Chapter 4

Dr. Lloyd's words seemed reasonable on the surface, but he was just trying to smooth things over and side with Dr. Stevens.

So many people outside had already seen this. Some were even recording on their phones. If everyone thought I was some unwed pregnant woman, what would happen to my reputation?

"Yes, yes, Ms. Sanders, you should sit down. Don't get worked up. Our doctors will do everything they can to keep you and the baby safe."

Dr. Stevens pretended to help me up with fake concern, but she leaned in close and lowered her voice to whisper in my ear. "You've got the guts to do shameless things but not the guts to face the consequences. You deserve this miscarriage."

I did not get angry. Instead, I stood up and looked at Dr. Lloyd. "No need. I'm demanding an examination right now. I want to see the test results before I get admitted.”

"Hospital stays are so expensive these days. My money doesn't grow on trees. You want me admitted without even running any tests? I think this hospital is just trying to rake in cash."

I deliberately acted like a penny-pincher, and the people outside the door clearly resonated with that.

"Exactly. Healthcare keeps getting more expensive. I don't even have insurance. Unless it's something serious, I'm not getting it treated."

"My mom was right. Hospitals just want your money. The longer you stay, the better for them."

"This girl has a point. You're supposed to do tests before admitting someone. She looks pretty energetic to me. It doesn't look like a miscarriage at all."

Seeing so many people on my side, Dr. Lloyd exchanged a glance with Dr. Stevens. "Fine. Go get your tests done. However, you have to guarantee that if the examination causes you to miscarry, it has nothing to do with our hospital. We won't take any responsibility."

I nodded. "Don't worry. All these people are watching. I'm not going to cause trouble for your hospital."

I was taken to the ultrasound room. I was a guy. I did not even have a uterus, let alone a baby. Once they did the ultrasound, everything would be clear.

With this kind of juicy gossip going down, quite a few onlookers followed along. Some people saw the bloodstains on the back of my pants and started whispering and pointing.

Tyler looked helpless. "Stop filming! Don't film his face! I'll sue you for invasion of privacy!”

"What a mess. Dude, why don't you just drop your pants and show them? That'll settle it right this instant.”

"Sure, it's a little embarrassing, but it's better than being accused of being pregnant when you're a guy," Tyler said, clearly out of ideas.

I rolled my eyes. "I'd like to keep my dignity, thanks. Don't drag me down. The ultrasound will clear everything up in a minute."

Tyler yawned. "Fine, fine. This is ridiculous."

At the ultrasound room, I lay down on the examination table and let the doctor run the test. The screen showed nothing but darkness. I could not make out anything.

The report would be ready quickly. The doctor told me to wait in the hallway for a bit.

Tyler and I relaxed and played on our phones. The truth would come out soon anyway. What was there to worry about?

Before long, the ultrasound room door opened. The doctor came out holding the report.

I walked up and asked, "Doctor, I was right, wasn't I? I'm a guy. I don't even have a uterus. There's no way I could be pregnant."

The doctor sighed. "Young lady, stop being stubborn. You're three months pregnant. Get admitted now to prevent the miscarriage. There's still time!"
