Chapter 5

When Alisha awoke the next day Gael was gone.

The house felt extremely lonely.

There was not a sound to be heard.

The windows were locked, the curtains closed, giving the impression of a gloomy, gigantic house. The opposite side of the bed lay so neatly arranged, it seemed that no one had slept there, on the bedside table there was still that stupid picture of Gael with that woman.

Alisha was curious about the young businessman's past, she got out of bed, walking barefoot. She felt the coldness of the wood running through the soles of her feet.

As if her limbs were on automatic she went to the closet, the huge closet was made of wood, she grabbed the door and slid it open.

There were many outfits, stored on hangers, at the bottom were several cardboard boxes.

Alisha bent down and opened one at a time, rummaging for something relevant.

She was startled.

She found a glass box containing a baseball and remembered that she and Gael had met because of the baseball.

She held that box in her hands as she got up from the floor, it was impossible for her to still hold that memory. So many years had passed. Gael must still remember her.

At that moment, Gael suddenly appeared.

The door was slammed open.

Alisha was startled and the glass box she was holding fell to the floor and shattered.

Gael picked up the baseball.

"You're only staying at my house temporarily, don't consider this place your home" he warned her.

Seeing Gael's nervous look.

Alisha guessed that the baseball was something to do with the woman in the photograph in the room. She had always thought that all the things for the women in the house were bought at will by Gael, but now, she knew that they were specially prepared by him for that woman in the picture in his room.

The one he seemed to contemplate with a divine devotion.

She was only a temporary guest, and that beautiful, exquisite woman, who did not live there was the real hostess of the house.

"I can make up for the broken glass box," she said carefully to Gael.

He let out a derisive laugh.

"Even your family is supported by me, how could you ever repay it?"

Gael mercilessly shoved Alisha, causing the alien body to be returned to the floor. Gael didn't notice that when she fell, she landed on the broken glass.

Alisha looked at the broken glass box on the floor and understood that this person was the "baseball" that Gael valued, but she was the broken "glass box" that he would no longer look at even if it was broken.

The shards of glass dug into her legs. Those tiny shorts she wore as pajamas didn't help to avoid the wounds on her skin.

She wanted to get up but a pain shot through her body, immediately reflecting on her face.

"Can't you get up?"

"Fuck you" a tear rolled down her cheek, she pressed her lips together feeling the pain gnawing at her system. She pushed herself up and stood up.

Gael was startled to notice that crimson liquid running down his wife's legs.

"What the hell is that?" his eyes gradually widened.

"I just happened to fall in glass" he expressed sarcastically.

The cuts on her skin were not that deep, she went to the bathroom and grabbed the first aid kit to clean her wounds, she sat on the edge of the bed cleaning the blood and then would place band aids on the wounds.

"Yo!"

"Get out!"

"Me!"

Alisha sighed.

"I'd better get the hell out of here, when you still can" she watched that older man. His face was very sinister. Gael swallowed saliva, those wounds had been his fault.

"I'm sorry..."

Alisha threw against the businessman a bottle of alcohol she was holding.

"Your apologies aren't going to cure me" she spat.

Gael left the room.

It was true, she felt so suffocated at that submissive attitude she could show. Gael must have waited a long time to meet that person. She knew she would never get his attention.

As she wiped one hand she took her own.

"I'll do it."

Gael had returned.

She didn't even hear the door open or walk toward it, only barely noticed a hand taking her own, for her eyes were clouded by a curtain of liquid. Droplets were falling on her thighs.

"No" she didn't even recognize his voice.

One after another the tears were falling on her thighs.

She didn't even know at what point she started sobbing, she could only feel that hand wrapping around her own, that quality feeling that hugged her chest.

"Stop crying, you look disgusting."

"You're disgusting."

She blinked causing two large drops to descend down her cheeks, meeting those beautiful gray eyes, then, she observed that multicolored color that adorned near the iris.

Her face that was usually expressionless.

It softened.

A hand caressed her cheek.

"We're from disgust."

Gael smiled, a sincere smile that infected her.

"You can stay."

"Am I not here" he wiped away her tears. "He's coming to help you."

Because he didn't know he was asking her to stay with her, not with this woman who seemed to rule his world. He wanted the right to be selfish.

She felt.

She knew that asking him that was a stupidity of the moment, that man she has loved for over ten years, he used to be a little slow to understand.

"I know."

Gael instinctively reached over and chastely kissed her lips.

He didn't know why he did it, he only understood that his heart stopped for a second, his tears once again furrowed his cheeks for the last time and a warmth came over his face.

"Stop crying you look..."

Alisha didn't hear what he was saying to her, she barely managed to keep watching those lips moving and articulating who knows what words.

She felt her heart racing.

And her senses almost completely disconnected, she let out a nervous laugh.

Gael was her first love, the one she didn't want to give up.

Chapter 6

That night I entered that house, it was not by chance, although everyone thought so.

If I had imagined that this event would lead us to a grandfather imposing his opposition to obtain greater profits in agreements that did not concern me, but would be the main strategy, I would have given up saving him.

That night without hesitation I would have let him die.

I would have passed him by.

I should never have saved him.

I was dressed in my jeans, military style boots, a black shirt and my leather jacket.

I walked with my hands in my pockets as I circulated around the area in the company of a ballasted group, I prowled around like a wild beast in search of its prey, every night I saw elegant cars leaving that mansion, that memory is the sharpest thing I possess, I still regret it, that night I should have ignored the bullshit my group threw out.

"That loud voice of Daniel's warned me that my lack of courage would be uploaded to the networks and mocked for the rest of my days. "See, she's just a coward" I clenched my fists.

I clenched my fists.

Falling into such a mundane temptation shouldn't have been so easy but it was, having to lead with them, I just had to go into that mansion and bring a vase. Assuming the cameras managed to turn off in ten minutes I could go and come back.

Entering that mansion was not easy.

I also didn't know that the guy I randomly saved would be my husband, if I had known, I would have ignored him. I would have turned around and ignored his existence. I would have done everything but call an ambulance. Of course, there was also that uncertainty of going to prison for breaking various laws.

That dying man touched my nobility.

Because it was unfair to see him like that.

Jumping the security barriers was easy.

I fell crouching down to hold back the blow, I got up little by little, there were no guards. My friends, well, the group that used to bother me with their crap was left behind.

I advanced with stealthy steps along the front. Ignoring the fact that they would have more than one security camera, I walked across the garden, up the one step to grab the doorknob.

An easy challenge.

I would have earned enough, at least, to cover the cost of renting the apartment on the college campus. The strange thing came at that instant. The shocking thing was that hand that came through the door and grabbed my arm and pulled me in.

Staggering I barely managed to steady my gait on the soles of my boots and not break a bone, with my feet that used to be butter, I put up a little resistance.

That guy in front of me, he didn't seem to reason.

"Let go."

"Where had you gone?" his hoarse voice, made my alerts go off.

His bright eyes indicated to me that it wasn't me, it's not me he's talking to, who would be in front of him in his mirage. I didn't know. My alerts went off that man could do anything crazy.

"Do you even know who I am?" resisting I began to struggle. "Let go."

"Where did you go?" he insisted. "Tell me" I could hear the anxiety in his speech.

Scanning him with my eyes in a matter of seconds I understood his miserable state.

He had crimson liquid covered his face from his forehead descending down the left side of his face.

His lip was swollen.

A cut on the corner of his right side and his clothes were torn for a strange reason.

At that moment I glanced back at the body of another, I barely managed to distinguish a broken vase near a table full of snacks, it was a luxurious house prepared to give a good celebration. There was no one in that place, a suspicion crossed my mind at the mere thought that he was under the effect of some substance or the blow would be so powerful as to make him lose his reality.

I used my strength to free myself from his grasp.

"Speak!" of course my actions enraged him, they were like fuel to the fire, his voice became coarser and his countenance gradually changed, he had to get out of there. "Tell me, where did you go!"

I dodged the guy who tried to catch me in his arms.

I jumped away from his grasp.

I barely managed to duck a little.

My boots echoed off the soles of my boots impacting against the floor, that man must have been insane. I felt my heart racing too fast.

"I didn't go..."

"You're lying!" he roared.

His face looked like that of a ferocious hunter who would not stop until his hunger was satiated. When do I pass the prey?

I gulped.

Well, I was quickly running out of options. I had invaded someone else's property, that guy in front of me could be the owner, I had no idea what he wanted, he wanted who knows what and I barely understood in my conscience that I could go to prison.

That man was so hurt.

I had it on good authority that there were always extraordinary celebrations going on, it was impossible not to attend, people found out they were going for more than just a good night out.

Which was ironic.

He had a strange man in front of him who said the opposite of his festivity.

"You want some good punches" I wasn't scared of that guy, giving him a few good kicks would maybe make him react, I stripped off my leather jacket dropping it carelessly on the floor. "Come on, I'll make your mind clear".

Inciting a leaf litter could be considered a crime.

The man didn't even think about it.

"Ah!" I cried out in fright as I saw him lunge at me. "Stop!" I waved my hands in the air.

True, if I hit him I would be guilty of a crime I didn't do. That man threw a punch in the air, next, he kicked out wanting to hit my stomach. I narrowly dodged a severe blow that would take days to stop hurting.

I barely managed to awkwardly dodge the punches thrown, I didn't want to go to prison.

"Hey" "It wasn't true" I exclaimed with my nerves on edge. "Stop it" "Sir, can't you talk" I complained knowing I wasn't going to respond.

"I saw you!"

Did he not have two good eyes to differentiate the person in front of him, would that fight be so drastic that it left him with a concussion. I snorted. It was useless to reason with that man.

However, my boots slipped in a puddle on the floor, in fear of breaking my back for a glimmer of hope I managed to grab the collar of the other's shirt and that guy had no resistance not to let us fall.

A pair of lips hit full against mine.

I opened my eyes wide.

I quickly pushed the other's body away.

My eyes almost popped out of their sockets, not because of the contact but because of the liquid he spat on my mouth. I brought my hand to my lips, what had happened, that person had internal damage.

"Auch" I mumbled in a daze, pain ran down my spine. "Asshole" I spat shallowly, the opposite body seemed like a dead weight on me.

I was scared out of my wits. Whatever it was, that thing that happened would leave after-effects, he had to get to a medical facility fast.

"Come on."

I stirred him.

My hands were gradually shaking, I had to get out fast. Although I gave the impression of a serious case among the underworld, I had to get caught up in that clumsy man's nonsense. I wanted to get the hell out but it was impossible.

I struggled for a moment and it was impossible to move him.

"Move! Go!"

Chapter 7

I stretched out my arm wanting to reach for my jacket.

I barely managed to brush it with my fingertips. That man had to be an asshole, I couldn't hire a security system to protect him.

He would be so cheap.

There was no security, there was no one, he was stranded almost in the middle of nowhere. If it wasn't for the fact that there was a road in front of the residence, the same one that was facing the sea, when driving along the road you could notice that small garden behind the metal bars.

"Come on wake up" I begged knowing that I was unconscious, I must be so unlucky. "Don't die" I pleaded so pitifully. "Don't die, don't do it"

The ambulance arrived within minutes.

When the paramedics arrived, I could barely manage to know that it had been minutes and not hours, I had felt an eternity with every second that passed. That wounded man could die and my fingerprints were in his hair, because it was impossible not to stroke his hair in search of making him wake up.

"Quickly" the squad leader removed the man above me and they ripped his shirt completely off giving him first aid. "Blood pressure monitors."

The area medics in emergency were so efficient.

"Get him on the stretcher" he ordered leading the group. I wiped away that fluid, which was still running down the corners of the corner of my eyes. "Quick, he needs an x-ray and investigate how much organ damage has occurred."

A nurse helped me up.

I managed to make out how he was being carried on the stretcher towards the ambulance parked in front of the residence, a group of three men carried him carrying him, I breathed through my mouth being unable to calm my breathing.

"Your husband will not die" at that moment I felt a sense of relief, having no idea how much that woman nurse had gotten right and preceded in her words. "I will help you, come with me."

I followed.

I ended up riding in the back of the ambulance.

I was a key witness to the two times they made him keep his signs barely stable, I felt like I was watching a terrifying scene, that team of emergency medics battling to keep the injured man alive.

The defibrillator was used a total of two times.

"Quickly," a nurse banged into the cab, signaling the driver to call for a line and get to the hospital as quickly as possible, as the patient was dying. The patient will not hold on any longer.

That wounded man was connected to an oxygen tube, they had opened a wound in his neck by inserting a tube, they had intervened because his lungs did not seem to be able to carry enough oxygen to the body, I saw how they opened him, risking a crossroad to rescue him.

The crimson was on the gloves and on the man's shirt.

"What's taking so long?" complained another nurse in frustration at not making it to the hospital.

"The patient is the priority" roared the leader towards his colleagues, the monitors kept indicating how difficult it was for that unknown man, he really could have died sooner. "He keeps dropping his heart rate "

"What?" the nurse who had pounded his fist on the ambulance cab, turned to the monitor checking.

He heard so clearly that ambulance horn was still blaring. The cars seemed not to be moving because of a car accident on the road.

The emergency doctors seemed distressed at what seemed to be the terrible outcome for the injured man.

It took them about half an hour to arrive.

"Quickly to the operating room."

"He has several internal damage" reported the team leader in the ambulance.

I barely managed to understand that the ambulance had been stopped, that we were in the In the parking lot area, an attending physician in the emergency area had arrived.

He told the emergency team to take him to the operating room.

I walked trembling over the ambulance, I was in the back of the ambulance. On my walk around I discovered that there was too much blood in the ambulance, I didn't know what I was supposed to do that place.

"Ma'am, don't move" a nurse stopped me as I tried to get out of the ambulance. "You feel dizzy."

I denied.

"You need to go get checked out."

He opened one of my eyes shining a small flashlight into it, I felt like I was suspended from reality, it looked like a mockery and that a nightmare.

"Follow the light."

I did as he instructed.

He helped by wiping the traces of blood on my jaw, discovering that those traces of blood did not belong to me.

"You need to do a check" ordered the nurse.

I could hardly understand that that place was not where I was supposed to be, I was not even his relative, I must have gone crazy wanting to jump the boundaries of that barrier and enter that house.

I was taken by the nurse to the emergency room, they performed an excessive amount of medical checks, I did not resist. I followed every order the doctors gave me.

"Your husband will be fine."

I didn't know why they kept repeating it over and over again. That man who could barely move was not my husband, nodding vaguely I averted my gaze down a long hallway.

"He'll be out of surgery soon" the nurse who was helping me dress kept giving me words of comfort. "You must be a little groggy"

I didn't respond.

I knew that house, I used to drive by the road that was right across the street from the huge house in the 'WIN' area of 63rd Avenue in the city, there was no one who didn't know that place.

I knew it was a terrible idea.

Sitting in the waiting room I clenched my fists, that moment the anguish in my chest kept me tied to the seat, unable to leave. I pulled the air from my lungs in a long sigh that drew certain stares.

"Young man" I jumped in my place as I felt a hand on my shoulder, there was no turning back, a police officer was in front of me. "You must accompany us."

"Ah?"

I blurted out.

"We have a few questions for you" the officer indicated. I must have freaked out the moment my feet followed him so collaboratively.

That was the indication of a bad omen.

Seeing that barely visible scar on his neck made me think he must have had a bad time in the operating room, it must have been sad to wake up and not find a familiar face.

"Ready" Gael smiled with a huge smile on his lips, that man was impossible not to love, his beauty so unique made my heart pound. "It's still painful."

That cold look had been wiped away.

A hint of guilt glared through his eyes in an instant, same that was replaced by an expressionless face.

"Go show your ugly tears somewhere else" he spat at my resounding silence.

I closed my eyes.

A couple of tears fell, I opened them again, smiled slyly and seeing him squatting in front of me, without much thought I nudged my foot into his chest.

"No one asks for your disgusting kindness" I replied, he fell down sitting on the floor.

"Oh!" he feigned astonishment. "You are good at theater, have you ever thought of being an actress" his voice full of derision, made me raise my chin.

"You want to be corrected."

"A college girl wants to correct me" he dropped completely on the floor, stretched out in front of the bed, a laugh reached my ears so melodically. "It's impossible"

"Do I look like a joke?" furrowing my brow I pinned my eyes on that businessman. "Sir."

"Huh?" Gael noticed my sarcasm, his laughter stopped and for an instant I hated myself, he sat on the floor again. "Can't you be a little more generous, I've been kind..."

"And I should repay you?" I rolled my eyes.

"You will."

Gael looked interested.

"I think there's something wrong with your head" I cut off abruptly whatever gibberish was coming out of his mouth, Gael smiled as he got up from the floor.

"It might be guilt" he mumbled, I would have thought I imagined it but for the overwhelming silence, barely our voices could be heard in the huge residence.

"Now I have to wear some cuts on my thighs" I complained. "You want recognition for that too" I faced him without taking my eyes from his.

He was such an attractive man.

Gael smiled.
