Chapter 1 of Bullied by My Husband's Family, I Was Recognized by My Rich Father

My whole family bullied me.

I gave birth to a stillborn baby after ten months of pregnancy.

I became the laughingstock of the villagers and an outcast in their eyes.

My mother-in-law couldn't hold her head up in the village and came home to beat me like crazy, asking my husband to divorce me.

Just when I was about to believe it, I saw the bottles and baby clothes in the cabinet.

After ten months of pregnancy, the baby was born, but unexpectedly, it was a stillborn.

I didn't see the baby. When I came out of the ward, my husband and the doctor surrounded me.

They told me such sad news.

I stood still. How could this be? I could feel fetal movements in my belly. This couldn't happen.

My husband comforted me and said, "It's okay, we will have another child in the future."

I couldn't accept it at all and wanted to see the baby's body, but my husband stopped me.

"I have seen it, so you don't need to see it. I'm afraid you can't take it."

He said the child had already been cremated and he brought back a box of ashes.

I cried while holding the box for a long time until we left the hospital.

When I returned home, instead of my mother-in-law's care and advice, I was met with disdain and insults.

"Did you do something terribly wrong in your past life, so you have no parents and no children in this life?"

My mother-in-law had always been sarcastic and mean, and she bullied me even more because I had no parents to rely on.

She didn't hold back when she scolded me.

Now, my mind was filled with thoughts of the child, and I couldn't hear what she was saying anymore.

I held a pillow and asked my husband if this was my child.

"Yes, yes, hold it tight."

My husband took his mother and left. I didn't know what they said to each other.

I had always been an outsider in this family, and they always talked behind my back.

My mother-in-law came out of the room and asked me to cook.

She was going out for a while.

Everyone in the village knew about my return and that I didn't bring back my child.

"I heard that their child is a stillborn baby. We should stay away from their family in the future."

"Don't get involved with their bad luck."

I didn't know who spread the news, but it spread like this in the village.

I went to the village store to buy things, but people kept their distance from me and were afraid of me approaching them.

When my mother-in-law came back from playing cards, she slapped me as soon as she entered.

"It's all because of you. You bring us bad luck, so I didn't win today."

I covered my face, silently crying, and then, took the cooked meal from the kitchen.

I wanted to be tough and told them that I wanted a divorce, but I was worried about my ability to survive.

I didn't know what I could do in the future.

I didn't have parents to rely on, and I hadn't even been to school.

I was brought back by Jensen's mother Rylie, who was also my mother-in-law, at a young age. Her only requirement for me was to be filial to her and her husband and take care of Jensen.

So, I had never had a say in their family, and because they had supported me, I dared not confront them.

All grievances were kept to myself.

Rylie lost money today and had been in a bad mood, so she tried to find fault.

"This dish is too salty, does salt come for free?"

I stood beside her without daring to speak.

She slapped me again.

In the evening, when my husband came back, I saw from his eyes that there seemed to be something he wanted to say.

Rylie pushed him away.

"If he can't bear to say it, then I'll do it. My son wants to divorce you."

Her words were like a bolt from the blue. I had done so much, why did he still want to abandon me?

I couldn't believe what Rylie said, so I held Jensen's hand and asked him to tell me personally.

"Do you know how much gossip our family has suffered because of you? I can't even hold my head up when I go out to play cards."

"You have to get divorced tomorrow."

My husband pulled me aside and said he wanted to talk to me alone.

He hugged me and rested his head on my shoulder.

"I'm sorry, I didn't want this, but I couldn't bear the gossip in the village. If you want to hit me, go ahead."

I placed my hand on his face.

Since we were getting divorced anyway, I slapped him five times in a row on his face.

I did a lot of heavy work, so I was powerful.

Five slaps made Jensen's mouth bleed and his face swelled up.

He couldn't believe that I dared to hit him. He clenched his hands and held back.

I felt something was wrong. According to his temper, he wouldn't have done this.

When he came out of the room, Rylie saw him become like that, and she felt sorry for him.

She wanted to teach me a lesson but was stopped by Jensen. He shook his head and said that it was all owed to me.

When we discussed the distribution of property after divorce, he said he would give me half of the property as a reward for working so hard for their family for so many years.

Although Rylie didn't look good, she didn't say a word.

When I was packing my clothes at night, I accidentally found milk powder, milk bottles, and diapers in the closet.

My mind broke down.

I took these things to find them.

I threw them in front of them, roaring and asking them what these things were.

"Why do you have these things? Is my child still alive?"

I grabbed Jensen and asked him where the child was.

He used to comfort me, but later, he got tired of me. He tied me up and gagged me.

"Your child has been gone for a long time. He was born dead, don't you know?"

Rylie picked up the things on the ground and wiped them with heartache.

"These were prepared for your child, but I hid them because I was afraid you would be sad."

"Who knew you would be so terrifying when you went crazy?"

I sat like this all night, unable to close my eyes. I always heard the child crying beside me.

The next day, as soon as it dawned, we went to City Hall in town.

The process was simple, and when I held the divorce certificate in my hand, it still felt unreal.

We went to the bank and he withdrew two hundred thousand dollars for me.

I never knew the family had so much savings because no one told me.

"You should stay in town in the future. If you go back to the village, you will be drowned in rumors."

He drove away, and I stood alone on the street, not knowing what to do.

I found a house, and after a month of doing nothing, I planned to open a small shop in town to support myself.

After more than a year, I managed to get by in town.

Finally, I found the meaning of my existence. I was no longer just a housewife relying on my husband.

I told my friend about this, even the lady next door who set up a stall agreed with me.

She smiled and said I was silly.

"He was so eager to divorce, not because he couldn't bear the rumors, but probably because he had a mistress."

If I had heard this when I just got divorced, I would have been angry and wanted to bring Jensen back and ask if it was true.

But now, I have let go, and what the lady said was just trivial.

She dragged me to a nearby place and whispered in my ear, asking if my child would have been given to someone else.

I exclaimed.

"Is it because your mother-in-law's family is too poor to support the child and she doesn't want to take responsibility, so she deceived you?"

"Or maybe, he has a lover, so he gave the child to her."

I smiled and waved my hand. Jensen couldn't possibly do that because we have lived together for so many years. How could I not know his character?

But life slapped me in the face.

Not long after our divorce, he remarried.

When the couple was at the mall buying things for their wedding, we happened to run into each other.

They had smiles on their faces.

When Rylie saw me, she didn't recognize me because I had changed a lot.

After recognizing me, she smiled and handed me an invitation.

"My son is getting married again. If you have time, come and have a drink at the wedding."

We used to live a good life together. Divorce doesn't mean we have to be enemies."

I always felt that Rylie was smiling strangely. I tried to struggle and take out my hand, but she held it tightly.

"Okay, okay, please let go of my hand."

She finally let go of my hand.

She also took me to choose things for her new daughter-in-law.

Even the gold ornaments were bought. It showed that they valued this woman.

When I got married, I only had a marriage certificate and nothing else.

After I finally broke free from Rylie's restraint, I got up and left.

When I went back, I told the lady from the morning about this.

"Just go now that they asked you to. It's a good opportunity for those who look down on you to take a look at your current life."

On the day they got married, I took a car back to the village.

As soon as I entered Jensen's house, everyone's eyes were on me.

"Why is she back? How could she have the face to come back? Wasn't she running away with another man already?"

Listening to the increasingly harsh rumors, I finally couldn't control my anger and asked Rylie what happened.

She awkwardly scratched her head and said it was all nonsense from old ladies.

I snatched the microphone from the emcee.

"Listen to me, Jensen and I are getting a divorce openly and aboveboard. Shut your mouths."

"If I find out who said it, he'll be sorry for it."

I deliberately glanced at Rylie meaningfully.

The wedding began, and the bride and groom appeared. I saw the appearance of the bride.

She was beautiful. Her temperament was not like an ordinary person, but a lady.

When she glanced at me, her pupils shrank as if she had seen me before.

I felt puzzled in my heart.

Later, the emcee began to read the bride's dowry. It was too many to count.

Maybe, I could never earn her dowry money in my life.

"It seems that Jensen has married a rich lady. His family has risen."

The corner of her mouth lifted up in pride.

When it was time to exchange rings, a little child walked up.

He couldn't speak yet.

I glanced at him and immediately recognized that he was Jensen's child.

Because they looked so alike. The child was a replica of Jensen.

I smiled and approached my Rylie, asking her how old the child was.

"Probably a little over one year old."

One of Jensen's relatives said. Wasn't that the same time I was pregnant?

Only then did Rylie react and carefully examined the child's appearance.

"That shouldn't be the case. This is not Jensen's child, but the lady's child."

I didn't believe it, and a suspicion formed in my heart.

I looked around and didn't see the parents of the woman.

So, I curiously asked where they went.

"They are both rich and don't worry about their daughter's marriage. They went to the mountains for leisure."

I noticed that Rylie was clenching her teeth slightly while speaking.

After the child came down from the stage and came to us, all the doubts in my heart were resolved.

When he approached, the feeling I had become even stronger. He was my child.

Taking advantage of their inattention, I hugged the child and planned to leave quietly.

But I was seen by a passing woman.

She shouted, saying that I was trying to snatch the child.

Everyone's gaze was focused on me.

The two people who were about to get married also became nervous.

Rylie dropped the melon seeds in her hand and ran straight to me, pulling me.

"Let go. This is my grandson."

I wouldn't let go and I said with a crying voice, "This is my child. I won't make a mistake."

But I was outnumbered. Two men came and held me down, taking the child back.

Rylie angrily hit me many times.

Others couldn't tolerate and started punching and kicking me.

"Are you crazy from thinking about your kid? Your child has been gone for a long time, don't you know?"

"Do you want me to dig out the ashes for you?"
