Chapter 3

Kyra kept complaining incessantly. I said nothing and simply threw the miscarriage report in her face.

She was about to get angry, but after seeing the report, she explained indifferently that the miscarriage was just an accident. She had accidentally fallen down the stairs while picking up Alan from the airport, which caused the miscarriage.

I sneered; she didn't even prepare a lie properly.

She probably didn't read it carefully; the report clearly indicated a voluntary abortion.

It was her freedom to pick up Alan, and even if she didn't tell me, it didn't matter. But that was our long-awaited child; she silently gave it up and still wanted to hide it.

If it weren't for that schemer Alan sending me the miscarriage report deliberately, I might have remained in the dark forever.

This was the first time in years that I initiated a cold war.

Given Kyra's spoiled princess temperament, how could she tolerate it?

Seeing that I wasn't responding, she became increasingly impatient.

"What do you mean? Don't you know how tired I am every day? Do you have to make a fuss over such a trivial matter?"

I was truly infuriated. "Trivial? Do you consider murder to be trivial?"

"I've already said that the child's condition was unstable, and the accident today just made it worse. Besides, we can have another one, so why do you have to say such harsh things?"

I looked at the woman in front of me in despair, unable to see her as the same person from two years ago.

The doctor said this might be Kyra's only child due to her health conditions. She must know her own body, and to say such things showed that she clearly didn't care about me at all.

If she didn't want our child, it meant she didn't want me.

My heart was completely dead.

I packed my things. Fortunately, it wasn't much. After two years of marriage, my belongings only filled one suitcase.

"If you agree to the divorce, let's meet at the City Hall at 9 a.m. on Monday."

"Get lost! If you have the guts, die outside!"

As I closed the door, a vase was thrown at me, shattering into pieces.

Over the weekend, I substituted for another security, sleeping in the security booth.

Kyra never made our relationship public at the company and never revealed her married status.

No one would expect a lowly security guard to be her husband.

But soon, I wouldn't be.

After the divorce, I would resign. Even though I had been a stay-at-home husband for years, I never stopped learning.

I completed my high school education through self-study. After resigning, I planned to pursue an adult undergraduate degree. With that educational stepping stone and my skills, I was not afraid of not surviving.

Chapter 4

But things didn't go as planned. On Monday morning, I was abruptly awakened by severe leg pain.

I planned to go to the hospital for an examination and messaged Kyra to postpone the divorce.

Then, dragging my painful leg, I limped into the building, intending to ask HR for leave.

As soon as I reached the door, I heard gossip coming from the office.

"Did you hear? Our company has a new General Manager surnamed Rose who just returned from Australia. He's tall and handsome. Seeing his face makes it hard to resist! If only I could have something with him, I'd die without regrets."

"Don't hold your hopes up. This Mr. Rose and Ms. Holmes are childhood friends. Mr. Rose has always been pursuing Holmes. This time, Holmes invited him over, clearly agreeing to his pursuit. What can you compare to Ms. Holmes?"

"Maybe it's mutual. Ms. Holmes hasn't had any scandals in years; maybe she's been waiting for Mr. Rose all along..."

At this, the bitterness in my heart was about to overflow.

Yeah, people who weren't part of that situation might have thought they were a great couple. But for me, the guy who the public had never recognized, it was probably best for me to just move on.

I composed myself and knocked on the door. After explaining my purpose, the HR lady agreed to my leave request and was about to approve my leave slip.

At that moment, a woman walked into the office. From what they said, she was Alan's personal secretary.

The woman looked me up and down, raised her eyebrows, and asked, "Are you Harry Grant?"

She took the leave slip from HR, glanced at it, and then tore it up.

"Today is Mr. Rose's first day. The security team must welcome him in the most grand manner. No one is allowed to take leave. You'd better get back to your post!"

I frowned and said, "I need to go to the hospital for my leg. My reason is valid. What right do you have to refuse me?"

"Hmph, the security booth is several hundred meters away. You managed to walk here, so I don't see any issue with your leg."

I was too lazy to argue with her and turned to leave.

I had never met her before, and her hostility towards me was clearly Alan's idea.

The pain in my leg was getting worse, and I didn't have time to waste on such petty people.

The woman's face lost its composure, and she yelled at my back, "If you dare step out of this building, it means you're defying the leadership. Don't even think about getting your salary for this month!"

I stopped. The woman had a look of "I knew you wouldn't dare," but she didn't expect me to take off my badge and throw it hard in her face.

"I quit! If you dare withhold my salary, you can expect a lawsuit!"

Chapter 5

I was seething with anger as I limped out of the building, focusing all my attention on the increasingly painful right leg, not noticing the business car approaching from the side.

The car suddenly honked when it was three meters away, startling me so much that I fell to the ground.

Immediately, the driver stuck his head out of the window and yelled, "Damn it, are you blind or deaf? Are you trying to get yourself killed?"

I ignored him and struggled to get up. The pain in my leg made it impossible to support myself, and after several attempts and breaking into a sweat, I still couldn't stand.

At that moment, the car door opened, and a pair of high-end leather shoes appeared in front of me.

Looking up, I saw Alan's contemptuous face. He spoke in a voice only the two of us could hear, mocking me.

"Oh, isn't this my ex-husband? What are you doing sitting on the ground? Did you get so scared when you heard I was back that your legs went weak?"

I struggled to stand and looked at him coldly.

Alan smirked. "Don't look at me like that. Your child wasn't killed by me. It was Kyra who went to the hospital to abort it to prove her love for me. She said she didn't want to have a child with someone she didn't love."

"Do you know? When she heard I was going abroad, she was so heartbroken she went on a trip, and you just happened to rescue her. She married you just to spite me and repay me. Otherwise, what right does a useless orphan like you have to stand by her side?"

"Now that I'm back, Kyra has recognized her true feelings. You're just a stinky security guard. Like a slave, go away where you came from!"

He tried to provoke me but was disappointed when he didn't see any reaction on my face. My heart had long since died; Kyra could no longer affect my emotions.

"Are you done? If you are, move out of the way!"

I didn't have time to waste with him and tried to bypass him.

But he secretly extended a foot on my path, causing me to trip and fall. The excruciating pain in my leg made my face lose all color, and I curled up and trembled.

Meanwhile, Alan pretended to fall and screamed in pain.

"Alan, are you okay?"

Kyra anxiously ran down from the car and immediately went to Alan's side.

"Mr. Grant, I was only trying to help you, but if you're ungrateful, why did you have to deliberately trip me?" Alan played the victim.

Hearing this, Kyra walked over in anger and slapped me without saying a word.

"Harry, I really misjudged you! Not only are you a good-for-nothing kept man, but you're also a heartless bastard!"
