with severe depression, requiring long-term medication.
"Just once, okay? Be good, Hailey."
Steve's gentle voice pulled me back to reality. He had never spoken to me like that, so I was susceptible to it.
The giant machine rose and fell, and when it stopped, Hailey looked terrified.
"Steve, my skirt … it's stuck on the seat."
Steve hurriedly stepped forward and pulled a few times but couldn't budge. When he turned to me, his tone changed.
"Helena, come see this."
"How do you maintain these machines? If Hailey gets hurt again, can you handle the consequences?"
Without waiting for my explanation, he grabbed my collar and yanked me over.
Chapter 2
My phone fell to the ground, a patch of my scalp was ripped off and blood trickled down my neck.
Ignoring the pain, I checked on Hailey. But as I helped her, she clung to me and we both collapsed.
My head hit the ground and I couldn’t get up for a while.
Steve rushed over frantically, scooping Hailey up in his arms.
"Are you okay, Hailey? Are you hurt?"
He checked on the unharmed person in his arms, completely disregarding me as I lay bleeding on the ground.
"My leg. It hurts so much, Steve. It hurts, just like that day."
Steve carefully put Hailey in the wheelchair. Then he grabbed me, who was lying on the ground and couldn't move. His eyes were bloodshot.
Like an enraged beast seeing its enemy.
"Helena, breaking Hailey's leg once wasn't enough for you?"
"You vile woman, are you trying to kill her?"
He threw me into a ride's seat and slammed the safety bar down on me. Before I could sit properly, the bar hit my stomach, making my entire body spasm in pain.
"Honey, I ... my belly."
"Shut up!"
Steve snapped, pressing my lips together roughly. "Try calling me 'honey' one more time!"
He ignored my hands clutching my stomach, shoved the bar down harder, and then nodded to his assistant. "Start the ride, set it to fifty cycles."
"Continuously. Don’t stop."
Part 2
"This is just a little lesson for you."
"If you hurt Hailey again, I'll kill you."
After saying this, Steve took Hailey away.
I was trapped on the drop tower, tossed around by the giant machine.
The blood poured more and more beneath me, splattered on the metal of my seat by the fierce wind.
Fifty rounds later, the blue drop tower was scarlet with blood and looked ominous under the setting sun.
For the sake of my unborn child, I used every ounce of strength I had left to try and push open the safety bar and reach my phone on the ground to call for help.
But I couldn’t move it.
The bar was locked.
The typhoon was rising.
I died in the storm under the pressure of the pressure bar called "safety."
Steve didn't think about me until after Hailey cut her finger while cooking.
When my soul awakened, I was unexpectedly in a warm home.
The home I lived in for five years was now Steve and Hailey's love nest
"Honey, I cut my finger so badly and it's bleeding a lot."
Steve panicked when he heard this.
"We need to go to the hospital for a blood transfusion right away!"
I looked at her cut; it wasn't severe, hardly enough to need a transfusion.
I guessed that even the most minor injury could seem life-threatening in a lover's eyes.
Once, I had broken my bones.
Steve granted me five days off and he did the same for the nanny.
"We can’t let Helena just sit around. She loves work, so she can cook at home for a few days!"
We discovered Hailey's type B blood was in shortage at the hospital.
"The typhoon knocked down trees, causing pile-ups on the roads. There are too many injured and we’ve run out of B-type blood."
Upon hearing the news, Hailey's attending physician, Dr. Lawson, rushed over and said bluntly, "Don't make a fuss. Miss Smith's injury does not require a blood transfusion."
Hailey’s face flushed with embarrassment.
Chapter 3
I floated closer to look at her.
My memory seemed to have improved as a spirit, and I suddenly remembered that I had seen her somewhere before.
It wasn’t when she first met Steve, but much earlier …
My train of thought was interrupted by Steve’s raised voice.
"There's no danger now, but what if Hailey gets hurt again? What if we can’t find any matching blood in time? Her leg is already weak.”
"I nearly lost her yesterday, and it’s all because of that vile woman. I can’t risk even a one-in-a-million chance when it comes to Hailey!"
Dr. Lawson sighed, giving up the argument.
Then Steve's expression eased as if he had a sudden thought.
"Speaking of that woman, she's also B blood type."
"Go to Helena's house now, capture her, and prepare her as a blood bag for Hailey!"
Since discovering Steve and Hailey together, I have moved back into the tiny home where I lived with my parents.
It was run-down and small, but it held my happiest memories.
Steve seemed to be allergic to poverty. He started sneezing as soon as he stepped into the hallway.
He covered his mouth and nose with his sleeve, disdainfully kicking the door.
"Helena, get out!"
There was no reply, only footsteps. Impatient, he kicked open the door.
"I knew you were hiding here … "
He began, but his words trailed off.
A fierce wind swept through the room, smashing the windows. Glass was everywhere and a few terrified cats dashed in confusion.
"It's so her, playing tricks with a few cats in the room!"
"Let's go find her in the office. I wonder what she's working so hard for!"
All for you, Steve.
I felt a painful pang in my heart.
I had loved him for ten years.
Back then, a rollercoaster accident nearly shut down his amusement park. I gave up a well-paying job at another park, quit, and took over his struggling business, working through countless sleepless nights until I revived it. It became successful, eventually even opening branches overseas.
I thought that by helping him build his business, I could warm his heart just a little.
But he didn't even know that I'm allergic to cats.
Those stray cats were only seeking shelter from the storm in my room.
I followed him dazedly to the office, where someone was already waiting.
Part 3
Elios looked anxious and asked Steve, "Where is Helena? She didn't answer my phone call."
Elios was the most famous singer nowadays and my best friend.
Steve sneered, "I haven't asked you yet, where did you hide my wife?"
He pulled out his phone and opened social media, showing it to Elios.
"See for yourself. Helena just posted it, announcing her relationship with you!"
Elios stared in disbelief. Then he checked his phone, shaking his head.
"No way, I don’t see any such post here. Helena wouldn’t post something like that. Her feelings for you are sincere."
Steve scoffed, "She’s probably long tired of me! Seeing you’re popular, she likely planned to ride your fame ages ago!"
No, Elios, it's not me. I didn't do it!
My phone had fallen under the ride, soaked in blood.
I quickly leaned closer to see Steve's phone. It displayed my profile picture and my name.
