Chapter 1

During the holiday, five cars collided from behind on the expressway.

My boyfriend Kayne Ford left me stuck in the airbag.

He hurried to the back seat to look for his childhood sweetheart Freya Yeats, and then they left with the ambulance.

I screamed desperately and was taken to the hospital by passers-by.

I saw Freya’s Facebook when I was discharged from the hospital.

[It doesn't matter how badly I got hurt. What matters is that you were with me when I got hurt.]

There was a picture of Kayne bending down and gently rubbing her wrist.

Many people mentioned me to watch this post.

I thought about it and replied: [Since my boyfriend is such a gentleman, I will be generous. I'll give Kayne this scumbag to you.]

——

My arm was broken. When I was discharged from the hospital, the nurse helped me carry my things and get into the taxi.

When I arrived home, Kayne finally contacted me.

"What do you mean?

"You'll make Freya very embarrassed. Do you know that?

"I've told you many times, and I'm telling you one last time. Freya and I are just friends, so stop being unreasonable."

Kayne vented his anger on the phone, and all his words were about Freya.

He didn't show any concern for me, his girlfriend.

There were three of us in the car at that time, and they were not the only two who experienced the accident.

I reminded him, "Kayne, I was stuck by the car door..."

"So I didn't ask you to help." He interrupted me quickly, "I didn't say you were indifferent, but you blamed Freya. Olivia, you are unreasonable!"

After accusing me, he hung up the phone.

I was stunned, staring at the screen of my phone.

Then I packed my things with one hand and cooked spaghetti for myself.

Kayne had always been like this. No matter how much I explained, it was useless.

In the past, I would fight for myself, but now, I was tired.

I didn't want to talk to him anymore.

If I explained too much, I would get bored.

On the third day of my resting at home, Fayne contacted me.

He asked, "Where are you? Why didn't you even call me?"

He got angry at me, and from his point of view, I was wrong.

At that time, I was worried about changing the light bulb. It was difficult for me to hold the ladder and change the light bulb with one hand.

It was black at home and I answered his call in the dark.

Hearing the situation, he insisted to come back and change the light bulb.

I thought about it and agreed.

I sat in the dark until midnight, but he didn't come back.

There was lightning and thunder outside, and a sudden storm came. The room was flickering, looking very strange.

I curled up on the sofa all night, but in the end, Kayne didn't come back.

I fell asleep on the sofa in a daze.

When I woke up, it was the next day. The sky was bright, but Kayne was not at home.

I saw Freya's Facebook again.

[No matter how dark the night is or how heavy the rain is, it doesn't matter, because I have him.]

The picture showed Kayne’s back, and the lights in Freya's room were bright.

I finally decided to let it go.

Kayne didn't love me at all. No matter how I tried to deceive myself, I couldn't convince myself.

All the beautiful thoughts about love in my heart were shattered.

Chapter 2

I contacted a technician to help me change the light bulb.

It turned out that I didn't need Kayne's help.

As soon as I saw the technician off, I received a call from my mentor.

"Olivia, how do you consider what I told you last time? You've graduated for several years, but I still remember you. I'm old now, and I know maybe you don't want to contact me. But this opportunity is rare, and I want to talk to you again. If you miss such a good opportunity, I will feel sorry for you."

I studied artificial intelligence in college, and my mentors valued me very much.

Following him, I won many awards in his projects, and he always thought that I would work in a related industry after graduation.

But unexpectedly, I didn’t.

Kayne thought it was boring to deal with robots all day, so I gave up what I learned in college for him.

I never did anything that Kayne didn't like, just to make him happy.

However, no matter how much I tried to please him, he was still not satisfied with me.

"Olivia, think about it carefully. Your senior is in charge of this project. I have learned about it. It is a very mature idea, and it will have a very high market share in the future. If you are willing, you will achieve good results in the future."

My mentor continued to persuade me, fearing that I would give up again.

But now I had figured it out.

"Sir, I see. I am willing to give it a try. Thank you very much."

My mentor was very happy and said, "I will give you his contact information. Contact him."

I used to treat Kayne as the most important person in my world, and I lived my life with almost no self.

Fortunately, it was not too late to wake up now.

Now that I had the opportunity, I should find myself again.

I contacted the project leader, and he quickly sent me the project information.

He asked me to read it as quickly as possible.

The project laboratory might be relocated, and he had been looking for a new address.

The old laboratory was still in use, so he asked me to familiarize myself with the experimental equipment when I had free time.

Kayne finally came back.

It was quite late at night, and I was reading the documents, so I didn't notice the sound of the door opening.

"Why didn't you answer the phone? I thought you weren't home." He pushed the door open.

I came back to my senses. "I didn't hear it. Maybe it's muted."

It was my habit. I didn’t like to be interrupted by the ringing of bells when studying.

But after I met Fayne, I changed this habit for him, for fear that he would contact me suddenly.

"Did you mute it the whole night?"

He came over with anger.

Chapter 3

I took out my cell phone from the drawer and saw that he had contacted me in the evening.

I put the phone down. “Sorry, I didn’t hear that.”

Then I continued to look through the documents.

When Kayne came to my side, he finally noticed that my arm was in a cast. "Olivia, what's wrong with your arm? Why didn't you tell me?"

Closing the document, I said, "It was broken in the car accident."

Kayne put away the anger on his face and showed some guilt.

Sitting down next to me, he said in a much softer voice, "Olivia, I didn't see it at the time. There was an airbag in the front seat, and you didn't cry out in pain. I thought you were fine."

I turned my head to look at him. "Really?"

He continued to explain, "The situation was urgent at the time. Freya kept crying out in pain, so I thought she was seriously injured."

Was Freya seriously injured? She just hit her head on the glass and scraped her skin.

Kayne came over and took my hand. "Olivia, you know that girls care most about their faces. Freya won't accept it if she gets disfigured."

I nodded. “I know. I understand.”

He paused for a while.

Then he changed the subject. "It rained heavily and thundered last night. You know, Freya has been afraid of the dark since she was young, so I..."

I didn't want to hear his explanation.

So I interrupted him and said, "Okay, she's injured and she's afraid of the dark. You should spend more time with her."

Kayne suddenly became angry. "Olivia, what do you mean?"

I looked at him quietly.

Letting go of my hand, he stood up and looked down at me. "I've explained everything to you, but why do you still have this attitude? Are you mocking me? Freya was indeed injured in the car accident, and all my friends know she has been afraid of the dark since she was young. Do you still want to make trouble with me?"

I stood up too.

Feeling annoyed, I didn't want to say anything more, so I walked out.

He grabbed me and asked, "What's your attitude? Where are you going?"

I said, "I'm sleepy and want to go to bed."

His arm stiffened, but he didn't let me go.

I pulled my hand back. "Kayne, I said I believe you that there is nothing between you and Freya and that you are just taking care of her out of your responsibility as a friend. What's wrong?"

I said the words he said in the past.

Kayne was stunned.

In anger, he slammed the door and left. "Whatever!"

I said I believed him, but he was still not happy.

No matter what I did, he wouldn't be happy.

I didn't care anymore.
