Chapter 3
Julian came out from the shower mid-call.
His face immediately fell.
Pulling the phone from my hand, he gnashed his teeth.
"Kevin I'm warning you! Lose your manners again, and we're through!"
Kevin's angry voice came from the phone.
"Julian! She's not worth it! I'll watch my manners with Yvon! I watched the livestream, I saw your boxers!"
Julian frowned and keenly noticed his cell phone next to me.
He took the hint from my expression, took me into his arms and chuckled.
After hanging up the phone, Julian entered the password in front of me.
[1214]
It was our anniversary.
Then he showed me the texts Yvon and he shared.
Guy seemed to have nothing to hide.
There was a lot of white space, with his replies few and far in between.
[Julian, check out this beautiful cloud!]
[Oh my god, our leader is the worst!]
[I'm going live at 8 o'clock tonight, come watch! Or I'll ignore you from now!]
[...]
[You have no idea how embarrassing it was just now! You were fixing the shower at my house and got wet, god knows how your briefs got on the sofa after you changed. My fans all saw it. Ah what am I to do?]
Julian never replied to her.
Seeing my expression loosening, he ruffled my hair in amusement.
"Saw that? Her mom asked me to help fix her shower. I accidentally left it at her house. Don't trust your boyfriend?"
While he was speaking, Yvon sent another message.
[Do you think daily chat is too much?]
Julian looked hesitant, then, in front of me, replied with a few periods.
She was quick to reply.
[Remember what I told you when we first started dating? That if you didn't text me every day, I'd think you didn't like me?]
Julian handed me the phone.
"Wifey, reply to that. Claim your sovereignty!"
I threw the phone onto the bed, not wanting to waste time on such child's play.
Then I headed to the bathroom.
That was when I saw the reflection in the mirror.
Julian hurriedly picked up the phone from the bed to text a reply.
[I'll text you every day then.]
That was close.
I almost believed him.
The next morning, Julian said there was an urgent matter at work so he would not have breakfast with me.
But on Yvon's short video platform, there were photos of her outing with him.
Julian tilted his head slightly towards her, smiling affectionately.
Then I got an unexpected distress call from Kevin.
"Bianca, something bad happened to Julian. I'll send you the address, come over now!"
I stopped packing and hesitated, "I..."
Kevin yelled into the microphone.
"Come quickly, Julian is unconscious and keeps calling for you! He won't get in the ambulance till you come!"
Chapter 4
When I arrived, there was no one around.
The sun was scorching and I was already sweating a little.
"Hahaha! What did I tell you? That the pick me will definitely come! Come on, pay up!"
Not far away, Kevin and the others were standing under the shade of a tree, pointing at me and laughing.
The others were reluctantly taking money out of their trouser pockets.
"You are out of your mind, girl! Didn't Kevin ask you to watch the livestream? And yet here you are. I never met a side chick with thicker skin!"
"God, doesn't this woman have any self-respect?"
I understood what was going on.
I turned around to leave, but was stopped by Kevin.
He pointed in a direction.
Over there, Yvon was stretching out her right hand, her head tilted towards Julian.
"Which one of us has bigger hands do you think?"
Julian raised his eyebrows, then stretched out his hand too.
Just as their hands touched, he grabbed her and pulled her into his arms.
Yvon nestled in his arms shyly.
Julian stared at Yvon's shy face and smiled heartily.
I stood there in a daze for god knew how long.
Afterwards, Yvon walked towards them.
The guys cheerfully made a circle around her.
"How did it go? We were great matchmakers yes? Didn't disturb you guys did we?"
Yvon hit the guy with her fist.
"Well done! Dinner's on me when I get him!"
"Come on, come on, drain your pocket. We're in your livestream every day to give likes. We're doing free hard labor!"
"You are indispensable! Where's Kevin? Why's the big guy not here to greet me?"
Chapter 5
Kevin and I were hiding behind a big tree watching them.
"See? This is the one for Julian. What are you to that?"
"She's a real racer, can you do it?"
I stared at him, then cracked a smile.
"I can."
I had always played dumb to please Julian's friends.
But that was no longer necessary.
I gave everything to this relationship.
So I could leave with no regrets now.
I was sure, I wouldn't be the one with any regrets.
Kevin didn't believe it and dragged me to the racetrack.
He waited in the passenger seat to see me make a fool of myself.
"Pick me girl, you're just trying to be cool, right? Let's see how you'll end up! Need me to teach you how to start?"
I asked him, "You must be very skilled then?"
He was slightly stunned, then couldn't be more pleased with himself.
"Well, do you know Brianna White? She's an F1 racing champion! I almost..."
I was briefly stunned to hear my alias.
"Almost surpassed her?"
He looked at me like I was an imbecile.
"Are you kidding me? Do you know how huge this race is? Seriously, why would Julian be with you? I almost got her autograph!"
I didn't know what to say.
I hadn't raced for two years, so I was a little clumsy at first.
Kevin's words came lazily from the passenger seat.
"Oh, not too bad! You must have learned it especially for Julian."
As I went on, Kevin gradually shut up.
I had been staying away from racing for the past few years.
Because every time I raced, it reminded me of Marvin.
My first love.
The teacher I most respected became a lover, then in the end, an utter stranger.
After getting distracted for a while, I suddenly realized the scenery in front of me was becoming increasingly unfamiliar.
I had taken the wrong road.
Kevin curled his lips, somewhat gloating.
"Tsk, you had your chance, but you made a mistake!"
I gripped the steering wheel.
Seven minutes had passed.
It was probably too late to turn back now.
But if one doesn't turn around when going in the wrong direction, and the more one goes, the more mistakes one makes.
I made a prompt decision and turned around to head back.
Kevin sneered, "Oh, you're trying so hard? Tell you what, you can't possibly make it in time. I'm familiar with this route, and it still takes me 25 minutes!"
"Speak for yourself."
I curled my lips into a cold smile and stepped on the gas.
The car flew like an arrow.
Kevin grabbed the seat belt tightly and suddenly fell silent.
Along the way, long gone memories were wakened.
Over the corner with skillful drifting, the car accelerated.
The blue racing car sped across the field.
The speed was getting faster and faster, as my smile grew bigger and bigger.
Kevin's expression changed from contempt to respect, and even a hint of... worship?
And then it was over.
We arrived at the finish line three minutes and sixteen seconds ahead of schedule.
When I got off the car, every cell in my body was screaming with excitement.
My hands were shaking terribly.
Glancing sideways, I saw Kevin bending over beside a tree emptying his stomach.
I pursed my lips in disgust.
Seeing that I was about to leave, Kevin hurriedly chased after me.
"Wait, Bianca wait! Your skills are great, you must know Brianna White right? Please, help me get her autograph!"
"Brianna White? Maybe you should ask Julian, he knows her well. Oh and, I'm done with Julian, and so too with you guys."
Ignoring his surprise, I turned around and walked back.
Kevin shouted at my back, "When?!"
I waved my hand and replied, "Five minutes from now."
