Chapter 1
One —Neytra's Pov
“I will ask you this question just once, and I demand nothing but the truth from you. Unless you want to have yourself to blame,” Dominic, my husband, blurted out angrily as he barged into my office, slamming the door hard behind him.
His jaw was clenched, and his eyes were narrowed into a cold glare.
I smoothed down the green dress I was wearing and forced my voice to stay steady.“Welcome, Mr. Dominic. How was your trip?” Despite being his wife, he was against any form of familiarity during working hours.
But instead of responding to my greeting, he scoffed. “I don't need your greetings, Neytra. And don't try to cover up what you have done.”
“Oh, I'm so sorry that I didn't inform you before embarking on the project. The investors were getting angrier by the day, and there was no way I could call you to inform you since you weren't taking any of my calls,” I muttered as I quickly picked up the files and strode towards him.
He pushed the files away from my hands as he gripped my arm, his fingers digging into my skin. “Do you think your little charm will work this time? You think you can use work to get your way like you always did?”
My brows pulled together as I searched his unreadable eyes, trying to understand what had suddenly gotten into him. “W-what are you talking about, Dominic? Did I do something wrong?” I whispered, my voice trembling slightly.
His grip tightened around my arm again. A sharp sting shot through my skin, and I bit down on my lower lip as his fingers pressed harder, leaving red marks behind.
“You know exactly what you did.”
“I don't.” I shook my head, my brows knitting together. He was furious because I sealed his lifelong dream in his absence. It was his dream and somehow I stole the credit from him by taking up the project on his behalf.
“Dominic, I have spent the last three months trying to reach you. You ignored every single call I made. You didn't answer my messages, you didn't return any of them, and now you walk into my office accusing me of something I know nothing about.”
A bitter laugh escaped his throat. “Three months.” His eyes darkened with anger. “You want to talk about the three months I was away?”
“Yes!” I snapped, frustration finally replacing my confusion. “Because I don't understand what is happening.”
He released my arm so abruptly that I stumbled backward. “Then perhaps you should explain this.” He pulled his phone from his pocket and shoved it toward me.
My eyes dropped to the screen. My fingers curled against my palm as I stared at the picture. It was a picture of me standing outside a hotel with a man. And the funniest thing is that, I'm wearing the same exact green dress on the picture.
My breath caught in my throat. There was no denying it. The woman in the picture was me. But how was that even possible when I didn't know the man in the picture?
My lips parted as I stared at the photograph, desperately trying to understand what I was looking at.
“Dominic…”
“Don't.” He stopped me before I could say another word. I looked up at him. “This isn't what you think.”
“Then tell me what it is.”
“I can explain—”
“Explain?” he repeated, a humorless smile twisting his lips. “You were sleeping with another man while I was away, Neytra.”
“What?” My fingers went numb around the edge of the desk, and I struggled to draw in a steady breath. This has to be some kind of joke. “Maybe it was his new way of telling me he miss me,” I thought inwardly.
“I left for three months believing my wife was waiting for me to come home.” His voice cracked on the last word, but his jaw stayed hard. “Meanwhile, you were busy finding someone else to warm your bed.”
“That is not true!” I snapped angrily as hot tears spilled down my cheeks. Whoever did this wanted Dominic to see me as nothing but a whore.
“Then whose child are you carrying?”
I gasped in shock as the files I was holding hit the floor with a dull thud. My heart slammed against my ribs as I stared at him, unable to make sense of what I had just heard.
For a moment, neither of us spoke.
“What…?” I gasped in disbelief, Was he calling me an whore indirectly?
Dominic stepped closer, his eyes burning into mine. “You heard me.” His voice dropped to a whisper. “Tell me, Neytra. Who is the father of your baby?”
“How did you know that I’m pregnant?” I managed to ask through the tears, my voice barely above a whisper.
Just two weeks after his departure, I had started feeling sick, especially in the mornings. I would wake up with my stomach churning, sometimes barely making it to the bathroom before the nausea hit me.
At first, I brushed it aside. But when it kept happening, a small suspicion began to creep into my mind.
I couldn't ignore it anymore.
So I went to the hospital, but this time, I stayed away from our family doctor. I didn't want anyone knowing before I was ready to tell Dominic. Instead, I went to a private clinic, hoping the test would put my mind at ease.
But when the doctor finally gave me the result, my fingers went cold around the edge of the chair. I was pregnant. Pregnant with Dominic's child.
After three years of trying to make him love me, after countless nights of wondering if I would ever have a place in his heart, I was finally carrying his baby.
I had wanted to tell him myself. But he never answered my calls, for ninety three days he refused to answer any of my calls and texts or even bother to check if I was doing fine.
“You know what?” Dominic's lips curled into a bitter smile. “I never knew you were this sneaky, Neytra.”
My brows pulled together as I wiped the tears from my cheeks.
“And the fact that you went to a separate clinic instead of the family clinic…” His eyes slowly traveled over me, disgust flashing across his face. “It means a lot of things.”
My chest tightened.
“I wanted to keep it a secret,” I whispered, my fingers tightening over my stomach. “I wanted to announce the news to you myself rather than have you hear it from the doctor's mouth.”
Dominic let out a low, bitter laugh.
“Then I guess you did the right thing.” His eyes dropped briefly to my stomach before returning to my face. “Why don't you go over to your lover and tell him the good news?”
My lips parted, but no words came out.
“I bet he'll be more than delighted to hear that you bore him a child.” With those words, he turned on his heels and walked out of the room, leaving me standing there with tears streaming down my face.
I didn't know how many minutes had passed as I stood rooted to the same spot, tears spilling down my cheeks until my vision blurred.
Then my phone chimed. My head snapped toward it as I hurried over and grabbed it from the desk, my fingers trembling as I unlocked the screen.
“Maybe it was Dominic, maybe he had realized the pictures were fake and finally understood that I was innocent.” I thought.
But my hope vanished the moment I saw an unfamiliar number.
My brows pulled together as I opened the message.
`{Did you like my surprise, Ney? Just see how vulnerable you look, trying to make the man who despise you love you. I bet you will be wishing you were dead right now.}`
Chapter 2
Two—Neytra’s Pov
I stared at the text for five minutes, my thumb hovering over the screen as I tried to figure out what to do next.
This was clearly a setup. Someone had gone to the trouble of creating a forged photograph just to destroy my reputation. Worse, they had wanted Dominic to humiliate me in front of everyone.
“Who are you? And what do you want from me?” I texted back,my hands trembled so badly that I had to delete and retype the words twice before finally hitting send.
Less than a minute later, another notification appeared.
“Let’s just say, I’m the girl Dominic comes to whenever he gets bored of having you around. I bet he’ll be away on another business trip soon, and this time, he won’t be coming back to you.”
The phone nearly slipped from my fingers as I read the message over and over again. A shiver crawled down my spine as the words sank deeper, and my fingers tightened around the phone until my knuckles turned white.
My eyes burned as I tried to hold back my tears, How could he? So all those nights I had spent waiting for him to call, all those times I had convinced myself he was simply too busy to answer me...
He had been with another woman.
My lips trembled as the tears finally spilled over. He was the one who had betrayed me. The one who had claimed he was away on a business trip while finding his way under another woman's skirt.
With my chest tightening, I lunged toward my desk and began searching frantically for my car keys. I needed to get home and confront that cheating husband of mine.
My fingers closed around the keys, but I froze.
What if this person was trying to play me, just as they had played Dominic?
I quickly picked up my phone and typed.
“So, tell me, you’re this desperate, right? You want to get into Dominic Davis’s pants, and the only thing you could think of was to lie and send forged photos to him?”
I hit send and barely had time to lower my phone before another message popped up.
“Oh, what do you think? I would lie about something that is true? Oh, please. He loves me so much that I just can’t bring myself to spill lies just to get his attention. I can send you the evidence if that’s what you want.”
My eyes remained fixed on the screen. For a moment, I couldn't move. The words seemed to blur, but I forced myself to read them again, hoping I had somehow misunderstood.
My stomach twisted.
Evidence? What evidence could she possibly have? Was it evidence of their relationship together?
I tightened my grip around the phone as my mind raced through every possibility. I wanted to dismiss her words as another pathetic attempt to get under my skin, yet a tiny voice in my head kept asking the same question.
What if she wasn't lying?
As if to prove me wrong about Dominic cheating on me, another message popped up on my phone. It was from the unknown number, along with a series of videos.
My heart lurched as I stared at the screen, my thumb hovering over the message for a few seconds before I finally opened it.
“Oh, poor Neytra. Don't cry when you see this. You asked for it.”
My fingers tightened around the phone. I swallowed hard and clicked on the first video. I clicked on the first video.
There was Dominic.
My Dominic, He was standing in a kitchen I didn't recognize, laughing as he cooked beside the woman from the messages. She leaned against him with a smile on her face, and the way he looked at her made something inside my chest tighten.
I clicked on the next video.
This time, they were sitting together on a couch, laughing and talking as though they had done it a hundred times before. In another, Dominic had his arm wrapped around her while they walked through what looked like a shopping mall.
The next video showed them at a restaurant, sitting across from each other, his hand reaching across the table to hold hers.
My thumb stopped.
I stared at the screen, my jaw tightening. Then I opened the final video, my entire body went still. I didn't need to watch for long. The sight of Dominic in bed with another woman was enough.
I locked my phone. For several seconds, I sat completely still, staring straight ahead. This time I didn't cry, all I felt was a cold burning rage that seemed to spread through every inch of my body. So this was what his three-month business trip had been about.
My fingers tightened around the phone.
I gathered every video, every photograph, and every message the woman had sent me, making sure I had everything before shoving my phone into my bag.
I grabbed my car keys. If Dominic thought he could betray me, lie to me, and then accuse me of cheating on him, he had another thing coming.
I stormed out of the office and headed straight for home.
As I pulled into the driveway, the security guard whispered something into his walkie-talkie before opening the gate for me. My fingers tightened around the steering wheel.
I drew in a slow breath, forcing myself to stay composed. I wasn't going to break down in front of Dominic. Not after everything that had happened.
I parked the car and stepped out. The moment I shut the door, a sharp slap cracked across my face.
My head jerked to the side, and a burning sting spread across my cheek. Before I could even process what had happened, a stern voice rang through the air.
“How dare you stoop this low, you witch? All we did was take you in as our daughter despite the fact that you were a nobody, and this is how you repay us? By sleeping around with every man who comes your way?”
My fingers slowly rose to my cheek. That voice, I knew it. As my eyes lifted, the woman standing before me came into view.
Dominic's mother.
For years, she had plastered a smile across her face whenever Dominic was around, wrapping me in fake affection and calling me her daughter.
But the look in her eyes now held none of that warmth.
There was only disgust. And for the first time, I didn't have to wonder what she truly thought of me.
She had finally stopped pretending.
Chapter 3
Three--- Neytra's Pov
My fingers slowly rose to my cheek. That voice, I knew it. As I lifted my eyes, the woman standing before me came into view.
Dominic's mother.
For years, she had plastered a smile across her face whenever Dominic was around, wrapping me in fake affection and calling me her daughter. But the look in her eyes now held none of that warmth. There was only disgust, and for the first time, I didn't have to wonder what she truly thought of me.
She had finally stopped pretending.
Before I could say another word in my defense, her palm struck my face again, harder than the first time.
My head snapped to the side, and the sharp sting spread across my cheek. I slowly turned back to face her, my tongue brushing against the inside of my mouth. And the taste of blood made a bitter chuckle escape my lips.
“I guess you should ask your son why he cheated on me and not the other way around.”
That was all it took to make her lose her mind.
Her fingers immediately tangled in my hair, and she yanked me toward the house without giving me a chance to steady myself. I stumbled after her as she dragged me into the sitting room. The moment we got inside, she gave my hair another forceful tug, sending me crashing onto my knees.
“Why would you do something like that to Dominic?” my mother demanded. “Why would you cheat on him when you know what he has done to this family?”
I lifted my eyes.
My parents were sitting on the couch, both staring at me. Their eyes filled with pity as they stared at me.
The Davis family knew exactly how much my family depended on them. They knew my parents had lost everything because of their influence, and now they had found the perfect opportunity to humiliate me in front of the very people I had spent years trying to protect.
“Dominic has agreed to filing for a divorce,” my father muttered in his unusually calm voice. “You just have to play along and don't cause any more damage than what has already been done.”
“No. You guys need to stay out of this and trust me to handle it.” I crawled toward where they sat and wrapped my arms around both of them. “Just trust me,” I pleaded, tightening my grip on their arms. “Please.”
My mother shook her head slowly. “We already lost our jobs, Neytra, and the Davis family is threatening to take back the house they got for us.”
My grip loosened. I stared at her, unable to find the right words. I pulled my gaze from her as my eyes scanned the room looking for the one person that originated this mess.
They landed on Dominic, anger surged through me when I saw the faint smirk tugging at the corner of his lips. And suddenly, everything began to make sense..
He had teamed up with that woman.
They had planned all of this to ruin my reputation and make me look like the unfaithful wife so he could finally get rid of me and be with his whore.
My hands curled into fists.
“Is this how you want to play, Dominic?” I questioned as I pushed myself to my feet and strode toward where my bag was. From the corner of my eye, I caught sight of his mother. She was practically beaming, looking far too pleased with herself.
Of course she was.
After all these years, she was finally getting what she wanted—getting rid of the nobody she believed had been feeding off her family's wealth.
“You must think this is a joke, right?” Dominic's stern voice stopped me in my tracks. “Your parents are present, and so are mine. Just don't you dare turn this into a pity party. I have made up my mind to divorce you.”
A small laugh escaped my lips. He had probably practiced those words for days, maybe even weeks, because they rolled off his tongue far too perfectly.
“Don't you think you're missing something, Dominic? Aren't you going to tell the truth to our parents, or do you want me to do that myself?”
Before Dominic could say a word, his mother cut in. Her voice was sharp as she sneered.
“The truth is that you are nothing but an ungrateful woman. You are never satisfied with what you have, and you keep running around with any man who comes your way. I'm grateful my son doesn't have to spend the rest of his life with your cheating ass.”
“But what if I tell you that it is the other way around? That I'm not the cheater here, but someone else is?” I raised my brows as I questioned her, then stole a quick glance at Dominic. He shifted slightly in his seat, and that tiny movement didn't escape my notice.
“Neytra?” My mother whispered, her voice pleading. “Just apologize already, and we can save ourselves any further embarrassment.”
I shook my head. “Dominic owes me an apology.” My mother's eyes widened. She looked between Dominic and his mother, who were both sitting there with amused expressions on their faces.
“Poor people never cease to amuse me,” his mother murmured, loud enough for all of us to hear.
I couldn't help but chuckle. “You know what amuses me?” I leaned slightly toward her, my eyes fixed on hers. “A mother who raised a son who is nothing but a dog.”
“Neytra!” Dominic roared as he shot to his feet. “You will not do this today. You will respect me, and you will respect my mother.”
I gritted my teeth, refusing to back down. “If you needed respect so badly, then you shouldn't have cheated on me with that worthless girl and tried to cover it up under the excuse of attending a business trip.”
His expression darkened, but I wasn't done.
“And you think I don't have proof of your atrocities?” I scoffed. “Then you must think I'm your personal fool.” I immediately unlocked my phone, my fingers tightening around it as I prepared to show them exactly what I had.
I quickly opened the final video—the one showing Dominic in bed with the other woman—and shoved my phone toward him.
But instead of the panicked expression I had expected, Dominic burst into laughter. His mother joined him, along with the maids who had been standing quietly in the room the entire time.
“How did I end up marrying a woman this pathetic?” he chuckled.
My brows pulled together as I snatched my phone back. I looked down at the screen, ready to play the video again, but my smile faded almost instantly.
The video was gone. I refreshed the page, but nothing happened. I checked the message where the video had been sent, but there was nothing there either.
How could the video have disappeared? I stared at the blank screen, my mind refusing to process what I was seeing.
No, It had been there just moments ago.
So where the hell had it gone?
