Chapter 2

Since I couldn't sleep anyway, I climbed out of bed and went to the living room to get the Pad to watch TV series.

Baron’s WhatsApp account was logged on the Pad.

On their chat page, at 6:10 p.m., Summer took the initiative to send him a photo of us drinking, "Son, we're drinking outside. Are you mad that we didn't bring you along? Haha."

Followed by a lot of funny emoticons.

Baron replied to her, "Don't be silly. It's not safe for girls to drink outside. Give me the address."

"No!"

"Obedient!"

"No!"

This meaningless conversation went back and forth three or four times.

Summer sent the address.

"Don't come over here! I don't want to see you!"

"I'm heartbroken and I hate men the most."

Then he didn't come back.

I turned off the tablet with cold hands and feet, and I had no mood to watch TV anymore.

In fact, I had noticed that they were a little too close in the past.

She would hit him on the head without hesitation and joke with him at will.

Although he spoke fiercely, the look in his eyes when he looked at her was soft and warm.

When we went out to eat together, he picked out the coriander and celery that I didn't like, and he still remembered to wave to the waiter to bring another spicy dish.

Summer loves spicy food.

But I always thought that this kind of intimacy was because we were not family but better than family.

More importantly.

Baron was introduced to me by Summer.

If they like each other.

How could she have brought him to me?

They have been childhood sweethearts for such a long time. If they want to fall in love, I'm afraid even ten of me wouldn't be able to interfere.

So I always feel that I am petty.

Whenever I feel uncomfortable, just swallow it quietly and make my senses duller and duller.

Until now.

All the pain came back belatedly.

I opened their chat page again and scrolled up.

A few days before Summer was going to introduce me to him.

The atmosphere of their chat gradually became ambiguous. He hinted that he liked her, but she dodged him until he said the words that tested her feelings, "I want to fall in love. Is there any suitable girl to introduce to me?"

Maybe he was just irritated by her constant dodging and deliberately provoked her to say those angry words.

But unexpectedly, she actually introduced me to him.

The night I met him.

He sent her a message, "You know I like you, right? For ten years, you have always been distant to me. Do you really want to push me to someone else now?"

She avoided the main point and pretended to be angry, "What are you talking about? She is my best friend. I can tell you that I have fully guaranteed your character in front of her. If you dare to treat her badly in the future, try it. I will not forgive you."

"Okay, as you wish."

After that day, he really pursued me actively and enthusiastically.

He took me to the movies, amusement parks, and all the places that couples can go, with a meal every three days, a bouquet of flowers every five days. I gradually fell in love under his steady and orderly offensive.

On the evening of the third month after they met, just as it got dark, he set off a box of fireworks on the beach.

Under the colorful sky, he confessed to me.

I didn't sleep all night. When Baron woke up and saw my dark complexion, he felt distressed. "Why do you look so bad? Did you not sleep well last night?"

"Yeah, I can't sleep." I admitted frankly, "Yesterday I suddenly remembered that I had a wrong template at the beginning of a proposal, and I was struggling to decide whether to delete it all and start over, or to correct the mistake."

He was confused and asked, "If we are going in the wrong direction, how can we still get positive results? Don't work too hard. Take a day off today and rest at home."

His phone rang.

Summer's sharp and detached voice came from the other end of the phone, "You bastard, you actually complained to my mother, you are a real bastard!"

Baron put the phone on speaker, threw it on the bed, and started changing his clothes.

"Aunt Alma asked me to take care of you, and I have an obligation to report to her. Summer, I warn you, you are not young anymore, I advise you to live a peaceful life and stop doing things."

Chapter 3

"I have my own life too. I can't always be distracted to take care of you. If you keep making trouble, I'll ask Aunt Alma to take you back and look after you personally."

After hanging up the phone, he complained to me somewhat unhappily, "I'm tired of these trivial matters every day."

I don't think his annoyed attitude is fake.

The desire to break up has begun to waver.

He got dressed and was about to go out, and I called him, "Baron, do you like me?"

He stopped and looked at me with a smile, "What are you thinking? If I don't like you, would I stay with you for more than a year? If I don't like you, would I give you every penny I earn? If I don't like you, would you let me do whatever I want?"

"Then, shall we get married?" I closed my eyes and wiped away the tears.

He then realized that I was in a bad mood, but he didn't leave in a hurry. He sat next to me and asked, "What's wrong?"

I hugged his lower back and drew strength from his warm body.

"Nothing, I just want to start a family." I whispered.

"Okay."

"Also," I said timidly, "Can you keep a little distance from Summer? You hug her and take care of her, which girlfriend can stand it?"

He was stunned for a moment, but he laughed happily, "You never mentioned it, I thought you didn't mind? It turns out you are jealous, little fool, why didn't you say it earlier."

He pinched my nose, looking very doting.

"Do I need to tell you this? Shouldn't you pay attention to it yourself?" I muttered to myself.

He smiled and nodded, "Well said, it's my problem. I will pay attention next time."

"Have you ever liked Summer? She is so beautiful and smart, so many people like her. What about you? Have you ever..."

He was stunned for a moment.

There was no answer for a long time, and I suddenly didn't dare to ask any further questions.

Letting go of my hand, I turned around sullenly, "It's okay, you go to work, I'll take a day off and sleep a little longer."

I admit that I am a bit cowardly.

I'm afraid of losing them both.

Especially after having the dream of having both.

He turned my body around and sighed, "Did you hear something from someone? Are you going to dig up some old stuff and settle it with me?"

I was relieved, at least it wasn't in complete denial.

After he left, I hugged the little bear and said to it, "We can't dwell on the past, right? As long as we can grasp his future, that's enough, right?"

But can I grasp his future?

What exactly is Summer's attitude towards him? Why did she repeatedly forbid me to take him out to dinner, yet send him messages privately?

I didn't want to use my brain and was just immersed in the beautiful dream that he was willing to start a family with me.

He seemed to have the same idea as me.

Summer invited us out several times, and we all tacitly declined.

He enthusiastically took me to see wedding dresses and hotels.

After meeting both sets of parents, the wedding was officially put on the agenda.

Everything seems to be going just as I wanted.

He has always been a man of his words.

But I don’t know why, but I still feel an indescribable anxiety and burning sensation inside.

Like something was going to happen.

The day to register is arranged.

He never came.

I dialed the number.

No one answered the phone for a long time, and finally, there was a notification that the phone was turned off.

Holding the number I had picked, I sat on the bench and waited for him for the whole morning.

Newlyweds with happy faces come and go.

Keep passing by me.

Occasionally, there would be scrutinizing glances.

Until 12:10 noon.

Chapter 4

The Civil Affairs Bureau had all gone off work, and he rushed over panting and sweating profusely.

"I'm sorry, Candy, there was an urgent job at work and I can't leave. I wanted to call you, but my phone ran out of battery and turned off."

"Are you anxious?"

He took me out to eat and kept picking food for me.

He kept talking about how difficult the client he met in the morning was, but he forgot that he was not such a noisy person.

He would only be so revealing when he was guilty of lying.

He just kept apologizing for my futile waiting and for his sudden disconnection.

But he never mentioned getting the certificate.

I should have kept my mouth shut, but I couldn't get rid of the depressed feeling in my chest.

I was frantically trying to confirm an answer, an answer that was already very clear in my mind.

"The Civil Affairs Bureau opens at 1:30 this afternoon. Let's go there after we have lunch." I looked at him and said this.

However, the spoon in his hand slipped unconsciously and made a crisp sound when it rubbed against the wall of the plate.

It was like a slap in the face.

He was a little flustered, not daring to look me in the eye, and explained in a low voice, "I have to rush back to the company soon, today..."

I felt the last string in my heart was broken.

I considerately helped him pick up the spoon and handed it to him.

"It's okay, just focus on your work first."

"Getting the marriage certificate is a big deal, come back when you are ready. Don't worry." I smiled and said, "I saw in the video that they all wore veils, please follow them."

"It just so happens that I didn't prepare any of these this time."

While he breathed a sigh of relief, there was even more shame in his eyes.

He reached out his hand and held mine, saying sincerely, "When I'm done with this busy period, I'll definitely satisfy you. You'll also have the sense of ritual that other girls have."

I resisted the urge to pull my hand away.

Resist the urge to dump the food on his head.

Hold back my anger.

I gently replied to him, "Okay, don't be too tired. I think you are in a bad state today because of the torture of your client."

He looked annoyed and wanted to say something, but held it back.

After he and I finished our meal, I called Summer.

She was wearing a red dress, and when she came out to see me, she had a sarcastic smile on her face, "How come you, such a busy man, finally have time to see me?"

I turned my head and looked at her with a cold gaze, "Summer, are we friends?"

She sneered, "That's a good question! I was just about to ask you. Do you consider me a friend? You've been avoiding me for so many days, and you didn't even talk about something as important as marriage. I'm afraid you're really on guard against me, right?"

I took a breath and said, "Yes, I didn't tell you. But don't you know it too? You are very capable. Not only do you know it, you can also participate in it and even destroy it!"

She seemed to be irritated by my tone and became aggressive, "So what if it was me? I was the one who hung up the phone on him and threatened him not to register with you. Why?"

The corners of her lips curled up into a mocking smile, "You were so defensive against me. If it weren't for me, would you have known him and been with him?"

"If I really want to rob you, do you think you will be able to fight back?"
