Chapter 4

Carla’s POV

“Don Alexander, Lady Carla has just arrived. Someone poisoned her dextrose, and she almost died. If it weren't for the nurses saving her, she wouldn't have made it. I quickly moved her to a different location to keep her safe, away from whoever was trying to kill her.”

Suddenly, Alexander’s attention shifted to Nathan, and his face twisted in anger.

His eyes narrowed, and he let go of me.

I collapsed onto the floor, feeling weak and drained, but I refused to give in.

Alexander approached Nathan, but Nathan didn’t back down. In fact, he stood taller, meeting Alexander’s gaze with a challenge.

“Are you challenging me, you motherfucker? Do you have any idea what I could do to you, or your family? I could kill you if I wanted to.”

“Alexander, that’s enough!” I managed to say. I forced myself to stand, despite feeling so weak. I shot a harsh look at him.

“You’re not the only one who’s lost a child. You should be grateful I came back. Please, enough already.”

“Who said you could talk to me like that?” He turned toward me, and to my surprise, he grabbed my hand and pulled me inside the mansion. The servants and other staff had no choice but to watch in silence, powerless as Alexander dragged me.

As soon as we reached our bedroom, he pushed me onto the bed and locked the door behind him. He turned to face me.

“You were gone for weeks,” he said, his voice cold. “And now you come back, acting like you’re fine. Where did Nathan take you? What did he do to you?!” He was demanding an answer, but I couldn’t speak.

He crossed the room in a few steps and grabbed me by the arm. “Fucking answer me.”

I could feel his rage building. This was Alexander—always quick to lose his temper. He had no patience, never did. But I had always been the one to put up with him because I loved him. But now, it was becoming impossible to ignore the fact that he had been cheating on me, accusing me of doing the same.

“He saved my life! He took me out of that hospital, where someone was trying to kill me! Are you not concerned about that?!”

My heart was racing, and for the first time in a while, I wasn’t afraid to stand up to him.

His eyes were cold, and the look on his face was enough to send chills down my spine. It was like I had no choice but to accept whatever he wanted to do.

“Stay fucking there. Don’t do anything stupid without my consent. I’ll lock you up here for the rest of your life. Or else, I’ll kill Nathan, that butler that’s always sticking by your side.”

Just like that, he was gone.

Despite feeling completely drained, I fought to hold back my tears. I refused to let him see me break down. I pushed myself, telling myself that I couldn’t let him win this time.

With a deep breath, I stood up and made my way out of the room since I have hidden keys here in our room in case things like this happens.

I needed to find the safe. The place where the money was hidden. If I had any chance of escaping this country, if I was going to get away from him, I needed to get my hands on his wealth. It was the only way.

As I was heading toward the safe, Nathan approached me. “Are we going through with the plan, Lady Carla?” he asked, his voice low but steady.

“Yes,” I replied firmly, “Have you prepared the car?” I asked.

“Yes, Lady Carla. I’ll be the one driving,” Nathan confirmed.

I nodded, signaling him to go ahead and prepare everything. He left, and I immediately put my plan into motion. I sneaked back into the mansion, making sure nobody noticed me. I was the only one who knew the pass code to the safe, and I wasn’t about to let that slip.

When I got to the safe, I was relieved to find no one else around. Alexander wasn’t there either, and I had no idea where he had gone. With steady hands, I entered the pass code and opened the safe. My heart raced as I grabbed a significant amount of money and stuffed it into my bag.

Just as I was about to finish, Nathan suddenly appeared beside me. “Lady Carla, we need to go. The bomb is about to go off.”

I quickly followed him. He led me out of the mansion and into the car, urging me to hurry. As we reached the designated spot, we heard a loud explosion.

The bomb had detonated, just as planned.

I made sure that Nathan had left behind enough evidence to cover our tracks.

“We’re under attack!” The soldiers' screams echoed through the mansion as they rushed inside. We did what we could to avoid them, hiding as best as we could.

Finally, we reached the car. I quickly loaded all the money I’d taken into the vehicle. Nathan stepped on the gas pedal, and we sped away from the chaos.

I glanced back at the mansion one last time, a cold, final feeling washing over me.

Alex doesn’t know I left a fake body…to make him regret everything he did to me.

“See you never, Alex,” I whispered to myself. The mansion that had once been my home was now nothing more than a distant memory.

Chapter 5

Alexander’s POV

I turned my back on Carla.

I couldn’t even look her in the eye.

Not after I found out that our child died in that accident and after that, she disappeared.

What fuck me even more was that she was with Nathan, our butler.

I clenched my jaw, feeling the tension in my whole body. My fists were tight, almost like they were going to break.

The thought that Carla might be doing something behind my back with Nathan was eating me alive. And I had to get to the bottom of this. There was no way I’d stand by while she cheated on me.

I was still fuming when

suddenly appeared in front of me, blocking my path. She was the one I’d slept with. Her voice cut through the silence.

"Honey, what's wrong?" she asked, her tone dripping with concern. But I couldn’t even look at her. I just stared straight ahead. There was nothing but coldness in my eyes.

I shoved her aside, not caring how she felt.

"Get out of my damn way," I growled. But of course, she didn’t just leave. She followed me, sticking to me like a shadow, like a dog that refused to get off its owner’s heels.

"Honey, why are you acting like this?" she whined. "You used to be so sweet with me. Now, what’s going on?"

I stopped walking, trying to keep my anger in check. My chest was tight, my fists still clenched. I was doing everything I could to stop myself from exploding. The past few days had been unbearable. The stress was too much, and I couldn’t even focus on Carla anymore because I was drowning in work.

It was killing me that every time I saw her with Nathan, she seemed so happy.

I saw how he took care of her. It made me sick. And that’s when the thought crossed my mind. I was ready to explode, to lash out, to find someone to fuck with.

That someone was Chanel.

I felt like I could cheat on her just to get back at her, just to hurt her the way she was hurting me.

But Chanel—Chanel was just someone to unload my stress on.

That’s all. I never planned to be with her. She was a distraction, nothing more.

I didn’t want anything serious with her. She was just another outlet for my anger, my frustration.

I turned and glared at her again, the words slipping out of my mouth without thought. "Get out of my fucking way if you don’t want to get killed," I spat.

Her eyes widened in shock. She stepped back, terrified. I could see it in her face, the fear, the realization that maybe she pushed me too far. But I didn’t care. I wasn’t in the mood for games, not with her.

I turned away from Chanel, ready to walk off. But before I could go any further, something exploded.

“What the fuck?!”

The ground shook beneath my feet, and the air was filled with chaos. It felt like the world was falling apart in that moment.

"We're under attack!" someone shouted.

"What?!" I shouted.

Without wasting another second, I rushed after my soldiers, who were running towards the source of the explosion. The loud blast echoed through the air, and I had to find out what had caused it.

And then I saw it. The explosion had come from my safe.

"Guard the door!" I ordered sharply. "Make sure no enemies can get out of here!"

I cursed under my breath, the frustration bubbling inside me.

The safe—the one place I thought was secure—had been blown open.

We rushed inside, my soldiers on high alert, guns aimed and ready in case anyone tried to shoot at us. We checked the place thoroughly, but after the smoke cleared, we found nothing.

"Sure there's no one here?" I asked, my voice filled with disbelief.

"It looks like they managed to escape," one of my soldiers replied.

"Patrol the area! Search everyone!" I barked.

But then something caught my attention.

As I scanned the room, my eyes fell on a body lying near the flames.

It had been burned, likely from the explosion, and the fire was spreading to another part of the building.

My soldiers immediately jumped into action, spraying the fire with extinguishers to control the damage.

"What’s that?" I pointed, unable to tear my gaze away.

The soldiers quickly moved in to check. They sprayed more foam on the fire, but their faces turned pale. One of them spoke up, his voice trembling, " Don Alexander... it’s... it’s a body."

My heart stopped. "What?"

I stormed over, my legs carrying me forward with a force I couldn’t control. But when I reached the body, I froze. It was like being splashed with ice-cold water, a shock hitting me all at once.

It was... a body. But not just any body.

It was Carla’s.

"Carla?!" I shouted, my voice cracking. I fell to my knees, shaking, and reached out to touch her. I couldn’t believe it. My hands trembled as I held her lifeless form.

"Carla!" I repeated over and over, my voice breaking with every word.

But no matter how many times I said her name, she didn’t respond. She was gone.

A gut-wrenching sob tore through me for the first time in my life.

"She’s... she’s dead.”
